Middletons Steakhouse & Grill - Chelmsford
We booked a table for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and had a really lovely meal. The staff were very welcoming and professional. We ordered from the set price menu and our daughter had two courses from the children's menu, the value is outstanding and the food was delicious! We've already told our family and friends how great it was, we will definitely be back.
Quite disappointing, had to wait way to long for food to arrive, some of which was cold. Staff did ask if things were okay but then didn’t react in any way to our comments.
Had seen a lot of good reviews for this restaurant so I’m assuming we just went on the wrong day.
Probably won’t chance it again.
We were really looking forward to going to Middletons to celebrate my boyfriends birthday with his parents.
Unfortunately we did not have a very good experience and therefore will not be returning.
Although staff were very friendly, service was extremely slow and it was almost impossible to get someone's attention if you needed anything.
It took almost an hour and a half for our mains to arrive from ordering (we did not have a starter) and it was only after enquiring how much longer it would be did we receive an apology and a round of drinks were offered.
When the food did finally arrive, a side order had been forgotten, one of the steaks was very rare when it had been ordered as medium, and another steak was very fatty and chewy.
As a restaurant classed as a steakhouse we expected the quality of meat and cooking to be on point but this wasn't the case.
The staff again apologised and took a meal off the bill.
The desserts were tasty but the ice-cream that was served with the sticky toffee pudding was 90% melted when it arrived.
Although the staff apologised and deducted items from the bill, it really didn't make up for the overall experience. The restaurant was only half full but yet staff blamed our experience on them catering for a couple of large groups in too (we did not see any groups larger than 6).
It was such a shame.
We had the sea food mixed grill and it was very average portions and it was also clear everything was defrosted.
Had dinner there with family to celebrate my birthday. About £30 per head for a starter, a main and 2 drinks. Everyone loved their choice of food and drink. Great value for money.
We love this place, the value for money is exceptional for the quality of food.
If I had one slight concern it would be the wait for food.
Very good service, attentive waiter/waitress,
Didn’t have to wait for our meals, although it was quite busy. Very good food and plenty to choose from
Ok the menu.
Value for money.
Would definitely go again.
went for the early diner discount menu , were very happy with the food and service
The staff were friendly and helpful, and dealt efficiently with a mix up over our starters. Unfortunately the food was a little disappointing. Hot, freshly cooked and timely, just a bit underwhelming.
Our second visit to the Middletons Steakhouse and very pleased!
Very nice food, good service and nice looking restaurant.
The toilets are downstairs and I don't think there is a lift so bear this in mind if you're not so mobile (apologies to the Middletons Steakhouse if there is a lift!)
But overall, an excellent restaurant.
Couldn’t fault, food was amazing and staff were so attentive and polite. Would recommend!
Chose a rose wine reasonably priced
Starter I had mussels- fine, sauce ok could have done with a little more depth, wife had pate which was very nice
Mains I had surf and turf with prawn option as they had run out of lobster with side salad. Prawns were cold so this was fixed with less than 5 minutes with new prawns
Steak was fine cooked as I wanted, replacement prawns very nice with a slight sweet edge to them.
Wife had lamb - I ate half of her lam , very nice and cooked very well to medium as requested.
Had cheese and biscuits and chose the house desert wine. Normal cheeses and choice of biscuits, desert wine very nice. Finished off with liqueur coffee.
For the cheaper end of steak houses it was good but you pay for what you get.
Service was a little slow, my husband and I were in there for 2 hours and only had a main & dessert.
It was a shame because we had been to their Colchester restaurant and the steak was great. We may have been really unlucky as allthe steaks we had were very chewy end cooked wrong as ordered.
I do hope they sort it out because everything else was great.
And you only go to a steak house for one thing to eat steak.
They gave us complementary deserts but that didn’t really do it.
As I said it was a shame and I do hope they sort the quality of their meat out
Wonderful place to eat the lobster was amazing
Introduction to our table was non existent, the waitress lead us to the table and then simply walked away. The table in the corner was almost in darkness, the candle on the table wasn't even lit. Two of our guests had ribs and prawns in their shells - no sign of a finger bowl. I asked for a medium rare steak but it so over cooked I left half of it. I mentioned it to the waitress and she simply said "I'll pass that on to the chef" but then walked to the opposite end of the restaurant. Terrible, will definitely not go back. Miller And Carter knocks spots off this place.
We arrived and ordered our food and it was brought to the table 30 minutes later. My partner was given the wrong meal and so they took his plate and mine back subsequently, and informed us the meal would be out in another half hour. We did consider leaving at this point.
At no point did someone offer to give us a complimentary drink/starter for this inconvenience, as you would expect with waiting another 30 minutes. I will not recommend this to a friend because, whilst the food was nice, the first time experience and waiters were not helpful at all!
