Pros: waitress was friendly, food was tasty albeit overcooked (medium rare stake was served medium well). Happy ambience. Pleasant night temperature.
Cons: wine list was a choice of 3 reds, all described by the grape alone. Main course came out 10 mins after starters. A full tray of drinks was shattered on the sidewalk (accidents happen) but it took them 15 minutes to clear the glass. Pedestrians were walking through broken glass. Excuse? They said they were busy. The waitress who spilt the drinks just kept serving more drinks, ignoring the situation.
Perfect Bistro outdoor dining! We had a wonderful evening.
Great restaurant, great service, food and staff. Will be back!
Excellent bloody Mary. Rather limited brunch choices. Several items featured on menu posted on Open Table were absent—pea soup, turkey sandwich. Chicken tenders good, fries outstanding.
i love lou birds so much - food is good, ambiance is good
Brought my in-laws here while they were visiting Philadelphia. They arrived early and the servers seated them so they did not have to wait out in the rain. Service was attentive throughout our meal. The food, however, was very meh. I ordered the Chilaquiles and it was so bland, basically some flavorless tortilla chips with an under cooked egg on top. My partner got the chicken and waffles and said it was "fine." I did like my latte though? But overall I was disappointed and hoping for more when bringing out of towners to a such a food rich city!
Love the 'hole in the wall' feel! The food is really good.
We went to Lou Birds for an early Sunday dinner and had a couple more f great cocktails to start and the fried Brussel sprouts, so good. I ordered the burger and wife had the pot pie which we both enjoyed. Waitress was attentive and spoke with the owner he was a nice guy. Will return for another meal soon.
Breakfast was very good. Eggs cooked perfectly and sausage moist with hint of maple. Pancakes perfect!
A solid option for a night out with friends! Good bar/pub food and decent cocktails.
The best dinner spot! Great food, drinks, and feel.
Just a wonderful and thoughtful staff!
Great food and the best Valentine's atmosphere.
Nest time I'm in Philly I will defiantly book another table!

Went there on Valentine’s Day and sat outside. The heating was nice, the wait staff was incredibly kind and the food was great
It was a real bummer.
We had specifically made a reservation here because they offered indoor seating. I was on the phone with my partner and we had reservations elsewhere, but chose here because I had had a good experience in the past and the aforementioned reason.
When we arrived the hostess ushered us to an outside table and set us down. While there were other seats near heaters she sat us at a table near heater, that was pointed directly away from us. Maybe they had larger parties coming in and they were holding them? Fine. She was trying to balance server sections? Fine.
I went back in and told her I had recalled our reservation for being inside, she told me I was incorrect. Fair enough. User error.
What was really disappointing was about 4-5 minutes later she brought another couple outside to a table closer to heater, they weren't pleased either. They came back inside and asked if they could sit inside and she promptly brought them inside.
Maybe something changed in that 4-5 minutes, but we should have been offered to move inside, as we had indicated we thought we understood our reservation as being for indoors. Had we placed an order or been seated for 15 minutes, I could understand leaving us where we were, but this we MINUTES after I spoke with her (in fact, 4-5 may be generous). We had barely received a single coffee, let alone placed our order.
This was supposed to be a Valentine's Day meal and it was a big disappointment.
Thankfully, we promptly left and ended up at Bridget Foy's on South Street, where we had an infinitely better experience.
What was really egregious to me, was
It was a valentine day brunch… They clearly were not prepared… It was as if they try to squeeze in a brunch… It may be very good for dinner but it was a bad experience…
I have dined at Lou Bird’s pre-COVID and had a pleasant experience. However, my recent experience was disappointing. My party and I were the first to arrive for outdoor dining when the restaurant opened for brunch. We were given water by our server immediately and she asked us if we knew what we wanted to drink. We replied that we’d need just another minute. She did not check on us for 30 minutes, no exaggeration. Next, our heater stopped working and I had to go inside the restaurant to find someone to help us. They came out, briefly tried to fix it, then told us it must be broken and they didn’t have any more heaters available. Meanwhile, the party next to us had TWO! We finally got to order our drinks and food. Another 30 minutes went by without anyone checking on us. We ran out of water. They provided us our drinks and food at the same time. Reminder that we were the first ones there but other patrons had their drinks and food way before us. Overall, very upsetting experience.
Felt welcome from the moment we walked in. Friendly and efficient service; varied menu and food was prepared with pride. Great place to have a good meal and enjoy friends & family. Will be back again.
