Magpie is a modern British restaurant tucked away on Heddon Street, behind Regent Street.

Coming from the team behind Hackney's Pidgin, we call our food 'modern European' which basically means nothing and everything at the same time. Dishes aren't rooted in any particular cuisine but instead focus on great ingredients combined to make something that is above all delicious but that also contains some element of surprise - whether that's Jerusalem artichoke with a ranch butter sauce and avruga caviar, steak tartare with truffle crisps and taleggio or oysters with apple and chilli crisp.

Our wine list includes the biggest selection of wines on tap in London, as well as a small list of wines by the bottle, all from independent and independently minded producers.

Cocktails are potent and fun and include a szechuan pepper oil negroni and a kombu-infused martini.

We look forward to seeing you at Magpie soon.

this has now become my favourite restaurant. everything was exceptional: the food, the service, the ambience. And prices are very reasonable. There's nothing quite like it in the west end. Loved it!

Interesting dishes which tasted great. Only thing is a couple of the portions were far too small but we did try a lot of the menu as a group and felt quite full afterwards. Would definitely recommend this place to others.

Without doubt my favourite place in London for lunch or dinner - unique vibe. Do you do breakfast?🤔

Had a really lovely meal here recently on a Sunday afternoon. We were offered a booth instead of a smaller table for 2 which was nice, and the staff were super friendly and helpful.
Food was fresh, innovative and tasty. We enjoyed the wine and relaxed atmosphere. Didn’t feel rushed. Would definitely recommend to others. Only downside was that the loos were unisex and a little “industrial” but this is just me nitpicking.

A flawless dining experience: delicious, interesting, unconventional food that is somewhere between tapas and regular meal, certainly just right for sharing. Served at a perfect pace to keep the evening going at just the right speed - not too fast, not too slow. Service was spot-on - super friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Great ambience and location. Filtered water (still or sparkling) served with no charge, almost unheard of in London. All in - a top notch dining experience.

What a great find. They have snacks, small plates and large plates, so if you are a couple you can try loads of different things. The cooking here is really top notch with inspired flavour combinations. A couple of our favourites were:
Belly of lamb slow cooked then barbequed, served with pineapple sauerkraut – WOW
Crab with pear, pinenuts and gochujang mayo – fabulous
We are definitely going back.

I met a friend here for lunch. I chose the restaurant for its location and off the back of good reviews on Open Table. I was a little surprised when I arrived to find that I was the only customer. A few more people arrived during the course of our meal which made the event a little more interesting. The service was good and the food was excellent - modern and innovative without losing sight of the necessity of tasting great and using good quality ingredients. I guess it may be more of an evening venue. I certainly plan to go again.

Hit and miss on the food. The chicken dish was fantastic, so good that we ordered two. The polenta bites were delicious, who knew polenta could be sexy. Japanese salad a bit too boring and bland, the mussels so so and also a bit bland, the sea trout nice but far far too small a portion, considering it’s a tapas kind of place so you’d be sharing anyway. The dessert - actually called the birthday cake - just a big no. It’s like they ran out of the actual cake, found some crumbs and powders at the back of the cupboard and sloppily emptied it onto the plate. Beetroot, mango, chilli, lactose, raspberry powders - all on the same dessert. Doesn’t go. At all. Nevertheless, it was a memorable meal, in equal measures of good and bad hence the 3 stars. Unlikely to return unless the menu is seasonal and changes to a) slightly bigger portions and b) slightly bolder flavours and c) definitely no birthday cake on the menu.

It was freezing in the restaurant which unfortunately took away from the experience. Food was excellent and good value. But no heat on a very cold day, no heat in the bathroom and only cold water!

Really amazing food, my favourites include the steak tartar and deep fried chicken! Staff are really welcoming and friendly, even the chefs say hello as you walk past the open plan kitchen! Have been to Magpie a few times now (a business lunch and a night out with friends) and already planning my next visit!

Having visited and loved Pidgin I surprised my partner to Magpie for his birthday and we were not disappointed. Our server was super friendly and informative when we had any questions on the menu. All the dishes we tried were amazing and we ended up going in for a second round of food. The best ones were the fried chicken and beef shortrib which had been marinaded for 11 hours. The only item we personally did not like as much as expected was the negroni which came in a pre-mixed mini bottle from the freezer, having drunk several of the best freshly made negroni's ever at Pidgin in Hackney we were hoping for the same but the Magpie variation had a different after taste which wasn't as much to our tastes as a normal Negroni.
Still would give the meal 10 out of 10 and defo come back again.

The food was tasty but not mind blowing and the dishes were very small for the price. We went for a special occasion and left feeling like we could have had more fun (and more food) elsewhere. Very attractive set up and very attentive staff but it feels like the focus of this restaurant is profit as opposed to customer experience. In a city where there is so much to eat we are unlikely to be back.

Surely my highlight of the year 2017. Innovative cooking with quality products and yet not pretentious. Very attentive and professional service with a team eager to listen to their customers as much as they love to share their knowledge. The place is exactly what 'selling memories' is all about and look forward to come back.

Interesting combination of ingredients, some dishes with a better result than others.
Attentive waiters and free glass of wine fro the inconvenience of moving table.
a bit too noisy.

The food is good with interesting flavour combinations that almost make it into great... just a touch more seasoning please. The plates are small, beautifully presented but do leave one wanting more.... that's a good thing by the way. The service is very, very good... well trained and knowledgeable staff... though I do wonder how they'd cope with a really busy service. I love the open kitchen and that you can see the food being prepared. There's a couple of dishes that I'm definitely going to copy. Wine list is small, a little pricey but very well thought out. I recommend the coal-roasted beetroot, seaweed curd and furikake; short rib, red cabbage and fried gnocchi... went very well with the Riesling on tap.
