Louie Louie Bistro Bar
Great restaurant with an appealing ambiance and great food on Penn’s campus.
Everything we ordered was delicious! The mushroom salad was great. Next time in Philadelphia we will definitely go.
Great location and excellent service.
Great service and gorgeous atmosphere
Food was so delicious but even more importantly, service was impeccable. Our waiter Chris was gracious, funny, and unobtrusive all at the same time. Wonderful meal in a beautiful restaurant. Would highly recommend!
Our waitress, Tylisa (spelling?) was wonderful and the rest of the staff was very nice. The food was fresh and beautifully prepared. Good wine selection.
Louie Louie is always a reliable place. It can be a bit noisy, but I’ve always enjoyed the food and service I’ve received there. I had the tuna niçoise and my friend had the croque madame. Both dishes were great, and our server was excellent. She even offered me a free scoop of ice cream for my birthday.
SO BEAUTIFUL. Great food. Kinda service. Will definitely be back!
Our waiter Chris (C4) was amazing. The food was fresh and delicious. This an ideal brunch location. My wife and I enjoyed the ambiance. Ask for Chris (C4). You will not be disappointed.
This is definitely a better environment than before. People are more attentive and quieter so we could hear without shouting across the tables. The staff should know what not available on the menu before having the quests order and then checking with the kitchen or it gets embarrassing a little.
We had a really nice time at dinner. Food was good, service good, drinks good. We will definitely be back
Friendly staff, beautiful atmosphere, delicious food!
A very nice, neighborhood Bistro Bar. Food was very good; service was excellent.
Fun spot!!! Would like to go back for dinner. Dessert and Prosecco were delicious!!
We had a lovely night out at Louie Louie. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was excellent. Had really tasty cocktails prior to our wine. The food was very good, more on the traditional side, sometimes, I like a little more modern, but tasty. Overall, a great experience, would go back.
My husband and I went to Louie Louie for a romantic night away from our kids. It was beautiful, comfortable, and the food was delicious! The staff were on it they never left us alone to long without refilling our waters! I highly recommend Louie Louie!
Excellent food and services. But way too noisy. But globally good restaurant
I was more excited to go here to see the decor than for the food, actually, b/c it looked amazing in photos. It was a very pretty place. Everyone who worked there was extremely friendly, attentive and accommodating. The restaurant is extremely loud- felt like my friend and I were shouting just to hear each other. The food was, overall, not great. I found the offerings to be kind of generic- very much in line with dishes and ingredients trending at other upscale Philly restaurants- nothing very inventive, and nothing done in a particularly stand-out fashion. The Kennett Mushroom Salad was my favorite thing that we ordered. It was actually very good and the dressing was delish. I didn’t see where it really went with the field greens- i’d have preferred just the mushrooms (or maybe some spinach or arugala). The squash ravioli was fine. We sent back the eggplant gratin because it wasn’t hot. When it came back out, it was kind of dried out and there way grease floating on the plate. For the trouble, we were comped with the goat cheese arancini (fried rice balls), whoch was very nice of them to do. The strawberry rhubarb pie for desert wasn’t bad- but not really next level. Considering the prices, I say “Meh”.
Overall food was good, service was not. We had the onion and bacon flatbread which came out quickly amd was good. My onion soup had a great melted cheese top and rich stock. I had the steak frites which was great, but the problem was it took forever to get our entrees served. Our server never seemed to be around when we needed her probably because she knew we were going to ask where our food was. We ordered one dessert, an ice cream sundae which took 20 minutes to get. The service, or lack thereof took away from the otherwise good food.
This place is cute, but that’s pretty much it. We went for brunch and it was definitely overpriced. My friend got a yogurt parfait that was inedible — liquidy like soup. I was disappointed because the place is so cute! But the food is NOT worth the trip or the money.
First time there got me q great impression. Great service , food and environment! I will like to go again !
Lovely surroundings, menu was very nice, service was great. Food........good, very good depending on choice, needed more menu choices. My appetizer was great, tuna tartare, my cousin had the duck and lobster bisque, which was great. My entree, papadle, was sub par. Do they produce a U100 shrimp? That’s what was in my dinner, it had beef undertones. Two people in the party had this dish, we both agreed on our opinion. All 3 of our cappuccino’s were barely warm when served to us. So in conclusion, lovely atmosphere, so-so food.
