Matchbox - Potomac Mills
In the heart of Potomac Mills’ shopping mecca is our bright and airy dining destination, offering fuel for all-day shopping. Two levels of reclaimed timber, steel and stone finishes, each with its own fireplace mean there’s plenty of space for intimate dinners, large parties and get-togethers.
An ideal backdrop for sharing mini burgers, appetizers and mains, it’s a fun, casual gathering place, inside and out, with three fire pits on two outdoor patios. Warm, crackling fire from two wood-burning ovens keep the 8-seat pizza bar cozy yet open. Watch as bubbling, thin-crust pizzas make their debut.
Great food and service!
An energetic place that is bright and airy, good food and plenty of options. The entrees are a bit expensive but overall very good. I would love to visit a second time to try their all-you-can-eat brunch.
super slow service
We were celebrating my new job. The food, waitress and ambiance was great. As always my husband, our son and myself had a great time.
We ordered a few appetizers which was brought out one at a time 35 mins after sitting down. Another 45 mins later and our entrees arrived FOLLOWED by our salads, we had to track our server down for everything and it took him no less than 20 minutes to bring our check. We got 5 sodas 2 spinach dips 2 chicken sandwiches 2 pizzas and a fry and our bill was $150.00. SHOCKED was an understatement First and last time dining here
Surprisingly very good American fare food. Pizza was well made, and not overly cooked or burnt. Sliders were delicious. Service lacks...probably saw my waiter twice during our 1 1/2 visit.
Only been for lunch. Good food, love the pizza and variety of chicken sandwiches. Spacious and relatively quiet for this type restaurant.
Good place to eat a bit loud though. Service was great. Place ran out of ribs though, the reason I came.
Awesome service, delicious food, brunch was so tasty
Everything we ordered was delicious, but except for the kid’s meal (Captain Healthy is an array of vegetables, fruit, cheese and peanut butter — a great idea!), the food was overpriced.
This is the 3rd time we have been back to Matchbox since the majority of servers called out sick one Friday. Seems like management issues that need to be looked into. Each time service is getting worse. My drink should never be empty and it shouldn’t take 25 minutes to get the check. We should not see the server at the beginning and end and have to chase around others to get service. We love the pizza but may have to start going to other places due to bad service.
Music was stupid loud like a club. At least it was good but we couldn’t have a conversation. Food and service brings customers, not music. Play it outside like Bahama Breeze. Focus on quality and service. Should be common sense for any establishment.
Hopefully the manager comps our bill like she said she would. Otherwise, we will never be back and will not be sad when a good restaurant takes over this location.
Overall, a wonderful experience! Our hostess remembered us for a week or so ago, and she greeted us with an enthusiastic “Welcome Back!” Then our waitress was super nice and friendly. Best part was the food: I ordered a fig & prosciutto pizza and it was soooo good that I nearly finished the entire pie myself!!
MArie was fantastic!
We enjoyed the service, the staff, and the atmosphere. Thanks again for allowing my family to have the wonderful time that was spent in your place if business. We will be back.
We had a 50th anniversary brunch with 28 family members. It was really a last minute idea and the management was super flexible and worked it out for us to be seated together.
The waitress was very attentive and took extremely good care of our party.
The food was well prepared, fast and seasoned nicely.
Great time- was a beautiful day to sit out on the patio and enjoy lunch and a drink. Great service and good!
Food was good and service was great! We really enjoyed the coffe & donuts for dessert - perfect dessert to share with the table.
Food pretty good, but service slow all the way around; had to keep asking for water, food orders.
