Specialising in “babushka cooking”, the menu is replete with Russian dishes and influences from the former Soviet countries of Georgia, Ukraine and also offers an extensive selection of salads and lighter dishes displaying a liberal use of fresh herbs. Its generous and exquisite selection of tea-time treats, cakes and infusions, meanwhile, is hard to resist, and available throughout the day.
With extraordinary attention to detail, Mari Vanna transports each guest into the Russian home of a bygone era where shelves are adorned with matryoshka dolls, trinkets and tchotchke. Displaying true Russian tradition from top to toe, Mari Vanna is a rare find in London.
Initially opened in a private apartment in St Petersburg, Mari Vanna has sister restaurants in Moscow and New York.

Not my first time and definitely not the last one. Love this place, great food and atmosphere. Like being back to childhood
We just came back from a trip to Russia and found this restaurant - what a treat!. Excellent food and superb service. We felt like being back in St. Petersburg. Can highly recommend this restaurant from a food, ambience and service perspective. We will be back!
This is easily the best Russian restaurant in London. The interior decor is charming with chandeliers, books and quaint artefacts. The service could be better as some of the staff are indifferent, but the lady in front of house reception is exceptionally helpful.
It is frequented by tourists (presumably due to its decor) and Russians/Eastern Europeans, due to the high standard of it's cuisine. I went for dinner with a lovely Ukrainian whomslected all the dishes and it was a delightful evening
The place is beautiful and the ambiance is great just like in other locations. The service was surpassingly unfriendly and the food very, very blend. NYC location is 100 times better in terms of food and service
Excellent service and delicious food, as always!
pros: nice decoration, special Russian theme
cons: food is only fair, the Napoleon dessert is not good
Very disappointed with yesterday’s service.
I made a note that it was my friend’s birthday at the time of reservation. The male waiter did not bother to ask whose birthday it was, did not bother to make us feel particularly welcome, wasn’t that interested at all. The restaurant wasn’t busy, so he could’ve easily spend a little bit of time building rapport. He turned up at our table asking all three of us if the cake was ready, since earlier I mentioned that I would like for him to bring a cake and candles that I discreetly brought with me. So the surprise was completely spoilt. When I asked him why he didn’t check with me first about the cake he was very rude and just said “ how do I know which birthday it is?!” -not the service one expects when having a casual dinner between three ladies in the middle of the week and paying a whopping £240! 12.5% for the service was undeserving and we felt ripped off. You may attempt to produce “grandmother like cooking” but you certainly succeeded providing Soviet union like service with waiters who can’t be bothered until it’s time to get their tip. In addition, the tables were very close to each other so we could hear conversations around us and the temperature was unbearable, it was very stuffy and hot. Real shame as all 3 of us were really looking forward to this celebration.
The place really needs good renovation. What used to be cosy has become worn-out and even a bit smelly. The waiters were not attentive. Food was ok but it used to be much better.
Not impressed this time with the food. Ambience- gets very hot when crowded, almost unbearable to enjoy the meal.
Lovely quirky character restaurant with friendly and welcoming staff and great Russian food. We're looking forward to our next visit :)
For those who, like myself, like Russian food. Friendly service and good food, wine list includes decent Georgian wines. The menu includes many favourites so there’s always a reason to come back. The only downside is the music. They play 80s-00’s Russian pop and chanson and it is rather tiring. I would recommend playing Russian classical music, arias from operas or pop from the 20s and 50-60s, maybe remixed.
Love this place! The food is of the highest quality
Excellent experience. Food is very nice, good portions, ample choices. Gorka dessert is a MUST!
A bit pricey but the food and environment is great
Quality of food is outstanding! Russian cuisine is the best!
Must visit this restaurant! Highly recommend!
An amazing Russian restaurant with an amazing variety of Russian traditional food!
Probably the best Russian food place in London but far from perfect if you can compare to places in Russia.
The best russian food in london! Even if you are not russian you feel very welcomed.