First time at Louie Louie, they did a very nice job in renovating this space from the former restaurant located there. The staff were friendly, excellent service and very nice menu selection and reasonably priced wine list. A bit noisy so not a good place if you want a quiet place (they could do more to dampen the sound), but they do have outside seating that is quieter. Overall, I liked Louie Louie and will be back.
Very nice French bistro atmosphere. Good food and the pricing was moderate
First time for dinner. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Waitress was very friendly. Very beautiful place and comfortable booth for 4. Can recommend the trout and the oysters especially. The outdoor patio looks inviting and not in the middle of the sidewalk . Will be back!
We went here for UCity Dining days. The food was delicious and the service was exquisite. Our only gripe was the dessert selection. They did not list on the menu exactly what the dessert would be, just that it would be a trio.
We had gone to White Dog Cafe the night before for UCity Dining Days. To our surprise, Louie Louie served us the exact same chocolate cake and blondie we had the night before at White Dog. It turns out both restaurants are owned by the same company, and they source the same desserts from a third party. I would've appreciated some variety, or some heads up as to the dessert selection. We likely would have chosen a different restaurant, since eating a the same, very rich chocolate cake and very sweet blondie two nights in a row is not that enjoyable. Or knowing there is a UCity dining days special, and knowing Louie Louie and White Dog are some of the best restaurants in UCity, they could've ensured there was less overlap between menus for patrons who went to both.
Overall, a great experience though!
Both service and food was exceptional. This is definitely something I would treat myself to again. It's also a great place to take a date or just to have a nice time with friends.
I would recommend, mostly because of the outstanding service. The menu items are expensive and we were not impressed with the limited amount of food for the cost, especially with the cheese tray.
Great food and service. I had the Croque Madame...delicious!
Love the atmosphere, and the food is delicious! One of the few restaurants in the University City area with elegant ambiance.
went for uc dining days but ended up ordering off of the regular menu. it was a great time to catch up with an old friend with some great food, wine and service!
Lovely location for a Sunday brunch with fun drinks and hearty items. Service was discreet but attentive
I had read positive reviews for this restaurant so we decided to take our 91-year-old aunt there for dinner.
She loves going to try new restaurants and is especially fond of having a cocktail before her meal. When we sat down she order a regular margarita, not the spicy margarita, listed with the special drinks. The margarita took twenty minutes to arrive and was served in a port glass. The salads were good but my husbands vegetable curry dish was primarily potatoes and the eggplant in my eggplant Gratin was very tough like shoe leather. The bouillabaisse recommended to my aunt by the waitress was too spicy for her to eat so they took the charge off the bill. The ambiance was very pleasant for a Friday evening but the food and the pace of the service were extremely disappointing. It was certainly my aunt's last supper at Louie Louie Bistro Bar.
Would prefer to not feel like I’m seated so close to other tables and I was not a fan of the grain that was served with my salmon, however I was really impressed with the atmosphere and we also had excellent service.
We tried out the new(er?) university city restaurant for dining days. Menu looked great. Ambiance is great when you walk in and throughout the meal, but the service was all over the place; I think we needed to go find someone to transition us through every part of the meal (drinks, meal, dessert, getting our check, paying the bill) - everyone was very polite, just disorganized. My friend ordered a salad that never came. The drinks were mediocre at best and we were really excited about them from their descriptions (they tasted watered down and odd, couldn’t put our finger on it). Dining days is usually where we try places on the cheap(er) and we walked out of there spending way too much for ‘meh’ food and drink. Maybe they need a little more time to settle in, I think it has potential - just disappointing.
One of the best places in the university city area. Food and service was very good.
Louie Louie is the requested spot for lunch by my son when we are in town. He loves the oysters and tar tar. It's a great place for a brunch or late lunch with all the classic bistro fare. Service is attentive and professional.
I liked the place a lot. The food was ok. I had a reservation for 4 during lunch time. In addition to our server, the manager kept coming to our table to randomly pick things up. We didn’t like that at all.
This place is really tasteful, with beautiful decor, very Instagramable. The outdoor seating on the sidewalk is also great. The apps we tried during happy hour were very good and the drinks were also good for the happy hour price of 5 bucks. I docked service a few stars because the time between check ins was very long at times. Extra points bc the hostess let me charge my phone at their stand with no attitude whatsoever.
The food was just ok.
