Simply stunning food which at moments showed moments of true culinary genius. A dish as simple as asparagus, pink grapefruit, and hazelnut, elevated to dizzying heights of flavour. Turbot that celebrated this wonderful fish, veal that was succulent and sweet, desserts that were dreamlike - and every course accompanied perfectly by expert wine choices. Fine dining at its best, by one of Birmingham's best chef's. The return of Richard Turner's Michelin star cannot be far away.
Excellent meal and service
Being lunchtime, very quiet, apparently very busy in evening. Food superb, canapés divine. Fish course of raw scallop one of best I have ever had. Main course of veal, beautifully cooked. Given quality, three courses (you can have more) and wine, excellent value at £70 per head. Downside is negotiating the pigs ear of Centenary Square from the city side, which is a building site. Well worth the effort Howe.
excellent food, great service and very pleasant surroundings. the staff is absolutely fantastic and knowledgeable about their menu and food served with good explanation of the dishes. will definitely be returning.
We had the six course menu on a Thursday lunchtime and every single course was exceptional. I don’t understand why the restaurant was so quiet !
Simply brilliant, no other words can describe it. the flavours, the quality and the menu has got everything.
Our lunch time visit was to celebrate my wife's birthday. We received wonderful service from two members of the Maribel Team who were very pleasant, courteous and extremely knowledgeable on the menu being presented. We chose the 6 course meal option and each course was presented with a full explanation of the dish. The wine list offered a good choice with my wife commenting that the Montrachet that she chose was in her opinion fabulous and a later wine that was suggested by Maribel met with the same description. A generous gesture of two complimentary drinks to celebrate my wife's birthday was more than appreciated. All in all our experience of Maribel was more than positive and we will certainly be returning.
We went to Maribel on a Friday night and had the four course tasting menu with wine pairings. Food was wonderful, wines worked really well - with a couple of unusual choices - and the team took great care of us. The restaurant was very quiet - don’t know if we were early or if it is busier in the week - and this is why I marked it down for ambience. Suited us just fine so didn’t spoil a really nice evening.
A real treat for a tuesday lunchtime. Four courses of delicious food served by attentive, professional staff.
The canapés were all quite different and constituted another course. Wasn't sure I would like Pig's Head but it was delicious.
Steamed turbot was delicate and the veal was perfectly pink and served with a superb hotpot of meat and potatoes.
Surprise sweets served after our rhubarb dessert were an excellent end to the meal.
The size of the portions seem small but ensured we were not over-full especially with adequate time between courses. Excellent overall.
Food outstanding, suite of wines very good and excellent value. Only negative was the length of time between some of the courses- up to 30 minutes for 2. We had the 6 course menu and early part of dining experience was slow. Last 2 courses were served more efficiently.
Overall excellent and once the above is sorted, would be my favourite place. Hope it gets a Michelin star as well deserved with the detail to the food.
Marabel is a restaurant which offers small exquisite courses, all interesting and beautifully presented. There is an unusual approach with a set number of starters, all delicious, and then a choice of 4, 6 or 8 courses. The restaurant easily provided menus which met my need for a non-meat meal as well as my partners. The fish courses
were wonderfulOur only complaint was that my partner’s veal course was rather tough. A small issue. We’ll be back
Went for my husbands birthday. It was a delightful evening, really nice to experience such beautiful food. Can’t wait to return!
We chose the 6 course with one guest taking the wine flight. Quality of cooking, presentation, taste & textures excellent. Wine pairings extremely good and also created interest. Service faultless. Overall as a food and wine experience it was wonderful. The only mark-down we gave was the ambience, almost too quiet if this is possible, but this was a minor point, in the important stuff Maribel exceeded expections - its not often I can say that!
We went to Maribel for a mid-week lunch and had the 6 course meal and wine flight. Both were exceptional and the team at Maribel’s make you feel truly welcome. We will be going back again soon.
The dining experience was second to none. The tasting menu was simply a pleasure.
Great evening. Interesting and varied food although not always to our tastes. My husband doesn't eat fish so the chef, who was informed in advance, was happy to provide alternatives. Service was excellent.
Raw Mackerel course was not enjoyable but the whole experience was good
Food was good but for over £90 still does not include a cup of coffee
A lot of food had to be eaten with fingers but only had finger bowel at the first course
Also at the end struggling to eat the dessert with spoon only
Delighted with our first trip to Maribel, lets hope not the last.
Loved it all, an absolute delight. Perfect food and excellent service.
Six course tasting menu lunch which was vegetarian given the different tastes of the four of us (one who loves fish, one who hates it, a no red meat man etc). We did not miss the meat or fish at all. Highlights included 4 canapes with a gruyere puff being memorable; chewy sourdough of just the right consistency; delicious dish of mushroom/truffle/runny egg/potato - much more than the sum of its parts; miniature doughnut to accompany the rice and Armagnac ice dessert. Attentive but not overdone service. Good choice of wine by bottle and glass. Would recommend Maribel to any foodie.
