Specialising in “babushka cooking”, the menu is replete with Russian dishes and influences from the former Soviet countries of Georgia, Ukraine and also offers an extensive selection of salads and lighter dishes displaying a liberal use of fresh herbs. Its generous and exquisite selection of tea-time treats, cakes and infusions, meanwhile, is hard to resist, and available throughout the day.
With extraordinary attention to detail, Mari Vanna transports each guest into the Russian home of a bygone era where shelves are adorned with matryoshka dolls, trinkets and tchotchke. Displaying true Russian tradition from top to toe, Mari Vanna is a rare find in London.
Initially opened in a private apartment in St Petersburg, Mari Vanna has sister restaurants in Moscow and New York.

The food tasted very local and the atmosphere was something special. The seats in the middle of the room was not particularly relaxing but this is a unique restaurant you should give it a go.
I go to Mari Vanna mostly for the ambiance and decorations. It's so pretty, even toilets! The food is very good too. Salad portions are quite small, but very tasty. My salmon was a good portion, would recommend to order sides. I've tasted friend's smetannik for desert, it was very creamy and lots of rasberries, yum! Service was a tad off though but very friendly. They do try, just a bit slow with serving drinks and clearing the table. Should pop over to table more often .
We overstayed our allocated time, appreciate letting us stay a bit longer than expected!
Overall, great experience, will be back soon!
We had a nice extended lunch with wine, pirogs, borscht pelmeni and vareniki. It was a perfect remembrance to my stay in Russia many years ago. The service was very friendly and attentive. The interior of the restaurant is quite fancy, mixing Russian tradition and Anekdote from Soviet time. To appreciate this you should speak some Russian.
Best place to try Eastern European cuisine in London. Great pancakes, delicious dumplings and always amazing puddings.
Great place with authentic Russian style, reasonably priced.
Russia has a reputation for poor food and worse service. This restaurant has fine food and even better service so I highly recommend it. Different, cool and full of Russian Families who must know a thing or two
Très bon restaurant, un jolie cadre russe, le service professionnel et attentif , la cuisine russe délicieuse. Bon moment passé en famille pour l'anniversaire de ma fille!
The food was amazing, the service and friendliness of the staff was as well. Very pretty inside, just can’t say enough good about this place. My Russian friends told me to check this place out while in London - they said it’s real authentic traditional Russian fair. Glad I listened to them. Will go again next time I’m in London. We had borscht, mixed salad, perogi, the rack of lamb, and chicken. And of course vodka shots. All fabulous.
Expensive, but the food is really nice.
Pies are incredible.
You need some luck with the music. It could be anything from Russian full sound rap to meditative old pop.
Described by Time out as quirky; I would say quaint, taking you back in time, with Russian music playing in the background.
The food had a home made feel although curious about the cold tinned mushrooms served with the main course as to whether that was typical Russian and the chicken fritters had a processed meat feel about them.
I would recommend Mari Vanna, if looking for something a little quirky and quaint and for home style cooking.
I visited the restaurant for the second time in two years with my mother. The decor is wonderful. Very homely and full of soviet memorabilia. Beautiful wooden tables and ornate seats, cabinets and dishes. There are old books and while you go to the restroom, a fairytale is playing. The ambiance, is homely and creative and everything is spotlessly clean. The food is delicious and one is well-looked after. The only downside is that the prices are very steep. You may not be able to afford going there every week (unless you do not mind paying £100 for a meal for two but feel full to the brim) but it warrants a special occasion. Do not pass it by and sample Russian, Eastern European and Georgian dishes which are on offer. For me it's like a taste from some.
Wanting to try authentic Russian cuisine, we headed to Mari Vanna and weren’t disappointed. Yes, it’s a few bob, especially if you splash out on the blinis with caviar or the vodka menu, but it’s worth it. I had the blinis to start and Siberian dumplings with fried potatoes and onions for main, and was stuffed (even though the dessert cake looked enticing). The decor matched our impression of some rich Russian’s parlour and felt like we’d been invited around for a family dinner. Perhaps not everyone’s taste of food or decor but we liked it, so there!
