The ambience is usual for a restaurant of this quality. Crisp white table cloth, well shined cutlery and glasses. Good level of brightness and airy.
The menu is good, precise, short ish and well explained. Food was no surprise when it arrived.
We felt the service was a little pushy while we were there for a quick bite.
The restaurant is in a lovely setting, and the staff are capable and attentive. However the food was overpriced (£45 for Dover Sole), the restaurant was virtually empty on a Friday lunchtime, and my lamb shoulder lunch special tasted as if it was cooked and keep warm too long. I first went to Wheelers 30 years ago and somehow it feels a little tired. My guests enjoyed their food however, the wine was good and the location excellent.
Loved this place. We came at a quiet time, which meant our server spent extra time with us, which was great (he was friendly, funny, and happy to make us feel welcome). The food was great, and for the area, terrifically priced.
We were given the menu which looked very good but afterwards we were told that due to a gas problem we could only choose from 2 main courses. Neither of which I would have chosen. I ordered a glass of rose before dinner but they opened a whole bottle - as if I was going to drink a bottle of rose before dinner!
Good service and friendly and attentive staff. The set lunch menu is very good value
We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. Had dinner on the Friday night. The Food & wine was good, service was attentive but the place was empty.
Breakfast on the following two mornings were excellent quality ingredients were used & presentation was good. The service was quick & attentive.
Had bar food in the afternoon & it was tasty & good value for money.
What a great place. Attentive service..knowledgeable staff. Food delivered in very food time. Oysters were outstanding. Saw guy on next table with the Prawn Cocktail, looked so good that's what I ordered! Fish Curry for main. Perfect for lunch, well seasoned and flavoursome didn't blow your head off.
Dropped a star on overall value as the wine list is a little on the heavy side (££'s) that's all.t
When taking our order, we asked the waiter if it would be possible to change the chips to the dauphinoise potatoes, in which he confirmed and said no problem. I ordered the ribeye with Grilled oysters with jus à la Parisienne and my partner ordered the ribeye with Sauce au poivre both cooked medium rare in addition we ordered the cabbage and bacon side along with some garlic mushrooms. When the steaks arrived they both arrived with sauce au poivre and buttered new potatoes and no sides. We informed the waiter that this is not what we ordered and that we would both like dauphinoise potatoes. With a blank look, and no apology, the waiter then proceeded to take away the buttered potatoes leaving our steaks at the table to go cold. After a few minutes I called the waiter over to ask him to put the steaks under the heat lamp as we have to wait for our sides. After about 7-8 minutes the team then came back with our meal, but low and behold return with the buttered new potatoes and one portion of dauphinoise potatoes and only the creamed cabbage side. At this point we were getting frustrated. To then make matters worse the dauphinoises’ were not cooked properly, they were cold in the centre in which I then had to inform the waiter and as I did I also had to ask where the mushrooms were as they have not arrived. He informed us it would be another 5-6 mins. As we got towards the very end of our steak, the mushrooms and the reordered dauphinoise came to the table without any apology. I can probably imagine why as they must have been equally embarrassed of the experience we have received thus far, however it was not good enough. Following a completely appalling experience, we both decided to order the apple crumble, as we both believe there couldn’t be much that could go wrong. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The apples were not cooked through and, like the dauphinoise potatoes, the centre of the crumble was cold.
A very elegant dining space but with a relaxed atmosphere. The Cornish crab starter was fantastic and I highly recommended the chateaubriand to share. The waiting staff were efficient and friendly. A particular mention goes to our very entertaining Italian waiter! A wonderful evening thank you.
Great location, beautiful building. Food was good, staff friendly and helpful. Given its location its great value for money
An excellent place for a quality business lunch next to the Bank of England
Really enjoyed the scenery and service here. Whilst I was a bit disappointed with the food. The lamb was too charred on the outside for my liking and the fish curry packed no punch in my opinion.
I would go back there as the service was excellent and I thought it was good value for the food we had.
I would also recommend it to other people as the decor is really nice.
The food was very good and service excellent. The fish and chips is always good, with great mushy peas and the smoked mackerel starter was strong but to my taste.
Wonderful meal and excellent service! Would recommend for special occasion.
Wonderful food, friendly and efficient service. Highly recommended
This is an upmarket experience. We were given a gift voucher from our daughter which we used in conjunction with a visit to London to see our son. We would not normally choose to eat at a restaurant this expensive unless for a special occasion but the service and food was excellent and we enjoyed our evening.
Such s stunning building with great food and service
Impressive setting and location, lovely food and great service.
Lamb with cockles is my recommendation!
Service excellent food good but nothing special and expensive for what it was ! Left hungry and £234 lighter in the pocket
The fish (haddock) and chips was very good as was the red mullet. Service was attentive so we managed to have a reasonably quick lunch without feeling hurried.
Server lacked proper skills and training.
Did not clear table often enough or even return to table for proper service.
Did not clean table before dessert.
We were the second table in the restaurant and when we ordered the same desserts, the server came back after 10-15 minutes and said she was very sorry that they had only one tiramisu and would you like something else.
Which I declined at that time.
I put my wallet on the table after my wife finished her dessert with the credit card on top in plain view.
She did not come to the table. My wife went to the women’s room and came back to the table and she still did not take the card.
I got up and walked to the Matre de on the other side of the dining room to pay my bill.
I explained what happed and he said he would investigate the issue.
