French Onion Soup
Raoul says: "Best of Boston"
Steak Tartare (Tuna or Beef) *
with Onions, Cornichons, Mustard
Chocolate Mousse, Langue de Chat
I’ve been to many French restaurants all over the US but none have captured the unique feeling you experience sitting in a bistro on a sunny Saturday in Paris…..until now! Ma Maison is a little bit of Paris right here in Boston. Tucked on a corner in Beacon Hill this little gem of a spot has a full Parisian menu and ambiance that did not disappoint. My friend and I couldn’t decide so we shared the delicious Pate accompanied by just the right amount of mustard and cornichon w/ a basket of warm fresh bread and butter. Next we had the Nicoise and Croque Maison. Each was prepared and seasoned to perfection. The tuna in the Nicoise was sublime surrounded by just the right amount of anchovies and olives for a bit of salt and brine then balanced w/ a creamy boiled egg and tangy vinaigrette. The Croque was cheesy w/crispy edges, soft bread and filled with layers of ham & béchamel. All of this deliciousness was brought to us by a lovely French server and smiling staff that clearly went out of their way to create a memorable and safe experience. We can’t wait to go back again!
It was so noisy we could not even hear our waitress or talk with one another. Once the place cleared out, it was a better experience.
Delicious food, fine menu, friendly service, would definitely recommend
We dined at Ma Maison for our anniversary, and it was a wonderful experience! We were seated outside, which was lovely. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. They also gave us a complimentary toast and a delicious chocolate mousse for our anniversary! Overall, would highly recommend.
I and a friend decided to meet and have dinner early after work. The elevated trailer at the side of the building was where we sat outside. Besides mail and UPS trucks rumbling by, the outside area of the venue was lovely. Ma Maison's signature and specialty cocktails were great and mixed well with Uncle Julien'sCountry Pate. I had the Savory Souffle (the Tuesday daily special) while my companion had the sole. A culinary and mixology delight on Cambridge Street in Boston MA. Thanks for a great meal!!
Wonderful as usual.
My wife and I went to Ma Maison for our 1st anniversary. When we were seated at our table, the server brought out a complimentary cocktail for our anniversary. We were extremely pleased with the menu options and the Plat de Jour menu available.
For our meal, we started with a cheese plate from the Plat De Jour menu. A nice presentation and variety in the cheese offerings. My wife chose French Onion Soup and I chose the Cream of Mushroom soup from the Plat De Jour menu. Both were excellent. Our main courses were Veal Chop and Duck Magret. Both were cooked to perfection and full of flavor.
For desert, we chose Four Assorted Macarons and Passion Fruit Raspberry, and Cassis Sorbet. Once again, we were given a complimentary Mousse ah Chocolat for our anniversary.
The service was excellent and the added cocktail and dessert were certainly a great customer service experience for us.
We will return and recommend Ma Maison to friends.
Portions are somewhat large for a French bistro/restaurant
Our service was attentive and friendly. The meal was delicious. A good French bistro is getting harder to find and we were pleased to have found Ma Maison
We really enjoyed our meal.My family on my father's side is from France so I know a little bit about French food .The place is not big but the tables are well positioned not on top of each other.Decor was ok no French items on the walls like pictures or photos. It was clean .There were 3 of us 2of us had
coq au vin and the other beef Wellington which I grew up calling bouef en cruit All were excellent good sized portions and delicious. Beef Wellington had a perfectly crispy crust coated with a nice pate spread .so good I ,m thinking but not positive that it had truffles. Very good. Also fresh asparagus slightly crisp cooked perfectly not mushy . Coq au vin perfect. Bread was French style perfect crust. My daughter had a Salad Niçoise best I,ve ever seen fresh tuna not canned. Drinks were great a Kit Royal . Martini and a French IPA was a surprise very good. We were stuffed but because everything was so good
we decided to split a Napoleon which had a hazelnut spread and was a great finish with coffee. The staff was very nice they let us be seated earlier than our reservation as we showed up early. The place filled up and people who tried to get in without a reservation had to be turned away. Finally some French restaurant s have a snobby vibe not Ma Maison. This is the longest review I've ever given .Thanks
A neighborhood place, always dependable. Last night the outdoor dining was completely full by 6pm, so many were disappointed - but we sat indoors, fans were on, lots of air circulating, and a nice dinner.
Perfect bistro. Delicious, elegant, comfort food.
Excellent quality food always well-prepared and delicious! This is our local go-to place, and many times we’ve also eaten here with friends and relatives because I know we’ll always have a great culinary experience. We’ve probably had most items on the regular menu and all of them taste great. This time we had steak frites, ratatouille croque monsieur, salad with seared tuna, walnuts, etc, onion soup, foie gras, escargot, and chocolate mousse. There are many other excellent choices too (cheese plate selections, giant ice cream profiterole, pate, smoked salmon, sole……) along with daily specials and brunch items.
A very memorable meal! Everything about this restaurant is five stars.
You are the best French restaurant in Boston by far!
Lunch was ok, waitress was strictly mediocre.
Ma Maison has become my new go to place in Beacon Hill. Took a friend from out of town and was so delighted again with everything. The baguette at the start of the meal. The sauces …delicious. The drinks, well crafted. Save room for the wonderful selection of seasonal desserts. I have always thought it was great to have a place where you’re a “regular” and I think this is the place.
