After being sat down i had realised that i had forgotten to tell the staff that it was boyfriend's birthday. When he snuck to the bathroom i mentioned it to the lady watresss and she instantly got all the staff together and present him with a Brownie and Sparked and song! As it was so last minute I was so happy with the service!
The staff were lovely! Food was great. We didn't have to wait long at all and tasted great and i highly reccomend the cocktails!

I preferred maxwells at its old venue in covent garden. I think the menu was minimal in choice and the dessert menu even more so, food was expensive and the area very cramped, unfortunately we wont be using maxwells again.

Ordered macaroni cheese and it was cold, no one came back to the table to check it our food was okay until after we had finished. Drinks did not come until half way through our food as they forgot to put it through, I mean there were only two of us so not that hard to remember. Also adding service charge automatically for only 2 people is wrong, especially after the service was poor.

Disappointed main Convent Garden Maxwells closed. This Maxwells is smaller and felt cramped. Food was not hot. Would not fault service though.

Service was very slow and we had to ask the waiter several times for some things!!! Such a shame as I’ve visited Maxwells before when it was at its previous location however I feel the service has gone down hill since then!!!

This was our first visit since Maxwells had changed venue and I was impressed. I had noted on opentable when I booked that we were celebrating a birthday...the staff had arranged for balloons on the table and brought out a lovely dessert for pudding - staff were friendly and food was good as always (nachos are highly recommended!)

We really loved the food and what was on offer at Maxwell's! We wish we had enough time to try one of their freak shakes as they looked amazing!! A great place to eat with quick service if you're wanting to grab a bite before going to the theatre. The customer service was fair, a language barrier at the bar and the staff when arriving wasn't massively friendly but wasn't bad! Some would say a great mix- helpful but not in your face or overly smiley.

More vegan than vegetarian options - that could be good or bad depending on what you’re looking for. Menu is fairly standard American diner food. Anything we ordered was good and the service was with a smile which is always nice.

Great family lunch with huge portions. Service was exemplary. Covent Garden premium on pricing was not too bad given the quality (and portion sizes). We'll be going again.

We were pleased to attain a seat at Maxwell's what with Gay Pride and England v Sweden going on and these things helped in creating a positive ambience. Food was excellent and served in a timely fashion allowing us to depart for our theatre booking right as planned. Staff were attentive and the experience was enjoyable overall

I think this will be our last visit to Maxwells ! We have eaten numerous times at the former Covent Garden address (James Street) and have always been a large party of 6 or more.
The ambience at the old site was far better than at the new location (King Street).
We had booked a table on Saturday and although we were early they were able to accommodate us, however after just shy of 2 hours we were asked to hurry up as the table was required - this was at the point when they had just served the dessert which we took down to the bar area to finish.
Our children who have been the prime reason for our previous love affair with Maxwells was down to the combination of the James Street site and the staff and a lack of harassment over the dining time.
On this occasion it took 45 mins from entry to the starters being served.
Sad !

The service was faultless, our waiter, Luciano, very friendly and attentive to our needs. As usual the food was great and the ambience of the new location is in many ways an improvement. I work in Covent Garden and regularly recommend Maxwells. Hope they keep up their standards.

Expensive for diner style food but worth every penny! The meat was all cooked to perfection, perfectly marinated & tasty! Real feel good food with an American twist. The freak shakes are AMAZING!

Great table service, we had 2 adults & 2 young teenagers (11 and 12) and it was perfect. Would also be great to catch up with friends - the alcohol selection is IMMENSE!

Would definitely recommend!

Visited maxwells 19 th June for husband birthday. Booked 3 months prior. Waited ages for our food my husband asked for just onion and tomato in his burger well done. When it came it came with mayo I told them nothing else just onion and tomato!!!! He took it back by this time we had all eaten our starters. When burger arrived again it was raw in the middle .... so my husband couldn’t eat it .... we didn’t have time to eat desert as we waited so long for our mains.manager did not charge for husbands food . He also did not ask if I would like to pay gratuity.... the food and service was poor and my husbands birthday ruined .

