A meal in Mezlai is a window into Emirati culture, a warm welcome to the long history of Arabian hospitality and a journey into flavours as old as the sands of time, which taste as fresh and inspired as this city of tomorrow. No stopover in Abu Dhabi is complete without sampling the local flavours and dining as the locals do.
Beautiful restaurant in a fabulous hotel. They accommodated our party of about 15 in large room where we were the only people dining. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Awesome place.
The restaurant was nearly empty when we went at 6pm. The service was generally warm and helpful, and we sat beneath a canopy outside with a heat lamp to keep us warm. The appetizers were excellent -- a carrot-ginger soup which was simple and delicious and the fried spinach cakes which were very tasty when topped with various chutneys and sauces. The main courses - lamb chops, chicken, and a fish curry - were largely a disappointment. The portion sizes were enormous (the chicken dish had an entire chicken, a heap of mushrooms and chickpeas, and a mound of rice), and while the flavors were good, the food lost much of its appeal after the first few bites. Overstuffed, we were not able to finish some of our food and naturally did not order dessert, which is a bummer because the dessert options looked intriguing. Overall, the meal was not worth the very high cost.
The food was not worth the price, although they were large portions. You pay for dining in the grounds of the majestic Emirates Palace. I was expecting more flavours and more from the food for the price I paid, but it didn’t live up to expectations.
El lugar fantástico, la comida excelente y el servicio muy bueno