The only thing that disagreed with me was an onion risotto that lingered for nearly 24 hours, but I should'nt have eaten it knowing my inability to digest onions - I was greedy and it was a perfect consistency, all my own fault.
Lovely restaurant, quiet as we went at lunch on a very cold day.
8 course taster menu was superb. Asked sommelier for advice as I had 4 glasses of wine throughout.
Great service, very attentive, although it was quiet, so expected.
Maitre D very nice chap indeed. Friendly.
Cannot fault the food or the wine pairing.
If I had to pick a fault, the wife was a tad cold, wearing the thinnest blouse known to man and we were sat by the window. So the wife's fault.
Modern decor brings a nice lightness to the room. Could do with being a degree warmer. Excellent food and service. Attention to detail was spot on. Nice range of food on the menu. Had the 6 course dinner which for me was a bit much (quantity-wise) in addition to the lovely canapes. Regardless, it was a lovely dining experience and I would recommend it with no hesitation whatsoever
We had to cancel for two of our party but we were greeted warmly. The food from the 4 course tasting menu was amazing.
What a gem!
A lovely interment atmosphere it’s like being in a show home that servers up great wine and food!
This is definitely worth a cost for a special meal!
Be brave and let chef take you on a journey!
It’s was a lovely experience. The service was outstanding very attentive to our needs
Considering I spent £750 for 6 people I wasnt that impressed to be honest. The furniture and general fittings dont look special in actual fact it was very plain. The cutlery and glasses were very modern
Very hard to get in contact with the restaurant initially as left 3 voicemail messages and sent an email but no response, but part of that was winter shutdown which didn't realise and wasn't on answerphone message. Did manage to book meal fro when we wanted to celebrate our engagement and restaurant did go out of their way to accommodate us. There was a bit of a wait for appetisers and between some courses but some came in quick succession. Overall the food was excellent with intense flavours and unusual combinations, which worked really well and all very nicely presented. Service was excellent and we felt looked after. I went to Turners in Harborne previously and Richard is producing great menus again here. If you like a la carte style and Michelin star standard food then this is a must
Superb food quality such well combined food and wines will definitely be going back for the next new menu.
We went for our 7yr Wedding Anniversary and we were super impressed. The 8 course meal was incredible. Original and diverse menu - super tasty - and very well sized portions so the 8 course was manageable ! Lovely restaurant, great service and would highly recommend.
The food was amazing. The service was lacking ever so slightly. Dishes picked up despite people on the table still eating. Water not filled. These issues are tiny and I wouldn’t mention them ordinarily but a restaurant aiming for a Michelin star should have those things up to scratch.
Second time now at Maribel and it won’t be our last. This time we brought my partner’s parents who were visiting from Chicago and they were blown away. Just a fabulous meal.
Having read a review of this restaurant in the telegraph we thought we would see if it was as good as they said. The food was. It was beautiful to look at and tasted sublime. There was no rushing, it was a relaxed and enjoyable experience where our wine was poured for us at exactly the right time. There was theatre and faultless service and in truth the only fault I could find was the cost of the wine. I am happy to pay for the food knowing the hours spent to perfect each flavour but it would be nice to see wine that was a little more realistic in price. I would love to return but I will have my pre dinner drink elsewhere
Modern, imaginative and delightful cooking of the highest calibre coupled with perfect discrete but attentive service. One of my favourite Brum restaurants.
Another wonderful evening with delicious food and wine. Exemplary service. This restaurant is as good, if not better than any Michelin star establishment in Birmingham. Looking forward to our next visit.
Restaurant is open on a Monday night at Christmas time, although the website doesn’t say that. We were worried as they were not answering the phones, so We thought they were closed and nearly decided not to go. The tasting menu comes in 4 , 6, and 8 courses. The 6 course option is what we had and was Definafley adequate. We did struggle as you do get about 5 complimentary starters. If we had to find fault in this menu it was the first three courses came within two minutes of each other not nearly enough time to saver the taste or remember which course was which. This is Definafley a restaurant you would go to to for a special occasion. Expensive but food is exceptional and the staff extremely knowledgeable in all the dishes we were presented with
First visit and I doubt it will be the last. Excellent food on the 8 course taster menu. My only criticism is that the wine flight we chose had four sweet wines - not my favourite. The service was excellent. Recommended
The restaurant was almost empty on a chilly Friday evening just before Xmas and we had to complain several times before the temperature became vaguely acceptable for sitting and having a meal. There was no ambience other than very inappropriate Xmas music more suited to a shopping mall.We felt very rushed through the four course tasting meal. We ordered a classic flight of wines to go with the meal and were horrified to find one of the four was a nasty creamy cocktail. The starter was delicious but the main was a rather flavourless piece of mutton - underwhelming. I would not consider going again, very poor value for the huge price.
Great food, excellent wine what a shame the restaurant wasn’t full!
Would definitely recommend & will be back our only criticism was the room itself....lighting not great & the atmosphere not warm.
