In 1835, the Bofarull family founded one of the most charismatic restaurants in the city, Can Bofarull, in the most emblematic part of the Gothic District, near Las Ramblas in Barcelona. Over time, the restaurant was renamed in honour of one of its most famous dishes, Los Caracoles (Snails). Since then, four more generations of the Bofarull family have managed to maintain the excellent standard of it's high quality traditional cooking. The restaurant's well-earned fame has spread all over the world and is now an absolute must for all those visiting our city. It stands out for always having been a place frequented by famous personalities from the world of art, show business, politics and finance, attracted not only by the choice of culinary pleasures served there but also the charm of its numerous little corners so full of history.
Wonderful spot for a quiet meal in an atmospheric setting.
Very much a tourist destination thanks to the guide books. Photos of celebrities who dined there throughout. Portions are plentiful. Service is friendly but not terribly helpful. Location is excellent and easy to find.
Wonderful atmosphere! Lots of cozy spaces - feels very Old world , very Barcelona
We ate here while visiting from Los Angeles and were so pleasantly surprised by how wonderful the food, service and overall experience we had. The house paella is a must and of course, all the tapas were amazing. Don’t forget to try their chicken which they have cooking at the front of the restaurant!
Returned after 42 year absence with friends- such a favorite of ours back then and we were not disappointed. Excellent roast chicken and snails, good Sangria and wine but what we came for was the Paella. Interestingly all 4 of us remembered it differently- more of a yellow color and saffron taste. Now it is a darker color without the saffron color/ taste but still delicious. Loaded with seafood and meat- overall really really good and service , just like we remembered was excellent. Hope it doesn’t take us another 42 years to go back.
I had been there years earlier when I was in Barcelona, and it was just as great as I remembered!
We were looking so forward to dining there I had been there for dinner 9 years Ago it was fantastic then .
We went the other night for an early reservation and were so disappointed with were they sat us it was awful . Super depressing for our anniversary dinner. We moved to another table. Restaurant was empty. Still awful. So we deceived to leave. Sorry 😐
Amazing experience! Highly recommended!
We were a party of six, every single one of us enjoyed the evening tremendously. Food and wine were good as always and we were very lucky to be waited on by a professional yet funny and jolly waiter. We will keep going back.
Amazing food and service, you must have the chicken they cook outside rotisserie style and the Black rice
After seeing good reviews we were excited to go, but a bit wary when we first arrived as service at reception and by the guy that showed us to our table (who didn't even talk to us!) was pretty standoffish and poor. We were then sat down very close to another couple (it was obviously a table for four that had been split apart a bit) in a very quiet part of the restaurant and I started to think we'd come to the wrong place and was apologising to my spouse as it wasn't looking good.
However, our waiter was brilliant, very friendly and good service and the food was delicious! As we sat there longer it filled up and a band came in and brought things to life a bit. Very tasty wine, good food and eventually good service after the initial people.
During our week in Barcelona we needed a change from the tapas and fish, so we reserved a spot at Los Caracoles. The signature snails were excellent, and the waiter assured us that there would be plenty to share. On the way in we walked through the kitchen, and we noticed the fine cuts of meat on the grill. The T Bone was prepared perfectly, more than enough for two people along with a side of assorted vegetables.
This restaurant surpassed my expectations. The food is a 10 out of 5!
good food very nice environment. very ideal for group gathering and dinner
Disappointing, order a piece of fish...and that’s what you get... nothing else, no potato, no vegetable, no nothing! In fairness, it was tasty, but that’s all folks....
Very disappointed. The food was heavy and greasy. The ambiance was cramped. Service perfunctory.
Bad food. Horrible accommodations and you walk through the dirty kitchen with slippery floors. Save your appetite for a better restaurant
Been coming to this restaurant on and off since 1976 and it has not changed at all ( which is great). It’s got an awesome atmosphere and ambiance and their signature dish, the “Caracoles” ( garden snails) is incredible and another one of my many favorites, the House Special Paella, is wonderful too.
And there is something special about having to go thru the kitchen in order to go into the restaurant. Love this restaurant.
Definitely recommend this spot to anyone traveling and visiting Barcelona.
Su pollo asado en la brasa es el mejor de todo Barcelona! El trato exquisito! Ve a disfrutar!!!
I was at los caracoles with my father 30 years ago and wanted my family to give this experience.
This restaurant never seizes to amaze me. So consistent and delicious. Very authentic and accommodating. The service is the best I’ve experienced in Barcelona. Yum!!
Fun restaurant that I first went to more than 25 years ago. I remembered the food being better but maybe that is because I was in college the last time.
Todo maravilloso, el servicio y recomendaciones de Joaquin perfectas
This place was exceptional. The food was extremely authentic and very characteristic of this region. I highly recommend this restaurant as a must for a Barcelona experience.
Random , but lucky, selection for us. First night in Barcelona could not have been much better. The rabbit and snails combo was excellent, and the hake was quite good as well.
Foods were delicious. Ambiance ok.
I booked Los Caracoles with Opentable 2 months ago, l had eaten here 16 years ago and loved everything about it we had such fun and delicious food. On arrival we were brought to our table... then hastily moved to the lower back room??? The air con was set to freezing, service was slow we received drinks after half hour and an hour after arrival we were served dinner. The roterissie chicken l remembered so fondly was abysmally dry...paella was just ok but in fairness the steak was delicious. Just before dinner a basket of bread rolls were thrown on our table (far to late to nibble but quite expensive seeing as we hadnt ordered them). I will not be back to Los Caracoles and l feel they could not care less.
The little pork was fantastic
We strongly recommend
Fabulous! It had been 25 years since my last meal at this restaurant and it is just as good.
Certainly one of the oldest restaurants in Barcelona. Wonderful service, excellent food and very good value. HIGHLY RECOMMEND !
Very good quality food - had fillet steaks. Good service. Very friendly Barman who made us a fab Cava Sangria!
Muy bien todo, un punto en contra , no avisaron a open table de mi presencia y he recibido un email preguntando por mi ausencia, please , indiquen que concurri al lugar.

Lively historic restaurant with very good typical cuisine. The musicians were entertaining, too.
Definitely a must when in Barcelona, fabulous Spanish cuisine, great ambiance, nice friendly waiters.
The only hiccup was that we booked through 'Open table' and the gentleman who greeted us when we went to book in could not see our reservation and almost doubted us, until he turned over his booking page and saw our name on the blank side.
Service was quick, the live traditional Spanish music was enjoyed by everyone.
We sat upstairs, so hurry up and go, I believe lunch is also a great experience.
Great food...only this is I recommend that you ask to sit upstairs rather than in the basement room.
Lovely and authentic restaurant with good service.
Das Essen war nur zum Teil gut. Die calamari waren lecker dafür die Fischsuppe und die Muscheln nicht.
My son and I were celebrating our first evening ever in Barcelona. The restaurant came recommended by a fellow American. Overall, it was a welcoming place, but the food was very disappointing. Everything was overcooked and virtually the same color of brown. The sangria was overly sweet and virtually flavorless. For their reputation — and the price!!! — they should have done a better job. :-(
Returning here after many years. It was as remembered! Fun, good food, service very good. The only disappointment was that the Creme Catalan was cold. The sugared topping should be fired right before serving to be caramalized so you have the warm top and cool creme underneath. We came specifically for that . Otherwise, it was a great night. Family gathering.
