Excellent food and service
Excellent food at amazing value for this high end restaurant. Professional & friendly service. We’ll be back!
The meal was OK, prawn cocktail was generous and good, other starter was mainly beetroot with a tiny bit of grated apple and two tiny balls of goats cheese. Both main courses were OK but disappointing but it is good that you realise home cooking is better than eating out.
Wonderful food, beautifully crafted with exciting combinations and flavours. The service was generally courteous and efficient with only one member of staff being aloof and a little intimidating. This was a special occasion and served the purpose well. We will certainly return.
Great evening meal, relaxed atmosphere but sophiscated dining. Food excellent, great wine list and service perfect. Highly recommend
Outstanding food that far exceeded our expectations. Sensationally beautiful and tasting dishes from tasting menu. Vegetarian substitutions were magnificent, which makes a pleasant change. Superb example of Michelin quality, fine dining at its best. Vast improvement on previous iteration (Edmunds) though food was fine then too. Professional, discreet service. Thank you!
Maribel is quite nice. We were big fans of Edmunds (the former restaurant here).
Lovely atmosphere, quiet and sophisticated. Attentive staff. Food was wonderful, we went A La Carte.
Only two downsides-
Firstly, the Argentinian Pinot Noir by the glass was undrinkable. I had a couple of sips and then I simply left the rest of the glass because it tasted incredibly bitter and rough around the edges. We were disappointed as we trusted the sommelier would have curated a menu of wines by the glass of a better calibre. £10 per glass also, felt like an expensive waste. Mentioned this to one of the servers and they apologised that it was not to my taste but I do feel it was an objectively bad-tasting wine! I have never before left a glass of wine unfinished in a restaurant.
Secondly, whilst dining we heard a woman loudly explain she was here with a Groupon voucher, not what one likes to learn about whilst dining full-price. We investigated the deal after we got home and it would have saved us a considerable amount of money.
Despite these minor downsides, we may return in future as the food was delicious and the atmosphere was very agreeable.
Food was beautiful, very tasty and perfect in every way. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the service was efficient and professional. The restaurant was lovely and comfortable and very clean. It was quiet when we visited but there was music playing softly in the background which created a nice atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this restaurant, it was superb in every way.
The food was absolutely fantastic - the only thing I would mention is the men’s toilet ceilings were very stained, but other than that all was perfect !!
Excellent service. Outstanding food- flavours were exceptional. Would highly recommend.
Three of us went last Thursday lunchtime for a taster meal. I think there were six courses and we enjoyed them all. Most were dishes we would never have ordered ourselves but the quality of taste and presentation was outstanding. Each dish was briefly described to us as it was served by friendly staff. Expensive but nice to treat ourselves occasionally!
Very good couldn't have asked for a better restaurant service and food amazing
I used to visit quite often when the restaurant was known as Edmunds. It was very good then and it is really good to see that as Maribels the restaurant continues to provide excellent quality food, brilliantly presented at reasonable prices.
I am going there with my family;y for Christmas 2019, therefore it is with no surprise that I very strongly recommend Maribels.
Wonderful food, atmosphere and service. I recommend it for a lovely dining experience and something a little different.
First visit to the restaurant. Very pleasantly surprised. Excellent service, attentive but not over intrusive. Food of excellent quality and every plate was enjoyed thoroughly. Recommended!!
Fantastic fine dining food is a quiet and excellently staffed restaurant. Very good value for money for such delicious food.
Very talented chef, deserves a Michelin star can see him being poached by a London hotel
We had a lovely evening - discreet and professional service; carefully thought out and beautifully exececuted dishes. We ate a la carte - but the tasting menu also looked very appealing.
Extremely disappointed, Michelin style price without the substance to back it up. A few gimmicks with the presentation don’t make up for the bland food. I’m amazed at the other 5 star reviews of this place, there must be a lot of people out there who don’t know any better if they think this is the hight of fine dining.
A very nice restaurant with very good food and service - nice people
The tasting menu was delicious - interesting and varied with unusual combinations of flavours and excellent presentation.
My partner and I enjoyed a lovely birthday lunch at Maribel.
The décor and ambience was really classy and relaxing. The food was beautifully presented and the portion sizes were more generous than similar restaurants. It was some of the most delicious food I've had in a long time and the service was excellent. I would highly recommend!
