We went to Luciano's last night for my husbands birthday and it was absolutely appalling. We used to go to this restaurant frequently, but now every time we go, it just gets worse. Gone is the relaxing Italian crooner music in the background, replaced by loud euro pop and the subdued lighting has disappeared. Half the meals were not available and there was no rocket and the 'broccolini parmigiano' side was served as one big head of broccoli, undercooked and thrown on a side plate like a large brain sat in the middle of the table. My spaghetti pomodoro, which I chose as it actually had fresh basil in it, came unsurprisingly, with no basil. I asked the waiter if this had been forgotten and he said the basil could not be used as it had 'gone over?'..the waiter said he would discount the meal, but this didn't happen when we received the final bill. The carbonara was bright orange, absolutely vile and greasy, the gnocchi was hard and all our pasta was overcooked and stuck together, so much so that a knife and fork was required, not a spoon to twirl it. Very disappointed, it used to be such a lovely restaurant, a lovely ambiance and always lovely people. The dishes were simple but tasty and beautifully presented, but not now, how Marco Pierre White can allow this standard of food to be associated with his name, is beyond me. If I had made any of these dishes for my own family, to this appalling standard, I would be embarrassed to serve them. The only saving grace was the beautiful cocktail we had next door at the Vivo Lounge afterwards, to try and save my husbands birthday, more care and attention went into that one drink, than the entire meal we had at Lucianos. Where has it all gone wrong?? What a complete waste of money, never again.
When we arrived the kitchen was closed for cleaning, however the chefs accommodated our order.
Food is always delicious, the service is so much better!
We had a very friendly young guy, couldn’t fault him.
Really great place to eat as lots of variety and reasonably priced. Service and ambience great! Will definitely be returning.
Lovely Italian food. A good selection of pasta for both meat lovers and vegetarians plus a few other dishes. Friendly staff and management. Would definitely go again.
Toasted ciabatta served as Foccacia - and the waiting staff didn't appear to know the difference. Overcooked, bland Carbonara. Meatballs were cold on the inside. Wrong order brought to the table. Lighting harsh. Rocket salad so over-dressed that it had wilted, like cooked spinach.
The Spinach Ravioli was decent - quite a silky sauce and depth of flavour.
Beware - this is not a Marco Pierre White restaurant by any means - it's an average pasta place (as not much more on the menu). Makes me miss the good Jamie Oliver restaurants which aimed at a similar market but so much better. Overall very disappointing.
Some of our party were disappointed with the portion sizes.
The restaurant itself was felt to be rather stark and lacking any ambience, but the food was delicious.
Good service, friendly and efficient team.
Starters were nice.
Main course Spagetti Carbonara was poor. Sauce was congealed, spaghetti was one complete block.
On previous visits, food was outstanding but the overall experience was ruined by poor service. I am really pleased to say that that has now changed, and that the service is now excellent, thanks to a new team with excellent maître d.
Overall a nice meal. ‘Cool’ inside, no doubt due to the door being open all evening, probably cv19 related. Service was excellent and rapid from order to table. Meals were ‘nice’, although no one was ‘wow’d’ by flavours. Firm veg is nice but some of our party felt a little under-done. Sweets are mostly ice cream based, so limited in range. Shame no Gluten-free pasta available in an Italian (mainly pasta) restaurant ?? All in all, ‘good’, although not ‘great’.
Great food and great service. All at a very reasonable price.
Lovely clean restaurant with plenty of room . We had an excellent welcome from staff and quickly led to our pre booked table . Our choice from the menu was brought to the table quickly . Unfortunately the quality of my spaghetti pomodoro meal was poor . Tha waiter noticed and said he would mention it to the chef.
On booking I was asked if it was for an occasion .. a birthday ! No mention of this during the meal . Iy
The food was tasteful but the portion sizes were small for the value
Sat down at 7.30 and ordered at 7.45. Food arrived at 9.10 which was very late. Once it arrived it was luke Warm and was completely put off. Everyone was also sat very close together and felt very uncomfortable.
Unfortunately the plates were cold and consequently so was the food, especially the carbonara which was sent back twice and then not right. The pomodoro was very uninspiring and not saucy enough.
Table booking is easy online. Table presentation is poor. The overall impression was one of a fast food restaurant not fine dining. Menu voice is limited and not value for money.
Food was lovely and good value for money. We were sat way too near to the door so got a cold blast every time someone went in or out!
Fantastic food and service.
Lovely atmosphere, would highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely be going back very soon
Great Italian grub in a historic setting. Busy on the evening we went but the chefs and staff coped well.
Drinks arrived after starter, main pasta dish cold, medium steak well done !
One third restaurant no tables, all crammed into approx two thirds....
Poor service, rushed through 2 courses in 50 minutes !
Living local, will never return !
Me thinks MPW given up on this restaurant as awful dining experience !
