Whilst we had a very enjoyable evening and were well looked after, the duck I had for main course was a little tough and did not have much flavour.
However we will certainly go there again as it always has a very interesting menu and a good wine list.
Medlar never disappoints. The food was amazing. The grouse according with my 82 years old Scottish father in law who dined out all the time “the best grouse I had in my life”. And the duck was amazing!
The food was good in the following order, cheese, wine, dessert, starter. The main dish was mediocre ( I felt that I could have produced it myself) and not much in quantity though the quality was up to standard. Side dishes were shockingly small and parsimonious; salads and fries. Bread was delicious but there were only two types. Excellent service and very pleasant staff and attentive manager who knew his cheeses ! The same goes for the very knowledgeable and convivial wine waiter. Bill came to £190 (3 glasses of house wine). That was too expensive for a not very memorable meal which did not inspire a return visit despite the lovely location and ambiance.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Medlar. Everything was just perfect. Lovely atmosphere, delicious food and excellent service.
This is the kind of elegant mature restaurant that is so very difficult to find. It has an outstanding wine list and top quality dishes from the beginning to the end. In fact, this is one of the best pudding menus in London. The service is quietly competent and not over the top and the ambience is warm, safe, and deeply enjoyable.
Crab Ravioli followed by suckling pig. Simply delicious. Charming service. A lovely evening
The food was as good as any i have found in London but the wine list is a bit over the top
Love this place! Food is good. It’s a little gem.
Perfect for a date, a quiet and intimate ambience with fantastic menu.
It's beautifully decorated but the food doesn't quite live up to the price tag. While my sweetbreads were delicious, the brill was very disappointing. Hardly any fat - that's where the flavour comes from!
I'd be willing to give it another try because the atmosphere is great. Hopefully I won't land on a dud dish this time (or there won't be any).
As always a phenomenal experience at Medlar!
Food was on point
David and his team’s service was perfect & Ziggy was right on with the wines.
Wish I was in London more to visit more often. As good as when I first went years ago.
It my birthday treat and we couldn’t have been better looked after. Superb service, beautiful food, lovely ambiance. I’d heard many good things but it surpassed all expectations. My husband was ill so he just got soup (which we were not charged for) and (poor man) he was subject to me raving about how wonderful it all tasted (including a very well recommended wine which I would never have ordered but loved). We are trying to find another excuse to return. It was exceptional.
Everything was spot on. Well executed cooking of delicious ingredients . Crab raviolo was especially lovely. Cooking was up to date and modern but not overly trendy or cheffy. Very good wine list.
Service was friendly and professional.
Nice to have a starter, main and pudding rather than small sharing plates and proper tablecloth and napkins.
I have dined at Medlar on several occasions, the food, staff and surroundings never fails to meet expectations. The food is totally superb, staff are friendly and professional, whilst the atmosphere is relaxing. A real gem of a restaurant and well worth a visit.
Lovey food , excellent service , expensive but it is in Chelsea so expected .
I’ve been to Medlar so many times and it never ever is anything but perfect. I would say it is the best value in London given the quality of the food.
My recommendation is just go and try the great food and service.
My friend and I enjoyed the lunch from start to finish. Reasonable price for high standard of gourmet experience. Just love it.
We have visited Medlar several times and always enjoy the food, service and ambience - while the wine list is a little on the pricey side with careful consideration we found a decent bottle of red to accompany a delicious four course meal with one of the highlights being the excellent cheese board.
Just the best best best place ever - south London is not my usual hangout but I’ll be making the trek again from Harringey again for this amazing place.
Service was the best I’ve ever experienced in london
Excellent food and service at a sensible price, Medlar offers a great package. The food has French influence and many rich flavours that you savour on their own but that also work brilliantly together. This is exceptional cooking and is fully complemented by the friendly but very efficient service. We're going back!
Found this place after reading a positive review on the Evening Standard but how disappointing.
We both ordered the tasting menu so we can try many dishes. The food was fairly good but the service was absolutely awful. The wine glasses were left for a good 30 mins after we’ve finished with them. The dirty plates sat for about 10-15 mins and were collected once the next course arrived. There wasn’t a thorough explanation of each dish and we were left wondering what we were exactly eating.
The value for the quality of the food and service is extremely over priced. They’re charging haute cuisine prices while their restaurant is literally a regular restaurant serving regular food.
If you’re striving to be a high end/fine dining establishment you should truly consider polishing up your service.
We will NOT be going back nor recommending the restaurant to any of our friends or family.
It’s not my first time coming to Medlar and it won’t be the last. It’s always a wonderful and impeccable experience that’s truly special: the food, ambience and service are faultless. I love this restaurant.
