Pronounced ‘mum’ and referring to the art of fermentation, the menu focuses on skewered meat cooked on a robata grill. The skewers predominantly feature cuts of chicken, but the kitchen also showcases weekly specials such as rare-breed beef and seafood. Served sharing style with rice noodle parcels, chopped veg, colourful pickles, an abundance of fresh Vietnamese herbs, lettuce leaves and rice paper wrappers, diners are encouraged to choose their own way of eating them.
The light, airy 40-cover restaurant, divided between a bar area at the front and dining room conservatory at the back, also offers a refined cocktail menu.
Sat - Sun: 12:00pm - 5:00pm and 6:00pm - 11:00pm
Food is insane. So many great flavours! It was definitely worth the 2 hour journey from Hertfordshire. My partner and I have not stopped talking about how good it was x
The beef in betal leaves came almost burned, which is not supposed to be like this if it were cooked properly. The pork shoulder was very strongly flavoured and overcooked (also burned, see photo), the texture became tough and the moisture all gone. Also, the "King" prawns were in every sense of the word a cheat as the small sizes suggest these are "Tiger" prawns or anything but Kings; they were well prepared though. Two other starter dishes (chicken wings and wontons) we had were good and proper, but all in all the food came just overly flavoured which is not quite what I've extensively experienced as regards authentic Vietnamese cuisines. There's room for improvement.
very poor service when we returned a salad twice for tasting distinctly off.. real shame as everything else was great - and we prefaced our comments with that - was with a highly trained professional celeb chef - just didn't matter- really bad attitude from 2 servers. I like this neighbourhood joint but am unsure if i will return after this experience
Amazing food, great staff and lovely setting. Will be back again!
Very good experience. Very good value for money. Delicious vietnamese cuisine
Really cool decor, great food, great value. Had the banh xeo (crispy crepe) and it was amazing. Vietnamese coffee was really nice, too. Also had the shrimp pho, also really good.
Fab as always! Come here all the time and it’s always a pleasure. Great food and great atmosphere. Shame no dumplings on menu though-they are my favourite!!
No one greeted us when we walked in. Food took 40 minutes to arrive - starter and main at same time!! However food was fresh and delicious and reasonably priced.
It was my 1st time at MAM .The food was delicious ,service attentive and all round a lovely atmosphere .Very good value for money and varied menu .I am gluten free and lots of options .I am going back very soon .
Sad overall attitude service and food....
Was expecting so much more given the previous reviews....
Wonderful- as always! Can't stay away since we discovered it. Best Prawn Pho soup in West London, and a serious contender for the entire city! Magical cocktails and fabulous staff too.
Loved the food and the staff were excellent
Can’t wait to return. Will be doing so soon
It's a great addition to the area of London where diversity in culinary choices is limited. The food is fresh and flavourful, the portion is very good, the service is efficient and friendly, and the price is very reasonable. The atmosphere is warm and lovely, and I also hear that it's dog friendly (even though I haven't confirmed this). Can this restaurant be better? I do not think it's possible. Absolutely a must-go.
Food was incredible! However we ordered starters which didn't end up arriving until 20 minutes into our mains. We also didn't receive one of the starters at all.
Staff were really friendly and offered us a free drink to apologise. Would definitely still recommend though - menu included great selections and tasted fantastic.
The food was really good but the service was not. They started cleaning and clearing everything at 10:20. We knew that the restaurant closed at 11 and we would pay 10 minutes before and go, which is what we did. But they made every effort to make us feel unwelcome and one of the waitresses came and declared “10 minutes” in a very rude way. They were giving us weird looks and even mouthed “20 minutes” to us. Completely ridiculous. Never going back. They were all sitting and looking at us to get up and leave. They couldn’t be polite about it and say sorry guys we close in 10 minutes.
We were seated and waited 50 min for our food to arrive. When it did it was cold and the waitress was very rude about it telling us that they are busy as if we were being unreasonable. We got up and left.
Loved the bbq meats wrapped in lettuce. Big helping of delicious, healthy food at a reasonable price!
Despite us having a reservation, they refused to give us a table. They probably did not want to pay the fee to open table!
Great food, brilliant service and really nice atmosphere
Great restaurant - It is as good as anything we have come across in Vietnam. Big selection of excellent food freshly cooked and perfectly served. The staff are lovely the ambiance informal cosy and rustic chic. Perfect for all occasions. Although they do a great takeaway delivery It’s well worth a visit to the restaurant because there are a lot of things that they don’t do for takeaway. We have visited many times and it’s consistently excellent food. Can’t praise it more highly!
Perfect if you are gluten and dairy free because there are so many dishes you can have . Extremely reasonable prices considering everything.
Great food, great service, just off Portabello! Loved the chicken wings in fish sauce, kebabs and papaya salad.
