Great Sunday roast and brilliant veggie and vegan options.
Seated by he window we were very cold. The applewood smoked burger was excellent the fish and chips were very good but the chicken kebab which 2 in the party had was disappointing. Given that it was from the 'Carnivore' menu it was very heavy on salad and light on meat.
Good took over an hour and was not that tasty or worth the money paid
We were given complimentary desserts but they weren’t all that either
Expensive for what we received
Really nice place to eat. Went on a Sunday so limited main menu based around a roast dinner, though plenty of options for starters and puddings.
Food really good, children's menu smaller version of the main menu and half the price.
Staff were excellent.
We booked into Metropolis as we are both Vegan and love any restaurant that has taken the time to create a vegan menu. We both had the Vegan roast dinner and desserts.
The Roast was delicious, with crispy roast potatoes, freshly cooked veg, a very tasty quorn roast joint and wonderfully savoury gravy. The only thing I would have liked is more roast potatoes ( 3 doesn't feel like enough to me or my husband). We both devoured our desserts too ( chocolate brownie and a chocolate orange cheese cake). We've been to Metropolis before and love the atmosphere and the building itself which they've decorated in a very elegant art deco theme.
We also had some very friendly waiters attend to us so we felt very at home.
I genuinely can't wait to go back again for more tasty food and good company.
Staff shouting at each other across the restaurant
Fly in glass
My wife and i had a great night, the food and drink was outstanding, the service exceptional and to top it off there was Salsa dancing for the night. Cant fault it and the social intent of Metropolis is at the heart of what community and social cohesion is all about.
Our food was excellent….a fabulous healthy tasty salad with plentiful chicken and posh sausage and mash.
The styling of Metropolis is very Art Deco…attractive and interesting…a fabulous exhibition upstairs.
Service was friendly and attentive.
Welcome greeting at the door.
Prompt and efficient service.
Pleasant and friendly staff.
The food was expensive (the Sunday roast + pudding option is £22.95 per person). Two people plus drinks then that's a bill of well over £50. I'm happy to pay that for food, but it needs to be of extremely good quality. The pork was a little tough, but overall the food was of good quality (and plentiful). And we'll likely return to check-out the menu on other days!
Good service ,nice atmosphere and would visit again. Very pleasant surroundings and decor. Friendly welcome .
Really pleasant, seated near the open front window, watching the world go by. Delicious burgers. Student discount a bonus.
Would have liked a happy hour.
We appreciate the fact that there is a separate vegan menu, but the food was disappointing.
We had a bruchetta, which was nice... then a vegan kebab and a home-made burger for 14 pounds.
The kebab was OK, but nothing special. The wrap/naan was dry and cardboard like.
The burger was tasteless, it fell apart and was disappointing and flavourless. The chips weren't tasty either.
We also had a mojito, which was disappointing and we're not sure if there was any rum in it. If there was, then it must have been one shot.
10 pounds for a poor quality mojito, 13-14 for a really poor burger and whatever we paid for the kebab means that we spend 60 pounds for a low/poor quality meal. We wouldn't re-order anything other than a bruchetta. The waiting time was a bit too long considering there were only a few people in.
On a plus side, the atmosphere is nice but we've always liked this building and the staff was friendly and attentive.
Overall, the food was overpriced for the quality and the quality was really poor. It feels like the menu was created to match meat/veggie menus, but it wasn't tried and tested by a single vegan person.
Metropolis had a good idea, but it was very poorly executed. A lot more work is required to improve the quality of food. Until the menu changes, we wouldn't come back. Not even for drinks, because the mojito was just a poor 3rd cousin of an actual mojito.
Food was lovely. Although not a lot of choice for gluten free customers.
I would certainly go there again.
Food was ok. The advertisement of the soft drink with the meal was not clear at all. My freinds ordered a orange juice wen bill came the waitress said the orange juice didn't count as the soft drink. So that needs to be clear.
Lots of options for everyone - meat, vegetarian and vegan too. Good value and really nice decor and location.
Enjoyed my meal here but they could do with ironing out a few things. We went on a Sunday and were a little surprised that the only thing served on Sundays were variations on a roast and you had to order 2 courses (the normal weekday menu is unavailable - something that isn't made obvious on their website). There was no option just to order a main course. I dined with my wife and 11 year old son. There was no kids alternative on the menu but on asking we were told that he could have a kids version of the roast - something that is not highlighted on the menu.
The drinks menu was also short on detail. Not a bad selection of beers but little detail on the menu of what they are e.g. one beer was described as "Session IPA" with no details on the brewery or strength of the beer. they dould also do with a cask beer alongside the keg offerings.
One of our orders was incorrect on arrival - my wife was given gammon instead of beef. My son and I had our meals but my wife had to wait while they sorted out her roast beef. The veg also arrived in instalments.
The price of the food is also very high for Coventry. We paid over £70 for 2 courses each and a drink each (2 adults and 1 child). To charge these prices the food and service need to be top notch. The food was good but not quite good enough to justify the price and the whole experience just needs to be taken up a level.
We did enjoy our meal but probably won't be back soon because it doesn't quite jsutify the prices charged. I desperately want to like this restaurant because of the concept and because Coventry needs a better restaurant scene and hope it improves as time goes on.