When I left and checked the invoice outside, I was charge for 2 tiramisu’s and had to go back in the restaurant.
The maitre de tried to credit my bill and ended up charging my card a second time for the total minus the two dessert. I was later refunded, but I had to call about it.
It is unfortunate that we had this experience in a restaurant owned by my favorite chef.
Un trained staff should not be on their own with out guidence and proper training.
Friendly staff, not overly pretentious setting; good for a easy casual meal
A pleasant place for lunch. Menu not exciting but quality of food was fine.
I wouldn't write home about this experience but there was nothing wrong whatsoever.
Staff were attentive and pleasant.
First visit to this place and I was not disappointed - really good food in a very grand setting. Will definitely revisit.
The portion of the dishes are larger than expected. Very filling.
This was the perfect spot for a group of 9 celebrating American Thanksgiving. The food was excellent, the service outstanding, the prices reasonable and the room is spacious, with high ceilings and beautiful decorations that gave it a festive feel. I had the Seafood Tower, which I would probably not order again because of how much work it was, but the quality was outstanding. Everyone else really enjoyed their meals.
Felt a bit rushed
Whilst the food was nicely presented, the restaurant was noisy from the bar area and thus distracting. The waitresses need to be shown how to serve drinks in glasses that are not overflowing and drip and spoil customer's clothes (my wife's dress was spoilt and now has to be cleaned because the glass was messy and had overflowed onto the base. When this was pointed out to the waitress she just brought a paper napkin to wipe it up), nor should they stretch across the customers whilst serving. With only four of us, it is not difficult to serve each person from the left or right as behoves a quality restaurant. The service charge was far too high for the quality of service - sorry, grossly over-rated. I should have complained at the time but did not want to spoil the evening any further for my guests. Certainly would not recommend the restaurant or go again unless some form of enticement is offered.
I was very dissapointed with my experience at Wheelers, esepcially having looked so forward to treating my dad for his birthday whilst he was visiting London. The overall experience was just bad. Food, service, ambience, value for money, not one positive for either.
The attention to tables was poor, plates were not cleared, service was slow. My dad had a shepherds pie which I have seen a wetherspoons do better. I had a steak which was cold and just generally underwhelming for £32.
Not something I would expect with Marco Pierre White name attached to it. Needless to say I was shocked to have such a negative experience.
Very disappointed and sincerely hope Marco pays a visit to see for himself what's going on there, it's not good.
The food was to die for. The service was amazing.
It was a birthday celebration for my boyfriend.
We got free champagne on arrival.
Amazing. I cannot wait to go back. Thank you
I am a visitor from the United States. Wheeler's stood out in my memory as my finest dining experience in all of London. This was my 3rd trip to wheelers over 35 years. The first time was in 1974, everything was wonderful...especially the fish (first time I had place). In fact all the courses were delicious and beautifully presented. The second time was in 1996, everything was wonderful, just as before.
I brought a dear friend this time, in order that she could experience what, in my opinion, was the epitome of fine English dining on her first trip to London. The food was a disappointment to say the least.
This time all courses were average at best. The salad was not memorable. The fish pie filling was cooked perfectly but somewhat lacking in character; the mashed potato topping was tasteless and tepid (we would have ordered the hake, but it had sold out). The tiramisu in particular was heavy and not fresh with no hint of coffee or liquor.
In addition, we were offered refills to our lemonade (which as excellent) without being told that each one was a separate charge. The glasses were not large and filled with ice, therefore each serving was small (4-6 ounces). Quite a shock when we received the bill.
On a positive note, we were very late for lunch, traffic was terrible. Our time in London was very limited, and this was the only time we had for this long looked forward to dining experience. The chef was kind enough to agree to serve us even though we arrived only 15 minutes before the scheduled time for the kitchen to close. The matre d and our waitress were gracious and attentive.
Sadly...Wheeler's misses it's old owner. I am not likely tor return on my next trip to London.
Excellent. French onion soup was served at the temperature of the surface of the sun but was very nice
I took French and Belgian guests here, and even they enjoyed it - so the quality of the food is clear. The service was also very good.
Celebrated my Wife's 50th birthday. The excellent staff went out of their way to make it a special occasion whilst the food was also excellent. Given the prices of some London restaurants we also thought it was good value. It was a Monday evening so it was quieter than is probably the case towards the end of the week/weekend but there was still enough atmosphere to make it a good meal all round.
Good for a business lunch with decent options
Gastropub food at Marco Pierre White prices. No wonder it was nearly empty.
An interesting and attractive venue offered quick and friendly bar service. Food in the restaurant was excellent but let down badly by service that had to be hunted down. Almost nothing was offered, apart from menus placed on the table before we sat down. And bottled water was brought to the table without asking if we wanted it - we sent it away and asked for tap water. The wine list had to be requested. Wine wasn't topped up, and additional bottles were dependent on waving across the room to attract a waiter. The service was casual at best. The food however was brilliantly conceived and deliciously executed.
Very good food, excellent service, for business rather than anything else
0/5 When we arrived, we were the only table that was occupied. When we left, there was just one other. This obviously speaks volumes. The food clearly had been defrosted from frozen, as it lacked taste, apart from the butter which was smothered over it. The potatoes were layered - again with heaps of butter, and it tasted tough as if it has been previously cooked. Not a vegetable in sight. No ambiance whatsoever. Waiter was dancing to music that was on in the background. A child could have produced a more edible dinner. I would definitely NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT.