Great ambience with a delicate cuisine tasty and heathly.
Service was great and the wine and cocktails were also of good quality
Good atmosphere, lovely food and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend to a friend.
The food here is delicious. They specialise in bbq style meat so that was delicious. The service let it down though. We booked and the only thing we were greeted with when we said hello was “your table isn’t ready, come back in 15 mins” no apologies, no offer of a drink while waiting etc. Grumpiness continued with other staff members too. Waited almost half an hour for a drink and then we were finally told the beers weren’t cold due to a late ice delivery. Fair enough but why not just say that upfront and offer a different drink? 1 staff member was delightful and was the best antidote to the general misery of the others! Overall food is great but they would have to be infinitely better in their service for me to go there again. I live 5 mins walk away too so it’s a shame!
Great good but not the fastest service. Forgot to put through a dish through the till which led to a 40 min wait for a second round of dish.
Superb food and great staff service.
Only complaint, which consistently seems to happen, is they bring out the main dish when you haven't even finished an earlier course. So annoying, but overall food and service make up for it.
Really delicious food and a super cute space. The staff were very friendly as well and everything came quickly. I do usually pay less for vietnamese food so you can get a similar thing elsewhere for cheaper but this little nook has the complete package so makes the price worth it, as long as it doesn’t go up in the future!
Authentic Vietnamese food which is amazingly tasty and super reasonable. Our favourite local. Potentially the best Vietnamese in London.
Food is delicious. Good quantity. Love this restaurant.
Starter were really good but main courses could be a bit more tasty. The ambiance was really great and we could hear each other.
It is a beautiful venue! Given the location and the decor (it could be straight out of AD magazine), the prices are actually democratic. They do phos, skewers and rice bowls (all served with an abundance of fresh herbs and leaves) and encourage sharing. The cocktails' focus actually reminded me of the famous Nam Long Le Shaker in West London.
But the service was so off, it actually became funny. They went wrong pretty much every step along the way. None of the waiting staff around seemed to know the menu so they kept calling on each other for help. I’ve ordered a cocktail and they forgot to place the order at the bar. The food then took ages to arrive despite this being a quiet Monday night. It then took ages to pay and the card reader ran out of paper and then the waiter struggled to replace the roll.
But the food was good and the portions were generous and the staff are friendly and all smiles and were very apologetic about the mishaps. So I really hope the restaurant finds its bearing and I will be back after some time goes by to check!
Very good addition to the not very long list of good Vietnamese restaurants in London. Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere.
Wonderful! Third time we've eaten here and never been disappointed. Just terrific!!!
Great local restaurant
Good food good value
really nice atmosphere
Food was mostly good but we were rushed to leave even though there were plenty of tables available!
Second time here in as many weeks MAM shines with simple uncomplicated food, friendly fun staff and good cocktails. This is a true Neighbourhood gem.
The ambience is clean, a well managed mix of design and ethnic flavour. The result is a welcoming, relaxing small restaurant.
The food is very tasty, good portions and yet healthy. In terms of price-quality it is a win.
Recommended. Worth trying.
Good autentic food, good wine list, nice light and positive atmosphere
I was very disappointed with my experience at Mam on Friday.
The food was good but let down by poor service and rude staff.
When I arrived I was greeted by a very friendly face. She showed me to my table which was laid for 5 people although I had booked for 6. We were missing a bowl and cutlery. I was offered water which came rapidly and then ordered a cocktail once I caught the eye of another waitress. My friends arrived and were each shown to the table. After catching the eye of another waitress they were able to order drinks. We then ordered a platter to share and waited to order main while waiting for a friend who was running late.
When ready to order mains 4 of us ordered and the waitress walked away before taking everyone's order. In this time a friend had to ask a second time for the beer he had ordered and another for the diet coke he had ordered. Our table was still full of our dirty plates from starter and empty glasses.
Mains arrived. Well 5 of them. Mine didn't. I waited 5 minutes before asking and when I asked I was told it was coming. 5 minutes later after being avoided by the waitress I managed to ask again where my dinner was and was told 'we have run out of rice, do you want anything else on the menu'. I thought my meal was on its way? When my meal still didn't arrive I questioned again and was told I hadn't ordered it. Why would I not have ordered it? She showed me a bill and it wasn't on there. Not my fault. I ordered it. Another 5 minutes and my dinner appears, with rice. The apology was weak and I even caught a waitress discussing my complaint with a colleague and not in a positive way. I have done nothing wrong other than pick this restaurant.
The waitress comes to apologise again and advises she will take the beef rib off the bill. The bill comes. We've now been in the restaurant over 3 hours! Beef rib is on the Bill. How is this so if I didn't order it?
Loved it. Food was delicious and could of gone back next day again for more! We will definitely be back.