Our waiter was a good chap!
It was my birthday- my husband had requested a candle in my pudding- it would have been easier to put a candle in my own dessert rather than make a special one (we all had our own desserts so no one could eat the extra one- wasteful). This was a bit of a mess actually! Poor organisation

The only think was that there was way too much BBQ sauce on both the chicken wings and the ribs.

Maybe the most expensive bad food I have ever paid for. The recent negative reviews are all true! Two of my family members had T Bone Steak and said it was the worst steak they've ever eaten. Not only was it luke walk and had such a lack of flavor from the meat itself, they did not even season it! The mash potato was just as bad..literally tasted like a mashed potato, felt like there was absolutely no seasoning. They didn't even finish their meals. How can a steak be over £20 but have such little flavour. I ordered a bacon double burger..again this was so underwhelming. The worst burger I've had and the most I've spent on a burger before. The meat was just dry and flavourless. The only thing I liked was the bloody bacon mayo. Also, my cousin ordered a bacon mayo dip and it was HALF full..we showed the waiter and he went and got us another. Now onto the freakshake..what a waste of ingredients..Whatever they sent out tasted like pure cream that had not even been blended with the Oreos. We couldn't believe it. We barely drank the Salted Caramel or the Oreo freakshake and gave it back. The waiter thankfully did not charge us for this. We came to dine here for my sister's birthday and it was absolutely ruined by such poor food and quite mediocre service. Not to mention, everyone was sweating at the table because it was so hot. Obviously they didn't care about using AC to make their customers feel more comfortable. After spending about £30 per head on food, we just couldn't believe the money we had wasted. Luckily we came on a day when the prices were upto 40% off on some dishes. I can't imagine anyone being happy after paying full price. Afterwards, we ended up going to Tinsel Town to get real shakes. Never again will I go to Maxwell's, unless it's for the bar downstairs. The bar was the only good experience there.

Our experience at Maxwells was brilliant. Food was amazing and the staff were so on the ball. I can see why they are famous for their freakshakes, they were amazing! Slight issue was that it was so hot in there. They did however have massive air conditioner units so they were trying to address the issue. The restaurant were so accommodating to the fact we were there for a birthday and made a big fuss of the birthday boy.. much to his embarrassment! Looking forward to going to Maxwells again!!

I have been to Maxwell's many times in past (at their previous location) and it was one of my favourite restaurants. Great staff amazing food lovely venue.
Today I went to the new location for the first time and unfortunately it wasn't as good as usual. The venue is smaller and less atmospheric but that's a detail. The waiter was friendly although he forgot our order and came back a second time to ask. We got our mains (which were okay - very soggy burgers - such a shame their burgers used to be something to dream of) but they had forgotten the sides we had ordered. We asked for them again while we were eating but as we were finishing our burgers they still hadn't arrived. We wanted to cancel the but the waiter said they were coming and they'll be free unless we wanted to pay for them (?). Cocktails and shakes were nice.
Overall okay but a downfall from what it used to be. Hopefully it was just a bad day for them.

Maxwells as always been a favorite place to visit when visiting London however was very disappointed this time, wasn’t aware it had moved and although the new venue is nice I didn’t really think there was any gain from where it was, also the menu has changed and not for the better, no fillet steak!!! Over the years I have always recommended friends who were visiting to go to maxwells as the fillet steak is the best, can’t understand why you would take it off the menu, opted for sirloin but was very disappointed with that also. And the bill was £222 for 2 adults and 4 kids, a service charge of £25 included! Needless to say I didn’t pay it. Not sure I’ll visit again.

I’ve been to Maxwells before but in this occasion the service was terrible. We went to take advantage of the ‘theatre menu’ but was not offered it - we had to ask. We had to ask 3 times for tap water.
People arrived after us had orders taken before us and we’re served and gone before our mains had been brought to our table. Attempts to attract the attention of staff who were chatting to each other was frustrating and I eventually had to drawn attention to staff on the ground floor.
Food when it arrived was good although my main course was luke warm. Offers to heat it up was turned down because by then we were late having been in the restaurant for 75 minutes during which other customers had come and gone!
I suspect our table, upstairs at the end of the balcony was partly to blame!
The manager apologised and deducted my drinks from the final bill.
But our evening should not have been that bad!

We would have booked somewhere else had we known prior. Staff were lovely and tried to make up for it with a sparkly candle and cookie freak shake.
