Matchbox - Pentagon City
romaine, grana padano, garlic butter croutons
avocado, sweet corn, bacon, tomatoes, chopped egg, buttermilk dressing
pickles, toasted brioche, onion straws
Food was good but overpriced for pretty standard DC area American contemporary offerings. Drinks were very good but and decently priced and sized. But the waitstaff and service was lackluster. We were seated in a booth that had no working light. We asked to be moved and were told that they would ask the management to turn on the light above our table. Was never done so we ate in the semi-dark. Our server had to be asked several times for items and didn't seem to know how to manage the flow of our meal. They took our drink and appetizer order but then it took quite a while for it to come out and then the entrees came right on top of the appetizers. When finishing the meal, one member of our group asked for a to-go box 3 times before the box was brought out. It didn't seem as if they were interested in working tonight. This was the first time at a Matchbox for two people in the group and neither would recommend coming back based on this visit. It was a very mediocre experience especially for the service and the price.
Team building with the new team. Had not met a couple of them beyond phone calls and Skype. It was a great time to meet and be cordial with those we work with.
It was good as a meeting place, server was excellent
Business lunch was superb...much quieter than normal. Service was excellent and the food was well prepared. Will definitely use them again in the future.
Matchbox meat pizza hot and mostly fat, nothing good out of this pizza
The host give us a table that was dirty, she clean superficially and sit us, but table still sticky and dirty, the waitress finally clean up at our request
Not good restaurant, pizza disappointed me and the service too
Made reservations and asked for a balcony. Upon arrival the hostess told us the balcony was filled. Being that I was almost 20 minutes early I said we will wait, 10 minutes we were told the table was ready but when we went to the balcony there were only 2 people sitting there.
Very nice place to eat lunch; convenient to the Pentagon.
The food was delicious. I wish our server was more attentive - they weren't busy - he was hanging out with others. I watched someone at the hostess stand yell at a server for not using a tray when carrying a beer - wish management was more attentive to the more important things for customers.
I had a great time.
Great place for a great pizza wine and beer. More upscale than most
Goog good food ! Great service!
The service was extremely slow. The server could not hear us due to the music being too loud. Servers stood around while tables needed tended to. The manager walked around but never stopped at any table which is not normal for this location. One group was seated next to us but were not greeted by a server after ten minutes the group left.
The internet system went down so we either had to wait for it to be restored or go get cash. We opted to go get cash. There was no apology from anyone. The couple sitting near us were also very upset at the lack of service and lack of apology. If we did not have morals, we would have just walked out without paying.
The food and service was good, as always. Some of the food was a bit pricey for casual dining but given the rising cost of most meats and seafoods, it is understandable.
The service was terrible, there was a hair in my drink. We did not get plates for apps or our pizza. It was like the waitress was trained to ignore people.
Our waitress kept forgetting that she was to wait on us. We had our food but no drinks. We only were served 1 round of drinks and that was it. We kept having to ask her for refills to which she would forget. It wasn't until we said we were ready for the check did we get a refill. Must say worse server we have had in a long time.
Don't eat here. Go to another location.
The general manager maintains an environment that is unprofessional and that ultimately lowers the quality of food and service. Wait staff expected to wait, serve and bus tables in their sections.
Server was slow and the pasta wasn't good the salad great the bread was delicious however they have great pizza
The large booths are fantastic for a leisurely dinner with friends. Our party of four were seated near a window and had plenty of room for handbags, etc. the hostess was excellent and accommodating. The waiter was good, but not good at keeping water glasses full, clearing empty appetizer plates, etc. Martini’s were ordered, only to learn they were completely out of olives. Fig old fashioned’s were ordered instead, but they were out of figs as well. I could see figs being a challenge to keep in stock, but olives?? There is Harris Teeter within a short walk, where management could have easily bought a jar or two to tide them over until the regular shipment arrives. We ordered the spicy shrimp, which were fresh and flavorful, though they were brought with an inadequate amount of sauce and the dish pales in comparison to the bang bang shrimp at another chain. Pizza, which should have been the star on the menu lacked flavor and the crust tasted like thick cardboard. They could Lear a LOT from Puppatella. I want to like this place…it has an inviting vibe but the whole experience was just “meh”. There are too many better options in the area…I won’t be back.
