One of the few restaurants in Britain serving certified Kobe beef which was expensive but utterly wonderful. Other steaks very excellent as well and, for the quality, good value. It’s an American themed restaurant, it’s HUGE and good fun. However, it wasn’t particularly crowded when we went (Tuesday evening) so the atmosphere was a little underwhelming. Service was outstanding and even though it has a great wine list, also allows BYO at £30 a bottle. What’s not to like?!
Very good steakhouse with an interesting USP in providing regional types of meat, well-described and cooked. We shared three different types which worked very well. Sommelier made a very good recommendation for wine based on our preferences. Thoroughly enjoyable. Strangely quiet on a Saturday night which was a shame and not what the restaurant deserves.
Bonus: an excellent cocktail bar!
Definitely lives up to it's reputation as a great steakhouse!
Perfect choice for a pre-theatre meal, was booked for my mums 60th birthday.
We were looking for a good place for our last night in London. It turned out being a great choice. The price is more than reasonable for how visibly pleasing and delicious the food was. In addition, the staff was so attentive. There were a variety of couples and groups (younger couples without much dining experience, business dates, and anniversary dates) and from I was able to observe they were all treated and served with the same attention. While I chose not to go for the Wagyu beef, their choice of steaks was amazing. Would most definitely return.
Food, atmosphere and customer service excellent. Would thoroughly recommend.
Great food, great atmosphere and good services. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic dinner as always.
The Cote de beouf was a superb piece of meat
Just awesome we had the pre theatre menu.
Great value for money and the best Mac n Cheese I have ever had
The only reason I hesitated in recommending MASH as a lunch venue is that you would need to sleep off your meal if you did the menu justice! From the moment we arrived to the end of our visit the entire staff were amazing. From the lovely receptionist, the exceptionally helpful (and talented) bar tender to our lovely and patient waiter we were so well looked after that it made the whole experience even better. The food was amazing - we had booked the special offer as part of London Restaurant Week but the menu was SOOO tempting that only one of the three of us stayed on the special offer! We shared the oysters to start, then had three different steaks with half a dozen sides between us and although we really wanted to try the desserts we had no room! This is not the place to go if you are looking for a budget meal, but every penny spent here was worthwhile. The venue itself is very reminiscent of a cinema from the 1920s and is so beautifullly done that it has made want to research the history of the building. There is nothing not to love about this place.
We had been here before and really enjoyed it, but this time, it just wasn't quite as good. Despite there being plenty of tables free, we were put right next to another occupied table, and since the acoustics are poor, that meant we were listening to their conversation throughout dinner. My partner ordered a side for his steak, which they brought out with the starters so it was cold by the time the steak arrived, and even though he said when they delivered it, 'I wanted my side with my steak', they did nothing. His steak was half fat/gristle, and mine had to be sent back because it was under-cooked- and the waiter attempted to tell me that when you order a medium rare steak it is just normal to have the middle be verging on blue. When we got the bill, the waiters all vanished, so we had to get up and find someone to actually pay. The onion rings are still incredible, the wine list and the cocktails are both fantastic, my starter was lovely, and the steaks both tasted very good, but it feels like the place has gone downhill in their attention to detail. Still probably a good place for a business meal, or a dinner with the lads (there were several large groups of men who had probably come out after work, which didn't help with the noise level), but I would no longer recommend it for a date or a special evening.
Conveniently located for a pre/post theater dinner with a limited but fairly priced menu. NIce ambience and quiet for a good friendly catch up.
Really enjoyed our meal and the steak was fantastic. Definitely will return for another special night out.
From the entrance you are lead down an impressive stair case, opening up into an enormous under ground restaurant. Fabulous decoration, staff give a warm welcome.
Seating can be tables or booths, both comfy.
Wine and drink list extensive and good quality.
The food was very good, from burger & chips to full bream. Specially cooked a vegetarian dish as requested. Steak was tender and perfectly cooked.
Overall a wonderful experience. I would advise you check the prices before going, a little above average London cost, but worth it. Happy dinning xx
I had my family visiting from the United States and wanted to take them to a very nice final night dinner. As we sat down we felt warm but thought it might be the walk into the restaurant or the walk down two flights of stairs. The waiter service was fine, the food was OK, but we all began to perspire due to the high temperature of the Restuarant. I spoke to the waiter twice about it and he promised the manager was working on it. It never improved. Besides this discomfort, two out of four of the expensive steaks were served undercooked. As we finished saturated in perspiration, I received a bill for over 500£ in a envelope titled “The Damage”. I would have thought that was funny, if I didn’t feel so ripped off!
Delicious food, very professional waiters, nice atmosphere, correct prices
Possibly the best steak I have ever eaten and I have eaten at many top steakhouses all over the world
We booked the Pre theatre menu & had 3 courses for £25.
We shared charcuterie & Caesar salad to start followed by various tender steaks accompanied by chilli fries, mash & creamy spinach, delicious.
