An Italian restaurant with a difference, Mele e Pere is brought to London’s Soho by Peter Hughes and Andrea Mantovani, previously of the acclaimed Wild Honey. From the moment you arrive and glimpse the row upon row of Murano glass apples and pears in the Mele e Pere window you know you’re in for… something a little different – the basement interior is utterly unlike any Italian restaurant you’ve pulled up a seat in before, lit with anglepoise lamps and decorated with bold abstract artworks. The menu is made up of just a well-chosen handful of bold, confident dishes from throughout Italy; Venetian fish, Sicilian prawns, heartier offerings of red meats and tripe from Rome and the north. Desserts, equally typically Italian, are worth leaving a little room for, everything down to the handmade ice cream earning rave reviews from even the fussiest critics. Mele e Pere’s wine list includes around thirty bins at a range of prices.

Great venue for lunch. Good choice on set menu and we both enjoyed our meals. I would recommend.

Difficult to get waiter to see you if you are sitting near the decor book shelf as it obstructs view. Absolutely delicious and set menu is very good value though.

Food was excellent & server was very helpful with ingredients not known to us. Great value for a pre theatre meal. Very authentic Italian cuisine.

I thought the quality of the food and service very good for the deal we received. Lunchtime 3 courses and a glass of prosecco for £20 very good.
Service was great as the restaurant was quiet due to the royal wedding being on tv, and no pressure to stick to the 2 hr time slot

Went on a quiet sunday evening.
The 3-course sunday menu was delicious and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Great cocktails too!

We booked a pre theatre slot at 5pm and not surprisingly the restaurant was quiet so expected to service to be good. Unfortunately this was not the case, drinks took a while and in the end I opened the wine as the waitress struggling and she still hadn't brought the beer I had ordered. Food was nice but I had to chase for the second bottle and had a long wait to order desert.

I'd been the previous week with my wife and came back with a colleague to drink more vermouth and try some dishes I'd fancied but not had on the previous occasion (like the Salt Cod carpaccio).

Yes - I will return for a third visit.

Found this place as I wanted to redeem my Opentable voucher in Soho and they take them.
Upstairs is a vermouth bar and downstairs is a bar and trattoria. There is a vermouth happy hour(s) 5-7pm. I can't remember when I last (if ever) drank vermouth on its own as an apperitif but I recommend it.

The menu is small and quirky (not your bog standard Italian) and the food is good. I like the ambience downstairs. I was with my wife but came back with a business colleague the following week as there is a buzz but you can carry out a conversation.

So glad I found this and will be back yet again soon.

Midweek meal. Sat in the ground floor area for a change - smaller but more intimate. Great negronis as usual. Service with a smile and good quality Italian food!

Catch up with friends and had table in the corner, which was nice as it meant we had more space and privacy. However it also meant we got somewhat forgotten by the waitresses!

Really enjoyed our meal here prior to a show at the Piccadilly Theatre.
We arrived a bit late but our table was still held and they rushed the food to ensure we were on time for the theatre. We had the 3 course meal which was great value at £20 each. The pasta with mushrooms was very tasty but the portion size was small but the 3 courses was sufficient.
Great meal and I would go again.

As always, an interesting menu. We had a slight problem with the pasta too al dente, but when we explained, that was taken care of politely and efficiently - great customer relations!

We were there to celebrate our anniversary but disappointingly there were no special touches from the restaurant even though we'd mentioned that the reservation was for a special celebration. However, the food was delicious and lovely and my first try of vermouth was very positive.

The food was good in general. Had the ravioli with lobster and the beef tagliatelle. They were tasty and reasonably well cooked, though perhaps the only observation is that the portions are probably not as big as you would expect from an Italian restaurant properly staffed by Italians (I had to get a full plate and half a ration of another one to feel satisfied).

Other than that, the vermouth selection is abundant (though slightly pricey in my opinion) and the wine list is consistent with the aim of the place.

Service was great, no complaints whatsoever.

Great food and place. But we booked for a Friday and it was really loud. Maybe less noisy early in the week.

Service was slow, got the food later than people coming in after us. The food saved this place.

Had a great meal here last week with a friend I hadn't seen in a while. Lovely place for a catch-up as it's quiet enough to hear each other but with a nice buzz. Service was attentive and friendly without being too intrusive. We both ordered the pasta with black truffle as we couldn't bear to risk food envy and we were blissfully happy with our choice.

Mele e Pere is a safe option when you're going out with a group of friends, the food is on the comfort (vs amazing) side of things but it does the job. I would suggest to revisit the stuffed olives as they have moved away too much from the original concept. Also, the burrata was rather a (half) mozzarella and not really worth the £8 we were charged. At the same time I think of the tiramisu with fondness, which is a rarity! They made us wait for our table more than 40 minutes, but eventually they managed to kick out the previous party, in a away is a sign that they are as welcoming as London gets.

Mele e Pere is utterly reliable. We have eaten here quite a few time now, and the the food and service are always the same excellent standard. The staff are always extremely friendly, the food imaginatively presented with great flavour combinations. The menu is different every time, and the pre-theatre set menu is amazing value.

Always a good meal, we go for the Bubbles menu which is great value and great for a pre show meal.

I would say this that the male staff are all amazing, and the female staff not quite so good, they seem uninterested in customers and service is not so good, that's just an observation and would not stop me going, the last meal seemed rushed and was all over in 30mins but a great waiter always friendly popped another bother of water on the table and the girls did nothing, i had to ask for the free drink and had no bread, the time before it was all done and was fantastic.

i would still be happy too return however, the food it very good

After arrival 2 of our party of 4 got our drinks, the other 2 had to wait a good 20 minutes in spite of us asking their whereabouts. When the drinks eventually arrived they were wrong. One of our oak tables was so wonky the food kept sliding down the table to the person opposite. My fish was ok but the fennel which came with it had a taste that bore no resemblance to fennel. I had to order other vegetables as I left it (I love fennel normally). One, of us had pasta at £18.00 which was bland and unimaginative to say the least. I had put a lot of research into finding a good Italian restaurant for the four of us as my brother flew briefly into London to meet us before heading off again. The meal was very expensive for the poor service and mediocre food and none of us would go back again.