A nice restaurant with really good food - for foodies and those looking for a cosy place for lunch of dinner. I was there on business and really enjoyed my experience. The portions could have been bigger, I guess: my three-course menu was just enough for a small dinner but not for someone who had skipped lunch;) Bread was not freshly baked, which should have been the case. The restaurant accommodated our last minute request for gluten and shell fish free menu, which was great!
Terrific staff and service
Excellent food. Very welcoming staff with great knowledge of the dishes they serve. Great location with very good ambience. Havw enjoyed every visit to date. Will definitely be returning in the near future.
Amazing food. Had the 6 course tasting meal. Faultless!the amuse bouche superb.
It was amazing especially the chocolate dessert 👌🏻
Great evening at Maribel. Just one niggle, as it got busier the service dropped off.
Simply stunning food which at moments showed moments of true culinary genius. A dish as simple as asparagus, pink grapefruit, and hazelnut, elevated to dizzying heights of flavour. Turbot that celebrated this wonderful fish, veal that was succulent and sweet, desserts that were dreamlike - and every course accompanied perfectly by expert wine choices. Fine dining at its best, by one of Birmingham's best chef's. The return of Richard Turner's Michelin star cannot be far away.
Excellent meal and service
Being lunchtime, very quiet, apparently very busy in evening. Food superb, canapés divine. Fish course of raw scallop one of best I have ever had. Main course of veal, beautifully cooked. Given quality, three courses (you can have more) and wine, excellent value at £70 per head. Downside is negotiating the pigs ear of Centenary Square from the city side, which is a building site. Well worth the effort Howe.
excellent food, great service and very pleasant surroundings. the staff is absolutely fantastic and knowledgeable about their menu and food served with good explanation of the dishes. will definitely be returning.
We had the six course menu on a Thursday lunchtime and every single course was exceptional. I don’t understand why the restaurant was so quiet !
Simply brilliant, no other words can describe it. the flavours, the quality and the menu has got everything.
Our lunch time visit was to celebrate my wife's birthday. We received wonderful service from two members of the Maribel Team who were very pleasant, courteous and extremely knowledgeable on the menu being presented. We chose the 6 course meal option and each course was presented with a full explanation of the dish. The wine list offered a good choice with my wife commenting that the Montrachet that she chose was in her opinion fabulous and a later wine that was suggested by Maribel met with the same description. A generous gesture of two complimentary drinks to celebrate my wife's birthday was more than appreciated. All in all our experience of Maribel was more than positive and we will certainly be returning.
We went to Maribel on a Friday night and had the four course tasting menu with wine pairings. Food was wonderful, wines worked really well - with a couple of unusual choices - and the team took great care of us. The restaurant was very quiet - don’t know if we were early or if it is busier in the week - and this is why I marked it down for ambience. Suited us just fine so didn’t spoil a really nice evening.
A real treat for a tuesday lunchtime. Four courses of delicious food served by attentive, professional staff.
The canapés were all quite different and constituted another course. Wasn't sure I would like Pig's Head but it was delicious.
Steamed turbot was delicate and the veal was perfectly pink and served with a superb hotpot of meat and potatoes.
Surprise sweets served after our rhubarb dessert were an excellent end to the meal.
The size of the portions seem small but ensured we were not over-full especially with adequate time between courses. Excellent overall.
Food outstanding, suite of wines very good and excellent value. Only negative was the length of time between some of the courses- up to 30 minutes for 2. We had the 6 course menu and early part of dining experience was slow. Last 2 courses were served more efficiently.
Overall excellent and once the above is sorted, would be my favourite place. Hope it gets a Michelin star as well deserved with the detail to the food.
Marabel is a restaurant which offers small exquisite courses, all interesting and beautifully presented. There is an unusual approach with a set number of starters, all delicious, and then a choice of 4, 6 or 8 courses. The restaurant easily provided menus which met my need for a non-meat meal as well as my partners. The fish courses
were wonderfulOur only complaint was that my partner’s veal course was rather tough. A small issue. We’ll be back
Went for my husbands birthday. It was a delightful evening, really nice to experience such beautiful food. Can’t wait to return!
