Mia - Morningside
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Will definitely be back. Only criticism would be the plumbing smell from the downstairs bathroom was obvious for us dining down there but only when the door was left open, which was quite a lot - maybe a closer on the toilet door would help?
Seated in the basement.
Distinct smell of toilet unfortunately
Will be back for sure - great with or without kids!
Food was amazing! Service was on point and the value was fantastic! I will definitely be returning. The only negative was that when we first arrived the restaurant seemed fairly cold, all 5 of us said the same thing when we were seated at our table but having said that once we started to eat and drink we did not notice as much.
Had such a lovely experience here, food was cracking and there service was fab! Would come back again :)
Hogmanay dinner was from a nice menu of good choices and we picked well and the food was lovely and good portions . The service was good and friendly respite they were very busy . The restaurant upstairs is a bit tired and needs some upgrade but a nice night nevertheless.
Been many times and despite it being really busy the team were great and food was excellent.
Delicious food, great service, overall would definitely recommend 👍
Our third meal @ Mia Morningside,
first set menu. Cosy restaurant, friendly staff, good menu choices.
Lovely steak, perfectly cooked!
My brother and I dined here on Saturday night at half seven our table wasn’t ready had to wait about 15mins no big deal really. We noticed there is a musty drain smell in the restaurant which was quite unpleasant the menus are printed on the inside of old vinyl record sleeves which are filthy we sat at a table right next to all the cutlery and a stairwell for the staff which led to the basement very annoying.I ordered the scallops which was a very wet dish swimming in sauce and quite tasteless my brother had the prawns which he enjoyed. We both opted for the half pizza and seafood pasta which was very tasty with a good array of seafood with some of the prawns still in there shell you can imagine the mess our fingers were in but there was no offer of a napkin water bowl or wipe very basic things you get in any restaurant. We also noticed that every diner around us after they paid there bill all received a limoncello shot a nice touch unfortunately we weren’t offered one obviously not part of the regular morning side clique it’s these little touches that I would personally never return
The food (fresh and generous) and the service were excellent and good value for money but a few things:
A service charge was applied and there were only seven people there. I would have tipped more anyway but
the info from the website set the level at eight.
The second reminder from opentable Indicated the time as 7.30 till 9.00.
This wasn’t in the first confirmation.
I phoned the restaurant to sort this out.
There was no problem, but had I been aware of this I wouldn’t have booked in the first place.
Very noisy - I have a hearing problem but this applies to every restaurant now.
Luckily I had cash on me but card system had broken down.
We will be back
Good food and service. Just a little annoying that we didn’t know it was cash only. As we all had cards to pay
The risotto seemed as if it might have needed a little longer cooking eg the texture of rice and onion was a little hard. Also we spotted before paying, that we had been slightly over-charged, one of us being asked to pay for a 3 course lunch when we had ordered a 2- course lunch.
We had a meal at Mia in Morningside as the main part of a night out for my wife's birthday. However, the food was delivered so quickly that we had had both courses delivered to the table within 30 minutes of arriving at the restaurant and were finished eating within 45 minutes. The staff seemed to be on a mission to get us out of the restaurant as quickly as possible. In addition the restaurant was so cold I was having to hold my drink with both hands because of the lack of feeling. If the heating was not working we should have been notified in advance or when we arrived.
In terms of the food my starter and my wife's main course were underwhelming.
There were 4 of us. The Bruschetta was basically tomatoes on garlic toast. The steak main course was very good, but the risottos were very average. Service was slow, when the restaurant was not particularly busy.
Good honest Italian menu well prepared and presented. A nice bistro ambience. Good service. Reasonable prices, including wine prices.
Excellent food, excellent value. A really good dining experience which I would commend to anyone.
Simply class. Food lovely. Staff excellent in all ways. Didn't have to wait long at all. Nice to see smiles on staffs faces
The food was delicious and served in good time with good service all round
We had a very enjoyable meal here. There was a decent choice on the menu & the food was good & reasonably priced. House wine also a good price. The service was friendly & efficient, can recommend.
Very tasty meal, attractive interior, good service! Only small niggle - the interior needs some soft materials to improve the acoustics! It was hard at times to converse with ease.
