Specialising in “babushka cooking”, the menu is replete with Russian dishes and influences from the former Soviet countries of Georgia, Ukraine and also offers an extensive selection of salads and lighter dishes displaying a liberal use of fresh herbs. Its generous and exquisite selection of tea-time treats, cakes and infusions, meanwhile, is hard to resist, and available throughout the day.
With extraordinary attention to detail, Mari Vanna transports each guest into the Russian home of a bygone era where shelves are adorned with matryoshka dolls, trinkets and tchotchke. Displaying true Russian tradition from top to toe, Mari Vanna is a rare find in London.

I really loved this place. Keep it up! Amazing restaurant
The whole experience was amazing, like sitting in a family home, with partner being from Latvia she fully enjoyed the food and interior.
Love the style, love the food, great service - can’t wait to visit again!
Amazing restaurant, always on top. Highly recommend.
Beautiful food, especially the herring in a “fur coat”! Fabulous decor. Professional staff.
Great place. Nice food and environment. A bit tide inside, but still good. Would recommend to visit.
Mari Vanna is a great spot for a fun night out with friends, then food is good and portion sizes are reasonable (look out for the huge pots of Borscht!), drink selection is eclectic and essentially Russian. Service is friendly and informative - overall highly recommended!
Loved it!! Full house and a very unique restaurant.
The hostess upon request placed us on a nice corner table. The food and drink was decent. The wait service was a bit mixed. Although pleasant enough, they missed a few things. For example we weren't given the dessert menu at the end and then when we asked after much time had passed, we were told they would have to check if the kitchen was still open. Nevertheless, if you like Russian cuisine, this is probably the best restaurant in London to offer it.
Lovely people, lovely service
This was always one of my favourite restaurants, my husband's absolute favourite (he is Italian), but my last visit to the restaurant left me unhappy and I won't be coming back for a while. I had the amazing borch soup and then beef stroganoff (my Ukranian friend had both as well). The soup was fab, but beef stroganoff was so bad. The source was unbalanced and thick, my friend's beef pieces were not even cut up, so she was eating chunks of meat.. and the mashed potatoes were horrendous - dry dry dry and tasteless. I did give my feedback to the waiter. He was genuinely sorry. But given that nothing was done to remedy the situation, that is just unacceptable. Very sad.
It was my second experience with this beautiful restaurant!
The blinis with smoked salmon was great and the dessert delicious
And don’t forget to visit the restroom !!! It’s amazing
Staff super rude, very long waiting to get our dishes and we have ordered starters and mains that arrived at the same time, so had to rush on the starter to not eat cold the main.
Decoration super heavy, too much, environmemt a bit suffocating, too many things.
Super expensive for the quality of food and service. If you dont speak Russian, they really treat you badly.
The food was tasty and authentic.
We love just everything
A special place for us. Brilliant on all levels.
Excellent, highly authentic Russian food (on the heavy side) in a cozy setting - like home from home for this Russian expat. The service was prompt and with great attention to detail (for example, the table was reserved with a framed sign with my name in English and Russian). Great selection of non alcoholic drinks for non drinkers (in addition to a very long list of vodkas and Georgian wines) - the cranberry mors is to die for. If it were not so expensive, I’d dine here every day!
Amazing, proper Russian food, amazing place! We’ll definitely go again!
Just fantastic atmosphere and food.
We love the food and ambience at Mari Vanna and it gives my Russian wife a regular opportunity to experience a bit of Russian home cooking and atmosphere. But the service is less than impressive given the pricing. Clearly a Soviet style attitude to service shouldn’t be part of the attraction of the restaurant, even if Russian nostalgia is. Staff in general are generally disinterested, unwelcoming and inattentive. I hope that someone takes these comments to heart because we otherwise love the place.
This is a well located restaurant and walking in a nice warm atmosphere when we arrived.
However the waiter wasn’t really welcoming and treated as like number , no personal touch and service u would expect from this class of restaurant.
That was little disappointing.
The food was only ok nothing special for a very expensive price tag.
I have no problem of paying more that is why I pick that type of places but this wasn’t worth it.I had a chicken soup that tasted only on herbs they added ,and a main was average ( minced meat in a cabbage with cream.)
The desert honey cake that is their signature was nice.
It was ok but I would not be coming back to this restaurant as they need improvement.
They are always available to book via open table even an hour before u want to go they should think about this .. because normally good restaurants in London are sold out a week beforehand at least.
Very attentive and considerate service, the food was delicious especially the beetroot salad starter and the famous honeycake! The staff made us feel very welcome and looked after
Loved the honey cake
Lovely quirky place to visit, good service and a nice calm atmosphere (a nice change not to have loud music or people around!).
Food was good and enjoyable, it can’t say superb but the overall experience made the visit a pleasure. The Georgian white wine was very good although they ran out after 2 glasses.
I recommend a visit and will return myself.
The food was a decently overpriced, understandable, however, given their location. The chicken and duck was VERY dry and made me lose all appetite after a couple of bites.
The soups and other appetizers were well crafted and delicious. Service staff were pleasant and caring. Last but not least the restaurant is beautiful.
Overall it would be a five star review if the main course wasn’t so disappointing.
I went with a Polish friend who is more familiar with Russian cuisine, we were both very impressed. I would definitely like to return for more.
Nice place if you would like to try traditional Russian food and feel a bit of Russian culture from the nice interior of the restaurant.
Had never tried Russian cuisine. It was better than I expected and the staff was very friendly.
Sampled wine from Georgia which was also unexpectedly quite good.
Very good food, but most of the staff were very unfriendly. Last time it was much better. Train your staff to be friendly and polite, or hire new ones.
We love the traditional Russian food at Mari Vanna.
Amazing food and service
Authentic Russian place
Service was very disappointing - as i entered there was no one to greet or welcome me. I had to find my way to the table. After 10 minutes I had to ask for a waiter to order water however he didn’t come over just pointed at his colleague to come as we were not in his area of responsibility. When finally the waiter came over and left the menus he came back quickly again to take our order and when we said we are not ready he replied but you only have the table for another hour. It felt staff had attitude and not aware of service yet alone creating a nice experience for the guests.
Not my first time and definitely not the last one. Love this place, great food and atmosphere. Like being back to childhood
We just came back from a trip to Russia and found this restaurant - what a treat!. Excellent food and superb service. We felt like being back in St. Petersburg. Can highly recommend this restaurant from a food, ambience and service perspective. We will be back!
This is easily the best Russian restaurant in London. The interior decor is charming with chandeliers, books and quaint artefacts. The service could be better as some of the staff are indifferent, but the lady in front of house reception is exceptionally helpful.
It is frequented by tourists (presumably due to its decor) and Russians/Eastern Europeans, due to the high standard of it's cuisine. I went for dinner with a lovely Ukrainian whomslected all the dishes and it was a delightful evening
The place is beautiful and the ambiance is great just like in other locations. The service was surpassingly unfriendly and the food very, very blend. NYC location is 100 times better in terms of food and service
Excellent service and delicious food, as always!
pros: nice decoration, special Russian theme
cons: food is only fair, the Napoleon dessert is not good
