Food and service were fine. It’s good if you live in the area or for theatre dinning.
Ever feel like someone is asking questions out of obligation without ever listening to or caring for the answer. This is the Margot wait staff. Food great, severely let down by the service. So much potential to be great, but you feel like they are more interested in turning the table and moving you on than ensuring the experience is great.
Took the cheese platter for dessert, after being told we wanted red wine, server pushed the recommended accompanying wines. My eyesight in the dim light a little poor so reinforced we wanted red wine. Our table waiter assured us that they were. Out comes Sherry and port. Both were good but service staff unable to distinguish between red wine, port and sherry are in the wrong job.
Lacks attention and polish for what it is trying to be.
Fantastic evening at Margot. The food was superb, the staff are fantastic. We had previously been for lunch which was excellent and dinner was of the same quality.
Had the 3 course set menu pre-theatre, wonderful creamy mushroom soup. Main was a sausage tagliatelle ragu which was so tasty. Can come across as quite a posh establishment but all the staff were very attentive and all made you feel welcome, set menu or not.
I would definitely go back
This was a wonderful place with great service. Beautiful central location and fun bar.
I was really disappointed with Margots. We arrived at 20.50 for a 21.00 reservation and were told our table would be ready in 10mins. We were taken downstairs to the bar for a drink, the barman was fantastic, attentive and engaging and I thought we were off to a good start. No one came to get us until 21.30 which by this time I was extremely hungry.
Two breadsticks were put on the table and we didn’t see anyone for at least another 15mins. The waiter came to take our food order and we hadn’t even ordered a drink. He said he would send the sommelier over which took another 15-20mins. The wine was brought and we then had to keep trying to catch the waiters eye to order our food as by this time it was after 10pm.
The food was ok, we had soup which was just lukewarm, my pasta was nice but my partners was average at best.
No one ever came to check on us to see how it was or if we needed anything and our wine glasses were constantly empty. This looked to be the case not just at our table.
We were then offered desserts only after we asked for the bill and for the first time ever I didn’t have one as it was nearly 11.30pm and just too late.
All in all the restaurant is beautifully decorated, the food average and the service lacklustre but still with the £££ price tag. A meal for two with wine was £300. Save yourself the money there are much better restaurants in London than this.
Excellent food and service
Went with my wife on a busy Friday evening after attending a civic function. Arrived 30 mins early so had a drink at a table in the basement. It would have been a nice touch to offer some nibbles with our drinks. Was seated upstairs at the front of the restaurant on time. My wife had the crab starter which was very good. I had the scallops which were disappointing, more style over substance. Our respective mains from the a la carte menu of chicken and lamb were good if not outstanding. The restaurant had sold out of Tiramisu (unforgivable for an Italian restaurant) and on ordering an alternative I ended up with a half scoop of ice cream with an expresso coffee poured over it. The restaurant was extreamly busy as the London Fashion show was being staged nearby and I believe that the service may have suffered as a result. Frenetic and functional rather than smooth would be my description.
The bill arrived and we had been charged for three glasses of champagne rather than two. The Assistant Manager apologised and rectified this immediately and also knocked off the cost of the dessert. I would probably give it another try but perhaps when it is a little quieter.
We really like this restaurant. Very good service. We started with a ruccola sallad which a little bit to much ruccola, otherwise ok. I had a wonderful ossobuco. Perfectly prepared. My wife a very good ravioli. As to desserts my first two choices were sold out so I had the third option, a chocolate sphere with a delicious filling. We were very well compensated for the trouble with my dessert choice. So on the whole a very nice meal.
Pleasant service, and top notch food, good choice for a pre-theatre meal.
Fantastic meal with wonderful, hospitable staff. Would highly recommend!
I had an very bad experience at Margot which should be removed from OpenTable.
One of the main courses (monkfish) had to be sent back as it was tepid. Very disappointing.
