The ambiance is great and you get a lot of treats for the price. The food is all delicious the tea is good too. The staff were very friendly and our server was a character. We had a great experience because of the staff and their attention to our special occasion.
Birthday but the taste did not live up to the look
Absolutely loved everything about this afternoon tea so much detail the staff were so friendly and the place was simply beautiful.
Cool Restaurant, with cute little details regarding Alice in wonderland
My friend and I visited the Sanderson for the Mad Hatter's afternoon tea as it was my birthday and we were the only ones there to start with but when we left it was full up. The waitress was very friendly and explained about all the different teas, I had the Cheshire Cat tea which had orange and chocolate (plus a few other ingredients) and was very nice, the cake stand arrived with some beautiful looking cakes and tiny sandwiches, and some scones with cream and jam, was all very delicious even though we had to take some of it home in a doggy bag as so much. It was a lovely experience, I received a lovely little birthday cake with a candle as well, which was nice. We sat at tables outside but there were heated lamps and pink Laurent Perrier blankets to keep us warm and it looked really pretty with lots of pink flamingoes dotted around! will definately go back some time even though a bit pricey.
We went for our wedding anniversary and loved it. The marshmallow mushrooms were our favourite .
An excellent afternoon for a birthday treat. Most impressed will definitely book again.
Very nice staff !
Cake and tea are very good.
But, we wanted to sit garden but couldn't.
My daughter was very disappointed.
I would love to say that it was amazing but it just wasn't. We came to celebrate our daughter's first communion and were genuinely disappointed by the quality of food, service and value for money. Would have been happy to pay the price if the experienced had even lived up to a little bit to its promises. We expected a little bit of magic and theatre I guess (when its named Mad Hatter's Afternoon Tea!) but instead our girls got really watery hot chocolate, sandwiches which were going dry and curly (think sandwich tray that's been sitting in a meeting room for hours) and yes the little cakes were ok but really just ok. Oh and the food didn't arrive for 45 minutes and we had to prompt staff for both food and drinks. Save your money and go elsewhere. Also, side note - but the Sanderson is in serious need of a refurb. Talk about resting on your laurels.
On the whole the experience was not an unpleasant one apart from the service which I thought was terrible
Had such an amazing afternoon with my friend! Great food and laughs the whole time, and the tea was divine (-:
The afternoon was so delicious! We enjoyed everything, loved the mad hatters tea party theme and the setting in the hotels courtyard was lovely, so unique to be eating outside. Plus as I booked through opentable and I saved 20% off my bill! We were there for my partners birthday and a lovely touch at the end was the cake they brought out, with candle and happy birthday message. All in all the whole experience was a perfect way to make my partners birthday.
It was a wonderful atmosphere and experience. It is a bit over priced and the service was a bit too slow. However the tea was wonderful and I highly recommend trying it!
Afternoon tea was great however based on the price I do not see this as value for money. Our initial table was a poor location, in the corner. The location was changed to the opposite side. The dressing of the table took some 10 minutes while myself and our guests waited on the side. Food was ok however the desserts by fair outweighed the sandwiches.
I would have preferred to see sandwiches with vegetables, hommus, avocados rather than plain, dry tasting cheese, quail egg ( especially as I advised verbally, I do not eat eggs).
Tea was fine however we received two tea pots for 3 people, our expectation was a least one tea pot person.
All in all an experience of afternoon tea which was enjoyable.
It was a very enjoyable afternoon, great food, excellent service and wonderful ambiance
Overall, very lovely experience and lovely decor to make the afternoon tea something to remember with great service. The mad hatters afternoon tea however was extremely overpriced for what it was and what you got and therefore will not be returning based on this factor.
Disappointing overall and very much over priced for what it was. Despite booking in advance we had to wait nearly 30 mins for our table. A bottle of house champagne was over £120 which we felt was just a rip off. Service was not attentive. Don’t understand why it’s called mad hatters as it’s not really themed apart from the crockery. There are far better afternoon tea experiences. Won’t be returning.
Had a fantastic time at Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea. The table was ready and waitress immediately offered glass of water. Food looked amazing and tasted very good. Was also offered more sandwiches if we wanted. Good waitress and ambience was great. My guests all loved the hanging basket chair with roses, great for photos. Would certainly come here again.
Had a wonderful experience, food was lovely the service was very good. Our waitress was very friendly and professional. We even got a complimentary round of drinks as they felt we had waited too long for our food. We hadn’t even noticed as we was too busy soaking in the atmosphere and enjoying our tea. Would definitely recommend as a treat.
They never offered us tea. They never explained the food, we had to ask. They never gave us napkins. Pretty disappointed.
Very slow service & incredibly expensive
You can get much better value for money at the other hotels in the area for Tea.
Most special of our day was my waiter manon. Was really nice and make us feel really excited about AT but when all arrive was really disappointed.
