Made a reservation with my wife for a casual weeknight out. We were greeted and seated right away, which was nice given that the restaurant was empty (maybe that’s the norm for a weekday dining, first time here). We were also told about the specials for the evening. So far so good.
We decided to order the Tropical Crab Stack and Fried oysters for starters. When our server came to take our order, only then were we told there was no fried oysters available. No biggie, stuff happens. So we replaced the fried oyster for Shrimp cocktail.
Few minutes later, we got the tropical crab stack order, but was told that the shrimp cocktail was also unavailable. (Hint: would be nice if staff knew what’s available for the evening and what is not available, especially given that it was a quiet evening with virtually no one dinning in given the amount of space and tables that were open!
For our entree, we ordered crab legs (seasonal) with sides of fries and coleslaw. Let’s just say the crab legs were too Luke warm, soggy, sticky, and pretty much unappetizing. The coleslaw had so much mayo it was really disgusting.
We also ordered the Tuna crab special for the night, which was crab over tuna fillet and two sides…so we order garlic mashed potatoes and Cesar salad for sides. The garlic mashed potatoes was too cold, we just took few bites and left it. The Cesar salad was ok, actually my wife thought it was the best food out of everything we had
It’s understandable that due to covid, restaurants are short staffed and errors with orders are bound to happen. But being told certain items are unavailable (when we could’ve been told ahead of time), being told another item is unavailable (after we have ordered it), pretty much ruined the whole experience, not to mention the price wasn’t really worth it compared to other seafood restaurants in the area.
Nonetheless, our server was nice, and the waterfront view was also great. Live 2 miles away, but don’t think I’ll come back again!
Our first hostess made us wait 40 minutes to be seated (while patio tables were freely given before our eyes) and then she left - also disregarding our treat request for my daughter’s birthday! Our second host seated us immediately. He and most specially our server (Kaniya) made all the effort and provided us with excellent great service. Very unfortunate to give a low rating to a nicely placed restaurant, with live music and views.
Ian the server was fabulous. The food and table were great.
You should eliminate Open Table as an option for dining at Madigan's Waterfront.
I made a reservation on Saturday Sept 5th for the following evening. When arriving I was told there were no inside tables and everyone was being seated outside. Because I made an outside reservation I was told I would be moved up from the 45 minute wait time. Our party had to wait an excessive amount of time for wait help. I had to go to the hostess to complain. We were seated in the dining area on pillowed seats awaiting a table. When the hostess told us we had to move, she ended putting us at a table next to where we were waiting, but told us it would be a while before we were provided service. The young man who ended up helping us was considerate and as helpful as possible. Until the service is improved and the restaurant is able to fully open, I would not recommend Madigan's for dining.
It was our anniversary and we dressed a little nicer, but outside seating being at a boat dock and paddle board rental, everyone else was dressed more casual, which was fine. The food and service were very good.
This was our second time eating here. The first time the service was pretty bad but we thought we would give it a second chance. Our waiter was good no issues there. We did find mold in our sour cream and had to let the manager know. I’m pregnant and luckily my dad caught it before I ate it. I could of ended up in the hospital from eating bad food. They didn’t seem too concerned they said they took care of the issue (threw the moldy sour cream out) I know things happen and they can’t control every bad batch of whatever but they should be checking inventory and etc periodically. I doubt I will come back due to this experience.
Food was great. Don’t waste your money on the drinks. The margarita was a 1/2 Oz of tequila and water. Beer had to be returned twice before we finally got a cold bottle.
Service was very inexperienced ver nice. All got served dinner but me. Had to ask a few times.

