Does not seem yo have the 'panache'of the old Chutney Mary, but food on a par and the service was certainly very good.
Enjoyable meal and service, quite pricey but a tasty thali meal. Will say both of us had very bad stomach aches that night and following morning and neither of us had anything particularly spicy. Seating of the tables are far too close together.
Fantastic service from the moment we arrived. Best Indian food in London, I want to try all the restaurants within the group now! Highly recommend this restaurant.
Masala Grill was definitely a lovely restaurant with very good service from the staff who were very attentive throughout and with a sense of humour. The decor is lovely, for a restaurant which is not too pricey. I would recommend this restaurants and would go back to visit myself.
Mediocre Indian which is priced higher than others but doesn't reach the heights for quality and taste.
Didnt like food
Feels like it's about to close as not that busy for a Saturday night as it was when it was Chutney Mary's & then you could not get a table but now poor.
Great as always the food ambience service. The panna cotta was the only flaw: made with a sweet artificial pineapple juice
Very good Indian food and beautiful setting. Would go again.
we are so happy to meet this restaurant, it was lovely night for all my family members, food and ambience was perfect but some of plate so expensive! We like there , and we will try again.
Good atmosphere. Really nice recreation of indian street food with a twist.
Atmosphere was very dull, with the room almost empty. However, noone to welcome us when we arrived!
Starters list a bit disappointing, main courses list is OK
Lamb curry was good, the cheese nan was dry
Will not come back...
Wonderful meal and service we wish we been informed that we would be the only diners that evening. Sitting as the only diners was not really the experience we were looking for.
lovely decor, amazing food, tasted fresh and interesting, menu had the right amount of choice, the dishes served looked small but they were more than enough, simply delicious!!
I love Indian food and have not only tried lots places in London (where we are very lucky to have loads of options) but also stuffed myself silly with some of the best Indian food in India itself many times. This place used to be home to the old Chutney Mary, now in Mayfair, and that is when I first came to this place. After the rebranding (and I understand under the same management), I was pleased that the incredible high quality of the food and service were unchanged.
The food is flawless marvellous rich yummy delicious, pretty much everything in the menu. Indian food always got lots of chicken based curries and tandooris. In this place, the chicken is always juicy. Nothing ruins a meal for me more than dry chicken - but here every chicken dish I had was always super juicy. Service is very attentive, a bit too formal at times. Ambiance is super nice, actually perfect for dates, especial occasions, celebrations, bringing foreign guests etc. So all this comes at a price because this is not the cheapest Indian, as one is paying for really great food, service and ambiance... which is very annoying for me as I live nearby and wish it was more casual and cheaper. Anyway, we can not help but go back when we want to sure to have excellent Indian. I had many dinners there with friends, son and also partner. I tried today for the first time the Sunday buffet lunch for £26 pp. Although I typically hate buffets, everything was freshly cooked, with good variety and the nan came to the table hot and fresh too. Again it is never that cheap but I always come out thinking it was totally worth it. I highly recommend it.
We always loved the old Chutney Mary and Masala Grill has fitted into its space perfectly with a smaller, more refined menu but still with some of the old favourites. Always a delicious meal and super evening.
Last came here when it was Chutney Mary. Nothing much has changed.
Black Dal is exquisite, as are the lamb chops.
Very nice and attentive staff, beautiful decor and great food for reasonable pricing especially in London.
The Masala Grille has sustainable and steady quality. This was a 2nd visit for one in our group of 2 and the memories of the staircase leading to the dining area immediately sparked a pleasant and friendly feeling. The food was wonderfully creative and served with aplomb. Ambience scores a solid "10" and the food doesn't miss the mark anywhere. Great for a date night or for a smaller group, the Masala Grille provides a memorable dinner experience.
Good ambience and food was nice . The Roti was not cooked enough . Would recommend otherwise
Outstanding value in every respect. Buffet was extensive and imaginative. Service was first class.
We had some guests over, so we decided to go to Masala Grill as it is such a unique experience and the food is always really tasty. We enjoyed all of our dishes from the Chicken and lamb starters to the Prawn Malabar and slow cooked lamb for mains. The staff here are very friendly and are quite good at leaving you to it. All in all a great night with fabulous food.
