Older restaurant but could not have asked for better or more friendly service. Food was excellent. Our nee go to restaurant when going to SFO.
Great new beginning with the shutdown that was, keep up the good work
We came early for lunch as we had to get friends to the airport. Wonderful sandwiches. As a;ways both the corned beef and pastrami were delicious. Staff was friendly and efficient. Of course we will come again when in the area.
Wish they would re-open another location further south on the Pernninsula.
Food was excellent but the place needs an overhaul. Looks dirty and old. The service was terrible. Very slow.
LOVE love love the chicken matzo ball soup. I’d go back just for that soup.
My husband always orders the pastrami in rye and it never disappoints. Good food and not too expensive.
I booked a reservation for dine in but was sat outside even though I was the only patron. If was very cold and windy even with my down jacket. When food arrived, it got cold within minutes! They didn’t turn the gas outdoor heater on for me. I didn’t really get to enjoy my food. Out of frustration, I asked for a box and took it back to my hotel. For the first time in many of my visits to Max’s, I was truly disappointed.
nice time!
I met a friend for lunch, in the time of Covid it can be stressful! Tables were spaced and safely distant, staff were masked and distant. Food was delish as usual!
Been eating at the various Max's for 25+ yrs. The service here is outstanding and the pandemic precautions were fine. The food wasn't bad, or just wasn't _Max's_. The truncated menu doesn't have all of your old favorites. None of us finished our meal, and none of us even finished our dessert. We took home the leftovers and gave them to the person who eats anything. I mean, it was Denny's-fine, but it wasn't worth the inflated airport/ Max's price. Next time we'll go to get take-out at Baldie's, Mel's or even the deli at Drager's and just eat at home.
Fajitas served in a pool of oil on an oval skillet. Quantity and quality of fajitas left much to be desired. Side dishes were great, but disappointed with the half cooked/cracked corn tortillas. Server did not provide much service. Had to search for them to take our order and provide the check. Only came out once to deliver food, but never to refill drinks or see if we needed anything else.
I used to visit Max's in San Ramon and their sandwiches were great. I did appreciate the option to at outside.
Great menu selection! Delicious burger and pastrami sandwiches! Very attentive service and accommodating.
Brought me and my friends here, despite being young we were treated with the same respectful service and the food was AMAZING. Definitely would come back here in the future.
Delicious food at a reasonable price. Our group enjoyed eating outside; however, a side enclosure would help minimize wind problem (napkins flying)
I never received my Open Table Points so I’m not happy. Food is overpriced and the food quality is poor. Service was very slow but the waiter was nice
Indoor dining allowed @ this pandemic season now , here for lunch date with hubby , food are good big servings for us had them to go for left over. Was Monday & few people indoors . Waiters are attentive & nice . I have no bad comment on the food here our second time , first was yrs ago on Father's Day. They have happy hour @ 4pm but we're way too early so we didn't get discount on our good mango margzrita ordered. Love the quiet place & nice resto indoors.
We celebrated our anniversary at Max’s. Food was excellent and outdoor dining was lovely.
They are doing the best they can under the COVID restrictions and I really appreciate that. We sat at a table and our server was James who is usually the bartender. He did a great job and made all of us feel very welcome. Love the food. Can't wait for eating inside to return!
A good choice in this era of Outdoor Only dining.
We thought about dining at locally owned businesses that had been around the longest. Max’s fit the bill. Or so we thought. We learned Max’s is no longer owned by local restauranteur Dennis Berkowitz, but instead it is now a franchise. They have increased their prices- a plain hamburger is $18.99 without so much as a slice of tomato or lettuce as garnish. As we are both seniors we planned to split the burger and order some extra sides. We asked if they could cut the burger in half in the kitchen. The server informed us that cut would cost us $3.99 additional. This was not a split plate... but a one second knife move.
We declined but were really shocked to learn how ungracious new franchisee is running formerly beloved standard for local dining. We sat outside in a tent erected in the parking lot with bare bones table and freeway noise.
The burger upon arrival was poor quality and overcooked. The extra side of Cole slaw was generous and delicious. The sweet potato fries we paid extra for ( $3.99 extra)
as an upgrade from regular fries included were very ordinary and cold.
We asked server if we could speak with manager who arrived at conclusion of meal and had nothing nice to say.
He said we are a franchise now and Sean Hassan likes it done this way. The manager and servers will be punished if caught doing things for the customer.
This was the restaurant where every birthday and life occasion was celebrated. A bar where many friends met up for first dates. All those feelings were put to rest .
It isn’t that vibe anymore.
Wish the new owner good luck.
I will for sure miss the old Max’s. It was wonderful always! From the generosity in the restaurant, to the Berkowitz Family unwavering contributions to their community.
Clean, great food and nice space. My family enjoyed it very much. Great place to celebrate birthday.
Great food, very friendly and prompt service, highly recommend!
Excellent food, bar beverages and service - even during Covid-19. There is a great back patio - comfortable and covered in case it gets breezy or cool. Love this place!
Max’s did a great job with offering socially distant dining that was fresh, healthy, and served with courtesy. We felt safe and loved the food.
Everything was average. Service below average. Will not return.
Covid in restaurant dining was actually pretty nice. Not crowded at all and the service seemed more responsive than usual!
Seating distanced. Both outside and inside offered now.
Very cute diner feel. Food was very good and so was the service.
We were there on their first night opening after COVID closure. The service was great and we all enjoyed our burgers
Great Food and Fabulous Service! Our waitress was "new"but you would never have known it - she was awesome.
Nice, casual spot for good, solid meal. Prices have gone up a little.
I had no idea that is wasn't a the same level as Max's Opera Cafe. The pastrami sandwich looked like it came from Denny's. The red snapper special was good but the salads were not even close to the ones at Opera Cafe.
Staying near SFO before an early morning flight means dinner at Max’s. Josefina provided attentive service and assistance in deciding on a microbrew. The reasonable prices, ample portions, personalized service, and quality food will keep me coming back!
Thank you for the review. We appreciate you coming in and look forward to serving you again!
Wonderful evening celebrating my daughter’s 50th birthday with family and friends. Food was delicious, wait staff was superb. Max’s never disappoints!
Thank you for the great review! We also have a private room for larger celebrations. Hope to see you again and continue making memories at Max's of Burlingame!
It was a friendship dinner we loved sitting in the bar area. Piano music just added more fun to the night. Our sweet server was so accommodating and everything was perfect. We plan on having dinner together once a month with this group and will be back to Max’s. Also, great bartender. We’ve been coming to Max’s for years but kind of forgot about it. The food has improved!
Nice surprise!
We went here as a recommendation and was very happy with the food and service.. we actually went a second time and I enjoyed my meal better the second time.. the jalapeño slaw was amazing..,
Late night dining still has attentive service and consistently good food.
Great place with a wide variety of selections to satisfy everyone.
Great food especially the Matzoh Ball soup! Enjoyed the Brussels sprouts appetizer and the pretzel!
