Delicious food, in particular the mash was lovely !! Sasha ( the waitress) was really nice and kind. Really recommended!
Very tasty food and overall excellent experience!
Great food, the best sausage and mash you could wish for. Friendly attentive service. Recommended
We visited Makars for the first time and the food was lovely with some of the best food we have ever had.
Great place to eat. If you're in Edinburgh make sure you go.
Friendly staff, really tasty food! Happy with the service
Service, food, value for money and staff were all fantastic. My 2nd visit and it was even better than I remember. Can't wait to go back!!!!
You need to try the smoked sausage with black pudding mash!!
Absolutely fabulous food and service would highly recommend this place
Took out of town friends here for dinner - said it was best meal they’d had in Edinburgh
My only complaint was that I thought the gammon was a bit tough, but the other meals were great and my dessert was lovely. I will be back to try something else.
No wonder they’ve won awards.
Don’t hesitate to book.
Fantastic. That is all
The cream potato soup was divine. All the mains and mash accompaniments were delicious. We felt well looked after by the hosts and really enjoyed the dinner overall.
We booked for lunch time, the service was great with really friendly staff, we had a starter of scotch egg which was the best thing I've ever tasted. Mains were beef, it just broke apart, it was incredible. Not really one for desert but had sour cherry fruit cake with ice cream...wow. The whole thing was amazing.
What a beautiful meal, great value for money, fresh ingredients, wonderful atmosphere and friendly staff. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Edinburgh!
We were recommended Makars by multiple people before we arrived in Edinburgh and we weren’t disappointed! Food is fantastic, staff were great and veggie options amazing. Will be passing on the recommendation to others too!
Came to Edinburgh for my mothers birthday weekend and found this wonderful mash bar online. Now I'm a mash enthusiast and was highly delighted with my meal & so were my family. The beef shoulder with the horradish gravy was devine. Not too punchy but a lovely flavour. My partner had the haggis, we'd never tried it before and it was delicious. 10/10 food drinks and service. Highly recommended. Peace out - Zoe from MK
Fabulous food, great service in a buzzy atmosphere, I can highly recommend, we will return
We’ve been to Edinburgh twice in the last 12 months and both times we went to Makars. Do I need to say more?
Great service, great waitresses Callie and Kirstie served us and were so friendly and great the whole time. Will definitely go back again
Good location, really yummy food, generous portions. I unfortunately couldn't fit in pudding :(
Friendly staff in a grumpy Scottish way
Modern but Scottish Food in a Trendy Place.
Really near both the Old and "Modern" Town.
Very friendly service.
A must Stop Place near the Castle.
(there is a shortcut, don't miss the stairs)
Great food, great service, good value for money, well worth a visit
Food delicious, service excellent, couldn’t ask for more.
Canteen style experience, were given bench seats and table, ok but not good for comfort. Noisy as lots of people in small space. Staff friendly enough, but very busy. Very much designed for fast turnover, which surprised me as a little pricy. Having said all that, food was tasty, portions fair size.
My party was slightly early on arriving makars had our table ready and was able to seat us directly giving us more time to go over menu and order drinks. Their was an extensive choice and we ordered a variety of food. One of my party ordered a dish that contained an ingredient that she couldn’t eat as she did Not read the menu properly, however this was easily amended as it was no problem to order an alternative. The staff were more interested that we all enjoyed our dining experience and could not have been more helpful. Food amazing as always.
The food is delicious and the waitress are so nice. I will come again.
Mixed age clientele (we are 70) leaning towards younger, and all a very nice crowd. North Bank St is a continuation of The Mound, so if you are visiting The Scottish National Gallery or are in that area of Princes Street, you just carry on up the hill for a few mins and there it is on your right. Busy, bustling yet not overpoweringly so, with friendly staff who were helpful and smiling. We both chose the scotch egg and rosti with coleslaw and leaves, which was very fresh and good. The service was excellent. Thank you, Emily.
Amazing food and service, our waiter was great, very friendly and knowledgeable
Very busy little restaurant, so glad we found this place and will be worth a visit back to Edinburgh just to come back !
Delightful, really enjoyed a hearty lunch in a popular restaurant with commanding views, hope to return
Great food great staff lovely place to eat !!
Food delicious and so fresh. Staff were lovely and very attentive. Will definitely return and would recommend.
Great little place.
Food was delicious. Service was spot on.
Tables were a little close together so we were almost forced to engage in conversation with people next to us, but if you don’t mind this sort of ambience, then it’s a good spot for some meaty goodness and delicious mash!