Anywhere else would have given us something complimentary at least
After our first visit, despite the problems encountered on that visit, they were dealt with in a professional manner and would have recommended it but after this visit it was such a disappointment recommendation is no longer an option and doubt any of out party of 5 will be back again. The service was slow to non existent and had someone bothered to ask if our meals were okay we would have had a chance to complain. My fillet steak which was supposed to be medium rare was in fact medium to well done. Didn't enjoy it at all. The rib eye was also overdone. The sauce accompanying the steaks was tasteless. My dessert was supposed to be served with cream and the amount of cream was nothing more than a decoration on the plate, certainly not an accompaniment, this time i did get the chance to say something and was assured that this was the portion size of the cream. The portion of ice cream with the same dessert was at least 5 times the size. Never mind back to our usual restaurant..
Fantastic food seved by fantastic staff! Thank you!
Had a wonderful meal here on Mother’s Day with my husband, son and Father. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food... clean plates all round and the service was great
Best Sunday Roast in Chelmsford town! Wonderful service from staff who made the meal really personal and were very welcoming! Cannot wait to go back!
We visited here in Mother’s Day for a late lunch. Luckily we had booked in advance as the restaurant was very busy. We were shown straight to our table and drinks arrived promptly. We both ordered the Sunday roast but my daughter has the vegetarian option. She was very pleased there was a nut roast available. The meals were huge with loads of different vegetables. The only slight disappointment was the creme brûlée’s which we both ordered. They did not taste how I would expect. We probably should have complained but didn’t . But a very enjoyable meal
The best Sunday roast in Chelmsford ! recommend the mixed meats a selection of everything ...
We had a really lovely lunch on Mothers day. The food was great and service was fast and friendly. Good value for money also. Will definitely go back.
There were 6 of us on our table, all ordered different dishes, and they all came out at the same time.
Our waitress was extremely polite and friendly, ensuring we were all happy with each course. The steaks were all cooked exactly as specified and were good quality. A very enjoyable experience in a well organised restaurant.
Fabulous will definitely be going back. Food was excellent and the staff were efficient and friendly. Will be recommending to all.
Every member of staff was warm and welcoming, the food was outstanding, service was faultless and it was the best meal / evening out we’ve had in a long time. We’re already looking for the next celebration/excuse to book again!
The set menu has a good range and at an amazing price. My grandparents loved the food, loved the setting, were pleased with the service, and it didn't break our bank either. Portions for fixed menu are ideal for a lunch - they leave you comfortable but not uncomfortably stuffed. Have recommended Middleton's to several friends and family members already and looking forward to our return. Thanks
Service & restaurant was very good , clean nice food , one steak was disappointed in , it was very dry . But on mention it to waiter a manager said how sorry they were & deducted it from the bill. Can’t ask more than that.
The food was amazing. We first got sat next to a group of 10 men who were very loud, we requested to move and we was moved instantly. The food took a while to come out but we were constantly apologised to and updated which we understood considering it was a Friday night!!!!
We ordered from the set menu. Perfect for a catch-up after work. Service was fab. Staff were lovely. Food was delicious!
2nd visit and again food was lovely. Would recommend the roast lamb. Friendly and attentive staff. Will return again for another visit soon.
Our table was booked for 9pm on a Saturday, expected it to be busy but this looked more like the kitchen was overrun with orders, the food took an hour to come out, some people walked out without paying for their drinks. We have been before and it was fine so hopefully it was just a 1 off, the food and drinks were good but nees to maybe organise the kitchen a little better.
I have been to Middleton's three times and this third time the food was just as good. 5 star. However the service was a let down this time. There seemed a lot of confusion over dishes and tables and perhaps as though many staff were brand new which lead to some wrong dishes and long wait.
Standards should be high as the food is good and the mid to high price range is justified. However the service must remain higher to keep the place busy. Hope next time will be better
I might request next time a table further into the restaurant as it was a bit draughty where people kept walking backwards and forwards.
Food was scrumptious and kids enjoyed the build your own. Service was quick and efficient... Definitely will recommended it.
Excellent place , food and service amazing, we will return .
We visited for Sunday lunch and it was superb. The three adults had Sunday roast, there was a choice of beef, lamb and pork . Two of us chose lamb and beef, the other had all three. The vegetables were served separately (apart from potatoes) they were all fresh, carrots, parsnips, cauliflower cheese and broccoli and were perfectly cooked, such value for £10.95 and plenty of it. My grandson had the burger which he said was great and my granddaughter had the children’s set menu which was 2 courses plus a drink for £4.95, excellent value. We didn’t wait very long for our meals and the service was very good. I will be recommending Middletons as we were very impressed.
Our server was excellent. Very attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good and everything we ordered arrived promptly.
Loved the venue. One of the people in our group had worked in the building when it was a bank so it was great for her to see the transformation.
Really enjoyed ourselves and all said we would come back.
