Makars Gourmet Mash Bar (Mound)
If you've never been to a Mash Bar before, it's not exactly a bar or a restaurant, but a combination of the two with an uniquely warm and friendly atmosphere. Look at our reviews they say it all!
First time in Edinburgh and stopped here once we arrived. Made a reservation beforehand after seeing incredible reviews - it did not disappoint! Went on a weekday so it wasn’t very busy/loud, service was very attentive and food was incredible! So delicious as well as accommodating in terms of food preferences. Will definitely recommend to anyone coming to visit!
Great place to stop for lunch whilst exploring Edinburgh. We had reserved a table and could hear walk ins be told there was a 45 minute wait so Deffo worth pre booking.
Food was delicious and well priced. Definitely recommend.
Food was lovely our server David was fab and made us feel welcome and had great knowledge about the menu he also was great with our kids and made us laugh
Our group of 3 had the chicken, the lamb and the haggis with cheese mash, bacon mash and black pudding mash. The mains were absolutely delicious and mash was yummy other than the black pudding which was a bit disappointing as it was just lumps of black pudding in the mash. Smaller pieces would have been better appreciated. Service was quick and with a smile and a joke. The sticky toffee pudding was very nice but more butterscotch sauce would have made it perfect. The ice cream and baileys dessert was thoroughly enjoyed!
Had a great (very hearty!) lunch here and can’t fault it
Great spot for indulging in traditional Scottish cuisine, especially for those who have never tried it.
Wunderfull experience from The start to The end.
Great food and Great service
Absolutely delicious haggis (both the meat and the veggie version) and a range of different mash to choose from (all of which sounded fab). Super friendly staff who couldn’t have been more attentive and helpful.
Great restaurant with great traditional Scottish Food. Pity that the restaurant is moving towards vegetarian. Nothing could further from traditional Scottish. Have no idea how they are going to make vegetarian Black pudding!
Please stick to what your restaurant does brilliantly
Food was really good. Especially the dessert „Sour cherry cake with white chocolate ice cream“
YUUUUUUM YUUUUUUM YUM.... ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS, WOULD 100% RECOMMEND
Loved it. Food tasty
great non alcoholic range of drinks
Service efficient and friendly
Wish we lived here as would go every week
Great meal. The Scotch eggs with rosti were tasty - we thought it was funny that they were listed as “lighter fare!” Friendly helpful staff.
Great quality food at reasonable prices, service was excellent.
A wonderful place for a hearty meal. We visited twice on a three day stay as it was so good. The staff are so happy, helpful and a joy to chat to . David was very helpful on information on the area . The scotch eggs are incredible no other scotch egg will ever compare
It is very busy so you might need to wait for a table but we’ll worth it
What a fantastic place! The food is absolutely delicious. I booked a table in advance as I had heard this was a great place to eat. You won't be disappointed. I had the gammon and cheese and chive mash. Amazing. The service was spot on and would recommend this place to eat 100%. The puddings looked delicious too, but there just wasn't room for any more food!
Booked during our very short visit to Edinburgh. The place was busy on a Tuesday lunchtime. Plenty to choose from on the menu with reasonable servings. Service was very good and friendly.
The food was absolutely amazing and for vegetarians the options are also great. Would strongly recommend if you have the chance while in Edinburgh!
Loved the service, the food, could improve the choice of drinks (cocktails). Quality food, makes you love scot food, when elsewhere it’s mostly acceptable.
Maintained its reputation as one of the top eateries in Edinburgh! We were not disappointed. Great service, friendly efficient staff and excellent food. Would definitely visit again.
Makars Mash is a great casual dining option in Edinburgh. Nice central location, good service, good atmospher and great food! Great for families with kids.
First visit here and very impressed . Had the lamb shank and black pudding mash .fabulous flavours and good sized portion. Wasn't going to have dessert as full however having tasted my partners coffee panacota shared one with a friend -truly amazing! Will definately return here on my next visit to Edinburgh😀
Authentic Scottish food with a modern style. Flavors were excellent - both for meat eaters and vegetarians. Good value for Edinburgh.
Fab place! Absolutely delicious home cooking / comfort food! Brilliant atmosphere. Really friendly & funny staff. We loved it so much we went back the next day for lunch! :-)
Food was fantastic well priced and great service!
We will be back on our next visit to Edinburgh!
The welcome was welcome, the drinks great and food tasty and comforting. If you want light and low cal buy a carrot.
our daughter's wheelchair was no problem for the staff.
We would happily return
I thought i should introduce my family to the scottish hahgis experience, and i knew Makars would be the best place to do that! My family and I loved our meal and Sasha gave us amazing service!
Best haggis in town✨
Proof that the words Scottish, food and fantastic can all exist in the same sentence.
Amazing food, it was so tasty. I had the veggie haggis with original mash and it was so nice.
Be sure to check Makars if you’re in Edinburgh! Had a lovely lunch with my family and loved the aubergine - great vegetarian options and an excellent service. Been dreaming about eating their aubergine again but unfortunately I’m on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean...
Super nice staff and very accommodating. A must if your in Edinburgh you won’t be able to beat these neeps and tatties.
food was great, duck confit and lamb shank..only thing was the waitress never ever asked us how the food was..it was served and that was the last contact until we asked for the bill...it was very busy however
Our waiter was the best. He came over and asked us how the food tasted and made sure we had a great time. He was funny and polite. The food was great. We had lamb with mashed potatoes. We would come here
Been a few times before and never had any complaints. This time I took my baby boy and they were exceptional at making sure we had enough room and a high chair etc. Fab location and fab food. Can’t recommend highly enough. Would eat here every time I came to Edinburgh
Everything was great from start to finish. The scotch egg was, however, a huge disappointment. Stick with the mash and other meat, and it will be a great meal!
One of the best restaurants I’ve been. The food is absolutely fantastic, we had the haggis, the sausage and lamb. All great! Also the chive and bacon mash is perfection on a plate! Every time I come to Edinburgh, I have to go there. Ambiance is great and staff is super nice. Favorite place in the UK for sure <3
A must visit place for the best Scottish locally sourced meal in Edinburgh
Amazing food and great service. Highly recommend.
The food was absolutely amazing and our waiter David was super nice. We enjoyed the food and the relaxed atmosphere.
Amazing!! Would highly recommend. Come on an empty stomach because it’s a lot of delicious food.
Makar’s was amazing. Probably our favorite meal from Edinburgh. Great vegetarian options that aren’t just side dishes. Would definitely recommend but book ahead!