I’ve never been one to complain or write a bad review HOWEVER, I was extremely disappointed with the lack of service that we received at this Matchbox location last night. When we arrived the Hostess accommodated my request for a booth and seated us right away. That was the only positive thing. The table where we were seated was so STICKY and gross. Then, we sat for “at least” 20 minutes without service. I finally got the attention of a waiter that had been taking care of a table next to us and he said he would find out who our server was and asked for our drink order in the meantime. Still nothing until I heard him ask and describe to the busboy to get us our drinks. Another 5 minutes or so passed and we still didn’t know who our server was and still didn’t have drinks. A manager never came by and offer an apology or anything (which should be normal practice). We had our toddler with us and he was very thirsty and hungry and this was completely UNACCEPTABLE. Thank goodness for the Outback across the street that gets 20 stars from me for seating us and getting my little one taken care of right away! They were the saviors last night.
I’ve worked in restaurants before and have dined out so many times in my lifetime and not once have I ever had something like this happen.
service was great but the food was just fair; cold fries with sandwich and pasta with chicken that was meh. I should have stuck with the pizza like I normally do here.
This was my first time dining at Matchbox and it was a pleasant experience. The environment is very laid back and chill. The salmon was perfectly cooked although it was a bit salty. The french fries were perfect, not greasy which I loved. The star menu item for me was the salad. The simplest salad ever but the balsamic vinaigrette was aaaammmmazing! Our server was so sweet and attentive. Thanks for a great first impression!
So happy you enjoyed your experience, hope to see you back soon!
Went to Matchbox to try their weekend brunch. It was my first time going to this restaurant so had no idea what I would be in for. At $30 it was expensive but okay. You basically can order up to 3 things at a tome off their menu and aside from their pizzas they all come as small plates but you can order as often as you want so it wasn’t bad. While there are other breakfast or brunch places out there that are better this offers a good alternative when looking to change things up.
Had to send our mix drinks they did not taste good the Danes drinks we have every Friday so we know a good one. The other thing about the drinks both were light compared to what we get each Friday. We talked to the manager about it and she said they were new people in the bar.
So happy you enjoyed your experience, hope to see you back soon!
Unfortunately Matchbox missed the mark with their Brunchbox, unlimited brunch small plates. For $28.50 per person I expected to get a non-alcoholic beverage but no beverage was included.
We had a reservation and were seated immediately and that's where the good service ended. Our server was very visibly overwhelmed and mentioned that we should order several rounds of food at once because the kitchen was "backed up". This was an accurate statement because we waited quite some time for our food and for refills on our water. When the food did come out it was obvious the kitchen was just trying to get something on the table because the quality was not the same level I have had previously at Matchbox. There were several dishes we were very excited about that just weren't quite right. You could tell they tried but were just having a hard time keeping up. I realize that having unlimited small plates is a huge undertaking and they either needed more staff or more efficiency to pull it off well. Good try Matchbox. I hope you work out the kinks because we will try again.
Tried the new small plates brunch menu with family and friends visiting from out of state. Service was outstanding, and the variety of menu items everyone tried were all very good - have some new favorites to try on next visits. All very good value including the special price brunch mimosas.
The service was horrible we did not get menus when we sat down. We ordered our food but did not get it for 3 hours. Then one of the managers came and said we have this tables food that left and offered it to us. Appalling to say the least GM that was standing around did nothing!
I have never been so excited about eating food "ever," the food was to die for. As I said to the manager, "I died and went to Heaven." Our server was fabulous she was the best ,the Brunch was above and beyond our expectations. Keep doing what you are doing we will recommend several of our relatives and friends to go and eat there.
So happy you enjoyed your experience, hope to see you back soon!
I went the first weekend they were doing the endless brunch plates. The food was decent but not great. I wouldn’t go back for brunch again, but would be willing to try their dinner. The service was great. They were extremely attentive and friendly.
Good comfort food, seafood, burgets, pizzas. Excellent lump crabcakes, no filler. Server took a while to come to the table, hard to find for tea refills, and to take care of my bill. She was pleasant, but other servers were much more visible and harder-working.
Excellent and innovative Saturday AND Sunday brunch...will definitely go again.
They had no pesto in the whole Restaurant and failed to make that known until we questioned our margarita pizza not having it. Would have definitely changed our order.
