Food was good, although , the steak we ordered was inconsistent - somewhere it was well done, somewhere medium well, although, we ordered it medium, I expected better for steak which cost £100. The waiter brought us another dish which was cooked beautifully. But it wasn’t T-bone steak which we initially wanted.
Another criticism is that we weren’t offered to taste wine. We ordered 2 glasses of wine which were quite expensive, and it was brought in the glasses. We didn’t see the bottle, we didn’t have a chance to try if it’s good, and if we like it. It’s dissapointing.
The bones for starter were wow! Service was great.
Highly overpriced - the meat is not as good as they make out and certainly not aged for the length of time they state. Yes, there are show meats but what we had was tough with a lot of gristle.
Waiting staff were pleasant though stressed as overworked - as a consequence service was all over the place.
Restaurant was very loud and hot, which the low ceiling didn't help - not a pleasant atmosphere.
Overall a poor experience.
It's not about the money - I am happy to pay for good quality; and =know good quality. I will stay with Hawksmoor and Goodman's - much better.
Chose this restaurant because of its situation between two theatres.
The food - we had lamb chops - was superb (just one course for us before the performance).
Loved the restaurant set up and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We will certainly return
This place is a proper steakhouse; not that much Italian. Or we may just do not know this part of the Italian cousine.
The food was delicious. The service was excellent.
Food was overcooked, bland, and overpriced.
Wine was the only thing that was good.
The starters were burnt, and I let that go and didn't raise this.
Main course: The steak (£75) was requested medium-rare, this was dry (overcooked), I asked for some sauce, peppercorn, or some other sauce. The waiter said, "We have no sauce, this is not a pub". Note to Macellaio: Never should staff talk to customers in such a rude way.
Unimpressed with the food, this was bland, and feel the food was not worth the premium price.
We complained to the manager, and he offered us a free drink, to which we declined. Thereafter the service was much improved. (Hence: Rating changed from Terrible to Poor)
I read mixed reviews on this place and gave it the benefit of doubt, a decision I now regret. Disappointing restaurant.
Too formal & really expensive compared to other restaurants of a similar calibre
Great little Italy 🇮🇹 in Central London. Great service, food and drink. My only could do better comment was table for 4 was too small and we needed to use floor for bottles and move plates and trays to allow the food on the table. Hope to be back again soon
Very good, really enjoyed it
Fantasic meal. Steak was amazing and the service was great.
This is a strange concept. Italian restaurant on paper, looks like a very typical French brassiere in terms of Devore and it’s serves steaks as main focus on the menu. The food was actually delicious and good portions, nice tartar and nice charcoal grilled flavoursome steak, lovely deserts., the wine list is also good, with some nice choices and we loved the Malbec from Puglia. And we very quickly chose what we want to eat however: it took someone good 30 minutes to come and take our food order which meant that our starters arrived one hour after we were seated. For me that wasn’t a huge deal, but when we finished starters, the mains arrived very quickly which felt rushed and once we finished mains we were told we can only have coffee as our slot is finished in 10 minutes! As we all wanted to have deserts, we voiced our dissatisfaction very strongly and the waiter at first did not want to take our deserts order, but then turned around and actually offered them to us a fryer some discussion and did so complimentary, which was nice touch. one person from our party was little upset and he came back to our table to try justify the delay which at that stage unnecessary as he already recovered the situation. He also removed the service charge, which was polite of him, but wasn’t something we asked for. Overall, this argument about desert left a bitter sweet taste in my mouth and it wasn’t from the dark chocolate mousse. Would I go back? 🤔 I would like to give it another chance, but I hope not to be keeping my eye on the watch all the time.
My companion had lamb shanks and he declared that it was the best lamb he'd had since he didn't know when. I had pasta ragu and that was lovely too. This restaurant has red meat as a specialism and so will not appeal to everyone but if you do like red meat then I would recommend it unreservedly.
Waiters were efficient and unobtrusive.
A very authentic steakhouse with cozy atmosphere in the heart of London! Highly recommend the Bistecca alla Fiorentina !!
Great service and great food. Although opentable tells you 5+ party has table for 3 hours, this is not true, had for 2 hours. But was great experience overall. Lively staff and lovely food.
Busy steak restaurant with Italian flare.
Excitement food and service
Ordered from the pre-theatre menu. Excellent food and service
Pre theatre dinner with attentive service, good food and fun atmosphere. Would recommend. Go early for ‘at table food prep’.
Great steak and excellent service!
Fantastic! Food outstanding and I really mean fantastic. Love the vibe of the place with friendly knowledgable staff. Added it to my list of top notch London restaurants. Very relaxed and you will love it.
Tried to gain a booking on a previous visit to London but wasn’t successful
Happy to have success on our trip this time
Food unbelievable service tremendous the atmosphere was buzzing the whole time we were there
It’s a must place to visit if you can so why not pop in and see for yourself don’t take my word for it
Popular spot in Soho revamped. Not cheap but food is good and the staff are professional and friendly.
Took my partner there on a date , due to the reviews regarding steaks.
Was full of after work get together involved bottles of wine and poor language.
Asked to be moved to the empty seating area upstairs and was told that’s reserved for group bookings… it was empty!!
Not the best way to spend over £200!
I should know

We hope to receive the opportunity to change your mind.We apologise again.
A pleasant surprise for lunch despite being on the busy Shaftesbury Ave inside the restaurant is charming. Service too and knowledgeable - their own beef makes this a special menu for steak lovers.
Perdonale gentile bella location ottima la carne
I’m not sure what happened as my friends all love this place but we had a pretty shoddy experience. We had to send our chips back as they weren’t properly cooked and my friend’s lamb so pink it was basically raw.
I have been eating at Maccellaio for years. I decided to try the new West End location before a musical. We had the Pre-Theatre menu. I didn't think their steaks could get better, but they did. The steaks are cooked over coal. The service was gracious and attentive. The new location is beautiful and has an open kitchen so you can see the spectacle of your food being prepared. I will be definitely be going back.
Very good service, lovely food and great wine. The full package.
Ok so this is a proper Italian restaurant. It’s not cheap but neither is a Dolce snd Gabbana coat-you’re paying for the quality and the attention to detail. We had the three course theatre meal and the food was excellent quality, taste and great portions size and for £35 you will not find better. The wine menu is quite expensive so they could do with a few more bottles around the £40 mark. The service was excellent and not too fussy and they had a great live singer. For a moment I felt like I was in an Italian restaurant in New York. It’s a great restaurant and I’ll be going back. The theatre menu and wine came to about £125 for two so reasonable for this great place.
