Not the most inventive tasting menu in Boston, but always fantastic preparation and presentation, and wonderful atmosphere. Plus great people watching out of the giant windows.
A fantastic meal and overall dining experience. Staff made our meal memorable in celebrating my father's birthday!
Food quality was high but not enough for me to justify the prices. Favorite food there was the warm roll. Water was refilled consistently which I liked but was disappointed to see that the dine out menu offered only one dessert unlike their online dineout menu. My server did not appear to like my question of if I could swap it for something less dairy heavy and without espresso. After that everything came out completely dairy free for me which I didnt ask for. When I sampled my friends meals (which werent made dairy free) the server appeared very upset. An uncomfortable situation for me due to this reason.
Our Menton Experience was memorable for the food and presentation. I would like to recommend to others but cannot realistically because of the prices. We appreciate that you participate in Dine Out Boston which allowed us to attend. Just wish we could afford fine dining more often. Thank you!
We went for restaurant week. The Forst course was quite bland. My husband got the soup and I got the salad. They were somewhat tasteless. We both got the pasta entree and that was delicious. I think sometimes during restaurant week, as expected, you won’t get the best of the best. Overall pretty good experience but not blown away. Maybe would come back not during restaurant week for a special occasion.
We celebrated our friend’s birthday there. The environment is very modern and chic. Service in general is good.
This was my first visit to Menton. I had cousins in town for a few days and we decided to check out Menton during Boston Dine Out week. The decor and ambience was comfortable and upscale providing a nice background for conversation. The first corse was delicious, the seafood very fresh and high quality. The second course was disappointing. The staff was professional and pleasant. Overall we were a bit disappointed with the food.
I took my best friend of 52 years here for her birthday! Food/wine was excellent. I would highly recommend and come back again- nice ambience and great service too.
Excellent food and wine list. Turbot, scallops & pheasant were terrific. Definitely get the foie gras with a glass of sauterne
The food at the restaurant week was between terrible and unedible. I am sure their regular menu is better than that but still... why would they damage their image is beyond me. Maybe they are having financial difficulties or whatever.
Went there for three course meal at Dine out Boston week. The food and atmosphere are fantastic, a great place for a romantic date
There were several really good things but overall the food did not live up to the reputation and the pricing is not justified. We won’t be back.
Very expensive, marginal meal. Service was spot on, attentive, and well trained. Restaurant week meal was not enough yo encourage us to return.
It was restaurant week menu so they must crank out lots of mediocre food to the masses! Hopefully their normal 8 course dinner for $176 p p is a lot tastier!
So good! The Restaurant week menu was amazing. The bread selection stellar and the service impeccable! We will come back again!
Have wanted to try this place for a while and waited for a special occasion, our anniversary. Sadly we were disappointed. We had heard it has the best service and food in the city and were excited to try. The atmosphere is concrete and wood, stark and "modern". Thanks to a large party on the other side of the room and poor acoustics it was quite loud.
We saw the dine out Boston menu as an option and it looked good so we tried it. I asked about the red wines by the glass (there were 5 choices), and the waitress pointed to the most expensive one and said "try this one", without any description of any of the wines. I asked about a few and picked one, which was good. We ordered one 2 course menu and one 3 course menu, telling the waitress we'd like to look at the dessert menu for a 2nd option after our meal, since there was only one choice on the dine out menu.
For the first course option we both opted for the bouillabaisse which was good, but came in a shallow bowl with only about 3 tablespoons of broth. The pasta was decent but no taste of truffles as described in the menu, which was what drew me to it. The pork was ok, but came with a large rim of fat. The kale with it was very good. Dessert was espresso mouse which was very good, but they didn't offer a plate to share or ask us if we wanted another dessert which we had indicated. I had to flag someone down to fill my water glass and also had to wave for our waitress to get the bill after sitting with our empty dessert plate on the table for 10 minutes. We would have ordered a port or coffee if offered but never were. They did bring a plate with a few sweets that said "happy anniversary" on it at the end which was nice. As we got our coats and left the hostess said "good night", but didn't ask how was everything.. not a big deal, but fit with the overall impression of the night.