Drinks (one beer, one berry splash) took 20 min to come out, they weren’t that busy.
Sliders were supposed to be mid rare, definitely at a well done, no pink.
Table was sticky and covered in grime, needs a good degreasing.
Great food and service, Matchbox doesn’t disappoint.
Server was amazing. Food was great. Overall made a great night.
I use to love Matchbox . It was a nice menu with a professional, friendly dedicated staff. The food was well priced and you always left the restaurant feeling you can not wait to come back to try something different on the menu.
Tonight l had dinner with a friend at the Woodbridge location. The whole experience was sad. Upon entering the restaurant we where immediately seated. Great. The staff quickly engaged us. My guest asked a question about two dishes. The staff member stated she had not tried the meal and had no idea how the crab cakes are cook.
We placed the orders. It took over 40 min to bring out the order.
My guest food has to be returned. Brazen beef was not tender. She could not cut the meat. Note she also order a nonacholic drink and they sent a drink that had alcohol.
Back to the food:
As for me, I took a chance on the crab cakes. Bad move on my part 28.00 for a trader Joe level meal.
Frozen french fry, packaged coleslaw, burn lemon and crab nuggets. Just unreal. See attached photos.
Profit over quality produce.
So we tried to give them a chance to make it right. The manager came over and gave very kind and professioanl apology.
Once he hit the floor we could see the pace on the picked up.
We then order desert.
See photo. Hot mess.
Sad . The manager comp my guest desert.
They need to get the staff in gear and protect the brand.
So sorry to see this place. Maybe that same manager will be driving force to get it on track.
I wish them the best. But I have to step back for while.
Great waiter and all!!!
Service was terribly slow even though the place wasnt busy on father's day evening. The Floors are dirty and covered with a dull grease all over. The separator between the booths was coated with dust. Server was very slow and made several mistakes. We waited a while for our first drinks. My party of 4 ordered 3 meals, and i decided to wait as i didnt see much i liked. Meals took an average amount of time to come, but server never checked back to see what i wanted (i still had menu and was waiting to ask for a straw, mixed drinks with crush lime and mint always need a straw) Finally we asked a random waitress for a straw who had to go get one (carry in apron is the best way) Once food arrived, they didnt know who ordered what of course. Finally when our server checked, i ordered a green salad, he said it came with field greens, i asked for romaine. He said Caesar, i said not Caesar dressing since i am vegetarian, just make me a green salad with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc, any veggie fine. He asked if i wanted cheese I said sure we also ordered a refill of drinks. Server came back with an unordered refill of beer that had just came 2 minutes after another full one delivered. But no drink for me. No salad for me. My party finished their entire meal, still no salad, so we asked our server to box up. He agreed. 10 minutes later my salad arrived no box, being announced as Caesar, and the girl said i guess its not Caesar dressing, which again has anchovies so not ok for me. Finally she boxed it up, but it had no veggies, no tomatoes, no cheese, only random shaved carrots on the side in a little plastic container. Mom ate shrimp and grits and didnt like the taste, cousin hated her white sangria and didnt drink any. She got spaghetti and meal ball, the meatball was under or over cooked, couldnt tell, was a gray color. Fries were soggy and limp, only the ribs were good. Very bad overall experience and the price was outrageously high. Very embarrassing Father's Day
What made our Father'd Day visit special was our wonderful server Anna. She was so very gracious and timely that we had a most wonderful visit. She recommended to me the 8 oz Filet Mignon instead of the 6 oz filet and it was PERFECT! Not known around here as a steakhouse, this Matchbox location is a real hidden gem. Ask for the gorgeous Anna or the wonderful Kat and you will have a great visit! I am going to be a regular at this restaurant!
Thanks for the rating!!! Looking forward to seeing you again soon!
Don't bother with making reservations via open table, matchbox woodbridge will seat you in queue as you walk in the door, regardless of reservations.
food was great ,great service so friendly will be back very soon
