Lil's Bar & Bistro

It was recommended to us to go and although they cancelled on our original night they certainly looked after us on our return. Was an excellent meal and attentive service would definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone passing through York. They had some issues with the floods but look they are over the worst if it. Go you won’t be disappointed with the food and the wine was reasonably priced. Go for an intimate romantic meal where they will make you feel very welcome.

We visited for York Restaurant Week and were delighted by the choices on offer. We were offered alternatives to elements of dishes we couldn’t eat/didn’t like. These tweaked dishes were just as delicious. Any mistakes (minor) were acknowledged and quickly rectified with great humour and excellent service. Would recommend and will return!

Not a great start to the evening as upon arrival we found that the restaurant was booked out for a 21st birthday party. We actually walked out but then noticed a sign outside stating that there were a few tables upstairs. It would of been nice if we had been made aware of the birthday party when we booked.
Aside from the initial disruption and noise during our meal the food was actaully very good and we were given a discount from our bill without even asking.
I'm sure on a normal evening this would be a lovely restaurant, the food was great, nice wine and attentive service.

Food was ok but the service was very poor. Had to wait three quarters of an hour for food. So did other people. Not enough staff as they were serving outside as well.
This would put us off going again. We had to wait ages to order drinks and food. The waitresses were rushed off their feet. Large group of people upstairs as well.

There was a very noisy group next to us - but they were not outrageous. Food was good and helpings were large

Myself and my boyfriend visited in Saturday 23rd November and we visited on a Whim. We did not regret!

A cosy restaurant, with a good varied menu, the food was delicious

We had a lovely warm welcome and the staff were all lovely throughout our evening. We were looked after really well. Great location with a nice view from our table overlooking the river. Gins and cocktails really good. We only had a main course which was a good size.

We arrived at the bistro and shown to our table, waited a while then were asked if we wanted tap water for the table we said yes half an hour later it arrived! We then ordered drinks and food, starters arrived after about an hour! They looked shocking thrown together when we complained we were told they were busy down stairs, we were the only people eating in the upstairs dining area! We said we were leaving and it was not acceptable we paid for drinks with a “discount” and left never to return. Yes it was race day but staffing is not our problem, very poor would not recommend.

It was a Friday night the location was lovely overlooking the river. We were shown upstairs to a small room and were given a table by the window for 6 of us. The staff were lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was okay but nothing special but the portions were large. Overall a pleasant evening.

Fantastic food, service and staff . Very clean restaurant and toilets. Lovely view of the river, shame the weather wasn’t better to be able eat out on the patio area👍

The only issue was that the steak was medium and I specified rare.

Went last Saturday, it was very quiet, the food was nice, but not much choice.
Last time my friends(8 of us) and I went there was a problem with the bill !! The till didn't take the specials menu, so the tips for the waitress, who was soo lovely, went towards the bill : ( We paid well over what we should have to be honest.

Menu had very few choices compared to the one on the website. Ambience was lacking and food was average. Disappointing.

Nothing much wrong with it, food ok, just not special enough - ok if you’re in York and don’t know where to eat! Sorry, but that’s the best I can do.

Me and my fiancée went here for our valentines meal and it was lovely, the staff was very helpful and couldn’t do enough for us the place is small and comfortable I would highly recommend and would come again.

Booked this for a romantic waterfront meal pre theatre & what a find !!! The staff were most welcoming & attentive .The ambiance was perfect & the food was outstanding cooked to perfection

Booked late for NYE. Was gorgeous food, friendly and great service. Food was amazing and very filling. Great choice of food and drink. Will be visiting again and would highly recommend.

All I would change is the ambience of the room (we sat 1st floor) - quite bright and would be nice if the lights were a bit dimmer not only for the atmosphere but so you could see the views outside better too!
