It is a shame that the waiting staff couldn't be bothered to serve us. Eye rolls from our waiter and then plates being thrown down and dishes explained under the breath. The fact that all six of us picked up on the vibe wasn't great. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant which is a shame as the food was good but great service is really important and we certainly didn't get that at the Loyal Tavern.
Great brunch - would recommend
Good atmosphere, wide range of choices, friendly efficient service, food tasted great, good on price. Have been to Loyal Tavern before and will be back again.
Much quieter than its predecessor. More of a rustic pub vibe. Food is nice but some of the dishes were bland.
I tried the quinoa plate with avocado and instead of eggs some kale and it was so very tasteful!
Very good food. Good portion sizes.
The restaurant is nicely decorated and it’s really interesting to be able to see the kitchen at work.
On the loud side and when you sit by the stairs you’re exposed to the drift of the door opening for service staff going for cigarette breaks.
Delightful food in a lovely restaurant.
What a great find! The food was amazing, love the concept and the service was spot on. Great cocktails as well at the bar. Would definitely recommend it if you’re in the area for dinner with friends or for a date in one of the booths. Thanks to the whole team for an amazing evening!
Second week in a row and still the best breakfast in the area. The staff even remembered us - is that a good thing? I wish I lived closer than Dundee
Food was all really tasty - couldn't fault any of it!
This was our first visit since the change to the new menu. To be honest I found it very difficult to choose something. It seems to be neither one thing nor another. And usually when I am having difficulty trying to choose something, I fall back on the burger option. However that doesn’t even exist so couldn’t do that. In the end I had the pigs cheeks, which were lovely. For starter we had the houmous with pitter bread, but the pitta bread was tiny and not enough for theGenerous portion of houmous. We were given additional pitta bread, but it would more make more sense at £7 to give sufficient pitta bread in the first place. Not everyone will ask for more, but will be left feeling cheated. My biggest issue, is the cost of the wine. There needs to be a bottle priced around the £20 mark for people to come back regularly. At the prices that are being charged, it becomes a treat to go there rather than a regular place that you would think to go on a regular basis. To start your wine around £35 a bottle, it’s not in keeping with the rest of Bermondsey Street, and a bottle of Malbec at £44 seems excessive. As a local I really want to be able to come here on a regular basis, but the price of the wine then makes everything else look expensive too.
Fantastic service . Genuine kind and professional staff. Amazing drinks and cocktail list . Great grub and always feel very welcome here . Thanks team . We will be back again soon 💎
A remarkable. Meal. With lovely staff. The perfect way to ease in to a Sunday. Morning. So good we shall be back next week from aberseen
starters were very good but mains disappointing and we pointed out that the dumplings were inedible nothing was done. the main was also microwaved to boiling point. Drink was expensive for portions ie cocktails.
Delicious food, great service and wonderful ambience. Sides were very expensive and not sure it was justified as they weren’t outstanding (£7 for 4 chips) but all of the other food was delicious. Really recommend the lamb and the brownie.
Nowhere near as good as village east. Food is overpriced and unspectacular. Very disappointing food experience. On the only plus side, the drinks menu is good
Cosy place for a brunch with friends. Wide variety of choice, waited only a little for drinks but overall good experience.
Disappointing that they serve the breakfast menu all day on Saturday (until 4pm)
Main area of restaurant has good atmosphere but round the back near the kitchen isn’t great.
Maître de was good, waitress was terrible and of course a place that adds 12.5% service so unless you want to cause a scene you have to pay for bad service.
The food served as Loyal Tavern was locally sourced and of superb quality. The service was nice and appropriate.
Great atmosphere as previously experienced when the venue with Village East. The service was friendly, but a little slow. The food was a high quality but lacked exciting flavour which I had previously experienced at Village East. Some things were fairly priced but other things I felt were very overpriced i.e, £4 for a bottle of sparkling water and £7 for a very small piece of flatbread with humous. However, the location is great and the decor - I would return if in the area but maybe not my first choice
Hi Charlotte Thank you for providing feedback, I will ensure that your comments are passed on to the relevant departments. Could you provide more details about the service, as in whether the waiter/waitress was slow to take your order or whether it was that the food took long to arrive. Any feedback you can give is invaluable as it allows us to improve for your next visit. Many Thanks Richard General Manager
Good neighbourhood brunch spot. Brunch menu has a good varied selection of dishes. We tried the cod, the veggie breakfast and the campfire, all executed well although I would’ve preferred mine served with whole meal bread but we weren’t given that option. Also, would’ve been better if they served freshly squeezed juice rather than what was available being juice from cartons only.
Hi Thanks for taking your time to leave us feedback. I will make sure that your points are passed on to the relevant departments as I agree these are things that we should look in to as we always try to improve. I notice that you only rated service as a 2 however haven't made any comments about service. Would it be possible for you to provide some feedback on service so I can look in to what happened. Many Thanks Richard General Manager
Food was really good. Wine list is quite reasonably priced (around a 2.5-3x mark up on retail). Sadly the service was quite clunky, we had to ask three times for one of our dishes.