The food was not good. The AC was working so well that the food became cold quickly. As a result, everything was tasteless . The service was fine.
Love the bartenders! They’re so attentive (and good looking)
I have eaten at this Matchbox location several times over the years. The service and food left much to be desired. First, there was confusion over the brunch deal. We had an expectant mother in our group with dietary restrictions who could not eat anything on the Bottomless Brunch. Apparently everyone at the table to eat the Bottomless Brunch regardless of dietary restrictions even though the other person was going to order separately. Honestly, our win. The business lost $35 pp plus the amount we were going to pay for bottomless mimosas.
When we inquired as to why and why it wasn't cited anywhere on the menu, then manager insinuated that we would steal food...that the person with the dietary restrictions would eat from the Bottomless Brunch. Yeah. This is exactly how you don't treat a group of hardworking women of color.
We ordered off the menu because we were beyond frustrated and hungry. We repeatedly had to ask for syrup for the chicken and waffles; it arrived more than 10 minutes after the actual entree. I ordered a cup of cream of crab that never appeared, yet appeared on my bill.
The experience was lacking. I won't be back.
The service was excellent and the food was delicious
They accommodated my entire family even with a short notice in a busy weekend
Everyone was nice and professional
We will be back!
Food was good and we had a great server! : ) I will hopefully be going back soon.
The meal was delicious and the service of the food was great
The hostess told me that my reservation was for 6:30pm, in which I produced 3 emails with confirmation for 6:45. I was then told that they were not accepting walk-ins and after 10 mins, they cancel the reservation if you are not present. I was not made aware of that ten minute time frame, as I arrived at 7:01 for my 6:45 appointment. I received an email 3 minutes before walking in with a “thank you” from open table for using my reservation which I hadn’t arrived for just yet. Me and my family were finally accommodated with a reservation for 7:40 pm. When we arrived for the second time, we were not greeted and the table we were shown was still dirty. Our server provided excellent service and the food and drinks were great. However, the front desk staff were less than inviting and accommodating.
Excellent service and food. It would help if the music would be turned a bit lower since its hard to have a business conversation.
A wonderful time was had by all. Love this location and the food was excellent
we waited about 1 hour and 15 min for our food. the waitress kept apologizing but indicate dit was a common problem with the kitchen
We have to come to Matchbox every time we are in the DC area. It's our favorite pizza. The staff was friendly and fast even with our crowd of 6 being a little overwhelming due to not having seen each other in over 18 months. The experience was all we have come to expect from Matchbox!
Had dinner there with friends. Beer list pretty good. Wine list good but they were out of all Chardonnay. Wife had a pizza kid had a pizza very good. Chimichurri steak is phenomenal. Too bad the staff isn’t more on their game early and get five stars. Pretty much have to make a big deal to get service. Still plan on going back
The food wasn’t that good it’s usually good but at the penn quarter location. Service was ok our server was new so I understand but she was really nice. We got bottomless brunch and the way it worked was extremely confusing and you pay $25 for bottomless mimosas but they charge you a penny for each glass after the first bottle which is weird if you already paid the base price
Nice restaurant- food was good. I did call ahead and ask for a birthday dessert for my mom’s birthday. Unfortunately, that did not happen.
Overall good experience good place to meet with friends
We live Matchbox. Like all restaurants they have been impacted by covid. Staffing is tough for them. Our waiter was very nice and helpful in spite of having difficult customers in her section. She did a great job!!!!!
Great food, Great service would definitely return
We loved the ambiance. Will come again. The waiter Cameron was fantastic. Took care of us and had even to give warm coffee and warm milk which I appreciated.
Father’s Day was the occasion, our server was lacking for sure, she had no apron on, her shirt wasn’t tucked in, she wasn’t attentive, she lacked a sense of urgency. The manager also was the same, we had to flag him down just to pay our check. He also wasn’t attentive.
Team Team meet and great
I will be back. My family and I totally enjoyed the food and the experience. We looking forward to trying their all day brunch.
