Middletons Steakhouse & Grill - Chelmsford
Went to try it out and was pleasantly surprised. Food was very nice, big menu choice and service was very good. Would go back.
Our time at the restaurant was brilliant. Drinks were served at the bar beforehand, the menu was well balanced with too many good dishes that encourage you to come back. Service was attentive and polite, the actual food was very well cooked and portions were spot on.
Definitely a restaurant to look forward to returning, not only for the experience but for the ambience, but the menu choices, fabulous food and service.
Food and service very good however we were seated next to a large party who were very noisy so spoilt the meal a little
Upon arrival it was very busy, stood at the bar for 5 mins without being acknowledged then sat at a small table in the back of the restaurant, twice a waiter brought food to our table despite us not even having a drinks order taken let alone a food order. Very unorganised and staff lacking massively in training
The steak was really nice but the chip portions were tight; my wife had a total of nine chips.
I think the starters were very over priced.
However, the service was excellent and the ambiance great.
Overall, great steak but let down by sides
So me and my girlfriend arrived to dinner at 6:35 for our anniversary and we were placed in the corner of the restaurant which was lovely, it was a lovely quiet corner with great lighting and the perfect volume to be able to hear to music in the background of our conversation. We had ordered a bottle of wine and 2 cocktails for drinks, when the wine was brought over the wine wasn’t presented to me so I could have a sip, which to me was poor service considering other tables had this form of service. We had then ordered our starters and mains and to be honest the starters came very quickly... however our mains took nearly 2 hours to be served to us and even the waitress asked us if our mains had already been served and she was shocked we had mentioned that we hadn’t received them, if she hadn’t of asked we could of been sitting there for another 2hours for all I know. When we received our meals they weren’t adequate at all, I had ordered sirloin steak with sweet potato fries. The steak was asked to cooked medium rare and I received it very rare, you could easily tell it had just been flashed on the grill for a few seconds. The steak was only slightly cooked on the outside so I didn’t think much of it but once I had cut into it the steak was completely raw. There was no sign of the steak being cooked or heated through at all, they were probably better off cooking it with a hair dryer. I didn’t want to mention it to a member of staff as I’m only 18 and I knew I would of been looked down upon if I had mentioned there was a problem with the steak and would of been seen as ignorant. We could tell that members of staff were already giving us looks and made us feel uncomfortable. The steak had made me sick in the evening and again the following morning. If someone was to ask about my experience at Middletons I would say it was very poor
Garlic mushroom starters were lovely. Ordered 10oz steak with wedges. Steak was lukewarm at best and wedges so hot they have left a blister on the roof of my mouth.
Desert was 3 scoops of ice cream. Had ice crystals in them, not sure if they had thawed a bit and re frozen.
Cocktails are average.
Do not order surf and turf and pay extra for the lobster option, you get 3 mouthfuls of lobster at best, the thermifor sauce was forgotten and lobster not hot when brought out to my boyfriend. His steak was also lukewarm.
Given this place is billed as a steakhouse I feel they need to up their game with the temperature of the steaks.
Also why ask, when booking a table, if it's for a special occasion (our 14th anniversary, I specifically mentioned it) if you aren't going to do anything special? A small free drink would have been nice maybe?
Great choices on menu, the waitress was very helpful and professional but the manager was abrupt. Food was good perfect and good prices. Would recommend
Steak was well cooked and tasted lovely. My jacket potato looked anemic and was pretty poor. The green vegetables were just mangetout. The field mushroom and tomato were so small and not what you’d expect to accompany a £25 steak. The starters were nice and the wine was lovely. Wouldn’t visit again, lots of work to be done to bring the whole meal standard up. We paid £200 for a 2 course meal including wine for 4 people.
Fillet steak was amazing highly recommend staff very attentive also
Amazing, incredible, everything I could ever ask for
I liked the whole meal apart from how long we had to wait for food and how long it took the staff to ask for drinks
The starters were lovely, the wine was great the steak was chewy and extremely fatty. Of the 8oz 6 was edible. The Middleton burger was ok except the patty was really dry and tasteless. Food wasn’t checked it was ok by the waiter just handed to us and left. Waiter didn’t ask how our meal was at the end either.
