An Italian restaurant with a difference, Mele e Pere is brought to London’s Soho by Peter Hughes and Andrea Mantovani, previously of the acclaimed Wild Honey. From the moment you arrive and glimpse the row upon row of Murano glass apples and pears in the Mele e Pere window you know you’re in for… something a little different – the basement interior is utterly unlike any Italian restaurant you’ve pulled up a seat in before, lit with anglepoise lamps and decorated with bold abstract artworks. The menu is made up of just a well-chosen handful of bold, confident dishes from throughout Italy; Venetian fish, Sicilian prawns, heartier offerings of red meats and tripe from Rome and the north. Desserts, equally typically Italian, are worth leaving a little room for, everything down to the handmade ice cream earning rave reviews from even the fussiest critics. Mele e Pere’s wine list includes around thirty bins at a range of prices.

Food was fab, one of the best Italian's I've been to. Staff were lovely too. I would happily return.

Our second visit to Mele e Pere within a week. The kitchen problem from last week appeared to be resolved, and service was back to its normal very efficient level. We tried one of the pasta main courses this time, which was very good, though not exceptional - as the meat and fish dishes normally are. Starters were excellent, the staff were as always very friendly, and once again the value for money on the three courses + prossecco menu is quite outstanding.

Mele e Pere was quieter than usual, probably due to holidays and the extremely hot weather. The downstairs restaurant was deliciously cool after the unpleasantly warm and humid atmosphere outside. Unusually, service on the main course was rather slow, maybe due to a problem in the kitchen - we noticed that nothing hot emerged from the kitchen for around 30 minutes. As a result, we had to hurry a little on the desserts in order to leave in time for the theatre. However, the staff were helpful (and, as always, extremely friendly), bringing desserts and the bill very quickly. The quality of the food more than made up for the delay - both our starters and main courses were excellent. Sensational value on the three courses + prossecco deal - I have no idea how they can produce food of this quality at the price! This restaurant remains one of our all-time favourites.

Decent Italian food and fantastic value for money. Pleasant staff and ambiance. A real find for a good value meal, particularly post theatre.

Pre theatre is excellent value for money. Nice room, nice buzz. Let down by not great service - lots of staff but doing not much. Had to ask for menus, ask for water, chase for the glass of fizz incl in the menu.
Food however very delicious and nice quality.

The food was as good as usual, but the service was patchy. Maybe they were short staffed.
As a result, we ended up with our bread halfway through our first course, and our first course served when we were drinking our aperitif. We cancelled the wine we chose for our starter, so we ended up buying less wine. Some might say a healthier result!

Enjoyed a great meal here with a friend I haven't seen in years. It was quite a loud place to catch up, but the food and service were delicious and we had a thoroughly good meal. I had been before for a friend's engagement and will definitely be going back again!

The menu has been shortened considerably since my last visit. The food was good except the dishes were far too salty. The chef might think this enhances the flavour, but there comes a point where it makes the food unpalatable. It's much better to let diners add salt to suit their own taste.

Great vermut menu with small but well crafted Italian menu.
I’ve been to Mele e Pere for a quick lunch, drinks with co-workers and dinner with friends - always excellent! Pre-theatre menu offers great value for money option.

Difficult to get waiter to see you if you are sitting near the decor book shelf as it obstructs view. Absolutely delicious and set menu is very good value though.

I thought the quality of the food and service very good for the deal we received. Lunchtime 3 courses and a glass of prosecco for £20 very good.
Service was great as the restaurant was quiet due to the royal wedding being on tv, and no pressure to stick to the 2 hr time slot

We booked a pre theatre slot at 5pm and not surprisingly the restaurant was quiet so expected to service to be good. Unfortunately this was not the case, drinks took a while and in the end I opened the wine as the waitress struggling and she still hadn't brought the beer I had ordered. Food was nice but I had to chase for the second bottle and had a long wait to order desert.

I'd been the previous week with my wife and came back with a colleague to drink more vermouth and try some dishes I'd fancied but not had on the previous occasion (like the Salt Cod carpaccio).

Yes - I will return for a third visit.

Found this place as I wanted to redeem my Opentable voucher in Soho and they take them.
Upstairs is a vermouth bar and downstairs is a bar and trattoria. There is a vermouth happy hour(s) 5-7pm. I can't remember when I last (if ever) drank vermouth on its own as an apperitif but I recommend it.

The menu is small and quirky (not your bog standard Italian) and the food is good. I like the ambience downstairs. I was with my wife but came back with a business colleague the following week as there is a buzz but you can carry out a conversation.

So glad I found this and will be back yet again soon.

Catch up with friends and had table in the corner, which was nice as it meant we had more space and privacy. However it also meant we got somewhat forgotten by the waitresses!

Really enjoyed our meal here prior to a show at the Piccadilly Theatre.
We arrived a bit late but our table was still held and they rushed the food to ensure we were on time for the theatre. We had the 3 course meal which was great value at £20 each. The pasta with mushrooms was very tasty but the portion size was small but the 3 courses was sufficient.
Great meal and I would go again.

We were there to celebrate our anniversary but disappointingly there were no special touches from the restaurant even though we'd mentioned that the reservation was for a special celebration. However, the food was delicious and lovely and my first try of vermouth was very positive.