Booked Margot for a long late summer lunch with my wife. Spoke to one of the nice ladies and said I wanted cuddly seat. When we arrived, we were seated in a corner which is exactly what we like. Negronis were lovely, slightly slow to arrive. Our Barolo was absolutely excellent, so much so I ordered 6 bottles for home. Service first rate. Food pretty good. My wife said the pumpkin ravioli was a 10 out of 10 (and that is rare). Lovely cheese and salami to get us going. My wife slightly disappointed in the Vitello Tonnato, I liked it. Sea Bass tartare was fine, but not exceptional.
Restaurant itself is very stylish. Really nice feel, but to my surprise it was pretty quiet. Perhaps 1/3 full. My preference is a buzzy place with lots of people watching. This was not the case on this Sunday.
Great find in the very heart of Covent Garden, authentic quality Italian food great value, would highly recommend
Wedding Anniversary – though it was busy we didn’t feel at all crowded, the service was excellent, wine helpfully chosen to complement the food was perfect and the courses were genuinely Italian, we really felt looked after. Should have ordered more vegetable sides as we like quite a lot of veg. all in all, a great night – thanks Margot..
Lovely food , great service , would definitely visit again
Exceptional restaurant with high quality food and service. Top notch!
Perfetto! Delightful staff, beautiful setting and delicious food
Classic service, modern cooking. Simply superb. Have enjoyed both post theatre dinners and business lunches and perfect for both.
Everything was great
A very well executed osso bucco has me counting the days until my next visit!
Great food, fresh creative, the staff is very friendly and will recommend you great wines if you are not too familiar with the Italien terroir.
Excellent birthday dinner - lovely atmosphere and great food.
Now this is great Italian food! As a starter I went for a mozzarella di buffala with varied soft of tomatoes. Amazing
Then followed some parpadelle with ragu... OMG! So tasty
The service outside on the terrace was perfect and Overall I spent a perfect time.
To summarise my overall experience at Margot in one word; it was, delightful. The food was delicious although my scallops did feel a wee bit too soft but the wild boar ragú was fantastic. As for desert, I don’t remember what my bf had but it also tasted really good. I had a selection of cheese with bread which was for me, a great way to end a evening. As for the price-to-portion quality, I think it was fine. Also, Margot boasts an extensive wine selection to choose from. :-) I highly recommend Margot to any foodies, people looking for a neat place to go on a romantic date, a family dinner or even a business meal.
The staff were all very friendly and ready to give advise and recommendations.
Warm welcome and nice restaurant environment. Good attentive service and well looked after. Good food but Black Cod special was a bit expensive for what you got
The menu here is really appealling. Our food was competently cooked and enjoyable but main course of brill didn’t live up to my great expectations. The cocktails and wine were a higlight and the service was friendly and efficient.
Great staff and service. The food was excellent, as was the wine. We ate here before a show with our nine year old and we all loved our dinners.
Some of the food was nice. Quinoa salad was nice. Restaurant was empty. Service was good. Sea bass was tepid, cooked well but flavours didn't complement each other. Cheese serving was very small. Partner was not keen on the Ragu gnocchi, greasy. When booking on Open Table, it was showing that restaurant was fully booked except 12noon....yet restaurant was empty during our whole visit! This restaurant has potential...they need to listen to customers.
Great experience again, service is impeccable and food is excellent.
Nice atmosphere. Good food and portions. Friendly service. Good vine.
Loved the whole experience service was impeccable, they made us feel special would definitely recommend. The wine was a little expensive but very nice.
Disappointed that the second bottle of wine was poured without our party offered the opportunity to taste. It could have been “off” and tainted the wine already in our glasses. Not to be expected in a restaurant of this calibre. Otherwise a really nice venue in Covent Garden and would definitely return.
Superb decor, great food and very attentive staff.
Really nice food, a little expensive. Friendly attentive service, would go there again.
Very happy with the service and food quality. Nice atmosphere.
Excellente soirée passée dans un ce restaurant . Service impeccable, repas excellent , personnel très avenant .
We visited this restaurant on a weekend trip to London, been recommended to us by our daughter it lived up to her recommendation we had a lovely evening the food was excellent and the staff very attentive without being too fussy. Will be booking again on our next trip to London.
The food was exceptional and so was the service. Great ambience too.
