The welcome was excellent and the table comfortable. We were given good time to make our choices from a very attractive menu. The food was well served and well spaced between courses. It was an altogether excellent dining experience in a very relaxed ambiance.
We always enjoy the efficient service and atmosphere. Food excellent, wines good and altogether a pleasing occasion.
We look forward to our return.
Very good food (particularly the cheese board). Service started off not great when our starters arrived before anyone had taken our wine order...but definitely improved
This is a good london restaurant, for that you have to pay up! So be prepared to part with £100 per head and that’s being conservative on the alcohol!
Food is great, very similar to dining at Chez Bruce if you know it.
Very good food
Good wine list
I went for he first time on Friday. Staff excellent. There but did not intrude . Food was excellent all in all perfect will definitely go again
We had a magnificent evening. Food and service were outstanding.
Four of us had dinner at Medlar on Wednesday 7 November. Each couple had previously been to Medlar on earlier visits to London. We loved everything about the experience. The restaurant was full and buzzy. However we had the “ Banque” seating which gave us a feeling of privacy. We were able to converse easily. The waiter and sommelier were both efficient ,knowledgeable and friendly.
The food was sensational. The piece d resistance was the Tarte Tatin, which has to be ordered for two people. It fed all four of us and is reason enough on its own to return. We ate at the River Cafe the following evening and had a great night. However we rated Medlar as superior for food and ambiance and certainly for price.
We are coming back to London in February 2019 and will be returning to Medlar
Excellent food and service. Wish we could come every week!
We took some french friends their for dinner. They chose the wine (a Graves from Bordeaux) which was excellent. The Waiter spoke French and was very attentive. Would recommend for a special occasion.
All I can say about MEDLAR is that it is improved tremendously since it first opened and now everything is exquisite, food, service, ambiance, attention to detail, wines et al. It is great to know that for any occasion
Medlar will come up trumps!
Having visited Medlar once before I decided to take my wife there for her birthday lunch with 2 friends who had not been there. All our table were delighted with everything, our food, our wines, the service - I am saving up for the next time!
A deliocious tasting menu with matching wines and excellent service. A real treat.
Enjoyed a really great meal. A good find and well worth the visit.
Had lunch at Medlar earlier this week, loved it so much I have booked the private dining room to celebrate my birthday next year !
A mixed experience. Food was reasonable overall but first and main courses lacked flavouring (or flavouring was too subtle for our palates). Leek and potato soup was interesting with reasonable flavour (certainly better than supermarket leek and potato) but the additions (poached mackerel, quail's eggs - or egg singular in my case) were underwhelming in terms of what they actually added to the dish. Comte gougeres were nicely done, light and tasty. Crab raviolo with samphire, brown shrimps, fondue of leeks and bisque sauce was pleasant but slightly cold (plates could be warmed which would help here and on the main courses) and the bisque sauce was slightly too thin in my companion's opinion. Rump of Belted Galloway was cooked nicely pink, and went well well with cafe de Paris snails, but shallot puree lacked any punch and stuffed portobello mushroom was more of a flat mushroom with crispy bits on top and added little. Bearnaise sauce was reasonable. Duck magret was also cooked nicely pink and the confit leg pastilla was a highlight with concentrated flavour in my companion's opinion. Both main courses lost heat quickly on cool/cold plates which was a shame as this probably reduced their flavour/aroma. Food highlight was an excellent tarte tatin to share which ended the meal on a high. Wines by the glass were very good (a white burgundy at £12.50 a glass for my companion and a Graves from a magnum of Chateau Rahoul at £15 a glass for me). These were the most expensive wines by the glass on the wine list (the list on the restaurant website seems to be out of date as neither of these wines are listed on it) but well worth their price. Service was friendly but quite slapdash - soup swilled around the dish when putting it down on the table, plates removed quite clumsily, cutlery added and removed quite sloppily. It felt like several of the front of house staff were new or temp/casual/shift staff and not used to the restaurant. Probably not one for a return visit for us.
Excellent dinner. Food was delicious and service excellent - friendly and efficient. We’ll be back. Thank you.
