About Magpie

Magpie is a modern British restaurant tucked away on Heddon Street, behind Regent Street.

Coming from the team behind Hackney's Pidgin, we call our food 'modern European' which basically means nothing and everything at the same time. Dishes aren't rooted in any particular cuisine but instead focus on great ingredients combined to make something that is above all delicious but that also contains some element of surprise - whether that's Jerusalem artichoke with a ranch butter sauce and avruga caviar, steak tartare with truffle crisps and taleggio or oysters with apple and chilli crisp.

Our wine list includes the biggest selection of wines on tap in London, as well as a small list of wines by the bottle, all from independent and independently minded producers.

Cocktails are potent and fun and include a szechuan pepper oil negroni and a kombu-infused martini.

We look forward to seeing you at Magpie soon.

Surely my highlight of the year 2017. Innovative cooking with quality products and yet not pretentious. Very attentive and professional service with a team eager to listen to their customers as much as they love to share their knowledge. The place is exactly what 'selling memories' is all about and look forward to come back.

We are from San Francisco and LOVED this place.
Truly innovative menu, small plates surprised and delighted us at every turn. Fantastic and unexpected flavor and texture combinations. We had to restrain ourselves from ordering more - the food was sooo good. Lively atmosphere and very warm friendly staff. Would go back constantly if we lived here !!!!

Fantastic atmosphere in a very stylish room and the food is simply superb, beautifully presented, original and subtle tastes, lots of small plates to share or not, foodies heaven. Staff is super friendly and enthusiastic and the barman makes delicious cocktails. Been dining there several times and can’t wait to go back.

Staff were friendly and accommodating from the get go. Food was excellent and creative, though slightly small in portion size. I guess this was due to the fact that it was intended to be done 'dimsum' style. Ordered food came quick, while the trays could have been a little more forthcoming. The atmosphere and friends made the time pass very quickly though. Would definitely recommend a visit.

In the smorgasbord of dining options in London, we found a real gem. Magpie's dishes delighted the senses. The simple but highly effective flavour combinations left me eager to start experimenting in the kitchen. The cabbage, lime pickle and hazelnut was so suprising and delicious, I'm still talking about it. Another highlight was the mushroom and barley risotto with mole verde - different flavours in each bite, balanced by a perfectly seasoned risotto base. I appreciated the friendly and efficient, but not overbearing service. I can't wait to visit again.

We were a bit 'hangry' at the start (the downside of trolley service) but once food started arriving it was almost uniformly excellent: rice paper & noodles, arancini, coq au vin, fermented pear, etc. The Japanese Caesar salad was the least successful, but still very nice. Arguably the best thing of all is the oysters & the bread at the start, which we had 2 rounds of. Highly recommended.

Really nice! Food was delicious and all dishes very unique. I did expect a bit more variety but it wasn’t actually necessary as every dish was amazing. Service was fine. Will definitely return and recommend

Magpie is an interesting dim sum style way to eat through their menu. The food was fresh, flavorful and interesting, but the random tray and trolley appearances throughout the meal were a bit awkward. The approach needs a bit of polishing. Fun concept, but be prepared to spend a lot of attention on ordering food rather than your company.

Imagination drove each of the plates which rolled out and all were sublime with the exception of one (a spin on pain perdu with epoisses which landed on the heavy, dull flavoured side). Cocktails were true works of art; complex but approachable and never threatening to overwhelm the food. Staff was delightful. Prices were correct for the area. A location which will jump to the front of my mind when asked where to eat in the area.

The food was tasty but not mind blowing and the dishes were very small for the price. We went for a special occasion and left feeling like we could have had more fun (and more food) elsewhere. Very attractive set up and very attentive staff but it feels like the focus of this restaurant is profit as opposed to customer experience. In a city where there is so much to eat we are unlikely to be back.

We were moved away from the table near the entrance as soon as another one was available.
Interesting combination of ingredients, some dishes with a better result than others.
Attentive waiters and free glass of wine fro the inconvenience of moving table.
a bit too noisy.
overall good

The food is good with interesting flavour combinations that almost make it into great... just a touch more seasoning please. The plates are small, beautifully presented but do leave one wanting more.... that's a good thing by the way. The service is very, very good... well trained and knowledgeable staff... though I do wonder how they'd cope with a really busy service. I love the open kitchen and that you can see the food being prepared. There's a couple of dishes that I'm definitely going to copy. Wine list is small, a little pricey but very well thought out. I recommend the coal-roasted beetroot, seaweed curd and furikake; short rib, red cabbage and fried gnocchi... went very well with the Riesling on tap.
