Very good small plates at a reasonable price
Consistently good and especially so for families and large groups (6+) - they are very accommodating and have a layout that suits many configurations.
Ac not on soooo hot
Not bad! But not as amazing as the composite Yelp score would suggest. The octopus and calamari dishes are mostly salad, and the same salad that accompanies other dishes. Not much flavor, though the ingredients are fresh and well prepared.
It was great to discover Lokal! We've lived in the neighborhood for 35 years and have wanted a restaurant like this for years. The food was delicious, service attentive without being rushed, and the servings were large. We chose to share several mezze none of which disappointed. The entrees were large and could easily be split by two people (or take home the leftovers). I was delighted with the bottle of temperanillo wine. Lokal is now in our top 10 restaurant list for the UWS.
Love the restaurant and the food. A bit loud!!
This was our 3rd visit and we were disappointed with the food. The sea bass, $34 was ruined by a large portion of soggy salad laying on top of the fish. My crab cake and zucchini pancakes , which were perfect last visit, were over cooked and a bit burnt.
The service is good, but we won’t be returning.
our food was delicious. I was disappointed that you were out of the caviar dip however...
Great food and service every time!
Great food, great service, nice atmosphere.
I try to go every time I go to NYC.
The restaurant itself is very pretty. Nice wood, spacious tables, comfortable seats. The food is pretty good - shepherd salad is yummy but 2.50 extra for shredded feta cheese on top is completely ridiculous. The shishkebab is very good, as are the spicey vegetables. The bread is amazing! The wait staff is extremely friendly and the prices are reasonable. All in all, you won't be disappointed (just don't order feta with the shepherd salad!).
Excellent service, great dips and wine, Greek salad was just ok, didn’t care for grape leaves as they didn’t have a fresh, lemony, herb taste that I love. More of a sweet flavor.
It is a nice space and the food was good. Not exceptional, but nothing wrong either. However, our service was outstanding. Especially considering how mediocre service has become these days even in more expensive, fancier restaurants. Unfortunately I do not know the servers name, but the entire crew that helped with our table was great. In the end, great service makes for a great meal, even if the food is not spectacular, but perfectly fine.
Love Lokal. Food is delicious, love that you can do the mezze (small plates). Service is always good, attentive, friendly even when they are busy. Nice ambience, Good wine and drink list. It can be a little expensive, but its worth the money. Hard to say what my favorite dish is, i have not had anything i didn't enjoy!
This was my second time dining at this restaurant, and it was definitely just as good as the first! I was in NYC with a friend for museum touring and suggested we dine at Lokal Mediterranean Kitchen. It was only a couple blocks from our hotel, so the location was very convenient. We both ordered the marinated baby lamb chops, and they were positively delicious...tender, juicy and flavorful. They were accompanied with lovely vegetables--done to perfection--and we also were served a warm, round loaf of delightfully seasoned bread. We shared a bottle of tempranillo and had the flan for dessert. My friend loved the whole experience, and I know I'll be dining there again in the future. I highly recommend this restaurant as one of only a few truly exceptional ones near the American Museum of Natural History.
This was my second time dinning at Lokal. Both experiences were very satisfying. Food, ambiance, service all very good.
super fresh - nice presentation.
babaganoush is a little too creamy
the inside of the restaurant was too hot and stuffy. no air circulation.
Loved the food here. Hummus and octopus were both phenomenal
The service was excellent and the food delicious. The only reason I left off a star was for the worst margarita ever. Perhaps my own fault - don’t order a drink like that at a Mediterranean place!
Pretty place. Not as loud as some places, but not a full house. Expect that when fully booked noise would increase.
Menu is great and it was difficult to choose. We shared excellent crab cakes as a starter. Sauce had just enough kick.
I selected grilled shrimp which were a bit over cooked for me. The grilled shishkabob veggies were okay. Salad on the plate okay.
My dining partner selected the lamb dish. She said the lamb was a bit tough but the dish flavorful.
We skipped desert.
I went with my husband right before the rush of dinner time. It was quiet and comfortable when we got there but by the time we left, we couldn't hear each other because of the noise level. Otherwise food was delicious and service was great! We'd come back!
The waiter was really nice and explained what I can have as a vegan.
Lots of tasty options for individuals and to share. Restaurant is a bit noisy, and attracts all types of diners- families, young and old.
Great restaurant, excellent food and great service!
The food was tasty and the service very attentive and courteous. The noise level was good for conversation and the tables not crowded together. A very pleasant experience altogether.
Restaurant was fine. Not as good as the pictures, but fine.
I like the food, ambience and wine list. Service needs to be more professional and friendlier.
Strange that menu says 3/$22 but the bill charged each individually. Until we said something about the bill.
Way too loud, even with restaurant half empty. I won’t return.
Unimpressive food that looks much better than it tastes. The eggplant spread is spicy, as our server warned, but the problem was not that: it was just boring. Same with red-pepper spread. The Greek salad consisted of tired greens and a very small piece of tasteless feta. Even more disappointing was the shrimp al ajillo, over cooked and just oily. Only the bread failed to disappoint. It’s delicious, and we wished the spreads, small plates, and main dishes were as good as the bread. Service is very good, and the restaurant is a nice place to dine on a hot summer night, but something is wrong in the kitchen.
Nice surprise on the UWS! Food fresh and well prepared. Service attentive and fun. We’ll be back.
I had the chicken shish and my husband had calamari and a side of asparagus. It was delicious! We enjoyed the quiet ambiance and our server was polite and prompt.
WOnderful food drink and service. Highly recommended.
Really nice place- ambiance and food. We both had the choose 3 sides (hummus, falafel, tabouleh, baba ghanoush, cheese pastries). All were good. Service was pretty quick and everyone quite nice. Love this place!
Great food. There breads and dips are particularly amazing. The lamb chops I had were very good too. Overall, great food and superb service.
Great place. Excellent service, nice room, very tasty food. Great selection on the menu-the appetizers are very tasty--calamari, octopus, zucchini pancakes--everything was great. Been here several times--will keep coming back...
Great experience, lots of appetizers
I would have loved to give this place 5 stars, but the music was too loud and I could barely hear my lunch partner. The food and the service were very good. I’d go back, but they gotta turn down the volume!
The food was amazing. The service was excellent. I asked for a quiet table and I even requested that the music be turned down a little and they happily accommodated me. I was with friends and we wanted to talk. We need more restaurants I like this one that are happy to provide a place to talk and eat!