Lovely idea but poor service and quality of food. The tea is served on themed crockery but the sandwiches were dry. I have been before and it was lovely - so perhaps just a bad day.
Booked this for a friend’s hen-do. The food was lovely, but unfortunately, though the waiting staff were friendly, the service was incredibly slow. I’m not sure if the staff were spread really thin or what, but we arrived exactly on time for our booking, to be told our table wasn’t ready, and then sat and waiting nearly 15 minutes for someone to walk close enough to our table for us to be able to ask for some water. Then waiting another 20 minutes for tea...and another 40 minutes for our food. It also took nearly 20 minutes for someone to come back with a card machine after asking for the bill. If you’re going wack on 15% service charge I’d expect the service to be far better. The toilets were also quite dirty and had no soap. There are similarly priced - and far better value -places to go for afternoon tea in central London.
Poor service - had to wait ages to get anything then repeatedly ask for things that weren’t coming. Food had gone cold when it arrived (croque monsieur). A pigeon was next to our table pecking off a tea plate that had been left on the side by our table. Very over priced for poor quality.
The Mad Hatter's Afternoon Tea was a lovely experience. The intricate design of all the cakes and desserts was amazing, and the tea was sublime. My favourite tea was Queen of hearts with a vanilla flavour, and the Cheshire Cat one was also pretty nice. The cute little drink me potions, chess style chocolate cake bites and mini sandwiches were so cute. The service was top notch, although there was a 10% service charge despite it being only two if us. It is one of the very high end expensive places of Afternoon tea (Including service charge we paid ~£110 (55.20 pp), but for that special occasion and for those who love Alice, it's a lovely treat. They also have some pretty cocktails as well as coffees and regular tea.
I was treated to afternoon tea for my birthday, it was a Mad Hatter/Alice in Wonderland theme and it was lovely!
The food was good and the staff were friendly and attentive.
Amazing experience and very memorable !
Just the right place to celebrate and feel as if you are in enchanted place
Celebrated a birthday
Came here with my daughter as a special treat. The atmosphere is perfect for celebrating a special occasion. It’s a bit pricey but the menu is very unusual and the theme is played very well. The service was excellent. We absolutely loved it and I would definitely recommend it as a special treat.
The tea itself was cute but quite expensive for the quality of food. Hotel is nice but they could decorate it a bit more as it’s a really nice space they just haven’t done that much with!
the afternoon tea was very nice except for the scones which were a bit dry.
A £15% service charge was added to the bill which we would rather not have paid, if we could of chosen how much service charge we would give it would of been approximately £5.
I brought my mum here for afternoon tea. The Alice in wonderland theme was very clever but classy. It was a nice day to sit outside but could be cold to sit on a colder day.
1 person seemed to be doing all the work, although there were plenty of staff. Nice sandwiches and cakes, but poor value for money. My daughter described the feel of the place as being in a garden centre. It really was only a slight nod at Alice in wonderland rather than a luxury experience.
Whilst the patio/garden is a nice place to sit for afternoon tea, there wasn’t really an awful lot that was “down the rabbit hole” with the experience. The food was very nice, the teas were also delicious. Usually something sold on a theme has average food. This one has good food but oddly the theme is not there. Some odd flavours and a party hat on a tea kettle doesn’t make it Alice in Wonderland. I had to actually tell my partner that it was the Mad Hatters Tea Party or she wouldn’t have known! We had our baby with us and the staff were very accommodating and very helpful - the best thing about it to be honest. Having said that the high chair we were given was not clean and that could do with some improvement. Basically, it’s good, but needs some work to make it feel a little more special. If we had an older child they would have been bored!
We celebrated my daughter’s 20th birthday.
The service was lovely, the food was gorgeous, the ambience was luxurious....great experience
The staff was incredible, and the food was to die for. Everything I bit into exceeded my already high expectations. Come hungry!
Exceptional food, value and service. A perfect afternoon.
I booked the Madhatter afternoon tea for my daughter and myself for the first reservation of the day. When we arrived the host said we had to wait until our table was ready. I wish the host told us when to return because we sat nearby the bar and watched another family come in and were seated right away. We had to wait again for the host to seat us. During the tea, I asked for a refill of water. The waiter said okay but never returned with water. After ten minutes, I saw another server walking around offering water to other tables and then proceeded to pour water at tables with no one seated there. Another server came over to tell him not to pour water at empty tables so I got her attention and asked for a water refill. Rather than fill my glass with the cold water with lemon in the pitcher, she gave me the half-filled room temperature glass that the server began to pour at the empty table. I wanted to enjoy our experience however the staff did not seem interested in giving us the same level of customer service as other guests. We felt overlooked and forgotten.
The food choices and presentation were excellent. The service was polite but very slow and unresponsive. The food was mediocre in terms of quality for the savory items. The sweets were better in terms of taste and texture. A bit pricey for the quality of both food and service.