The Medlar meal was superb everything about the Restaurant was fabulous the service was fantastic and the food was amazing I would definitely recommend the Medlar and I will be coming back
Consistently good high standard ever since opening 11 years ago A real pleasure to eat there
Unassuming neighbourhood restaurant from the front - Inside truly 5star food show casing the best of Bristish produce.
A cosy and relaxed environment with friendly, approachable and knowledgeable staff. Sophisticated yet unpretentious. Well worth the price and definitely worth another visit
Excellent food. Very attentive and knowledgeable staff. Quiet and relaxed setting. It puts you in a good mood. The prices are reasonable for the high quality yet unfussy food. I would highly recommend for an anniversary, birthday or date.
Delicious seasonal food, was hard to choose from the menu. Very good service felt very special and treated.
The restaurant is lovely and the food is delicious, but my wife and her friend both ordered the sea trout tartare. Both got violently ill from it.
Could not fault the service . Very friendly and helpful . The starter was absolutely delicious and although there was not much cooking involved the flavours were lovely.
The main course was not good , rather tough pork and the crackling was not like any crackling I had had before ! When I complained it was removed from the bill without questions .
I have lunched and dined here many times and this was the first time it was not great.
I will certainly be back.
Medlar never lets me down. Cosy environment, amazing cuisine and proper service. Every friend I brought here is satisfied and had a wonderful time. No doubt I will be back from time to time.
Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I like my Hake cooked through - not just a few millimetres on the outside!
Whilst we had a very enjoyable evening and were well looked after, the duck I had for main course was a little tough and did not have much flavour.
However we will certainly go there again as it always has a very interesting menu and a good wine list.
Medlar never disappoints. The food was amazing. The grouse according with my 82 years old Scottish father in law who dined out all the time “the best grouse I had in my life”. And the duck was amazing!
The food was good in the following order, cheese, wine, dessert, starter. The main dish was mediocre ( I felt that I could have produced it myself) and not much in quantity though the quality was up to standard. Side dishes were shockingly small and parsimonious; salads and fries. Bread was delicious but there were only two types. Excellent service and very pleasant staff and attentive manager who knew his cheeses ! The same goes for the very knowledgeable and convivial wine waiter. Bill came to £190 (3 glasses of house wine). That was too expensive for a not very memorable meal which did not inspire a return visit despite the lovely location and ambiance.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Medlar. Everything was just perfect. Lovely atmosphere, delicious food and excellent service.
This is the kind of elegant mature restaurant that is so very difficult to find. It has an outstanding wine list and top quality dishes from the beginning to the end. In fact, this is one of the best pudding menus in London. The service is quietly competent and not over the top and the ambience is warm, safe, and deeply enjoyable.
Crab Ravioli followed by suckling pig. Simply delicious. Charming service. A lovely evening
The food was as good as any i have found in London but the wine list is a bit over the top
Love this place! Food is good. It’s a little gem.
Perfect for a date, a quiet and intimate ambience with fantastic menu.
It's beautifully decorated but the food doesn't quite live up to the price tag. While my sweetbreads were delicious, the brill was very disappointing. Hardly any fat - that's where the flavour comes from!
I'd be willing to give it another try because the atmosphere is great. Hopefully I won't land on a dud dish this time (or there won't be any).
As always a phenomenal experience at Medlar!
Food was on point
David and his team’s service was perfect & Ziggy was right on with the wines.
Wish I was in London more to visit more often. As good as when I first went years ago.
It my birthday treat and we couldn’t have been better looked after. Superb service, beautiful food, lovely ambiance. I’d heard many good things but it surpassed all expectations. My husband was ill so he just got soup (which we were not charged for) and (poor man) he was subject to me raving about how wonderful it all tasted (including a very well recommended wine which I would never have ordered but loved). We are trying to find another excuse to return. It was exceptional.
Everything was spot on. Well executed cooking of delicious ingredients . Crab raviolo was especially lovely. Cooking was up to date and modern but not overly trendy or cheffy. Very good wine list.
Service was friendly and professional.
Nice to have a starter, main and pudding rather than small sharing plates and proper tablecloth and napkins.
I have dined at Medlar on several occasions, the food, staff and surroundings never fails to meet expectations. The food is totally superb, staff are friendly and professional, whilst the atmosphere is relaxing. A real gem of a restaurant and well worth a visit.
