I've been coming here every two years for the last 12 years and it never fails to disappoint! Great home cooked food with generous portions
Lovely food and a very varied menu. Would recommend to friends and would eat there again when visiting York.
A really enjoyable place for lunch right in the heart of York at sensible prices. Highly recommended
Had set menu of 2 courses and paid extra for desert came to£16.50 per person good value and food good
Very good but bizarrely mind boggling
Chose this resturant as reviews of food good and never been there before. Choice of food excellent and quality very good. Staff very attentive.
Not much atmosphere and has the feel of a cafe albeit comfortable furnishings.
We did realise this establishment did accommodation until we went to the toilet and then the most bizarre happened. Two apparently residents came into the resturant and sat at the table next to us, unwrapped fish and chips that they had brought from elsewhere and started to eat them!!
The whole resturant then was overcome by the smell of vinegar and you could have been sitting in a chip shop. Not pleasant!
I would go here again but only as a casual visit.
We booked here as we were celebrating our Ruby Wedding Anniversary and had mentioned this on booking through Open Table. Unfortunately the restaurant were obviously unaware of the special occasion which was a shame, as an acknowledgement of this would have added to the evening. I don’t see the point in mentioning it when booking if this info isn’t going to be used.
Despite this we had a lovely evening with friendly staff and tasty food and would definitely recommend Michael’s Brasserie.
The food was really nice, good choice. Just a shame there was a lack of atmosphere. Two sections to the restaurant and we were in what I would class as the 'overflow' bit. It was very quiet.
Great location but reasonable prices. Food was excellent. Promptly served and was piping hot. Good variety on the menu. Friendly, efficient staff.
Good range of 'English' dishes. Curries, roasts and pies in particular.
Efficient service and good value for money.
Used before and found to be very friendly and first class service.
Staff are always helpful and I would highly recommend.
This was a lovely find whilst on holiday in York, very close to York Minster so easy to find. We were made very welcome the waiting staff were terrific very professional. The menu was wholesome food and very tasty. This was not an expensive restaurant and would be one I would recommend
Thank you very much to the staff they were very quick with the service and were attentive towards my mum as it was for her special birthday and even gave her a free desert with a candle. Lovely experience and highly recommend the venue
We reserved a table for s luncheon. The Neal was lovely. If I had one criticism it would be that the main course plates were not warm and as we had a fish dish with sauce it was a little disappointing. But overall would re visit.
Food is very reasonably price, piping hot, plenty of it and plenty of choice, would recommend, staff very friendly and obliging
Good service, excellent portion size and value
St Michael's is our favourite restataunt. Food is always of high quality and staff are very helpful and friendly.
We have been to Michael's Brasserie on several occasions over the years for lunch and have always had an excellent meal, we have introduced it to friends and family, and we were really pleased that we could now book and reserve a table on a Saturday. On this occasion we were joined by 2 friends who had never been before and they too were impressed with the meal, my husband and I will go again next time we visit York.
Had a great evening apart from one chair which which was faulty and broken !!!leaving my friend lying on the floor !!!
Wonderful food and welcoming staff. We go every year to shop and celebrate Christmas early. It's now a tradition that we look forward to.
We never tire of dining here. The food is always excellent and the portions generous. The menu is extensive with something for everyone AND the food is served hot, not warm!
My husband will only agree to Christmas present shopping in York on a Saturday if I promise a lunch time visit to Michael’s Brassiere.
We had booked in advance for 12.30pm and was so pleased we did as people were been turned away.
We chose to eat off the festive menu - excellent value at £13.50 for two courses or £16.00 for three. My husband had an old favourite of beef and onion soup for starters and I had deep fried goats cheese with salad - both absolutely delicious!
Main course had a variety of meals to pleasemeat lovers and vegetarians alike and all sounding yummy but we both chose homemade pies; one chicken with ham and one beef. Melt in the mouth meat and perfectly cooked vegetables!
We had intended to have pudding, but we were too full!
Friendly attentive service. Good quality food and good variety on menu.
This is a classic English restaurant offering delicious traditional dishes often with an interesting twist as well as a wide variety of other choices in food and drink. Savoury pies and sweet and savoury puddings to be enjoyed - at which they excel. Generous amounts of food - well cooked , flavoursome and clearly prepared on the premises. Served by a friendly and efficient staff.
A very good, restaurant in the centre of York not far from the Minster in pleasant surroundings. Have eaten here on a good number of occasions and I have never yet been disappointed. What more can one say!
Never disappointed here. Great food great service. Great choice.
We try to visit Michael's every year we visit York. Must say I was disappointed this time, it appears to have lost some of its appeal.
The meals we ordered were average but nothing special, I've had better in local independently run pubs.
Basing my opinion on my meal alone which I chose from the specials board which was the chicken tikka, I said to my wife that I'd paid less in Morrison's for the equivalent, the naan bread was obviously from a supermarket due to the standard pear drop shape they all tend to use.
I further stated that they could have at least cut it up to disguise the fact.
Overall opinion. No I won't be returning next year, there are better establishments to eat that offer a better standard of food in my humble opinion.
Six out of seven diners were happy with their meals. Sadly the vegetarian options were dated abd from the 1980’s
Great food amazing service, realistic prices, only down side is no parking, but this restaurant is worth the walk,a real gem.
Lovely restaurant well cooked food, amazing service, very reasonable prices,a little hidden gem I would highly recommend this place.
Have always enjoyed our visit to this restaurant usually on an evening, my only disappointment was the limited choice on the lunch time special menu for vegetarians - if you didn’t eat fish then your only choice was the soup or go hungry! I asked the waitress if there was an alternative to the fish pie and it was a definite no. Apparently the limited choice had been mentioned before by other vegetarian customers but there was nothing else she could offer and wouldn’t even go and ask! In the end I opted to have a bean casserole from the main menu and it was truly gorgeous!
We have visited here before and the food and service has always been good and their prices are reasonable.
We will visit again for sure
Met up with relatives for a family meal. Great for conversation and catching up.
Food was good, plenty of veg to go with the meat. Clear plates all round
We booked a table for 6 to celebrate my birthday.
The food was nice & hot and everybody got their meals at the same time which is a credit to the service at this restaurant.
The menu is not pretentious in any way but there is a good choice of dishes to satisfy most tastes, and the food is very well cooked and presented.
All our guests would agree with these comments, and all said they would visit this restaurant again.
Decent rustic, comfort food and good portions. The restaurant was in an old cottage with had a good ambience.
Fabulous food. The restaurant appears tucked away but well worth a visit!
Nice spot for a more informal dinner. All local produce and very tasty. Service was excellent and reasonably priced - the pies are particularly good!! We are local so come here every now and again when we just want a quiet dinner with good food. Would definitely recommend - it's not got much of an atmosphere but the food and service makes up for this tenfold. Lovely as always!
This is York's foodie gem! Always eat here when visiting the city.
Welcoming and efficient staff. Food very good. I had the lemon sole and my partner had the sirloin steak which was done to perfection..... just a wee bit too much for a medium appetite!!!
A fantastic little place right near the Minster. An extensive menu which caters to all tastes and great value considering you are in the heart of the city. Friendly, helpful staff. Can fully recommend
Traditional food cooked exceptionally well and good value for money.
Had a very enjoyable meal for our anniversary. Well worth visiting.