It felt like being home with Baba and Deda. Witty, cosy, super delicious and also fun (we celebrate a 30th birthday and how all the staff sang the birthday song in Russian was awesome and hilarious and heartwarming)!
Cold Salads excellent
potatoes and mushroom sides excellent
wish they had a vegetarian buorsch option, only thing
porcini soup perfect
the selection of breads
...the honey cake...
the environment is so cosy, welcoming, mad Russian house, full of little things cute,
perhaps the toilets a bit too fake...
but they are always glorious...
The place used to be my favourite but I am quite disappointed with the experience I had last time . The staff were a bit rude and really lack of patience to explain the menu and the reception girl was rolling her eyes to my friends not sure for what reason ...
Simply beautiful food, shame staff aren’t a little friendlier
Service was attentive, decorations were beautiful, Borsch was amazing .
Unfortunately Golubtzi seemed to be from a week ago and that was our biggest disappointment as we came specifically for that dish but ended up eating Borshch and asking for an extra portion to take home.
Overall , definitely is worth a try however make sure you ask a waiter if the food was cooked on the day.
Wonderful like every time !!! We are coming ever 2-3 week with my fiancé and we love it !
Excellent traditional Russian food, but closeness of the tables does mean it can be a bit loud.
Really nice decorations, tasty food, unique atmosphere. The service was a bit slow, waited for about 30 minutes for our mains. Overall we liked it and will come back again.
This is our favourite Russian restaurant in London. The food is always fantastic, and the staff are both friendly and efficient. Would highly recommend, particularly good value given its location.
While the ambiance and food was excellent, the waiter seemed to want to be anywhere but there. Unless you were the table of 4 single cute women next to us, we got no smile, words, or even
acknowledgements of an order. If I lived In London I may suggest this place only if that guy wasn’t there....the rest of the staff was polite..... he was rude and seemed as if everyone else was bothering him by being there.
Great place for Russian food and vibe in the centre of London. Have been here few times and sure to come back again, tasty food and excellent service. Five stars all around.
Amazing cocktails, great traditional food. Lovely and authentic interior. Waiters struggled to speak English but my friend was Russian so this wasnt a problem. I will absolutely be going back!
The atmosphere in the restaurant is very good for meeting friends and trying traditional Russian food.
However, if you come here with your family to eat then this isn’t the place to do so.
We had a fantastic meal at Mari Vanna. Everything about it was brilliant. We were welcomed warmly and shown to our table. Our waiter was really friendly and helpful and the ambiance/decor are lovely. You really feel you've entered another time and place. We were given complimentary bread and butter which was delicious. We ordered starters to share (a sort of terrine, beetroot and prune salad and pickles- and then for main course my husband had Siberian dumplings and I had stuffed cabbage leaves which we again ended up sharing with some griddled vegetables. Every mouthful was delicous. We couldn't fault the evening in any way. We'd recommend it to anyone and can't wait to go back ourselves.
Fantastic place, wonderful food and atmosphere! A perfect lunch with my girlfriend - thank you everyone
It was good experience until we were told we are there for too long and the lady told us we stayed more than 1 1/2 hour. We love the food there but I think the lady working there was kind of rude. We spend more than £100 for 2 and they wanted to get rid of us after we finish our food. We still wanted to order more drinks but decided to go somewhere else after that lady wearing white shirt told us we should go.
Food was very good and the environment great. However, the service was in a hurry and demanded of us to order immediately.
I would definitely suggest the blinis as an appetizer and the honey-cake for dessert, both delicious.
Great cosy dinner restaurant with amazingly delicious Russian food
Delicious food, really tastes like homemade. Very good service too
Very tasty food and very friendly wait staff. Beautifully decorated restaurant with a very homely atmosphere. Best Russian food in London.
Excellent servise, staff and food! Will return again!
The experience is a must to have
Recommended by a friend and this was my first time
Will come again for sure
Excellent Russian cuisine and authentic Russian atmosphere. Great place. Love it!
