Food was excellent! Service was wonderful. We had an earlier than typical dinner reservation because we had tickets for a comedy show later tonight, so there were plenty of open tables on an early Thursday night. The food was very very good. We were happy with the experience all around, and would definitely go back👍🏻
👍🏻👍🏻great job. As a couple with 4 children under 13 years old, we don't get out much. We had a very pleasant experience and enjoyed ourselves very much. We would definitely return and suggest it to other couples seeking the same..
My wife and I used to go to Melograno at its original location almost 15 years ago and were excited to see the new location on a recent visit. I ordered as many dishes as possible and was so impressed with everything, especially the peppercorn pork chop, the burrata, and the polpette. And the service was as great as we remember back in the day. And we got the bill and were stunned at how little it all cost - such great value.
Food was truly amazing. From the starting table bread to the dessert, each course got better. It was packed and a little noisy, but we didn’t mind. Service was just good, but I’m sure the business impacted our server’s ability to give us her full attention.
A neighborhood favorite of mine. Yummy food and excellent service.
The place was well set. Very clean. Got there and gave us a very nice table. The problem was that since we sat down they wanted to get rid of us. They tried for us to order quickly but I told her we wanted some appetizers first. She asked If we wanted to also order the main course right away.
We ordered, dine and asked for deserts. They were brought and the check almost at the same time. We did not ordered the check. We just opened a bottle of wine before ordering deserts. Some of the guests wanted coffee, so we asked for it. Since the deserts were amazing, we had one more. They took the check away and brought it with the coffee. We had to almost swallowed the bottle of good wine.
In summary, the food was really good but the service, we felt unwanted.
Delicious and nice atmosphere and service. The pasta was cooked to perfection.
Server Adam was outstanding. Timing of food coming out was perfect.
I was drawn by the favorable reviews. The food did not disappoint. We started with a pizza that had peaches and pesto at the recommendation of our server. I was a little skeptical but it was a definite winner. Then we decided to try the pork chop with green peppercorn sauce and split the simple pasta with Romano and black pepper. The pork chop was cooked perfectly and the peppercorn sauce was amazing. I learned not to discount simple pasta dishes and this is certainly no exception. It was fabulous. Next time I am in Philly, this will be a priority stop. I highly recommend it. It is BYOB.
Impeccable food and warm and friendly service, efficient and enthusiastic without being intrusive. We will return as soon as we can!
Food is always amazing....when you book a 5pm...really sit a rude customer next to you...when the entire restaurant is open.
The food was absolutely incredible, with service and value to match.
Excellent. That’s what is said about Melograno. Everything was 5⭐️. Can’t wait to return.
Could not be happier with our decision to dine at Malograno. On a very hot day in Philly the restaurant was cool and welcoming. The staff is very professional and accommodating. Our appetizers and desserts were delicious, but the real prize were our entrees. My salmon was prepared perfectly with all the right sides and my wife's amatriciana was out of this world. Of course, being a BYOB is also a major plus. Love this place and will be back often.
Party of 4; we all enjoyed our meals. The pork chop was amazing! Staff was always checking in with us. Will continue to bring friends and family there. Always love a byob :)
Fabulous food and ambiance! Semolina croquettes we’re great! Specials were delicious. BYOB
Excellent vice was average because very busy but everyone helped to make it a very enjoyable dining experience. Recommend for sure.
The food was very good overall. The background music in the restaurant is on the louder side which creates a somewhat noisy atmosphere. Service was a bit on the slow side. The restaurant is BYOB which is fine but they surprisingly don’t offer iced tea - just carbonated beverages and water. Overall our experience was good and the great taste of the food makes you easily forget about the rest.
I've lived in Philly for 16 years and SHAME on me for not coming sooner. Exquisite!!!! You must try at least two of the pastas!!! And the lamb chops...the chef...well...I'm in awe.
I’ll be honest. I don’t usually trust Open Table reviews, because they tend to give the same level of attention to mediocre places as to gems like Melograno. But I really wanted to make this point — Melagrano is like a trip to Italy. The decor feels like a local trattoria, the service is friendly and the pasta is head and shoulders over nearly every other Italian restaurant in Philadelphia. The fazzoletti with duck ragu? Rich and somehow super light. The Amatriciana? The tomato sauce is not acidic but doesn’t taste like sugar either. It’s magic. Because it’s a BYOB prices are reasonable too. I haven’t been there in a long time, and I had forgotten just how good it is. It’s comfort food perfectly done and in a relaxing spot. I won’t take so long to visit again.