Great food and service.
Food and service was very good in a nice relaxed atmosphere.
The downstairs seating area was cold and had a slightly unpleasant smell. The service was courteous but slow. The food was average in quality.
Really good meal. Pizza was excellent. Definitely recommend booking, at least at the weekends, by the look of it. We went on a Saturday and it was packed. Service was a little slow at times but it was to be expected given how busy it was.
My second attempt at Mia Restaurant. This time even wors than the first time! My extremely overpriced penne with seafood ( £24.99) consisted in poor cooked pasta and some shellfish in the shell, no special cutlery so most food couldn't be retrieved from the crab leg. We needed to stand up 3 times and go to the bar asking for our bill while the waiters sat next to us having their dinner. Nobody in charge. Very, very disappointed, never will go again.
Great food and great service.Highly recommend if you like Italian cuisine
Family meal - excellent food for kids and adults, friendly and quick service. Couldn’t be better.
Mixed reviews amongst our group regarding the food- nice enough but definitely nothing special. Service was average with waiters clearing plates while people still eating, had to remind them to bring olives etc. Restaurant was empty when we arrived but a group of 5 squeezed onto a table for 4 with an extra chair put on the end. Probably wouldn’t go back.
A relaxing Italian with a fresh menu. None of the dishes are too challenging from either a taste or portion perspective. Convivial atmosphere with attentive and courteous service. Only criticism - needs a pate dish as a starter!
My favourite Italian restaurant in Edinburgh, always a good choice.
Cooked perfectly to order, my ravioli was the most delicious I have ever eaten, even in Rome!
Never been before, even though I live locally, but will definitely be back.
The food at Mia's was absolutely delicious! There was great sized portions and everything was above expectations! I particularly liked the seafood options on the menu.
Friendly, causal dining. All 4 of us enjoyed our food although one was a bit on the cool side.
Food was very good when it eventually came. But this was negated by the service which was painfully slow, nonchalant, disinterested and terribly poor. The head waiter (hopefully he wasn't the manager otherwise the restaurant has a culture issue) didn't give any warm welcome on arrival, actually looked miffed we had arrived on time for our booking, he did not smile at all, he didn't ask how our meal was once, he didn't smile when we left, and he didn't say thank-you or goodbye when we left. It's not as if we did any actual complaining so he had no reason to be in the huff with us - in hindsight we wish we had and given him a reason to behave like that. We were just a family with 2 young kids. It took them 15 mins to come say hello and take our drinks order, 25 mins for them to even take our food order (even though we asked to order at the same time as our drinks and were told that the orders would be taken separately), a total of 50 mins to bring out some garlic bread and kids pasta, then we had to sit and wait another 25 mins before the adults were served main courses. That's an hour and a quarter to reach a main course. Throughout this the kids (5 and 7) were getting more and more bored and restless, which should have been very obvious to the waiting team had they taken a blind bit of notice or interest - any family restaurant should know how to serve a table with kids. Around this, 4 tables were served before us having arrived/ordered afterwards (we only ate garlic bread and pasta) - in fact a table with only a couple had eaten starters, main courses, and finished coffees before we even got our main courses - having arrived 10 mins after us!! Really nice food, but appalling service - with so many other Italian options around the city, after this 1st visit we won't be back. We recommend the restaurant replaces the disinterested front of house/head waiter, as looking around the tables and seeing other diners' reactions, we were not alone in having this view of him.
Been here a couple of times and the food is always delicious. Would recommend this place to anyone 👍🏻
The restaurant was freezing. We asked for the door to be closed and were told it needed to stay open. Was given lunch menus by one waiter and another came and said the lunch menus were not on on saturday. Food was cold.
We were downstairs and as you came down there was a very strong smell of drains/toilets.... Not a nice smell at all. It was very off-putting. I didn't want to make a fuss at the time as I was with friends but we all found it very unpleasant. Apart from that the food and service was very good.
Please sort the smell as I love this restaurant.
Really lovely meal, friendly, considerate staff, great choice on menu. One of our party has a small appetite so didn’t finish her food and the waiter was concerned there was a problem with it. We’ve never been disappointed at Mia’s.
