We should have checked the menu before booking. Nothing we really liked in regards to choosing an Entree or Main dish.
Lunch Menu the same as Dinner so we couldn’t have lunch either.
Disappointing as we would have liked to have lunch and dinner at the resort rather than driving anywhere.
The desserts were amazing.
This of course is our personal opinion based on what we prefer to each.
This evening we had again booked to be in the restaurant, but as there was a wedding in the main restaurant, we were seated in the area outside the restaurant. My friend saw a pizza coming out of the kitchen and asked if she could have pizza for dinner, even though it wasn't on the restaurant menu. We were advised that, if we wanted pizza, we had to move to the bar area, where we were required to sit on high stools at long communal tables. So we moved to the bar area, only to discover that, if we sat there, I was unable to have the restaurant menu. I am coeliac, but they told me they had gluten free pizza bases. So I had to have pizza as there was nothing else on the menu in the bar. It was another disappointing evening
The team was fantastic and went out of their way to help
Food was great and the bar staff informative
The winery team helped us and great commentary on the wines
The venue easy to get to and grounds clean neat and well designed
Thankyou
Dinner, breakfast and drinkies were all super dooper
We had booked dinner using a package that included a three course dinner. However the choices were limited and there were only 2 gluten free items on the main course menu. The waiters themselves were lovely, but there was a great deal of confusion about the dinner voucher and the main courses were very short on vegetables and there were no side dishes of extra vegetables you could order.
The service was OK. All the waiters were male and young, still in training.
The food was dreadful. We were forced to buy a two course meal, which we never do.
For dinner I had lamb - my partner tried some and my said it was tough like it was three weeks' old. The whole meal tasted bitter so I my partner shared some of his meal.
The sticky date pudding with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel syrup was delicious. I NEVER eat dessert, but I had room for some after not eating much of the main meal. I don't think their chef made any of the dessert.
I purchased two $15 vouchers online for breakfast, which I expected to be a continental breakfast. Instead, it was food off a menu, most of which cost more than the $15 voucher, so we had to pay extra for the difference.
We both had bacon, which was also dry and seriously overcooked and leathery, like it was left to sit out on a windowsill for the day.
Overall, we both agreed we were not interested to ever eat there again and would not recommend it to anyone.
The service was very poor, orders got forgotten and staff didn’t necessarily know what they were doing
Like the rest of our Hunter Valley resort experience, deeply disappointing. No food allergies, yet we had difficulty finding anything we liked in the menu. Average bottle of red was charged as if premium.
Birthday dinner
The food was really nice, but unfortunately the atmosphere and décor was a bit disappointing. We ordered the braised beef cheeks and the Lamb as mains, and they were delicious! Our children had a bowl of chips and the sticky chilli & cola glazed chicken, these were also really good! The food came out very quickly too. What lets this place down is the dated and run down décor in the rear of the building (they don't show this part in any of the photos) brown, lumpy carpets, white table cloths thrown over plastic fold-up tables, white canvas/tarp sagging from the ceiling between the rafters - really doesn't make for an enjoyable dining experience. It was raining so perhaps sitting outside on a nice sunny day might be nicer! Unfortunately the service also wasn't great, we waited for so long to be seated that my husband had to ask someone working behind the bar. However it may have been a case of being short staffed, I'm not sure. And perhaps ditch the weird plastic food containers with the red & white gingham paper that the food comes out in? Not a great look. For a tad more class I would suggest perhaps going to K-Mart and getting some nice white plates or something to serve the food on.
Waited 45 min, for our drinks another 15 on top for food. No table cloth. Omelette was amazing but we asked for extra mushrooms and bacon, mushrooms were inedible and bacon was cardboard. And they weren’t even flat out.
Food was decent, average price. Staff were friendly. Overall pleasant experience.
The entree’s were like main meals in size which made us feel really bloated by the time we had our second course. Our main meals had a very overpowering olive flavor which dominated the dish and after waiting a really long time for a glass of wine which I ordered when the main meal was served to the point where I stopped eating to wait for the wine to accompany my meal, eventually realizing that the glass of wine had been forgotten & was never going to come, my husband had to get up & go to the bar to remind them of the wine hat had been ordered. Not great!
Great food, the service was great. We really enjoyed our dinner here and the servers were lovely.