Desserts were pannacotta & cheesecake, a perfect ending.
Situated in an old theatre, the atmosphere & decor was enchanting. Live music on Wednesday evenings too :)
Delicious food, steaks were cooked perfectly and were exactly as our very attentive server Manuel described them. Loved the atmosphere, impressive place. We had a lovely meal with outstanding service. Thanks Manuel for taking such great care of us!
Food was absolutely amazing!! Best steak I have had and we regularly dine at gaucho, hawksmoor, Goodmans etc . Lovely selection of sides also. It was quite a pricey dinner date but worth every penny! We went on a Sun on a bank hop weekend and was not very busy or atmospheric but we didn’t mind as we were happy to be able to talk at ease between ourselves and food and service was so good nothing else was relevant!!
Food was great but the service poor and inattentive.
Excellent food, friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic French Quarter cocktails.
I took my BF here from his birthday. The place is really intimate; everyone is seated in their own separate booths so it’s perfect if you are conscious about people eavesdropping into your conversation.
I was a little disappointed with the food. The lobster tempura starter felt like a total rip off. Only 3 pieces of extremely small lobster deep fried and then they had the audacity to fill the plate with deep fried veggies to disguise the lack of lobster.
I got the Uruguay T-bone steak and it came cold. They didn’t trim the fat on the side. Forgettable experience.
The service was great though, staff seemed polite and helpful and they did bring out a birthday cake which was nice.
Overall it was OK. I don’t feel the quality of the food is worth the price tag.
Pre theatre dinner after a friend recommended the restaurant. Different entrance with there being a reception desk only at ground level, then the restaurant is down stairs. It all looks very stylish and art deco. Meat hangs on display as a show piece in glass cabinets. As we were short on time we wanted wine at the bar while we waited for our friends. The barman was clearly not interested in serving glasses of wine and was not too helpful in selecting a bottle from the very extensive wine list. Aside from that, the while experience was amazing and the food absolutely superb. It is expensive, but absolutely delicious! Would definitely like to visit again, and would certainly recommend it.
Armand, our waiter always provides excellent service and hospitality
Spectacular food in an incredibly atmospheric restaurant. The steak is tender and perfectly cooked and the desserts are superb. It is definitely worth it for a special occasion!
The food was great, but I would like to mention especially the freindly attitude for gluten free needs. Although there wasn’t a special gluten free Menu there was a lot of dishes as suitable options and it was clear that the waitress knew everything that was needed to know about the ingredients of the food, which dish is suitable and which not and was very carful and responsible about it. Realy great experience for someone who needs Gluten Free food.
When you enter the place, the first impression is like a WOW! Soft lights, old fashion furmitures, intimate abat-jours on the tables. Waiters and waitresses discrete and present at same time.
Wine list a bit expensive but full of choices.
The food is fresh, portions abundant and desserts just awesome.
I gave the 5 star on all points.
It’s a must go place.
Went here with a group of friends for a friends stag do dinner.
The steak was incredible, service was perfect. Definitely returning, and definitely recommended.
Unbelievebel wine list.
Verry friend waiters. And they knwo there job.
We took the pre theater menu. It’s a very good deal, and the food is very satisfying.
Been to Mash a number of times. Food and service always great. Only thing I feel as it is so big it lacks a bit of atmosphere. Will always return though as the best steaks.
Excellent service and staff. Most helpful with food and wine selection, without being intrusive.
Great service and the Maitre'd was very helpful.
The food was excellent; I started with the razor clam tartare, and it was delicious. The main meal of British rib-eye was perfectly cooked, succulent, and I never wanted it to end. Add to this, the great wine list and cocktails, and the dining experience was great.
There was also live music, which really added to the ambiance of the restaurant
Great deal with the pre theatre menu, good quality steaks and the service was attentive but not over bearing. The ambience and atmosphere was great with the live music, definitely would return.
Fabulous meal for a special occasion. Waiters were very attentive and knowledgeable about the food. Expensive, but worth it.
Very disappointing. I previously took 9 clients to this restaurant over Christmas and I couldn't fault the food or service.
This time was the complete opposite, I had a Rib-eye and 30% of this was pure fat. I know my steak and normally a Rib-eye has a marble of fat, but I don't expect to pay £39 for a piece of steak for a third of it to be inedible. I told and showed our waiter who didn't seem to care, I had to complain for the matradee to come to our table. Which he reduced my £39 steak to £18.
The service was what I would compare to a Harvester Restaurant, constant hovering around our table, we had staff clearing our table whilst we was still eating, leaning across our plates mid dining.
I am guessing as MASH offers a Pre Theater set menu they assume people who dine early evening are that type if clientele, but we wasn't.
Overall my partners food was lovely and the starters, sides and bottle of wine we couldn't fault.
Such a shame.
Lovely wine and steak! I recommend the red Zinfandel (cheapest bottle on the menu £30 but actually really lovely) Great pre theatre menu.
