Welcome was very warm and service level high. Food was spectacularly good and so was the wine and beverages to accompany the meal.

Improvement an overview in writing what the different dishes are, as the waiters evel English made it difficult to understand at times.

A place that can only be recommended for the food and wine experience.

Absolutely fabulous, from the best Cosmo I've tasted (and I'm fussy about them!), the stunning canapes, the service and of course the 7 courses... It's pricey but well worth it for a special occasion or to treat yourself!

Have eaten at L’Ortolan several times. Think the portions are bit small. My goose liver was one small mouthful plus decoration. Butter was almost meted. Being picky, but at thislevel and price...........

Excellent food. The 6 course menu was great which was advertised on the website - definitely worth asking about this when you visit as it’s not always promoted at the restaurant itself.

Excellent food and a wonderful wine selection (that is worth a visit for that alone). Service is friendly and knowledgeable (wine suggestions always are unique and different - after this visit I have five to try and source)

Will be back. My only complaint is that the decor needs updating. The bar is lovely but the main room and conservatories need refreshing for such a wonderful restaurant.

Lovely staff and service was excellent from start to finish.

We started in the bar and had a couple of cocktails before we went to the restaurant for dinner. We went with the gourmand tasting menu and my wife took the sommeliers recommendation on an excellent orange wine to accompany the appetisers.

Each course was delicately and precisely balanced in flavours and plating.

The halibut dish was the stand out of the 7.

Would visit again.

This is our 4th visit and it was even better than we remembered. We were having dinner with friends who were very impressed with the quality of food which was delicious and the ambience felt like we were in our own dining room. The service is first class and the team could not be more attentive but in a very unobtrusive way. Worth every penny and can't wait for our next visit.

We have always wanted to try this place as it is close to my work. We arrived on time but it took a good 15-20 minutes before we have been offered to look at the menu. Then we were told we cannot have the discovery menu.

This is our first visit and perhaps the waiters should inform the customers that to avoid disappointment, they might have to order any meals which was about to stop being served.

So that wasn’t a good start. Then we decided to go for a 7 course tasting menu.

The sundried tomato bread was baked to perfection. The canapé and pre appetizer started off brilliantly. The breads were fantastic. Clever use of ingredients like yuzu and muli. The dish was colour full with an eclectic mix of flavors singing through the taste buds. However, once you see the same ingredients become the contacting theme between the dishes. Unfortunately the excitement turned into a dull experience.
The fish was also slightly over cooked.

The desert rescued the day. It managed to pull off the same excitement at the start of the meal.

Overall, it was average. There has to be a lot of factors for a restaurant to be Michelin 1 star but the experience did not measure up to the expectation.

We hope the restaurant will consider the comment seriously for their own benefit.

Much better than our last visit.
Lunch “Flavours of Spring” menu, only oddity was the bee pollen in the pre-dessert which was bitter and out of place.
Overall flavours, presentation and combinations excellent.
Service less stuffy than previous visits and waiting time between courses not too long.

I have not been to L’Ortolan for a good few years but thought it worth a revisit for a birthday celebration.

I was surprised to see that not too much had changed over the years; the food was as good as I had hoped, and I guess that is what it is all about.

But……..in other areas much has gone backwards. I recall that the lighting and décor was that left by John Burton Race years ago.

There was little warmth in welcome or service. This may be due to a large private function, the room and bar looked tired and in need of some considerable decoration, the windows and as a side issue, mirrors were smeared and not clean which did not look good in sunlight.

Our meal for 3, 2 tasting menus with wine paring and one without, a non-drinker, was really good, some interesting wines, possibly a bit too much fish focus. The cost with service was some £442.

In my view this seemed about fair.

The staff all seemed to look tired, the uniforms needed an update or a clean and press. Although I may be from a different age, I am not sure that a waiter with poor English language skills and two black rings with holes in the earlobes sets the right note for a Michelin starred restaurant. In fact, if I had seen this at the entrance the look was more of a security person deciding who should enter or not.

The birthday was dealt with by way of a strange piece of black slate with a birthday message being plonked in front of me after a staff member came to the table with it asking ‘whose birthday is it’? It was something that looked like it went from table to table where appropriate as the message, in icing, was starting to break up.

My recent Michelin experience was of Galvin’s Pompadour in Edinburgh, very similar pricings but very different in overall service and ambience.

Finally, why do people in restaurants have to use phones? The impact of those on adjoining tables being engaged on a constant text, ding, text, is annoying at best, 2 of them on the same table on separate phones even

Have been coming here for 40 years!! It was the Milton Sandford back then, but always exceptionally good food, and this was as always, a truly scrumptious feast.
The only criticism is the conservatory where we have a pre-dinner drink needs some attention to the decor, the ceiling blinds looked scruffy and were broken in places, but the service and lovely staff made us soon not notice.
We will be back of course!

Exceptional dining experience. Food, service and location couldn’t be faulted.
It is an expensive meal out but definitely worth it - just not something I could afford to do every week!
But that’s my problem not theirs.
Dealing with special dietary requirements was not an issue for them and they made changes to the menu to accommodate our needs.
Probably the best meal out ever.

We have visited lortolan many times and always have had a good experience. However on this occasion we were disappointed having booked a table for four,we were seated on a table that probably seated 6/8 making conversations difficult also the table was situated where the waiters gathered making it very difficult to hold a conversation and it was a noisy corner. The food was reasonable a few dishes were not up to the usual standard I can appreciate it was a busy Saturday night but we were slightly disappointed. The service was also not up to its usual high standard.
