Middletons Steakhouse & Grill - Chelmsford
We had Saturday lunch, very good. We came on Sunday for a roast dinner and we were very disappointed. The staff were very good. Food disappointing in quality and quantity.
Great first visit for us to Middletons. It was a busy Friday night, but we weren’t left waiting at all. Staff were brilliant and the food is good too! Not rediculously over priced like some establishments in Chelmsford. Will definitely be returning.
Service was excellent as was the steak I ordered. Cooked to perfection! Good service. Overall great experience.
Had to chase up our meals (6 people). Got a few of our orders wrong. Had to ask 3 times for a green salad that had been ordered but not arrived. Steaks were ‘ok’. We’ve had better elsewhere. They ran out of the red wine we was drinking (we only had one bottle - then reordered & none left). But they did agree to sell the next most expensive one at the same price! Gave desert menus & only advised after choosing that one option wasn’t available. Creme brûlée wasn’t crispy on top...plus overall texture wasn’t great. Overall wasn’t that impressed & will not be returning in a hurry...
Standard of the steak was not as I would expect. The actual cut of meat was not that great.
The rest of the meal was excellent though,as were the staff.
Lovely food restaurant was on the cold side which made the evening a little disappointing
Really enjoyed our first meal here. I had the 22 ounce steak cooked medium rare and it cut like butter. Service was a little slow, but they have only just opened and things take time to settle down, that said they delivered great service. We will visit again
My second visit in less than a week.
Fairly Impressed the first time, less so the second.
My wife’s half lobster was barely warm and the mixed bean salad appeared to be straight from a tin.
Need to give it time before I return.
Good value for money. Service good although a little slow between starter and main course. Food very good. Would definitely recommend.
Beautifully cooked food, very attentive staff. A little pricey but great for a special occasion
The food was delicious. The service was friendly, prompt and good overall.
Excellent service great food. A fantastic first time dining there and it won’t be our last!
Amazing food. Great service and such good value. Will definitely be returning very soon.
Last minute booking for a table of four on a busy Friday night in Chelmsford, 7th December. We knew nothing about the restaurant but we were not disappointed.
Excellent front of house service and a quick drink at the bar before we were shown to a table in the well laid out restaurant, they provide a comprehensive menu that can cater for all tastes. The starters and mains were good value but of course the drink prices are always the element that pushes the cost up.
A couple of us opted for the Middleton Grill which on the whole was very good but they must make sure all the components of the dish are 100%, my 6oz sirloin was not the best I have had but despite this the dinner for all of us more than met our expectations. I would not hesitate to return to Middletons!
Nice restaurant but doesn't have the extra special factor, with the competition in the area they may find it tough. Steak ok, service average not sharp, didn't blow my mind.
We really enjoyed our experience at Middletons. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was fantastic especially for such a large venue. It was so tastefully designed and decorated. The staff were so friendly and efficient.
Starters was lovely, steak was cooked perfectly and dessert finished it off nicely!
So slow ! Told the waitress upon arrival that we only had an hour for lunch . Still waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive . Definitely couldn’t come back for lunch .
A shame because the food was lovely.
Excellent meal. Only observation was the food got cold quick because plates not hot enough.
We will definitely be back soon.
Nice meal we had 3 courses with sides , bottle of wine and a couple of beers! With 50 % off the bill - it was still £77.80 but we did both have 12oz fillets for main! Quite a few items sold out and off the menu! Had to pour the wine ourselves all evening apart from once which is not ideal
We went during the soft launch and had a very pleasant experience. All steaks were cooked well, Vicky our waitress was friendly. Starters and mains were all lovely. We had desserts but would probably give that a miss next time as were ok but nothing special. The brownie dessert was not great little bits of brownie and cheap looking vanilla ice cream. Lemon posset was very nice . Was a bit draughty where we sat and if there had been more than 5 of us would of been cramped.
