This somewhat hidden Italian gem buzzes Monday to Friday from the moment it opens at 7am with nearby workers on the coffee run and business breakfasters. Lunch service from 12pm is lively and Manicomio's spectacular take away counter has proven to be as alluring as the ground floor café itself, and also the two floors of a la cate dining above.
Come the afternoon, the ground floor café draws a crowd from early evening drinkers, gradually transforming into an atmospheric candlelit cocktail bar offering aperatifs and snacks before the kitchen starts its dinner service.
Manicomio City’s exceptional menu, combined with city views, have made for great TV fodder- having achieved several screen appearances on Celebrity Masterchef and Chanel 4’s Dates.
My colleague ordered eggs to go with her breakfast and they didn’t arrive with the food and whilst the waiting staff tried to rectify this they didn’t arrive until we had eaten.
The bill was incorrect and had to highlight this to member of staff.
Very good for business lunch
Excellent night out. Delicious food, fantastic service and impressive ambience
Excellent lunch menu and attentive service.
Great place for business breakfast meeting
Some dishes are very delicious (truffle carbonara) but it is way too expensive, unfortunately. OpenTable's 2 course dinner promotion at 24.50 was fantastic but their wine prices are around 10-12/glass. Ordering 2 course promotion menu x 2 (mozzarella antipasto x 1, fish dish x 1, beef dish x 1, dolce x 1), an extra pasta dish, 5 glasses of wine and the service charge, our total in two persons became 190. It is way better going to Dinner by Heston with the same budget.
What’s Manicomio’s justification for a table charge per diner, plus a 12.5% service charge, for largely mediocre service in an overpriced restaurant? None, I’d suggest.
The young male waiter was disinterested/ not engaged. Other serving staff were good.
Been to Manicomio a few times recently. The food has always been very good, but sadly the service on my last visit was not up to the usual standard.
The floor manager rather oddly loudly berated his staff for relaying my request to move tables due to the glare coming through the windows. The same manager also told me that he would not adjust the blinds as a compromise solution. He then spent the rest of the service stomping around the floor. Everyone has their off days, but still...
Lovely place, great food and good service. Highly recommended
Food was overall very tasty
Staff very friendly
Very slow service
One of the staff took away a bottle of water before it was empty!
Pasta was like warm (as opposed to the other meals which were piping hot)
I am not in a rush to return anytime soon
Great food, good location tucked away but easy to get to. Waiter had to be reminded about our coffees but that was only blip in an otherwise fantastic lunch.
Decided not to go for the set menu as didn't look as good as the one on the website. Had to ask for that menu anyway,as wasn't offered as well as the a la carte. Went a la carte;enjoyable evening but at £164 for shared platter starter,2 mains far from the pricey end of the menu, a bottle of Valpolicella plus 2 extra glasses of the same,VFM it was not. £5 cover charge: for what?! I thought cover charges had died with the'90's! Service very friendly , sommelier a little over keen so gave him a budget. But this is one for the expenses account. I'm far from averse to spending this on a meal, but this isn't the place to spend it.
Haven t been here for 4/5 years and whilst the building is still awesome, the food is now no more than adequate. The Cod special was watery and flaccid, carbonara truffle had no flavour of truffle, just thr price. I guess for a city business venue that will probably be fine but given it used to be rather good thats a shame
Food and service was good, however menu was very over priced for what it is. A cover charge was included in the final bill which we weren't informed about and is not common for restaurants in the city in London. Service charge was calculated on the cover charge and also a contribution to a selected charity which again we were not informed about.
Would not recommend without 50% discount offer.
Overall good but as busy the staff not as attentive as I would have liked
Table for three on a Thursday lunchtime. Lovely restaurant and good menu. However, service was very slow. Side order salad arrived 10 minutes before main courses (no starters were ordered). Ravioli was lovely but lukewarm. Had to ask to pay having asked for the bill.
Amazing place, cozy surroundings, very good food, great value for money. We ate a set menu of pasta, burrata and tiramisu. And also a steak with potatoes from the main menu. Everything was delicious!! I am a really picky eater but this place I really liked! Simple yet tasty!
The food was excellent, but it was a bit overpriced.
Great food and atmosphere. Service made us feel slightly rushed. But would go back.
Fantastic service, food was amazing and the ambience lovely relaxed and chilled
Food was beautifully presented and very tasty. However, service a little bit too much, felt the waiter wasn’t really listening to us, which was annoying. Had to complain about the coffee, it was barely lukewarm. Cover charge plus 12.5% service charge is a total rip-off. Not sure I’d come back.
As usual Manicomio City did not disappoint. I ordered the pear and gorgonzola salad which was packed with flavour followed by the mushroom pasta dish which was delicious.
Exceptional service, food and wine for a private party!!
Impeccable service & dessert was amazing
I will come back
We used the fantastic 50% offer on Friday night but the reason was clear - very overpriced menu otherwise and no ambience or vibe on the weekend nights, we were one of only two tables. I imagine it would be buzzing on a business evening and very popular for business dinners. The food was nice and the service was good.
Food was OK, certainly not worth the extortionate price for what it was.
Ambience was pretty, service OK, some waiters were nice some others less so.
I felt it was a bit of a rip off for the quality of the meal
Service was faultless. Absolutely brilliant.
The location of the restaurant is very convenient for a business dinner. The ambiance is welcoming, relaxed but sophisticated. The seasonal menu means one can enjoy different mains at different times of the year. The food was freshly and purposefully prepared and to a high standard
Nice location, ambience, food, wine and service. Recommended.
Absolutely delicious lunch, thank you! Very suitable for a business lunch, we had plenty space around our table and the noise level was perfect (ambient but not intrusive). I'll definitely be back, thank you!
Outstanding food and service in a great & quiet location. The entire party of 5 thoroughly enjoyed your restaurant. I come here often on business and you just made my list of places I will take clients where I will be confident of a successful business dinner.
It's good but not great value for the price. It's not going to make it to my list of restaurants to take clients to near St Paul's/Bank.
A great quality Italian restaurant in the city. It is a perfect spot for a business lunch or team catch up etc as well. Brasserie and coffee downstairs and proper restaurant upstairs. Food is always authentic and service impeccable. This time we had burrata zuccini flower and king prawn salad - all delicious!
I love the food here and the service is usually good, but a few blips this time.
Not suitable for morning meetings
Terrific food, attentive but not obtrusive staff. A great place for a business lunch
The restaurant is located upstair with good modern decoration. It is not a big restaurant but we dont feel it was over closed to the adjoining table so we feel reasonable comfortable and relax.
The staff is friendly. But we did felt the Manager can do better when greeting us and show us to our table. The food is well cooked and presented. But not special.
Great food - broad bean salad particularly delicious.
Sat on the first floor which was quieter than the ground floor and more formal
Food was great, but they charge a “cover charge” on top of a service fee which is a joke given how expensive a plate of pasta is to begin with. My carbonara was £26.