I am sad to write this review and especially surprised about the service, given the past reputation of Menton.
Birthday dinner- decided to not do restaurant week menu although next time will for better value
Dine out Boston choices were a little limited re mains - no fish or veggie option.
The room did become chilly, with a draft at one point. Not sure if it was after the group left the private room and a door was left open.
Food was excellent.
Service was perfect.
Excellent food, perfect ambiance and very knowledgeable and helpful waitstaff. The additional tastings from the chef are wonderful additions to the meal. Great experience all around.
First experience at Menton. Pretty setting. Table for two too large for quiet conversation. Noise level was excessive. Raucous pop music irritating. Bowl of red wine glass ridiculously large with a too thin stem. Difficult to handle and not elegant. Great service. Appetizer was very good. Main courses were Ok (pasta) to very good(pork). Chocolate dessert was the best part of the meal. So French to serve small candies and cookies at the end of the meal. The best one was the fruit gelee. Chocolate Madeleine needed more chocolate. Not crazy about Macarons,so can’t evaluate. Portions small overall, but maybe that’s because of Restaurant Week.
The Boston Dine Out menu was limited to choice of two firsts and 2 mains, but all were good. The wine selection is extraordinary, and expensive but with some good choices that are reasonably priced. A very thoughtful list. The service is truly outstanding including the glassware and the teamwork of a staff that is most professional but not at all stuffy. It’s a very pretty spot and not noisy.
However, it is the service that makes it a special night out.
Very high end. Food quality and service matched expectations.
We are looking for a replacement for L’Espalier. This is not it.
Wow .....this place is incredible. Our server was over the top 100% devoted to our experience....John George. Everyone else as well. The food is the best I have had in awhile. Incredible Manhattan!
John George our server was amazing! He answered all of our questions and was very interesting and knowledgeable. We would definitely go back because of the wonderful food and service! Thanks
I haven't been to Menton in several years, and joined on Valentine's Day weekend - Menton offered a holiday menu in-place of the "Chef's Whim" (it was not my intent to visit on this weekend, but rather it's when it worked for my schedule).
Previously Menton was one of my favorite restaurants in Boston. I must say on this particular night, they weren't on their game: the food was tasty but not terribly original nor creative; service from senior staff was fine, but there seemed to be a number of inexperienced or staff-in-training. Wine pairing I thought was very good. For the price that evening ($900 for two of us, including wine and gratuity), my expectations are understandably elevated... I may give Mention a try again on a regular night, but value-wise I'm not in a rush to go back.
We were given a very generous 500.00 gift certificate from a dear friend. First my husband and I went with another friend on her 60th B-Day and all had two drinks, shared two appetizers and each had dinner and got back 150.00 in remaining money to use at a later date. It is expensive yes,. But the service and the food and the care they put into everything is amazing and a great experience for a very special occasion. If you value fine exquisite food and attentive and refined service and if you can get there I highly recommend. We went again with the friend who gave us the gift certificate to use the remaining value on the card and it was just as sublime. If you watch Chef's Table ( highly recommend that too if you like fine dining and exquisite food) it is like being in an episode off that show. They staff was very generous and gifted us small plates so we could try extra things. Wonderful top notch experience.
The chefs tasting was amazing. We had some issues with service, but they made every effort to make it up to us. I will definitely return as I would love to try some other dishes.
For entree, the waygu gnocchi was disappointing. Overall good service and ambiance.
Could not have been better, simply amazing. The Chef's whim is just divine.
Dinner, ambiance, and service are all excellent at Menton and honoring the relais & chateaux feel. As a solo diner, I would have appreciated less gaps in between courses (tasting menu was divine) but this would not stop me from returning. Worth multiple visits!
The service was impeccable! The food combination was bursting with flavor and each course surprised us more than the last. Wonderful experience!