Terrible! We had a reservation but were told the people at our table had been there for 5 hours and didn’t want to leave so we weren’t able to sit down. After a while they found a free table for us, then it took about 45 minutes to an hour to get anyone to take our order once we sat down. Inside was 100% capacity, several workers not wearing masks.
Great food, excellent service. Staff was very accommodating, went above and beyond. Cocktails were delicious and well made.
Always good! Delicious food and great service. Even outside
Service: After checking in, we were about to be seated outside where there was no heater around the table. Upon looking around, there were at least five empty tables with dedicated space heaters. We asked to be seated at a table with a space heater. A couple that checked in after us got seated right away at a table with a dedicated space heater. This table had water and utensils brought to them quickly while we waited over five minutes for the same service.
Food: Husband ordered breakfast sandwich; scrambled eggs were overcooked. I ordered the chilaquiles; eggs were supposed to be over easy but got them sunny side up. Plus, the tortillas chips covered in chili sauce were a bit on the cold side.
Overall experience, not that great.
The food was amazing! Fresh ingredients, well made, delicious.
I’ve been here before and the food was great. Food was kind of cold and mushy this time, which was surprising.
on the weekends the brunch menu is pretty limited and they serve brunch until 3 although the menu said only until 12. Dinner menu doesn't begin until 4PM. We sat down at 2:30 expecting to be able to order the non-brunch menu, but were told we couldnt until 3 so we ordered some drinks and put in our order to be placed in at 3 only to then be told that the kitchen was closing until 4. So we left with just having drinks. Overall strange.
Great brunch!
This place is fantastic! Family owned and operated. Just took our son there who moved to the neighborhood this week. They couldn’t have been nicer and more welcoming! Pot pies were so so delicious and filling! The chicken Milanese was one of the best ever! Such a great spot with outdoor dining and heaters for those chilly nights. Can’t wait to come back.
They have set up nice outdoor dining with heaters. The chicken taco appetizer was very good. Great homemade guacamole as well.
I would not recommend the tomato soup and grilled cheese. The soup was not well flavored and the grilled cheese was very dry and didn't have enough cheese.
My husband liked the white bean chili and chips and my nephew liked the crab cake sandwich special.
Our server was extremely attentive!
We had to wait for a table to open up so we were not sight right at the time of our reservation, but the manager was very apologetic and offered us a drink from the bar while we waited. However, once we were sat our waiter did not come back for almost 30 minutes to take our order and we had to flag him down to get his attention at all. Our appetizer came out with our entrees which was annoying but the food itself was very good. Then at the end of our dinner the waiter gave us the wrong check. Normally these little things wouldn’t bother me too much but the combination of everything didn’t make for the most pleasant experience. I will say the outdoor setup was very nice and we were able to stay warm the entire time with the heat lamps and space heaters.
Great food, friendly service. Can't wait to go again. Try the chicken pot pie!
Wonderful experience! Was given a blanket and had heaters on either side of me! The staff was so wonderful and really catered to us!
They’re doing everything they can to stay alive and serve the community. Good luck to all of you.
We had a pleasant brunch. The breakfast sandwich was surprisingly good and my husband enjoyed his pancakes. Our waitress was as sweet as could be and service was attentive and fast.
Nice outdoor setup. Very kind waitress and management. They treated me and my family, including one very picky eater, very well.
We had a party of six for my daughters birthday and everything was wonderful! They cleaned the table before we sat down and all employees wore masks. I felt very safe and the outside seating was great. We had several apps and the the chicken potpie was out of this world!! My daughter was lucky enough to move down the street a week ago and I am sure we will be back!
Chicken and waffles were delicious! But too many other vegetables mixed in with the breakfast potatoes.
Seated in street and very close to cars. Was a bit unnerving...but I get that they needed to utilize the space. Ordered fried chicken...my first order was this tiny piece and was cold. I didn’t want to bother the Server but then I looked around to others eating same dish and had it returned. The Server didn’t even acknowledge or apologize... and did seem bothered!
Second was hot but was dry and not flavorful.
Wont go back.
Great service and food was delicious. Cocktails were also very good and the out door set up is well done.
We went for the Oktoberfest dinner. The waitress was nice but didn’t know much about the beers or the menu. Not sure it was actually German food, probably should’ve known better. Recommend sticking with Brauhaus Schmitz for a true Oktoberfest experience.
Cozy atmosphere. Attentive staff. Good cocktails. Great place!!
Excellent service and attentive staff! They were very busy but I never felt rushed - very relaxing meal!