Nice ambiance - particularly under the "tent", nice and attentive staff, food was great
We loved every thing about Chutney Mary so visited here to see if it has the same offering.
The staff are extremely professional and courteous, the setting and ambience is still as it always was.
However, the two persons tables are now not around the side of the conservatory but arranged so one person is facing a wall. We are not so comfortable with this arrangement.
The food and menu are still adequate but we will take the extra journey to renew our old acquaintance in their new home and let you know how that fayres.
We recommend this Indian restaurant in Chelsea to others.
Our second visit in the space of 4 or 5 weeks, and it was just as pleasant as the first time. This time we came on a busy Saturday evening, which presumably was the cause of the service being a little slower. Thankfully we were not rushed and pushed to return our table by a certain time so it suited us. The food however was very good again (with 4 people this time we were able to try even more dishes) and our waitress Sapna was delightful and efficient. I recommend the virgin mojito.
My wife and I were always fans of Chutney Mary so were pleased to see that, although the restaurant has changed name, it has preserved many of its best features. In particular the ambience is as good as ever and the service exceptional. The food was delicious and we will certainly return.
We had a lovely meal at the Masala Grill. Understand it is the same owners as Chutney Mary which used to be located here but has apparently moved to the City. We choose it for the good reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious, original, very fresh and portions were generous without being too large. Service was prompt and friendly. The main dining room is beautifully decorated and there is a private dining room too. Highly suitable for family occasions as well as business dinners. Would love to go back any day.
Our first time here and really enjoyed it. Food is several rungs above your average suburban Indian restaurant. Staff are very friendly and efficient.
The service was good, with a nice decorations and lovely waiters and delicious food, everything was fine
Good food . Would recommend the thali and the bellinis
We had a lovely dinner at Masala Grill for a group of friends. The dishes were very tasty and portions were of an appropriate size. The restaurant is very well decorated and the ambience is nice. There weren't many people in the restaurant at the time of our booking which made it feel quite sparse but believe this wouldn't be the case at more populated times.
The special deal menu was very good and the service was very attentive. The only drawback is that the restaurant is in a very new building and is enormous, so until there are enough people in there it is lacking in atmosphere. Also, its a long way down the Kings Road, so unless you live in that part of London, its a bit of a trek.
we always went when it was chutney mary, this place is still very very good.
service is spot on !
We enjoyed the meal on Friday night at Masala Grill, sister restaurant to Chutney Mary's, now located in the west end. Menu had a good choice and the food and wine tasted lovely. Staff very friendly and helpful - Would go again................
Its an absolute must! You can't go wrong at Masala Grill...the service is impeccable and the food is delicious and not to mention the sublime cocktials! A great place to unwind and enjoy great food and drink. The decor is beautiful and the staff are very attentive.
Chutney Mary's replacement is a hit!
Thank you to Shri for making our evening so lovely...hope to see you again very soon!
The transition from Chutney Mary to Masala Grill has not, for me, worked. The dining area downstairs now seems even darker and gloomier than before, due to a massive dark wood partition running the full depth of the main restaurant. The decor is even more '70's than before.
The new menu is a lot more restricted that Chutney Mary's , according to my recollection, and it made it even harder to find non-spicy dishes for my teenage daughter. Although I stayed clear of all the curries, I still ended up with some very very highly spiced kebabs etc., which we did not enjoy.
Inevitably, the prices are about the same as before, meaning that, for me, there is less value on offer.
Attentive staff, relaxed friendly atmosphere make dining here a pleasure. But the food is the star of the show, beautifully cooked with subtle use of spices and well presented with generous portions.
There are lovely private dining rooms for special occasions and parking is quite easy and free after 1830 in nearby streets.
We were previously big fans of the Chutney Mary, which Masala Grill replaces. They managed to keep at very high quality. Same great ambience and service. Although I find it to be a bit on the pricey side. Still worth our monthly or bi-weekly visit, we are definitely frequent flyers in this restaurant.
