Delicious food, friendly service, nice decorations and ambiance. Waitresses really worked while we were there and still had time to ask how we were doing and how the food tasted. If I was living in Edinburgh I'd come there at least once a week

We had three lovely and tentative waitresses look after us during our visit and this was complimented by the glorious food that was served! Hearty, filling and delicious would continually recommend this place to visit!

Fantastic experience and food. We started our holiday here and it was a great choice. Great service (Sophie & Andriana) and hearty, well prepared food. The mash is as legendary as we’d heard and our choice of beef skirt and boar sausages were plentiful and excellent. Call out for the delicious Scottish tablet ice cream too. It was great value. Our one regret - not having enough time to visit again, thanks for a great start to our holiday.

Really loved it here- the choices were fab and that you could mix and match only enhanced that. The food was so good, and we all chose different things and cleared our plates. We were slow choosing as could t decide but we never harried by the staff, who were attentive and friendly and patient. Drfinitely recommend and will definitely go back!

Good wholesome food (I had the braised beef skirt in a delicious rich gravy, plenty of gravy, with a cheesy mash). Would highly recommend that. The potato skins I had beforehand were disappointing as they weren’t crispy at all and the potato side of the skin was a very dark colour as though they had been about for a while. I chose these as they had been recommended so maybe it was a bad day to choose them; no excuse though. On the whole a good meal and reasonable value for money. Would go again

Enjoyed the relaxed style of this restaurant. Extremely welcoming and cheerful staff, very attentive without being in your face. Ate lunch with my son who was on a flying visit from Denmark and wanted some traditional British food, the mash certainly did it but also some unusual choices on the menu. The wild boar sausages were delicious. Booked to come again in a couple of weeks for a celebration. Only criticism was that every time the door opened ( which was often as it was busy) we were hit with the freezing cold air which made it uncomfortable. However, to be fair it was a particularly cold day and the staff could not do much about it. I would just suggest choosing to sit away from the door.

Staff were friendly, polite and extremely helpful. The menu was just right with options and the food was amazing. It was probably one of the best meals we had during our stay in Edinburgh. We will definitely be returning on our next trip

Great concept to be majoring on the humble potato as your ups!
Good choice of food and it was fantastic (as an Englishman) to celebrate Burns Night eating tasty haggis, neeps and tatties in a fab place with great staff and a lively atmosphere where everyone appeared to be enjoying the menu, the ambiance and the atmosphere.

It was a very nice surprise! Restaurant doesn’t look very elegant but food was quite amazing. I especially recommend a lamb leg.

In one word - exquisite. Our first visit here and it was without question, the best dining experience we can remember. The food was INCREDIBLE, the service was faultless and the ambience was superb. Our waitress was so attentive - everything timed to perfection.

We were visiting Edinburgh for the day and only wish Makars were in our home city. The lucky folk of Edinburgh!

Food was good services not so much we were a party of 4 2 arrived first then 2 5minutes later didbt get asked for drinks order until we gave our food order 15 20mins in.. didn't ask if we wanted more drinks and staff were through the back at the end so waited a bit for the bill even after we were asked if we wanted anything else to which we replied no thanks but no bill appeared

Great comfort food with friendly attentive service. Prices are moderate with £13-£15 for a main. A local independent delight that I'd visit every time I'm in Edinburgh.

Didn’t actually try the mash but had the roast potato skins and they were amazing - not what you’d expect. Would recommend and if wasn’t so full I’d be going back immediately.

The staff were very helpful changing our booking to an earlier slot, we enjoyed the service and the food. We would have preferred my food to be a little warmer and the mash to be the star of the show, however it was the topping that was excellent and the mash didn't stand out, also I think it would be great to recommend the type of mash to suit the main dish as you would a wine. But we loved it and would visit again.

Really helpful and friendly staff. Loved the main courses but was a bit disappointed in the starter. Some of the potato skins were a bit al dente. But couldn’t fault the beef skirt - so tender! And my horseradish mash went perfectly! Would definitely visit again !

A restaurant that did not serve chips. Yippeeeeee. Being serious though that in itself makes a pleasant change but with the absence of deep fried potatoes, the food was excellent and that bit different from the norm. It is amazing what you can do without deep frying a potato chip and Makers demonstrates that. I had a burger, which was served without a bun but with Rosti. Not sure if or how much healthier but it was certainly tastier. The service was great and on top of that the meal for a family of 4, which included two very hungry but grown up kids was extremely affordable and represented great value for money

Fantastic little venue, very accommodating, attentive staff but not over the top. A really warm place. Will come again if ever in Edinburgh.

I have been in this restaurant before so I knew it was great, the food is amazing.
Very nice location, very good value and the menue is 'different' as in some great choices and the flavours are awesome.
The staff are really nice and all in all I would thoroughly reccomend it.

Had a lovely lunch here with a friend. Food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

6 of us had lunch, all of us thought it great. 2 had been before and actually recommended it.
The service was excellent, we had an Australian girl, I can't remember her name she was really good at helping us with the menu. Would definitely come again.