Would go back again though
I was totally amazed at how good the food and service were, it is so nice to go into a restaurant in the town centre and it actually be amazing food and like you are the only customer in the restaurant. This is my new fave restaurant.
Very good for new set up. Only had set lunch menu which was probably not typical of main menu. Will
Try steak etc another time
The three of us enjoyed a lovely meal on 4th December. The waitress Katrina was very attentive and we had good service. We did have to wait over 40 minutes for our meal but it was their first review week so it is going to take time for them to get timings correct. We would definitely go back Had a lovely atmosphere.
Been twice, steak warm only on both occasions, water warm, lack of ambience one night..no buzz, front of house need to be more communicative, no nice goodbye or upbeat welcome, willl close within 18 months unless raises its game
Considering they have just opened, this was by far one of the best meals we have eaten in a restaurant this year! The service was great considering they were new and all getting to used to how each other work (just needed to be a little quicker with getting drinks to the table but this could of been an isolated case with us, not a massive issue)! I feel you have massively upped the game of food in Chelmsford town now where others had become too comfortable that are similar to yourselves!
Took the opportunity to attend whilst staff were still in training. The steaks are fantastic, venue lovely. Staff are obviously still learning the ropes but, if you like good food, this will be a cracking place in Chelmsford to try
Lovely new steakhouse at top of Chelmsford High Street. Waiter service was excellent, food was exceptionally good. Really tastefully decorated and had a warm feel to it. Would recommend.
Absolutely amazing food and service already booked again. Big variety of dishes and drinks.
Did not rate this place one bit. We got handed the menus and nothing really jumping out except one thing which we was then told they didn’t have any of. We went straight on to ordering our mains which we had to wait 50 minutes for, got told it was because of the chicken I’m a chef myself and know it does not take that long to cook a breast of chicken, others around us in this time had come in ordered starters and then nearly finshied their main course before we had even received ours. Once we did get out main course, steak had a bit of gristle on and one of the ribs had paper on it. I understand staff were training in this period of time however they will need to do better in the future.
Superb! Everything was brilliant. The food, the service, the wine and the ambience were all 10 out of 10.
We will definitely be returning.
Excellent to the normal Middleton standards
Great attention from staff during our meal ensuring that we had every thing we needed
Lovely food fab service waiter was friendly but didn't interrupt when eating very good with children drinks were a bit pricey but other than that an all round good night
What Chelmsford has been missing. Steak and burgers were great!
Went to the pre-opening at Saturday. Everything was great and made my family really welcome. Would recommend. Beautiful place, friendly staff, great food and service.
A really nice meal, staff were friendly and service was great.
Food could be improved, the purpose of the restaurant was difficult to see what category it fit into. Is it try to be a steakhouse? E.g. Chop Bloc, or a grille?
The quality and cooking of the steak could be improved. More options for sides required e.g. ribs, Mac and cheese etc.
The background music is something to be desired(90's pop music).
All in all, not somewhere I would go out of my way to visit, but maybe for lunch or a quick bite I may nip in.
Nice decor, pleasant ambiance and fantastic steak!
The service was attentive without being intrusive, despite the fact that we attended on a ‘training night’. The menu was extensive and everything we tried was delicious - the prices were a little high when compared to other local restaurants but for a guaranteed excellent dinner, it’s worth it.
We visited during the preview period and really enjoyed the food. We both ate from the set menu which was excellent value. The regular menu had a good variety of reasonably priced food and of course some more expensive dishes. Wine list seemed fine, we had the Chenin Blanc which was lovely. One thing that was disappointing was the absence of any draft beers. Bottled beers were really expensive making beer not much of an option, definitely need a decent draft beer. Would also benefit from having some drink deals, normally a great idea to get people in early. We visited at 5pm and it would have been nice to have a happy hour on cocktails which is pretty regular for up market venues.
Excellent Sunday roast. Suggest you offer extra gravy when delivering food.