If you are looking for a welcoming place to go, great service, minimal fuss and delicious food with fresh ingredients, this is a must try. A reliable place with memorable dishes that has been a fixture in the Philadelphia food scene for a long time!
The meal and the service were lovely as always. Our waiter suggested the artichokes as an accompaniment and WOW. I could eat an entire meal of those artichokes.
Everything from the food to the service was excellent
really good food and sevice- however, the noise level is just too loud and the restaurant was not filled
Chef is an outstanding professional. Coming from Rome 20 years ago, he started his trade in his father's restaurant.
He continues the tradition owning now 3 restaurants in the Philadelphia area.
Friday June 18.
I have not been at Melograno for a long time and did not rememberd why... this is the reason. The food is among the very best in the city; but the noise level is unbearabke. They should really should do something about it. My date was coming from NYC and even with the long drive we stayef only one hour and had to go fo dessert somewhere else because it was impossible to talk.
It was lovely to return to an old favorite “post-pandemic”. We shared the delicious pork meatballs and polenta for an appetizer, and then we each ordered a pasta dish. One (with mushrooms) was perfect, but the pasta in second (with duck ragu) was way over-cooked (soft and mushy). Very politely we brought it to the attention of our server who cheerfully had the chef redo it with another pasta. Overall, a positive first experience back in the world.
The food was fine, because the main seating area is a large open space, when the room begins to fill, conversation can be difficult.
As soon as we walked in, the hostess gave us a table right in front of their table/desk which it was not ideal. the room was completely empty. not sure why she choose that one. she moved us then to a different table and it worked better,
We had to wait for 15 minutes for a server to come to help us. I actually had to get his attention.
They were not quick even though the guy who served us was friendly and very nice.
the food is good! The pinsa is delicious and the pasta as well. I did not have space for dessert.
Food is always good nice atmosphere our server Aaron was super efficient byob is a plus it’s just always so noisy even half empty
Loved this restaurant for years. First visit since lock down. Food was terrible! Dry. Almost no sauce on fazzoleti. Fettuccini was also dry but over-packed with nuts. Waiter assured me food was prepared by original chef-owner. It must have been reheated from some other day. What a disappointment!
The wait staff were genuinely welcoming and attentive without being overly so. The warm goat cheese salad, pizza (mushrooms and cheese) and handkerchief pasta with duck ragout were all excellent, as was the tiramisu. A memorable experience. Thank you!
Decided to dine here based on a PhillyMag review, so glad we did.
The food was well prepared, the hospitality cordial and generous, the overall experience delightful.
Excellent atmosphere and service. The food was authentic.
Friendly staff, good selection of menu items. Ocotopus appetizer was a winner!
One of the best Italian restaurants in Philly. Highly recommended and will be back.
We dined with a party of five at Melograno on a Saturday night in May. It was excellent. I had not been there for a few years, and we gathered for a small post-covid reunion of friends from NYC and DC. All aspects of the evening were exemplary. We were greeted at the door, seated promptly, served attentively and the food was really good. If you hadn’t guessed, Melograno is an Italian BYO restaurant, but it is a cut above. The menu is compact, but with plenty of variety. We had the Insalata with arugula and prosciutto and the burrata appetizer, both excellent. The menu has pastas and mains and we tried some of each. Two of us tried the pork chop and it was really good. We had the lamb lollipops, likewise excellent. Then we had the duck breast pasta and the cacio e pepe, also very strong. But perhaps the main ingredient for the evening was fun. The atmosphere of fun and good cheer from everyone at the restaurant was evident from the beginning: they were happy we were there and it was delightful. We finished by trying all of the desserts and they were all good. And did I mention the prices are reasonable? No pasta over $20 and my pork chop was the most expensive thing on the menu at $26!! Run, don’t walk to Melograno.
The staff was very friendly and accomodating: 1)we arrived 30 mins early and were told no problem. 2)we didn't like the first table offered, again no problem. All on a busy Saturday night! The food and waiter were great too! This was a favorite spot before Covid and I'm so glad they survived. We will definitely be back!
Wonderful food. Excellent service. Beautifully decorated. Prices are very moderate
