An Italian restaurant with a difference, Mele e Pere is brought to London’s Soho by Peter Hughes and Andrea Mantovani, previously of the acclaimed Wild Honey. From the moment you arrive and glimpse the row upon row of Murano glass apples and pears in the Mele e Pere window you know you’re in for… something a little different – the basement interior is utterly unlike any Italian restaurant you’ve pulled up a seat in before, lit with anglepoise lamps and decorated with bold abstract artworks. The menu is made up of just a well-chosen handful of bold, confident dishes from throughout Italy; Venetian fish, Sicilian prawns, heartier offerings of red meats and tripe from Rome and the north. Desserts, equally typically Italian, are worth leaving a little room for, everything down to the handmade ice cream earning rave reviews from even the fussiest critics. Mele e Pere’s wine list includes around thirty bins at a range of prices.

Had a great meal here last week with a friend I hadn't seen in a while. Lovely place for a catch-up as it's quiet enough to hear each other but with a nice buzz. Service was attentive and friendly without being too intrusive. We both ordered the pasta with black truffle as we couldn't bear to risk food envy and we were blissfully happy with our choice.

Mele e Pere is a safe option when you're going out with a group of friends, the food is on the comfort (vs amazing) side of things but it does the job. I would suggest to revisit the stuffed olives as they have moved away too much from the original concept. Also, the burrata was rather a (half) mozzarella and not really worth the £8 we were charged. At the same time I think of the tiramisu with fondness, which is a rarity! They made us wait for our table more than 40 minutes, but eventually they managed to kick out the previous party, in a away is a sign that they are as welcoming as London gets.

Mele e Pere is utterly reliable. We have eaten here quite a few time now, and the the food and service are always the same excellent standard. The staff are always extremely friendly, the food imaginatively presented with great flavour combinations. The menu is different every time, and the pre-theatre set menu is amazing value.

Always a good meal, we go for the Bubbles menu which is great value and great for a pre show meal.

I would say this that the male staff are all amazing, and the female staff not quite so good, they seem uninterested in customers and service is not so good, that's just an observation and would not stop me going, the last meal seemed rushed and was all over in 30mins but a great waiter always friendly popped another bother of water on the table and the girls did nothing, i had to ask for the free drink and had no bread, the time before it was all done and was fantastic.

i would still be happy too return however, the food it very good

Tasty food. Service was a bit haphazard and slow but friendly. Good pasta and very delicious sharing plates. Would come back again!

Too much noise. The waitress was very arrogant and unfriendly. I have been at Mel & Pere for several times, and at this time I get very disappointed.

After arrival 2 of our party of 4 got our drinks, the other 2 had to wait a good 20 minutes in spite of us asking their whereabouts. When the drinks eventually arrived they were wrong. One of our oak tables was so wonky the food kept sliding down the table to the person opposite. My fish was ok but the fennel which came with it had a taste that bore no resemblance to fennel. I had to order other vegetables as I left it (I love fennel normally). One, of us had pasta at £18.00 which was bland and unimaginative to say the least. I had put a lot of research into finding a good Italian restaurant for the four of us as my brother flew briefly into London to meet us before heading off again. The meal was very expensive for the poor service and mediocre food and none of us would go back again.