Food was delicious. Staff friendly and attentive, although it took a little while to take our drink order. But overall, nice place on the water.
Hostess wouldn’t seat us outside, claiming there was an hour-plus wait. I walked outside and saw literally seven open tables. Menu selection was meh, nothing appealing to the “big salad”-loving tastes. View of the water was blocked. Waitress attempted to rush us , even though it was 2 pm and well past the lunch rush. Not worth the drive from DC. Won’t be back.
The only reason to eat here is to enjoy the view on the river. Other than that, I have neutral feelings about the food. The menu listed on open table is not actually available in restaurant. It has been significantly paired down due to covid. The fish tacos were whatever. I ate it, but felt like I could make better fish tacos at home. Chips soggy. Our waitress Alexis was lovely. The hostess did not seem to know how to do her job.
Ideal scenario for this restaurant would be to get some apps and a glass of wine while enjoying the view from the deck. Probably wouldn't recommend eating an actual meal here.
A place I used to frequent a lot . We arrived and no line but 7 parties got to be seated before us. I already had a conversation with the manager. Eventually we got seated for 11:30 AM lunch reservation. The service was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL 🙁😠 the food was good . The atmosphere was great . Finished lunch around 12:40 . Our server disappeared. Needed takeout boxes and 15 minutes later we got them . So there was NOT a scene - my wife sent me to the car . Around 1:10 the check arrived. I was told to Stand down . At 2:00 PM someone took the check. Very Very disappointed. But this time- multiple Covid protocols violations- it took just under 2:30 hours. Will not be going back- pity because this situation was 100% avoidable. My review be generous if they got 1 star . Management was aware of the situation and DID NOTHING. Service was ok but everything else wasn’t. Beer was warm from the taps, food was NOT good and floors sticky. We’ve been here before and liked it a lot but it has gone down hill through the past few years.
Menu was not what was advertised on open table. Burger was overpriced and undercooked, actually raw (and no bacon). Couldn’t complain because the wait staff never checked on us. For a restaurant that has so much potential and was just not that busy the experience was awful. Won’t go back despite the water front seating, which by the way is situated in front of a kayak rental slip, so not much to see.
We decided to have our first work lunch since the pandemic and this was the perfect spot! We were able to sit on the patio which looks out on the water and it was definitely a peaceful way to take a midday break at. I had the mahi-mahi tacos and they were delicious! Definitely enjoyed the fries and barbecue sauce was a hit for me! They could definitely work on the mixed drinks The Daiquiri was okay for the most part. Definitely great place to escape to if you want to take a lunch break while at work.

Decent setting (back porch/waterfront). Food was mediocre (shrimp under-seasoned and over-cooked). Service was good. Bartender changed and drinks were very different after the switch, even though we ordered the same thing.
Loved the riverside view from the table we used on the deck to celebrate my friend’s birthday! The day was sunny with mild weather, which were perfect combo for us coming from dc. The food from the abbreviated lunch menu was fine a beautiful day, no one was complaining.
We made a reservation at what we thought was a romantic waterfront restaurant in a historic little town. Arrived to mostly empty restaurant at prime dinner time on a weekend; turns out that likely has little to do with Covid. There were several dinner options that looked appealing on Open Table menu, but none of those were on actual restaurant menu, so we were already settling. Waitress was wearing her mask below her nose, which was super annoying, but we let it go since we’re vaccinated. 15 minutes after ordering, she comes to tell me my side is unavailable, so I changed it to onion rings. Another 15 minutes later, the restaurant calls me on my phone to ask if we’re still coming. Uh, yeah, I’m literally in the restaurant waiting a half hour for food I’m not even excited about. Our meals finally come out... a presentation worthy of paper plates. My crab cakes were undercooked & doughy, and the onion rings were cold & greasy. Our soup & salad never made it out. Despite restaurant being virtually empty, waitress never came to check on us after order arrived. We basically had to flag her down to ask for our soup & salad. No apologies at all & by the time she brought that out, we were done eating. She was just terrible. She clearly didn’t want to be there, and neither did we. She took our plates away and twenty minutes later we had to ask for the check. Took another ten minutes to get it. The service was so bad we didn’t feel comfortable paying by credit card & really didn’t want to wait any longer to finally leave, so cash it was. Worst meal we’ve experienced in the Woodbridge area. We will absolutely not be back.

The food quality for the price is substandard. I would return but just for a drink to sit by the water.
We were seated quickly and given options on seating. Services was a little slow but the server was friendly and helpful. The food was very good but quantity on appetizers was a little small for the prices. I would eat here again. We enjoyed our meal.
Excellent prime rib overlooking the Potomac River.
Overspiced scallops, ordered prime rib and received an overcooked ribeye, poor service--could not get out of there fast enough. They did have a good, live cover band.
I met up with a sorority sister I hadn’t seen in years. The lunch was very good, and I loved our waiter. He was attentive to us and didn’t try to rush us.

This was my first visit to this restaurant. The service was so poor I actually left without eating dinner. They attempted to serve my dinner twice; first time crab legs were cold and second time sent it to the wrong table without the any of the requested sides. It’s unfortunate since it was a nice atmosphere in a beautiful location. I’ve learned my lesson with this experience, take the Open Table reviews seriously.