As good as always. I shall never tire of inviting my friends here for a taste of authentic Russian food and a delightful setting. So much to look at all round the walls and even in the loos!
Very friendly staff
Spent my birthday at Mari Vanna and my bf and I loved it. There is no better representation to our true home cuisine than this place. 👏🏼
It was our anniversary, however no one acknowledged it+ service wasn’t attentive and there weren’t warmth. Food is great and ambiance is amazing.
Lovely place in Knightsbridge. Food is delicious and homie but very over priced, for simple menu but starting price was around 15 pounds... A bit too much.
Me and my friend ordered 2 glasses of prosecco which was half full but we were charged full price. The staff was friendly and polite but to me they seemed a bit sleepy looking was missing that welcoming atmosphere and smile. The restaurant has an interesting décor and I did like the background music :) overall I would give it 3 stars out of 5. Mainly to improve customer service to be more welcoming and not sleepy looking.
Lovely birthday Celebration, everyone was very polite
Very authentic Russian style cuisine worth the experience
Good menu and wine options with good size portions
Unique style of decoration with Russian memrobillia from pre to post Soviet times
Fantastic. My wife is Russian and this was a special occasion and she told me how good the food was. Definitely will be going back. Several times.
Thank you for very s peaceful & homy atmosphere, attention to details & to every Guest. The Best of British Russian Place in London.
Great tasting and fresh food, friendly/helpful service, fun decor, food arrived quickly . I would definitely return
Always very good. We shall never tire of inviting our friends to have a delicious lunch here.
The food, the ambience, the service are delightful
I enjoyed my lunch at Mari Vanna. For lunch I chose Olivie salad, Pelmeni and Honey Cake, which is THE BEST in town! After we paid our bill, they brought shots of their amazing house infused vodka on the house. Will be coming back!
Amazing interior - almost magical. The food was alright- service was ok, not the friendliest of stuff. However the prices are really good for such an atmosphere and central location.
As lovely as ever. I shall never tire of bringing our friends here. I hope they, in turn, will show it to their friends. It is a real gem in London. The food is delicious and the service very friendly.
Fantastic place to show foreign friends the real Russian kitchen. Will come again.
An absolute gem! Wonderful experience. Have been there about 10 times now!! Will keep returning.
Excellent service and good food. Very good location.
As delightful as ever. Fifth visit and have already booked two more. A real treat for my friends .
For some of them it is the first introduction to authentic Russian food.
Nostalgia for me.
Very friendly and pleasant staff.
Loved the food!
Had a good exprience !
I’ve been 3 times already. Always great food and amazing service. Cannot find a fault! Highly recommend a visit to experience russian culture and food
Enjoyable lunch in a lovely setting. Authentic Russian dishes.
Good choice of dishes and excellent cooking.
Staff is lovely and very accommodating.
Unfortunately it didn’t come up to my expectations... was expecting better quality food.
What we got was average. Couldn’t even finish everything on my plate.
Wonderful place, great food and the best location for shopping in Knightsbridge afterwards!!
I would recommend to start with Beluga vodka as appetitive 😄and a starter to go with it (pickles celection )
Sturgeon with champagne sauce as a main course
You can have a wonderful desert at the Harrods Icecream parlour across the road or try a Russian honey cake, my all time favorite
The restaurant interior was unique and lovely. But food was average with unfriendly staff.
There are a lot of really authentically dishes in the menu. Very attentive and Russian/English speaking stuff. Some portions are big enough for two. The washrooms are definitely unique!
It is a lovely restaurant! This was my fourth visit and I have already booked three more lunches.
I invite my friends for a really good meal in a delightful setting.
A real find in London.
Tasty traditional Russian food. A bit overpriced, but worth it
Great experience! Ambiance is very cozy - I felt at home. Great decoration, friendly and attentive staff. It so cool that they thought about every small space in this restaurant - you can even listen to a fairytail (in Russian, of course) in a bathroom.
Food was good - I cannot say that it was something outstanding that I never tried, but quality is good. Napoleon (dessert) and herring salad (my favorute) were simply great!
It is a good plae where you can try Georgian wines - I think it is quite unique for London.
So, I recommend!