Celebrated 24th anniversary.
This is a hidden Gem....a lovely little French restaurant that has a neighborhood feel. Great food, the staff could not be friendlier and more helpful. A must visit!
Popular local bistro
Classic simple French food
Cosy yet allso elegant
One of our best meals EVER!!
Delicious food and fantastic service-- what is there not to like? The escargot and the veal chop were stand-outs. Frog legs were quite tasty too (tender and delicately breaded). Will be back.
It was good but we were expecting it to be great. We decided to try it during Restaurant Week so we expected they would do their best to get new clients. As I said it was good but not exceptional. It felt like they really didn't want to do the Restaurant Week specials. We arrived at 6pm, had to ask for the Restaurant Week menu and on ordering were told they were out of one of the 2 appetizers .. so early? The entrees, Veal & Pork, were fine but not outstanding. Seating and ambiance were good. Will try again sometime to see if they are up to their reputation and then maybe I could recommend it.
AS CLOSE TO "REAL" FRENCH DINING AS YOU ARE LIKELY TO GET IN BOSTON.
Ma Maison is an authentic French Bistro offering dishes that you don't often see on other French restaurant menus. (Different special every day of the week) Unpretentious food but very well-executed and reasonably priced. Friendly service and great atmosphere. Perfect neighborhood restaurant
A bit disappointed with the restaurant week menu - the swordfish was well-cooked but bland, served with plain rice and a few vegetables that tasted like they were previously frozen. The chicken substitution for the veal (ran out by dinner time 7:30pm somehow) was similarly uninspiring while the mushrooms accompanying it were overly tart. The dessert was tasty, probably the best part of the 3-course meal (but I just generally like dessert). Service was generally slow and I had to ask to get water refilled by the end. I may return to try some of the regular menu, but wish the food was fresher and more flavorful for the "dine out" experience.
Restaurant Week lunch at Ma Maison
Had a very leisurely lunch outdoors at MM. In fact, way too leisurely. The service was incredibly slow; 2 hours + for a prix fixe lunch. Also, we asked for separate checks and the server agreed, then presented us with one check when we were desperate to escape. Also, the blaring of ambulance sirens going to nearby MGH was constant. Food was ok.
The overall dining experience can't be great if the service is not! Our service was spotty and underwhelming. If you have to sit a long time and 1 person in your party has not arrived I think you might ask people if they would like a cocktail or appetizers... we had to flag someone down for both! It was not that busy yet.
If you order a bottle of sparkling water and the glasses on your table already have water in them, you bring new glasses!! You should not have to ask for them ...and then have it be suggested that when you drink the water in your glass you'll have a glass for the sparkling ! No & No.
Dirty dishes sat for awhile ...maybe the wait staff was new but honestly we never experienced that level of bad service dining here before .
We love this restaurant and will go back, but hopefully the staff won't be so cavalier next time!
C'est la vie I guess.
Pretty indoors and a very nice outdoor setup. Excellent service.
Lovely outdoor deck, authentic and well executed French cuisine, and kind attentive service.
My fiancé’s chicken coq au vin was bland
I needed to avoid gluten, and they were very accommodating and offered many choices from their menu.
I had the cog au vain and was quite disappointed. Very ample serving but very heavy in sauces, gravy, etc.
The night started a little rocky when we had to wait upwards of 15 mins to be seated. According to the details here, the reservation would’ve been cancelled if we were more than 10 mins late so waiting seemed rather unacceptable. After speaking with the manager, we realized their OpenTable profile needed to be updated - there was no longer a 90 min time max in light of the pandemic. She assured me that we’d be seated as soon as possible w/the same courtesy to stay as long aa we liked. Once seated, the service was superb. Our server Patrick was incredibly nice, and they gave us a complimentary round of their signature cocktail for the delay. My lamb shank wasn’t as flavorful as I expected but when I asked to replace my entree, I was obliged so graciously. They were aware that my family was celebrating my father’s birthday so they ended the night w/a surprise crème brûlée desert and even sang to him! All in all, a great time was had and I definitely plan to return.
we had a wonderful meal outside: very pleasant seating area, friendly waitress, excellent food. We ordered the Boston dine-out week 3-course menus and a great French white wine. Great food, great location, great service.
Sunday was a very special “mother and son” day. My son and his wife are moving back to CA next month. He and I wanted a day together and decided to start it in the beautiful, dappled shade of the outdoor seating area. Perfect choice. Everything added to our joy in the day - coffee hot, bread crusty and warm. Our meals (Croque Monsieur and steak frites) were very good. Service was perfection. We were given all the time we wanted to talk and enjoy each other’s company. This restaurant now holds special memories as well as excellent food.
We always love going to Ma Maison! It never disappoints, the food is always delicious and generous. I had the veal with mushrooms and it was outstanding. Our waiter Patrick was very attentive and accommodating. We enjoyed the wine list and had an outstanding Châteauneuf-du-Pape bottle of red wine. And finally the dessert was amazing! Bon appétit! Thank you a wonderful evening !
We were just in town for one night and wanted a pleasant neighborhood place for dinner. Ma Maison fit the bill perfectly. Lovely French bistro with traditional dishes, done well. Nice wine list.
Great staff and the food was delicious. Outdoor seating area provided beautiful atmosphere