Lovely atmosphere. Great service and yummy food for a good price. will be back soon
Friday lunch with a very quiet restaurant, preferred a larger table due to a business lunch but the host was not wanting this due to being a party of two. Certainly did not spoil a lovely lunch and would still very much recommend.
So pleased that Luciano’s has opened up on Carluccio’s site. Lovely meal, served in a timely fashion (needed to be out in time for the James Bond film!!) Needed to nudge for service but well looked after overall. Will definitely come again.
Amazing food and drinks lovely atmosphere good service
Staff were very attentive and pleasant. We had the most awful Carbanara I have ever had. First batch was cold. It was sent back. The second batch had this blob of sauce at the side which looked synthetic and like plastic cheese melted. It tasted truly unpleasant. I want this place to work. The staff were well organised and offered a free lemoncello but we thought for what we had the meal was over priced. Tiramasu was delicious. We paid £40 a head. Not worth it this time.
The pricing of the menu was odd in that the headline price disguised the fact that many dishes were £s extra.
The portions were modest especially the Ravioli which would barely warranted the price.
The carbonaro was weird in that it was Linguini with what appeared to be orange coloured cheese melted over the top with over cooked bacon bits scattered around. It was obviously placed under a very hot lamp as all the pasta had formed into one solid lump beneath the cheese or whatever it was.
On questioning why it was so odd (baring in mind I'm part Italian and spend a lot of time in Italy) I was told it was Luciano's Mother's recipe.
Plus I find it pretentious to charge Service charge on such modest fair, yet another disguised increase on the headline price.
Having said all that the service was charming and efficient and the building lends itself very well to its use.
I would recommend Luciano's to a friend but at the same time advise them of the shortcomings.
Our table for two was quite cramped and right up against a pillar. Our chairs were too low for the table and we noticed that other tables had a different type of chair to us. Those are our only complaints - everything else was fine. The food was very good and the staff were perfectly friendly and efficient. Good value for money too.
Delicious Italian food with amazing service! The menu is smallish but caters for everyone, would highly recommend. The name on the outside of the building does say Luccios so look for that when you go.
Our first time at Luciano's we all loved it. Food and service outstanding. We will definitely be going back.
Lovely meal quick service we went at the beginning of service second visit very good
The food was so plain and bland, lacking flavour, small portions very disappointing experience overall
Andrew and Tia were excellent hosts. The food was perfect.
Luciano’s appeared to be a high quality Italian restaurant, trading on the Marco Pierre White name. But the experience was really poor. Service was slow and inattentive. We waited for about 10 minutes for a waiter to arrive, and it was only because we caught the eye of the manager that someone was sent over. The staff were all friendly and polite but just seem very inexperienced, so that they do not spot that drinks are late arriving, or check that food is ok, and there was almost constant noise of cutlery being dropped on the way to and from the kitchen - I suspect this is a very young and poorly trained team.
On top of that, the food was nowhere near the quality suggested by the menu. When you see “parmigiano” listed as a main ingredient you would expect freshly grated shavings of cheese. Instead our meal had massive lumps of pre-grated Parmesan dumped in one place on the dish, without even an effort to distribute it across the dish. The Carbonara had a bright orange sauce plopped on top of half the pasta, again with no sense of presentation. And the sauce tasted slightly cheesy and nothing like any Carbonara I have ever eaten before.
Definitely to be avoided if you are looking for a quality Italian meal.
First time here and so impressed with literally everything ,I’ve seen a couple of negative reviews but we could not fault this place ,food was absolutely amazing and so nice to go to a restaurant around here and have really tasty food ,service was brilliant
Just can’t fault the place
Very welcoming staff, friendly and helpful.
The food was delicious and enjoyed by all.
A great place to celebrate with a group of family or friends!
Always a winner. Amazing pasta and the service was good!
Very poor main meal, Spaghetti had congealed and the flavour of an Arabiatta was lacking.
I went with a friend to have dinner at this excellent Italian restaurant in Dorchester. I had the beetroot for starter and found it tasty and fresh to eat. My friend had the melon and Parma ham, she too was delighted. For main course we each had Luciano's own ragu pasta and found the sauce to be rich with flavours, a pleasure to the taste buds. The sorbet/ice cream we had for afters also tasty and the right texture. All in all, a lovely meal and I am happy to go back there again.
We had a really lovely evening, food, service, ambience, everything. The outside heating works great. Something about being outside creates a friendly atmosphere amongst fellow dinners too. Final word has to be to truly fabulous pasta.
Friendly, quick and helpful service, pleasant surroundings, and good food. Ideally, I would have liked to see a bit more variety on the menu - e.g. including a clam or other seafood pasta (admittedly lobster was available), and pannna cotta, which were among my favourites at its predecessor. But then the bill would no doubt have to be higher. Overall, good value for money at the price point, and a very enjoyable experience. Would go again, and recommend to friends.
Food was ok, drinks came out way after main meal was ordered, bar service was slow
