Best Russian food ever and I’m marrying a Russian so must be good :)
Little bit different from the Moscow one, more “restaurant” than a “flat”, but very tasty and nice place!
As good as ever. I shall never tire of bringing friends here for a taste of Russia.
Excellent Georgian wine.
My second time eating at Mari Vanna in the last couple of months - I came with a friend in July and we just loved it. I took my mum for a treat and she loved it too. The food is so comforting and homely, with amazing flavours. All served with impeccable presentation in a quirky and interesting setting - I recommend a trip to the loo to check out the decor! The staff were absolutely lovely on both visits, singing happy birthday in Russian for my friend and being incredibly attentive. A unique experience, definitely worth a visit.
Interior- amazing, food - amazing, atmosphere- amazing. Definitely coming back!
Had a lovely evening
I like this place and food is definitely Micheline -star level. But also I like
to have breakfast with friends here as it quiet in the morning and breakfast is just wonderful
and hearty here.
interesting decor, and quite impressive. service could be much better. food is ok, but for its quality was overpriced. could be a fun visit though.
My Russian friends and I were feeling a little home-sick as well as we wanted our French friend to taste Russian cuisine. The menu was extensive and all the food was delicious, I would definitely recommend to anyone longing to try out or to remember Russian dishes. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of a grandma's country house and was impressed with the attention put in all the little details.
However, the service was very off and left us somehow confused after the dinner. The hostess wasn't friendly at all and later rushed us to finish as there was another reservation, yet, it was the food that took a while to come. The waitress seemed a little lost and grumpy, and (again) wasn't friendly at all. This would leave a weird vibe and sometimes even stop a conversation at our table. One might say it's Russians that aren't friendly etc., but it would never happen at a restaurant (especially of this level and price tag) in Russia. Given all that, the fact that the people there don't speak well Russian (in a sense of style and grammar, they are clearly native) is a very minor detail, but it just adds to the off-putting feeling when it all comes together.
Overall, I have a very mixed feelings and would definitely recommend it for the food, it was amazing, but you have to be ready for a cold off-putting vibe and slow service.
Food excellent, unique place, enjoyed our evening there and will definitely go back.
Poor service- the waiter made a mistake with an order and was ride enough to start arguing that the mistake was actually ours. No replacement offered. The food quality became quite average.
Excellent address in the neighbourhood, delicious food, great service and atmosphere, Mari Vanna never disappoints!
Great place! Wisited the one in Moscow and I can say, London’s Mari Vanna is authentic. Great food, great stuff., great interior! Now I need to visit the one in NYC! 😊
The best food I have had for years. Especially the deserts are of really high class.
Charming and efficient service but the seemingly all Russian staff. Superb cocktails, well timed food service and excellent authentic food. Very nice ambience, comfortable seating, a lovely overall experience - will definitely come back!
Nice atmosphere, great ambience 👍🏼 , would definitely recommend it for less than 5 people gathering for chat and small bits.
Didn’t try the dinner though, sure it will go above my expectations 👍🏼
Thanks for having us
an expensive place but not as delicious as the price tag
service charge is also very high
Excellent and authentic russian cuisine!
The food wasn’t very refined, was expecting great things but very disappointed with the quality. Could do a lot better to accommodate children as well, a pot of crayons isn’t good enough. How about tailoring the menu a bit? Napoleon cake stodgy and tasteless but the honey cake was lovely.
Well below average and staff need training about the basics!
I've been to Mari Vanna in the past with my partner and we had a really good experience. The food is interesting and vibrant. Great interior and ambiance but if you expect great service you're in for a surprise.
We booked a table for 5 and things went wrong from the outset. There was a mix up with our drinks order and when we kindly asked the waiting staff to replace it, they were rolling their eyes, whispering between each other and told us they need to check with the manager! The staff had very poor knowledge of the menu and were unable to recommend or describe wines to go with the food. Everything we asked for was a problem and it was difficult to get their attention.
I'm not one to complain but having worked in hospitality for 20 years I was really disappointed with the experience. It was terrible!
My only concern was that there were very limited info about the Georgian wine
Mari Vanna London did not disappoint. Everything from the food and service to the vodka was exceptional.
The food tasted very local and the atmosphere was something special. The seats in the middle of the room was not particularly relaxing but this is a unique restaurant you should give it a go.
