Good food/drink/service/value/vibe but a little smell of drains!
Distinctly underwhelming...Quite pricey and just very average all round.
Excellent service. I had the sea bass and my friend the cod, both very tasty, and we shared a spinach and triple fried potatoes. Delicious wine by the glass.
Great venue. Good food. Good Price. Not rushed. Four very happy diners.
Not as good as it has been previously. The food didn’t look as well presented as it could have been.
Not very good value for money. All sides were extra cost - so if you order steak, thats all you get with a choice of sauce. The cost soon adds up. Food was good though and service was good.
Food was good, not busy when we dined but then it had been snowing enjoyed the burgers
Such a nice venue and often lovely food, but it is a bit up and down. This time service was slow, a kir royale made with Prosecco and just generally a bit over-priced.
This place has so much potential. I wont be visiting for a while, but really hope in a few months it will have improved as I do genuinely have an affection for it.
Homemade pasta was lovely and experimental. Service was a bit slow in the kitchen this time and the staff friendly but unsure of the menu which was a bit disconcerting.
Visited for the bottomless brunch offer. Food was average at best, service was poor.
We had to request a top up several times, were not offered desert menus and our change of £8 was not returned to us. This was in excess of the service that is automatically included in he Bill, so essentially we were charged over 20% for what was below par service. Wouldn't rush back
Very noisy. Food tastes excellent but portions are minimal.
We booked with the understanding we were booking a steak restaurant 'Karpo' however got there to find out that the restaurant had changed names and menu, with a significantly worse menu that was offered by Karpo online. Please be aware of this when booking
A great example of over selling online and under delivering in reality. Sloppy service and OK food. And a strange interior that sounded so much nicer than it was.
Having visited Megaro earlier knew that their food is good. It was, but otherwise it was a slight disappointment. It felt somehow worn-out. Needs a face-lift, I suppose.
Disappointed with our expensive experience. All the kids orders were wrong. And as ony two choices for them it wasnt hard, grey food and forgot side orders, didnt have the wine on the list either.
Service was poor. Food was ok. Nice wine. Good ambience.
Terrible service, so bad they gave us a discount, without even asking! Shame as food nice.
It was a strange experience and not one that I will likely be repeating. My friend and I both ordered burgers, medium rare. About 10 minutes after we ordered them, a man came and stood by our table. My friend and I thought it was a bit strange and rather uncomfortable as he was standing very close to my friend. He put his hand on the unlidded top of our water bottle ( I'm not an ocd hygiene nut, but that just struck me as unnecessarily unhygienic) and started speaking to us. It turns out he was a manager or senior waiter, and told us we couldn't have our burgers medium rare as there was some law that prevented them doing that. News to us but ok.
The £16 burgers were underwhelming. The meat was grey and didn't seem to be particularly good quality. The portion was very small for the price we were paying.
Several times during the meal we caught a whiff of what smelled like toilet smell. Very unappetizing. When my friend raised it with the strange waiter / manager when we were paying he said it was the smell from changing the water in the living wall in the restaurant. So it doesn't seem to be something that can be avoided, and the living wall seems to be a big mistake for a restaurant. If I'm going to constantly smell toilet-like smell during my meal, I'm not going to return to or recommend that place.
We very much enjoyed our meal here recently. The staff are very attentive and sweet. The food was really excellent, smokey steaks and perfect fish. We were very happy. Only thing against it is I would say that the cost is slightly more than the setting would predict, given the standard of the food and the cost, the setting is perhaps a little too informal? But this is more an issue of expectations which this review should help with!
A deconseiller
We were very satisfied with this restaurant. The food was excellent, with some vegetarian options. The pumpkin ravioli with chestnuts on a mushroom bed were delicious, as well as the goose breast. The Italian waiter was adorable. As French customers, we did not expect to eat this well in London.
I found the staff to be quite rude and unwelcoming, we didnt have the same waiter so there was no attention given to our table. We had to constantly ask the waiter to top up our drinks and the waitress taking our order was particularly impatient which was off putting. I felt that there was an atmosphere in the restaurant and lots of banging and crashing around. Although the food was nice, the atmosphere wasn't very welcoming .
I booked a table for 7 people at 3pm, and we all made the way to the restaurant from around London. When we turned up, we were told “don’t you know the kitchen is always closed at 3pm”. So why did they take our booking, and waste our day?! We ended up going to pizza express instead!
To add, the interior was severely lacking and wasn’t much like the pictures.
Don’t go here ever.
Great service and food was good value, thanks and see you again in the future
Just excellent - super food, delightful staff, very handy for kings cross
The best I can say is that it wasn't bad and not too expensive
Not busy, nice experience. Food was simple any quite good!
Very poor. Ordered medium steaks with wild mushroom sauce (cost about £25 per portion without side) - got well done without sauce. Ordered wine 2015, got 2016. Starters were average. Ordered dessert - never got to taste it as arrived very late and wrong. It was 3 tables occupied in whole restaurant and all ordered food was late. Manager was present but all they offered as an excuse - 3 coffees, which we never had time to enjoy as dessert we ordered never came. Bills was £171 for 2 ppl, and food and whole experience does not worth the money AT ALL, you get better steaks in local pub for £5.99. Maybe it's OK for a coffee or glass of wine, but nothing more. AVOID.
It was nice overall. On weekend they only serve brunch menu, wish I’ve known that before the booking.
Kids menu wasn’t available, even though I asked them to place us in the corner as it was a meal with a kid but they didn’t seem to consider when placing us.
Food was fine but the value was more for the location than food itself.
More of a fuss could have been made over my dad since I specifically mentioned on the booking it was his birthday. Nothing was mentioned until a fleeting ‘happy birthday’ after we were on our way out.
There was 6 of us including 2 kids. It was lovely! Would recommend anytime. Great food!
Olga was friendly and gave great advice. The ovens made the seat a bit warm and it was cozy but not too bad. I loved the atmosphere and some of the dishes were really good. I would return and try other dishes. Cocktails were fab too.
Really tasty food, and an exciting take on the usual brunch items.
Very well prepared food in a very convenient location. The bar downstairs is a hidden gem, with lots of semi-private seating ares separated by curtains and cinema seats. Could do with better lighting in the restaurant to improve the ambience.
Very attentive service throughout our meal. We had opted for the £20 for 2 course but disappointed to see any steak on the menu we went a la carte and enjoyed a well cooked ribeye steak and a dessert with wine. Ended up being quite expensive but not feeling like a top restaurant but overall a good experience.
This was my first time for dinner, having eaten breakfast several times in the past. I brought me wife for a romantic evening, and Karpo did not disappoint. The preparation of our food was perfect, both the duck breast and scallops were excellent. This place has a good selection of wine, that went very well with the meal. It's too bad I live 8000 miles away, or I would eat here more often. My loss is your gain. :)
Had the fixed price meal. Totally adequate. Very convenient for a train home.
Great food, good wine, great location. The staff are really friendly - highly recommende.
We went very early on a Friday night so it was very quiet but the lighting is nice and the place has a nice feel about it. The upstairs seating area would be great as it has a huge window and you can see into Kings Cross. The wine and beer we had was nice and the starter of mussels was lovely as well as the crab and avocado roll. For main i had steak we had a burger and sides of chips and salad and spinach, It was all very nice but the creamed spinach was really too salty. That is the only things we would have changed. Overall a nice meal, great food and great service, give it a try!
Poor atmosphere, ok for tourists who want a quick meal close to a kings x