Lacked atmosphere that I've experienced at other breweries. Food was good as were the cocktails. Bathrooms were in a terrible state, they looked like they hadn't been serviced for a while, bins were overflowing, paper towels all over the floor, empty toilet paper, dirty toilets, gross!
Lovely day and atmosphere very noisy service was great
Initially, our booked table was given to someone else so we had to wait outside while they found us a new table.
Very crowded in bar area, people very close together.
Lots of young wine tour groups, the group near us were breaking glasses on purpose.
Friendly service , need a better variety of breakfast selection maybe add in hash browns and pancakes
First time to dine at Mathilda Bay Brewhouse and the first impression really last. Friendly staff, great food and great place. Highly recommended.
Service was amazing, food was beautiful and the decor was interesting.
Good food, good location, outstanding service, nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, the sight of a small field mouse ruined our night as it was a special occasion.
Did not end up eating at this place as they had a power outage in the late afternoon and power back on at 7.30pm. They rang me at 5.30pm to say they were only doing pizzas and asked if ok, which i said it was. I arrived at 7.00pm and basically got turned away. They really didnt know what they were doing and should have closed the restaurant. We ended up driving to Harrigans pub and had a great meal. Must say very unorganized and a poor experience.
Not a great experience...
A blackout meant that the place was in darkness and the only thing on offer was pizzas, which were not enjoyable. Beer was unable to be served due to the blackout, but the glass of wine I had was also poor, as if the bottle had been opened for a long time.
It was shame that young inexperienced staff were left to deal with a difficult circumstance on a Friday night, before the Midnight Oil concert.
Very friendly and helpful staff, delicious food, reasonably priced.
Great food and service
Especially from
Victor
My wife and I enjoyed the Matilda Bay Brewhouse and the 3 course dinner. It’s quite a nice restaurant and the staff are very friendly. The food was excellent and the value for money was great. When back in the Hunter Valley, I’m sure we will dine here again.
The food was delicious but a few more choices would be a smart move. The waiter Vincent was very professional,
We had a beautiful day and friendly staff. Ordering at the bar was a little disorganised. Seemed like a few staff members all doing something but not really organised or working together. Food was delicious and served before expected. Grounds were nice with tables cleaned and empty glasses being collected regularly.
The meals were quite substancial and of exellent quality
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed dining at Matilda Bay Brewhouse. The menu wasn't big but we were happy with our selection and the servings were quite large. Our dinner meals were nicely cooked and served in good time. Breakfasts were also good. Service was good and the wait staff were friendly. The restaurant is a little dated but clean and tidy.
Our meals were amazing, staff were very attentive. Great place
The staff were all lovely and accommodating.
The food was delicious and generous (though the mousse for dessert was too sweet for our tastes!).
The beer tasting was fun and enjoyable.
Ambience was a little lacking (may have been because it was a Sunday night) and the style of the venue was a little more dated than I was anticipating, but it didn’t retract from the quality of service provided.
Food was passable, but nothing more and was especially expensive for what it was, for example $30 for a big breakfast which felt like something anyone could cook at home from their kitchen. We attended for breakfast and were very disappointed. The ambiance was depressing (e.g. the restaurant is aging and old, the music was dull). We stayed at the Hunter Valley resort, so went there for breakfast as it was attached to the resort. Save yourself the disappointment and go somewhere else for breakfast.
food was excellent, service was a little lacking on attentiveness but staff were otherwise very nice. Victor in particular was very helpful and lovely!
Was only option of a two course meal rather than one which was a little odd but the food was worth it though! my partner and I split a starter and a dessert to get the best of everything!
ambience/setting was simple but noting bad per say.
Great people, great service, nice setting and the food was absolutely delicious. So much flavour in every meal we had. We'll be back.
No complaints from our table of 7 regarding the food we had for lunch - empty plates all round.
Lovely place, great food and staff. Definitely will recommend.
The food was amazing, we had the sticky chicken strips and pumpkin tart for starters which were just next level good, and then the gnocchi and pork sirloin for mains and they were really tasty. The service was quick efficient and super friendly ...all round good experience.
Beers were great, ordering system needs to be improved, especially since ordering using your phone without contact is still being well used here.
It's hard to customise your meal there is no alternative options my girlfriend could not remove mushrooms and capsicum from her meal so she didn't enjoy it but I enjoyed my meal.
Other than that it was great
The restaurant was perfect for our small family celebration. Seating outside us perfect t for a relaxed atmosphere