Medlar is the sort of restaurant where the biggest problem is narrowing down your choice from the always appealing options on the menu. The food is wonderfully cooked and the portions are generous for this level of dining. Service is both friendly and professional and head sommelier Didier Catelo offers interesting wine and beer pairings along with a comprehensive wine list. Cheese lovers will find one of the best cheeseboards in London with outstandingly sourced and stored cheese appearing in perfect condition. Highly recommended.
Excellent working lunch, with unobtrusive service and delicious food. My Cod was perfectly cooked and very tasty, and my colleague remarked that he had really enjoyed the pork belly. Dessert was also very good, and the final coffee and sweets were a pleasant treat. A full wine list pleased the client.
Would definitely visit again!
I can't recommend Medlar highly enough. The food is simply stunning, and the service is impeccable.
wonderful as always! we shall come back many times because we really think that medlar is the best restaurant in london
Simply stunning food that makes you think wow wish I could cook like this. The cleverness is the dishes’s ingredients were obvious but the end result was not. The taste sensations came delightfully unannounced and the preseantion was slick and refined. Whilst the food was stunning the service was deliberately light and relaxed but again clever as the staff’s attention to our detail and our needs never wavered. They didn’t overpower and just quietly got on with things with a smile on their faces - a rare find It was just outstanding and I urge all of you to go and but leave a table for 2 please. Well done Medlar, living in Pimlico it’s easily worth the journey!
See you soon and compliments to you all
4 of us enjoyed an excellent Sunday Lunch at Medlar. Attentive and efficient service. Wine list looked a little on the pricey side but I found a couple of reasonably priced options which were delicious. We sat outside on the small terrace pavement, mainly because it was so hot but the restaurant itself looks great, white table cloths throughout but a very relaxed and informal vibe. Service was spot on. Highly recommended.
Gastronomic restaurant similar to the Glasshouse in Kew or la Trompette in Chiswick.
Nice room and good service.
Great value for money given the quality of the ingredients, cooking level and area.
Lovely ambiance and food. Nice for a romantic dinner.
I revisited Medlar after a period of 2 years since my last visit.
This service and food is as good as it was on my previous visit and I highly recommend this restaurant.
Fantastic restaurant with wonderful food and excellent service
Medlar is always outstanding for its food and the set menu provided a great set of choices from vegetarian to fish meat and game. The price for the set lunch is set well and portions are generous. The wine list is extensive but not cheap though there are some reasonable priced wines.
Terrific and innovative menu, great staff and always enjoyable. Favourite restaurant in London
Perfect as ever We sat outside and enjoyed the weather, excellent food and great wine.
The crab raviolo is just the best
Medlar is one of our “Go-to” places for a special night out. The food is reliably excellent and fine, as is the wines and service.
If we are coming to London usually for an Art exhibition we usually go to Medlar,s for lunch and nearly always choose the same things crab ravioli and Guinea fowl so cannot give an overview of the food it I am sure all the dishes are just as good as ours! Very nice ambience _ not stuffy but smart with efficient service. Pleasant all round and lunch is a bargain
Went for my husband's birthday after seeing other great reviews. were not disappointed AT ALL. They promptly responded via email to my enquiry about a vegetarian tasting menu & remembered me through the booking so presented both the tasting course options as well as the main menu. The service was wonderful, friendly and professional at the same time. The atmosphere was great, relaxed and slightly shabby chic and lots of space between the tables. My husband had the meat-eater tasting menu, and they were really flexible about changing one of the courses (he does not eat duck). Nothing was an issue. The food was fantastic, the veggie tasting menu one of the best I have had, tasty, fresh, beautifully presented and a bit different to the usual. We also had the wine flight with it . This was tailored to our specific tastes & was generous! I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation if you want to feel spoilt and looked after and like an individual.
French Cuisine, but not as nice as an everyday bistro in regional France and about twice the price. The roadside was busy and noisy. Great wine list but very expensive. Great service. Though a 12.5% “discretionary” service charge on 100 quid bottle of wine and 106 quid fixed price meals is as ever annoying and illogical (as the service is not proportional to the cost).
Another outstanding meal at my favourite restaurant in London. Delicious food, outstanding wine, excellent service and a lovely room.
Food was generally good with the exception of one dish, and at this price I expect every dish to be excellent. The rabbit main course I had was bland, watery and under seasoned - very poor. Sadly paying £32 for a substandard main course doesn’t leave one with a positive experience. Also the booth seating is some of the most uncomfortable and unsupportive I’ve experienced at a high end restaurant. Outside of those criticisms everything else was excellent.