Hi Jonny Thanks for your feedback. While I so glad you enjoyed the food, I am very sad to hear that the service wasn't up to standard and that you had to ask for your dish three times. I would love to get some more details about what exactly happened so I can improve our service. Many Thanks Richard General Manager
This night at the Loyal Tavern was just going to be a quick snack meal, drop in before going off to do other things. But OH MY WORD, WE LOVE this place. We were greeted by a very lovely and polite lady who asked immediately who's birthday it was. I explained it was our anniversary and my birthday one day apart so we were celebrating with this weekend away.
She took us to great seats on the side of the bar area. We could see what was going on so good vantage points. The waitress was also very lovely and congratulated us and wished me happy birthday. The wine was GSM and called Goats do Roam, it was delicious. We had the spiced lamb skewer with mint and almond aioli, with a kid goat and pork belly meat ball in plumb sauce. Both to die for. Service was quick but not too quick. It was great to savour the dishes.
The main we had planned to have was out the window once we heard about the 35 day cured beef, with green salad, and stinking bishop potatoes. Our wine and water glasses were replenished throughout, which to me shows they were attentive but not oppressive.
Then on to dessert, but not before the manager or front of house offered us both a complimentary glass of prosecco. totally unexpected and lovely too. The desserts were banana bread, mascarpone frosting, pistachio, coffee and toasted buck wheat; coal roasted pineapple with salted caramel ice cream. I was also given a happy birthday written in chocolate and a scoop of ice cream with a candle in it.
I totally felt happy, relaxed, full, and can't rave about this place enough. The bill was £112.00 which I think included service charge. We also left a £20 tip. I wish we had booked again for the Saturday main event as Hello Darling was a disaster and a total let down.
We LOVE Loyal Tavern so much.
Hi Ruth Thank you so much for such lovely feedback. It really means a lot to my team to get reviews like this and I will make sure this is passed on to the team who worked that evening. Hope to see you both again soon. Best Wishes Richard General Manager
Really delicious - especially the Stinking Bishop fondant potatoes and venison tartare. Can't wait to go back, especially to try and bar snack cheese toasties....
My new favorite place to be 😊 the food was fantastic and the cocktail menu was very innovative and I want to try everything!
Excellent food and service, will definitely be back soon!
The food was a bit hit and miss. Meatball starter was good but the lamb main was fatty and hard to cut. I have to say I liked this place better when it was Village East...better vibe.
The food was fantastic. Really impressed with the new opening. Particular highlights were:
Chicken skin cracking, hot sauce, blue cheese dressing
Lamb Rump, mushy marrowfat peas, mustard sauce
Coal-roast pineapple, salted caramel ice cream
Really talented cooking, great vibe and very friendly staff.
Been excited to try Loyal Tavern ever since it popped up on my radar. We went for date night, but could easily be a group of friends kind of place too. Tried lots of small plates and a few of the specials. Everything delicious. Staff was friendly and attentive. Will be back!
We had such a delicious Sunday brunch here in the opening week. The service was wonderful. Relaxed yet informative and prompt. The flavours sublime and awesome cocktail list! Definitely be back again soon!
Amazing food even though we were surprised that only the brunch menu not lunch was available at 12:30
Lovely food - we went as part of a soft launch so value was excellent. However, serious lack of vegan options (so one of our party made up something of sides but avocado was not available on the day as a side).
We went 2 days before full opening and had such a disappointing experience.. The food was well below average, small portions, overpriced and lacking in taste.. the lamb kebabs were the only dish we enjoyed.
service was bad - they forgot to bring out a dish we ordered, added a bottle of wine we hadn’t ordered to the bill and ran out of chips!
We used to come here a lot and it’s really disappointing to see it’s decline.
Amazing food and very good value. Would definitely return.
greatly improved menu..quite subtly / tasty British food vibe. Staffsuper friendly and attentive even on a busy opening week.
The food was fantastic, the waiting staff were very friendly and the atmosphere & setting were great! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a lovely meal in London!
It was just okay. Nothing special about the food. I had big expectations.
Went for lunch on soft launch to find they only serve a sort of breakfast. I checked but was never told this so wasted my time
The food was very tasty and the staff were friendly and helpful. Would certainly visit the Loyal Tavern again when in SE1
We went during the soft launch as we were excited to see what they were offering and we had a few nags which once smoothed the place would be good.
We really liked the ambiance and the design, great bar area.
However, the service was a little ad hoc. We had one waitress who was lovely, smiley, chatty but others hardly smiled and didn't engage.
They would top your water up constantly which is good but they never asked and just leant over you as you were eating.
The brunch menu looked nice but nothing different to what is on offer elsewhere but i am happy with salmon and eggs if done well. Unfortunately the toast served with the food counteracted the flavours and seemed bland which detracted from the food.
I also asked for just normal toast and jam but was told they may not have jam and will look...the toast came but was the chicken dripped toast not just normal toast that was requested. I was told by one of the waitresses that there was no jam but then the friendly waitress came over with jam a few seconds later...but jam and chicken dripped toast...
The loyal tavern has some good points and i would go for drinks as it's a good atmosphere but i left after brunch still hungry. If the service was addressed and some of the ingredients on the menu slightly adjusted i think the place was good.
