Very sad to realise the restaurant was now under a different name with a less extensive menu. Renovations had not been finished
Shut !!! Closed down - building site .
The restaurant has closed for good, so there was no food to eat or restaurant to sit in.
It’s closed . Don’t book still taking bookings it’s duscraceful
Arrived to find the restaurant stripped of everything and permanently closed.
Really special birthday treat for my partner.
I have already complained to open table so am really surprised that you want a review
Wish I could review the restaurant but after buying a Groupon voucher and booking my reservation through Open Table I took a friend for lunch to find that the restaurant is in fact under refurbishment! Very embarrassing and had to pay for another lunch in a lovely restaurant just up the road called The Spaghetti Tree which was great!
Groupon now states that my groupon code has been used so need to try and get my money back.
We arrived with a confirmed booking to find the restaurant was completely shut. No info on front door, cleary a refit in progress or it had been sold on. Had to go elsewhere.
Visited Brasserie Vacherin for NYE and it was the worst experience. Our food got mixed up numerous times, the waiters had to be reminded countless times as they forgot our drinks and a very RUDE manager who seemed to argues with customers rather than resolve their issue. An overall poor service from a restaurant that could have been so much better. Won’t be visiting anytime soon nore would I recommend the place.
New years eve theme party...food was excellent waiters in good spirits and music was great...really good evening and met some great people!
Not as good as it used to be.
We generally like dining here but they got 2 things wrong:
- 3 of us had steak and they mixed up our cooking preferences, so we each got the wrong steaks
- The bill twice resembled nothing like what we had, with various extra drinks added. Even after we argued it, they got it wrong. As a result, we left the service charge off the payment.
The annoying thing was that we recommended the couple with us trying Brasserie Vacherin, and they have been left with an unfavourable impression. Suffice to say a planned group booking for over 10 for Sunday roast in January will now be held elsewhere.
The food was decent but the service was slow and confused. We came in for their menu's bragging point, the chateaubriand for two and the waiter didn't understand me. I had to indicate with my hands a steak about a foot long with a special sauce (he wouldn't have known the name). He said, oh that, it's not available on the holiday. Well, thanks for telling me and not taking it off the online menu. There are real French restaurants around I'm sure if you want the real thing.
Nice table in a corner, with lots of Christmas parties at other tables. Service was very slow, but friendly. Food was a long time coming, and over-cooked - eg sea bass very dry. Desserts were not great - eg tough chewy pastry in the apple tart tatin. Probably won’t go back.
Amazing as always!!
Slow, unprofessional service. Food was either over cooked or undercooked. This was once a really good place but now, its terrible. I wont be going back and i recommend you look elsewhere for a meal in this price range.
Food was excellent.
Service was pretty poor, the starters were ok but the mains very average , over all it was an underwhelming experience
Gr8 night. The food was delicious & the cocktails were on point.
Cancelled last minute very disappointing
Only one bowl of veg to accompany multiple mains, should have distributed at least a couple along the table for ease of access to those needing it. Difficult to get attention of staff. Restaurant was busy but I don’t see that as an excuse. Felt like they were disorganised or not trained. Removing plates before everyone in the party were finished eating. Food was ok, not hot but did not raise because felt it would have added further issue. Frustrating as previous experience had been good, although that was some months back.
Our first visit quality food served in a pleasant environment.
Sirloin Steak Rare was excellent and we would recommend the beef short ribs and steamed muscles too.
On the plus, the steak was lovely.
We made a booking, but were told to sit where we like.
The waiter struggled to read the specials menu.
The bread was so crispy it exploded with each bite.
There is a half price steak deal on sunday but - if you pay full price it includes sides. At half price you add sides. £12 plus sides is not half of £16 with sides.
Staff were unhelpful and slightly rude.
Constant shouting about arrival of decorations destroyed any mood.
To add insult to injury service was added to the bill.
I am sure this was just a bad night but the worst thing is the restaurant was closed for a private do last night and we were encouraged to come tonight.
I love coming here. It has a really lovely vibe, the staff are really friendly & happy and the food is delicious!!!
Great to have some good service for a change here - not sure of name but your Italian member of staff is fantastic and much needed as service on last few visits has been lacking.
Sorry to say the service let the place down which I was charged a £10 service charge the problem was first brought out wrong stater then when my main came no vegetables arrived that I had orders this being baby potatoes and broccoli just as I was coming to the end of my main course of a seafood mixed grill then to top all this we ordered coffee cappuccino and both were cold such a shame as the food was of a very good standard but I doubt I will be back or recommend as this was on a quite night would you imagine this would be worse on a busy night
We had the Sunday Feast, a sharing platter of roast meats, £25 for 2. The meats were very good indeed, and generous in quantity. Likewise the sides of cauliflower cheese and braised red cabbage, also the gravy. The roasted veg were a different matter. Al dente is one thing, but you could not even get your teeth into these! The giant Yorkshire pudding looked very appetising, but the reality was different. It obviously had been made at an earlier date and was mostly dried out. Having said that, these criticisms are minor and did not detract too much from our overall enjoyment of the meal. As I said, the meats were superb. Service was attentive. Atmosphere was lacking as there were not many customers.
