Maizano
Nestled in the heart of Costa Mesa, Maizano offers traditional Mexican cuisine paying tribute to Mexican gastronomy through our main ingredient: corn masa.

The word Maizano comes from a combination of the two most important pillars of the restaurant:
• Maiz
• Paisano

Maizano boasts a menu that celebrates the diverse culinary heritage of Mexico. Diners can savor exquisite dishes like Mole Poblano, Pipián verde, snacks made from masa like Panuchos, and perfectly grilled carne asada. The extensive tequila and mezcal selection complements the cuisine, offering an array of handcrafted cocktails.

The elegant interior is adorned with hand-painted murals and Mexican “artesanias” creating an ambiance that’s both inviting and luxurious. Maizano offers indoor dinning and a terrace service.

Went with some out of town friends and booked a reservation for the chef’s tasting menu with non-alcoholic pairings. The ambience and service were great! The dishes were well explained and the pacing of the courses was well-timed. I wish there was more of a storyline/background on Chef that connected the dishes to each other. There was a little bit of it in the beginning of the experience, but less so in the end. Our favorite dish was the kingfish aguachile- beautiful presentation and flavors were harmonious. We also loved the branzino taco, but thought the sauce on the side overpowered the fish. Unfortunately, our dry aged steak course was a miss for everyone at the table. The cook on the meat was too rare and we felt like the other components on the dish were too bland or too sweet. Loved the dessert course at the end. The acorn jelly texture didn’t work with my palate, but the popcorn was so fun and loved the salty and sweet pairing. Overall, it was a fun experience, but we would probably order differently if we were to come back.

Amazing flavors, excellent service. Only very small issue was facing the windows with the sun setting and the space between the blinds allowed for direct sunlight. Hard to sit through!

The chef's tasting menu was excellent. We had wonderful food and service. The live music (guitarist who sang) was a very nice addition to the great atmosphere. This is clearly the best gourmet Mexican food in Orange County.

The food was amazing, from the crudo to the carne asada to the blue corn bread dessert. The service was fantastic. We had a great interaction with the executive chef. They also had live music and the performer was great. Can’t wait to go back.

This is one of my new top restaurants in all of OC! Delicious and tasty were every single plate we had! We tasted the aguachile appetizer plus the ceviche appetizer and it was unforgettable! The main dishes like Lobster Enchiladas and the Octopus dish were out of this world good! Service was impeccable and everyone was super nice and accommodating! Can’t recommend it enough! Best Mexican restaurant in OC!

Originally we were set at a table at 6:45pm where the sun was blinding us and told the sun would eventually go down. There were 2 other tables available. After requesting a move they accommodated the 4 of us. Our waitress was very nice, replaced my first drink, which sounded nice, but was horrible tasting. Drinks are around $18 for only about 2 ounces poured over much ice. Way over priced for such a tiny amount of liquor. I drank water for the rest of the meal. Our grilled octopus appetizer was horrible, the ground up pieces of octopus were buried under a delicious cream sauce that had ground up large chunks of something that I could not eat because they were like concrete. This was on a small torta, which was just like a roll. For entrees, we had two carne asada, one lobster enchilada, and a pork shank. My lobster enchiladas had tiny bits of lobster rolled up in corn tortillas and I really could not taste the lobster, much like the octopus appetizer. Then the waitress threw away part of the meat we were taking home and offered a new entree. We opted for a dessert instead. She bought out a frozen chocolate chip cookie sandwich with vanilla ice cream in middle. We could not cut it up and she also tried to saw it with a knife for about 5 minutes. Eventually some chunks fell off. The music was obnoxiously loud that we could not hear our dinner guests at even a small round table$320 later, we left, never to return.