Had high hopes for the place but it was let down by slow service and the food wasn't quite as good as we expected. Perhaps other items on the menu would have been better, so will give them another try sometime.
We had a fabulous meal from the meat menu. The wine was lovely and good value. The service was excellent. We would recommend and definitely visit again
I wanted something for a mid-week , light meal that was nutritious (trying to lose that Covid stone!) I had the chef's large salad. It was exactly that! Large and really tasty and the textures really worked well and made a great salad - not everyone can do that!
Confusing menu for anyone with gluten intolerance. The food was ok but not outstanding...
Disappointing Vegan choice on a Sunday compared to regular week day menu. However all deserts are Vegan (Not exactly clear on the menu). Roast Beef was well cooked. Not sure which Cauliflower Cheese dish was vegan but they tasted very different so one was!
We had the shared 'Carnivore' plate which, was tasty & good value for money. Service was a bit and could have been more attentive
Excellent selection of food including vegetarian and vegan and beers. Service very good and polite. Didn't feel rushed. Relaxing, spotlessly clean. Looking forward to returning.
Every item we ordered they came back and said we had to order something else because they ran out of ingredients, or they just served up the dish with key elements missing and hoped we wouldn’t notice (happened with both stater and mains). Service was extremely slow, most of the time there weren’t any service staff out on the floor so you couldn’t get anyone’s attention. Communication between kitchen and wait staff seemed extremely poor.
Very brightly lit. Staff very welcoming. Food ok. Vegetarian options seemed to please those who had them.
Great place to eat if you fancy something a bit better than street food at Assembly Gardens or if just out enjoying Coventry during the City of Culture. Good value and food very good. Vegetarian and Vegan options available.
Recommend a Culture Shock cocktail! Booking recommended particularly in the evening.
Overall the cajun steak flatbread was lovely, and the portions were big. Unfortunately the steak was a little bit tough but still edible.
That's my only fault but it was a minor one and probably more to do with my preference than anything else.
I would definitely come back
Excellent service and excellent food with generous portions . Will definitely recommend and will return
Lovely place, service was quick, food was tasty and good value
We had a nice evening, dining with friends, food was very nice and service good.
However, I think it may be a good idea for the staff when giving out the menus advise what is not available that night. Saves having to make a second choice at short notice.
First visit. A big birthday balloon had been put in the table as I had mentioned that it was a birthday on the booking… a lovely unexpected touch. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Meals mostly seems to have a choice of meat, vegetarian and vegan versions on 3 different menus and the food was lovely. A really nice building and welcoming atmosphere. Recommend
3 friends met for dinner at 7.30pm. 2 first-comers ordered drinks. 5 mins later our friend arrived, who ordered drink and was promptly served, We had to wait another 5 mins for ours.
We weren’t ready to order when server arrived so took extra time, after a good 10 mins server returned. The order was taken 3 x mains and asked for table water as not yet offered. This was now 8pm. 3-4 Staff all hovering behind bar chatting, no sense of service or attention to customers. At 8.10pm -I approached the bar as no-one was looking over and I asked to speak to the manager and stated we were waiting for table water to arrive and the service so far was unsatisfactory. Our Server still just standing around. Manager apologised and offered discount. The food arrived almost 8.40pm - so 40 mins after ordering and 70 mins after we sat down. No-one came to us after starting our meal to ask if all was ok, standard industry practice. It wasn’t busy not even a quarter of tables occupied. The food was just acceptable and we all agreed it was barely average and wouldn’t return. The surroundings were nice and clean. In summary totally inadequate levels of service, supervision of staff and accountability for customers barely demonstrated. Food is average. 2 good members of staff who served drinks and cleared table.
The food was fabulous and my vegan friend was amazed by the choice of food on offer, that she had the choice of everything a meat eater could have but in vegan options was a unique experience for her. We all absolutely enjoyed our meals.
The service was great, our waiters were friendly and attentive. I would suggest however, that you lower the lights for a more intimate ambience, it felt a bit stark and bright. Otherwise a great place to eat and a brilliant evening. A fabulous transformation of a bar we always visited in our younger days
Fabulous decor, great pornstar martini, lovely food, excellent service...we wil be back
Lovely food, excellent service, great atmosphere!
While we were eating, at least 4 staff member came to ask if all was ok, once would’ve been sufficient.
When meal was finished, 3 more came & asked if we wanted anything else, we felt rushed to leave!!
I’m sure they’re newly trained & will improve with time.
Really nice place. Quality of food and service was great. The decor was lush. Very Great Gatsby. Would recommend.
Fantastic restaurant and will certainly be back!! The owner welcomed us and was so passionate about the restaurant and the staff. We will be recommending metropolis to our family and friends and hopefully back again very soon ps the food was brilliant too 😉
Absolutely spot-on wait service, so friendly and polite. Restaurant is beautifully appointed, clean and well presented. Staff were up-front about the restaurant being a training kitchen, so meals came out slightly staggered, but the staff kept us up to date on our meals and were able to fulfill all our dietary requests! Will definitely be visiting again!