I go to Mari Vanna mostly for the ambiance and decorations. It's so pretty, even toilets! The food is very good too. Salad portions are quite small, but very tasty. My salmon was a good portion, would recommend to order sides. I've tasted friend's smetannik for desert, it was very creamy and lots of rasberries, yum! Service was a tad off though but very friendly. They do try, just a bit slow with serving drinks and clearing the table. Should pop over to table more often .
We overstayed our allocated time, appreciate letting us stay a bit longer than expected!
Overall, great experience, will be back soon!
We had a nice extended lunch with wine, pirogs, borscht pelmeni and vareniki. It was a perfect remembrance to my stay in Russia many years ago. The service was very friendly and attentive. The interior of the restaurant is quite fancy, mixing Russian tradition and Anekdote from Soviet time. To appreciate this you should speak some Russian.
Best place to try Eastern European cuisine in London. Great pancakes, delicious dumplings and always amazing puddings.
Great place with authentic Russian style, reasonably priced.
Russia has a reputation for poor food and worse service. This restaurant has fine food and even better service so I highly recommend it. Different, cool and full of Russian Families who must know a thing or two
Très bon restaurant, un jolie cadre russe, le service professionnel et attentif , la cuisine russe délicieuse. Bon moment passé en famille pour l'anniversaire de ma fille!
The food was amazing, the service and friendliness of the staff was as well. Very pretty inside, just can’t say enough good about this place. My Russian friends told me to check this place out while in London - they said it’s real authentic traditional Russian fair. Glad I listened to them. Will go again next time I’m in London. We had borscht, mixed salad, perogi, the rack of lamb, and chicken. And of course vodka shots. All fabulous.
Expensive, but the food is really nice.
Pies are incredible.
You need some luck with the music. It could be anything from Russian full sound rap to meditative old pop.
Described by Time out as quirky; I would say quaint, taking you back in time, with Russian music playing in the background.
The food had a home made feel although curious about the cold tinned mushrooms served with the main course as to whether that was typical Russian and the chicken fritters had a processed meat feel about them.
I would recommend Mari Vanna, if looking for something a little quirky and quaint and for home style cooking.
I visited the restaurant for the second time in two years with my mother. The decor is wonderful. Very homely and full of soviet memorabilia. Beautiful wooden tables and ornate seats, cabinets and dishes. There are old books and while you go to the restroom, a fairytale is playing. The ambiance, is homely and creative and everything is spotlessly clean. The food is delicious and one is well-looked after. The only downside is that the prices are very steep. You may not be able to afford going there every week (unless you do not mind paying £100 for a meal for two but feel full to the brim) but it warrants a special occasion. Do not pass it by and sample Russian, Eastern European and Georgian dishes which are on offer. For me it's like a taste from some.
Wanting to try authentic Russian cuisine, we headed to Mari Vanna and weren’t disappointed. Yes, it’s a few bob, especially if you splash out on the blinis with caviar or the vodka menu, but it’s worth it. I had the blinis to start and Siberian dumplings with fried potatoes and onions for main, and was stuffed (even though the dessert cake looked enticing). The decor matched our impression of some rich Russian’s parlour and felt like we’d been invited around for a family dinner. Perhaps not everyone’s taste of food or decor but we liked it, so there!
As good as always. I shall never tire of inviting my friends here for a taste of authentic Russian food and a delightful setting. So much to look at all round the walls and even in the loos!
Very friendly staff
Spent my birthday at Mari Vanna and my bf and I loved it. There is no better representation to our true home cuisine than this place. 👏🏼
It was our anniversary, however no one acknowledged it+ service wasn’t attentive and there weren’t warmth. Food is great and ambiance is amazing.
Lovely place in Knightsbridge. Food is delicious and homie but very over priced, for simple menu but starting price was around 15 pounds... A bit too much.
Me and my friend ordered 2 glasses of prosecco which was half full but we were charged full price. The staff was friendly and polite but to me they seemed a bit sleepy looking was missing that welcoming atmosphere and smile. The restaurant has an interesting décor and I did like the background music :) overall I would give it 3 stars out of 5. Mainly to improve customer service to be more welcoming and not sleepy looking.
Lovely birthday Celebration, everyone was very polite
