Malibu Kitchen at The Ned
Overpriced and unnecessarily complicated to find each 'restaurant'.
This was the second time I’ve been to the Ned and the Malibu Kitchen and it was just as good if not better than the first. The food is simple but delicious and the atmosphere brilliant. I have always arrived relatively early and by the time I leave there was a real buzz. I like the Malibu as it’s tucked away into the corner so it has a cosy feeling but you can hear the bars and music in the background. Really recommend it as a relaxing place to spend some time.
Great. Lovely food in a wonderful space. A super experience.
The food was good, but nothing special. I also requested a candle in my dessert as it was my birthday but this did not come. We were sat squeezed onto a long table up close to the people next to us with the kitchen the other side.
We had a lovely lunch at the restaurant, the food was good, the service was good and they even surprised us at the end by bringing us some cake at the end for my husbands 30th birthday, a lovely touch! The only thing that has prevented me from giving this 5 stars is that we were sat at the long table in the middle of the restaurant on a stool. I am 32 weeks pregnant so was pretty uncomfy the whole way through, however when booking I didn't see any reference to the booths that you could book instead. If this could be an option to choose at the point of booking it would be really helpful.
Food was delicious, lighting a little bit too low, also the discretionary service charge and extra taxes on top is a bit steep I think we should be able to make that decision ourselves as patrons.
Below average food for the price .. we all ordered very different dishes and they were very bland
Very disappointing especially as it was for a birthday
The food was fresh and flavorful.
Took my wife and family for lunch to celebrate a birthday.
The restaurant is one of several in a large open-plan area within the former Midland Bank - a beautiful building in The City of London (opposite Banks station).
The restaurant is cramped - it’s fairly noisy and is definitely not a restaurant I’d recommend for a romantic dinner but it’s the place itself which is stunning.
The staff are welcoming and helpful - the food good but relatively small portions and certainly not cheap.
A special building, interesting fully restored bank vaults in the basement - definitely worth a look.
WC’s were very smelly which was very disappointing considering this high profile venue.
Overall, not bad but would not put this at the top of my choice of venue to return to.
Amazing and cosy environment.
Not for a quite and relaxing night. Live music.
Went for a birthday dinner; great food, service and amazing setting. Will definitely go back.
Malibu Kitchen in The Ned Hotel offers a tasty interpretation of Californian cuisine in a nicely decorated albeit very very cramped little restaurant. Food was very good and innovative, staff highly attentive and very well trained. Massive drawback of the Malibu Kitchen is its location in the huge, high-ceiling Tolkienesque "dwarf hall" lobby of the hotel which houses no less than ten (!) restaurants, not separated by any walls. With this hip place drawing a massive amount of interest from visitors the noise-level ranges from thundering to plainly deafening. One must really like to eat as if trapped at a table during what could be called an "all-year-Octoberfest". It is modern, it is hip, it certainly is mostly fully booked, but it is sadly no place for a romantic dinner of a quite lunch or dinner.
Service was a bit cold and unfriendly. Food was good but tacos weren’t particularly well filled for the price. There was a bad smell coming from the side wall - I think from the drains outside. Chocolate cake was great.
Nestled in the corner of the Ned, lovely venue, good breakfast and good service. Typical price for a sit down breakfast in London (so not the cheapest).
Excellent healthy food! And the vibe is really cool, we had a lovely spot to sit as well. Cocktails are quite small though and on the pricey side but still delicious :)
Been a few times before but know I can rely on MK for healthy food (if you want it), that looks good, with a decent portion size and a buzzy but not annoyingly busy vibe. Only annoying bit is that sometimes it's shared tables...but they will try and move you, if it's possible.
Fantastic place. Very tasty food, with a trendy yet elaborated menu. In a very elegant setting inside a gorgeous building.
Slightly slow, inattentive service, and enormous- really enormous - portions. But otherwise excellent.
I dined here with a friend for her birthday. We sat on a long communal bar table but it wasn't too busy so we had plenty of space. The food was better than expected, mostly seafood and vegies, smallish portions for the price but tasty and came out at good times. Service was fairly average but nothing bad, just not very friendly.
It was a great experience - took my mum for her birthday and we had a couple of drinks before in the lovely main bar where there was a live band.
Honestly, the best food I have ever eaten, honestly
Very good food, nice atmosphere and fair service (usually it is better than this, but during the last visit the waiters were not smiley and we; 5 people; were squeezed on a table for 4).
Bad service. Variety of food very poor and the quality not as expected. The place where we had dinner was hidden from the rest of the party area and the chairs were very uncomfortable.
Delicious food, friendly staff, great atmosphere and great value for money.
It was a nice lunchtime treat. Good place to meet up with daughter or friends.
Overpriced for what it offers. Service was poor and it took forever to get our orders. Good cocktails.
Food was definitely on theme, but NED location was all embracing.
Relatively quiet part of the arena, which was a plus.
Chose the 2 course special. Service was so quick we thought we'd better leave pretty sharpish
Overall experience was amazing and will definitely visit again but staff were too slow to take orders!!
Delicious fresh food, great atmosphere, staff were excellent. Will come again!
Went on Thursday early evening. The Ned was very busy and noisy. Felt more like a railway station than a smart hotel. Malibu Kitchen was in a location away from the main noise thankfully. Food was ok - simple and small portions. Waiter was very good.
It is all really great apart from the beetroot thing which the menu makes sound like some amazing thing but then it is literally just a plate if boiled beetroot with some stuff on the side and it's like 12 quid? But all the other food was amazing and what was great was that when the bill arrived the sweet potato fries were a pound cheaper than they were on the menu so u win some u lose some. It's nice, I would go again
A really disappointing experience as I had been looking forward to the evening. We were given a table which we had to share with strangers. Limited set menu and attitude from the member of staff. Consequently we walked out.
The staff were unpleasant and not very attentive. For the price you're paying, I'd expect better service.
Pretty average. The Sea Bream was overcoooked, everything else fine but nothing special.
Food was excellent and service was very friendly. Luckily it wasn’t too busy when we dined and will definitely come back next time.
Food is fine. Environment in NED super. But service is normal not impressive at all.
Don't know whether or not I missed the memo but all the food was raw - this didn't deter and it was all lovely. Possibly wouldn't be in a rush to go back but loved the decor and found the atmosphere very intimate and lovely.
Food was lovely - will return at some point!
Malibu Kitchen has a fantastic vibe in a wonderful setting. The food was ok, pretty bland and nothing special which was a real shame, especially for the price.
Very good experience again. Food is high quality, fusion Japanese, with raw salads and vegetables. Modern, tasty and good. Fit out of the space also good and works well for a casual business lunch or meeting a friend.