Service was poor, slow and unfriendly. Although not rude, there were no smiles from the manager/waitress and the food took a long time to arrive. When we asked about the tea/coffee that was meant to arrive with our full english breakfasts (advertised on the menu) we were told we had chosen a different full english breakfast without the drink (not on the menu we were given). Not that we were even given the choice! We were not looked after nor offered drinks beyond the one we were allowed on arrival. As the only table (of 8 people) being served at 9:30am one of the dishes was wrong and this person had to watch the rest of us eat until his finally arrived. Also noticed when a courier arrived to collect cakes he was given a box by this waitress and told he'll have to close it up himself! when he inquired about the balloons to go with the order, she brought them out from the back gave them to him and wondered off. My husband who was watching this got up to help the courier and open the door for him so that the courier could manage the helium balloons and cakes. Generally unimpressed and underwhelmed.
Food very nice. Service attentive and nice. But a little over priced and not really French. Overall nice place to go if you don't have high expectations.
Very good food and service, restaurant was fairly empty, so lacked an atmosphere, but overall very good.
Lovely food, good service & ambiance. On Friday there was a DJ, which on arrival we were a bit concerned would be too loud. However the music level was just right, we loved his style and music choices but we're still able to talk!
Lovely atmosphere we wemt when a Caribbean?? Group were playing, interesting but not overpowering as you eat in the back and drink in the front. The food was lovely, just remember to ask for the set menu if you want it. The waiters were very friendly and gave advice on the specials. The only thing I would say if ypu want speedy service this is definitely not the place to go!!
We often come here, partly because it is just 15 mins on the train from West Croydon (where we live) and partly because we like the reliable tasty dishes which Malcolm John's restaurant serves. He does not change his main menu very often but an overhead board displays what extras he is serving that day. Yesterday I could not face dealing with a whole crab (and instead chose his chicken supreme) but I did go for the bread and butter pudding which was served in soup-style bowl and had plenty of sultanas in it! Service is always cheerful and friendly. We shall be back!
Excellent as usual but strangely quiet for a Saturday evening
Lunch with a friend and needing a good catch-up chat in relaxed surroundings - this met that bill extremely well. All courses were excellent - my fish was notably good. Tap water - no problem.
Food was good without being exceptional, and I think has deteriorated a little since last visit 6 months ago. They're a bit strict about ordering; all of our party were ordering from the A la Carte menu but 1 requested a main course from the Prix Fix, only to be told that they couldn't unless the ordered starter from the PF also. Offering to pay full ALC rates for this main course met with an unwavering response.
Service was very slow with only 1 (pleasant) waitress covering the whole restaurant on a Friday lunchtime.
The overall experience is not the value for money that it used to be. Shame.
The quality of the food was appalling - french onion soup was very sweet and burnt cheese on the top - it resembled gruel !
The chicken ballentine was a chicken breast stuffed with frozen spinach and rolled up - the chicken was a grey colour.
The waitress did not smile once - when I mentioned the soup was not nice she shrugged her shoulders and walked off. She didn't ask what was wrong with the soup.
Staff do not care about what is being served and I strongly recommend that the management look at the quality of food being served. I wonder if management have tasted the food recently
Service very friendly and accommodating although a tad forgetful on not so busy night but I guess this can happen anywhere. Food is very good and they also do special offer deals ( for example every Sunday and Monday they have half price steaks which is amazing). would certainly recommend. nice alternative to dine in Sutton. very special specious restaurant and they also have a garden area. well done .
Started well ... nice wine, good starters but it all went wrong with the main course. 26 quid for a very small, very fatty and not very good steak is taking the mickey. The chips were nice though!
It was a shame because I liked the place up until that arrived ...
Fish was overcooked, muscles added to my plate but not on the menu...im allergic!! No samphire on plate as they had run out, not even offered an alternative. My partner ordered a platter with a steak on it, asked for medium and the one sent was litterally sealed on the outside and cold a raw in the middle. Pointed this out to the waitress who said sorry but didnt even offer to give a replacement. Live DJ playing very loud music..hardly the romantic and enjoyable experience we were hoping for. The couple on the table next to us had a surf and turf, the steak was so tough they couldnt eat it.
Really lovely food. Enjoyed the half price steak offer on a Monday. Thought our waiter was extremely attentive and helpful. It was quite quiet on a Monday. We will be back to try some other dishes!
