Medlar Ratings and Reviews
Utterly fantastic. Pleasant and helpful staff, quick service, incredible food, a massive wine list and surprisingly affordable considering what you're getting for your money. By which I mean it's not exactly cheap but it's still very reasonable compared to other restaurants of its type.
Try the onion velute with foie gras. It's impossibly good.
Our family of four went there for a pre-New Year lunch, before our daughter flew back to Hong Kong. It was our first visit but we had heard good things - and they were entirely justified. The menu was relatively short, with about 6 choices per course but everything looked interesting. We each had different starters and mains, and they were all extremely good, and several were exceptional. It is by no means cheap but if you are looking for a quiet, discreet restaurant with superb food, you won't go wrong here. Thoroughly recommended. We will be back.
Delicious food, and very delicate tastes and textures. Good wine suggestions. Lovely place in a quiet neighbourhood. Would definitely recommend this place to friends. A bit pricey but with nice food and services, it's worth a try. White onion soup with foie gras is a must try!
We thought the food was absolutely lovely and enjoyed the ambiance greatly. The service was very good and we will definitely be going back. It was also very sweet of them to bring me a special birthday pudding at the end, with a candle in it. Overall, creative and very broad menu and good quality food.
Thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Medlar. Food was inspired and utterly delicious; wine list is phenomenal. Service very attentive without being overwhelming. Definitely on the 'favourite restaurants' list for special occasions - or just a Saturday evening treat. Go there!
A lunch with an old friend was a real hit with excellent starters, mains and puds and a good choice of wines including some reasonably priced ones. Service was first rate, polite, discreet and with good pacing. A memorable experience which will hopefully be repeated before too long.
Wonderful meal that lived up to all expectations and good value for level of cooking and quality of meal. Gorgeous setting. Didn’t like sitting near the cheese table as the smell was quite pronounced and was disappointed that both ladies loos were out of order so we had to go to the staff loo. We felt it was poor for both loos to be OOO but will definitely come back.
We have eaten at Medlar a few times and it is always a delight. There is only one issue with the imaginative and varied menu: narrowing your choice to just one dish per course! We circumvented this problem by ensuring each of us ordered something different and then all had a taste of each dish. On this occasion, we left the wine choices entirely to the sommelier so we drank the Greek Argyros Assyrtiko white to start and followed his with the Warwick Cabernet Franc - both excellent suggestions. My well-travelled foodie American friends loved it all. Even the inevitable conversation about Trump couldn't spoil our evening!!!
Fantastic birthday lunch, slow and sumptuous food, great service.
Crab ravioli was an experience and so were the deserts. Main hake with vegetables and truffles was great too. Bread and butter outstanding. Desserts were melting in my mouth.
The only meal which was not to my taste was the gamey grouse, it is probably an acquired taste for aristocratic grouse shooters :o))
We hope the restaurant can bring more comfortable high chairs for little people.
Standing outside we were wondering whether to go in as it was quite small and intimate looking - there was not much else around in terms of restaurants and bars. However we are so glad we did! The food was excellent, as was the service. I had the Buretta to start and my husband the corn veloute, both of which hit the spot. My venison main course was simply delicious and my husband had the steak (minus the snails) and that too was cooked to perfection. The highlight of the menu has to be the cheese board - so many to choose from and generously handed out. I have paid much higher prices for lesser quality food and service and the restaurant owner/manager should be proud of themselves. Over all a delightful experience and we would definitely recommend.
Second visit to Medlar and the experience was as great as the first time. All the things on the menu are lovely and the wine list extensive. The service is not over the top as in other restaurants but they are there when you need them. One of my favorite restaurants in London.
This was a return visit after a few years and what a wonderful change. Without wishing to
be rude about my first visit, it was a little disappointing. However, my return visit this week
was a wonder. The food was exquisite, the ambiance relaxed and friendly. The staff were
all very helpful and knowledgeable regarding the food and wine. Hope to return very soon.
I really like Medlar. I try to go there whenever I am in London. Our recent meal was very good as usual.
We both had the crab raviolo as a starter and I wouldn't have anything else. It was exceptional. This was followed by a fantastic Hake dish for myself and venison for my wife which was also great . Two stunning mains. I was a little disappointed with my desert as I couldn't really find anything n the menu that attracted me and the chocolate mouse I ordered was too heavy for me. The marshmallows that went with our speciality tea were great though and made up for the desert.
I will keep coming back for the quality of the food but I did find this time that the tables are too close together.
Really appetising menu throughout the courses. Gave us considerable trouble making our choices; the list was so appealing. The delivery on the plate was excellent. Wine list was excellent. Took a while to take our order initially but made up for it by hearing one of the table saying the would have liked something on another’s plate and bringing it within a couple of minutes at no charge.