Manager was extremely happy polite and worked the restaurant well.
Very very nice evening. Great food and service. Will definitely be returning.
Happy friendly atmosphere, staff helpful and always happy to help. Food is fantastic. I highly recommend this restaurant and is my new favourite place to be.
Food was quite slow, and restaurant very noisy. I guess that is the luck of the draw.
This was our first visit and certainly won’t be the last. Atmosphere was great, a buzz around the place but not too loud.
The mussels as a starter were superb and the steaks were excellent. We particularly liked the various size of steaks to fit all appetites and budgets. We had the Lemon Possett and Cheese board followed by liquor coffees.
The wine was nice too!!
For the quality of food and the high level of services we thought the bill was very reasonable.
Can’t wait to return!
Lovely service and food and great value for money. Looking forward to returning.
Pork served bloody, slow service, Sunday roast Yorkshire’s crusty and burned, gravy awful, and meats over cooked. Avoid!
After waiting nearly an hour and 15 minutes we eventually got our order taken. 4 steaks, 2 of which were sent back as we ordered medium and they came out blue and hardly even rare. In fairness to the management they did come over and apologise, and gave us new sides free of charge. The other 2 steaks were rare rather than medium but were edible. Won’t be going back to Middleton’s.
Unfortunately one of the main was left off our table of 6, which was then brought out cold and returned. Onion rings were forgotten ( we got them eventually) and we never got there peppercorn sauce for the steak. Staff were very apologetic but it wasn't ideal.
We had the main taken off of our bill but they forgot to take off the peppercorn sauce. It was a shame because it nice inside and the atmosphere was good.
Party of 5
My partner had a sirloin steak
It mostly had fat on it and was very saltey
Apart from that all other food was lovely
Great place with fabulous menu. When reserving a table I entered that we were celebrating my husband's new job. Staff never acknowledged this so why ask when booking online why u r coming along? I thought he may have got a small complimentary beer perhaps??
We arrived early and had planned drinks at the bar beforehand but were directed to our table instead. It took 20 minutes for our pre dinner drinks to arrive which was disappointing. Our starters were good and the meat for the main dish was nicely cooked, but the sides, Coleslaw and Waldorf Salad were very disappointing. They were smothered in mayonnaise which totally masked the other ingredients. We complained to our waiter who allegedly informed the chef but nothing else was done (replacement side, taken off bill?). My Diane sauce came in a very small dish. Looking at my plate it was all far too conveniently served and compartmentalised. A jug with more sauce poured onto the plate would be more appealing. Interestingly, a lot of thought has gone into the dining area, making it a pleasant atmosphere, but there was still Jamie Oliver branding in the toilets - why cut costs here? Quite a mixed evening.
Very busy when we visited and therefore service was a little slow mainly around drinks
I had to send my steak back a total of 3 times, twice coming back rare and medium rare even though I asked for it to be medium and the third time it came back very over done. Also by this point my partner had finished his food and mine had still not be returned. Also my waitress was very rude because I sent back my food as it was not cooked how I asked it to be cooked.
Really lovely experience. & would definitely recommend. Only one point I would make is that sometimes I’ve noticed some of the smaller tables are pushed really close together. I imagine this is to accommodate more during busy periods. Just bare this is mind as i personally would have felt a little uncomfortable with that.
The restaurant has so much potential but just didn’t deliver. A steak restaurant serving terrible quality steaks and not cooking them as they were asked to be cooked.
Service was ok but not great, waiters were too busy and starters took 1 hour from ordering to be served.
Food was not hot and tasted as though it has sat on the hot plate for a while.
I wouldn’t recommend nor return to this restaurant.
I really enjoyed it went with friends at 6:30 mid week didn’t wait long at all for food the food taste amazing we have starter main and dessert no complaints there staff friendly very reasonable price would go again definitely
good food well presented friendly atmosphere excellent service will be back
After an hour and quarter wait for the main meal , it was a Sunday and they had run out of roast dinners at 3.30pm ! after chasing the waiter for drinks to be replenished and no apology for the wait , we were served the worst steak we have ever had , we asked for medium rare and this was raw and gristly, with a side of Luke warm sweet potato fries. We complained and had to wait for the manager as the waiter did not seem to acknowledge the issue ,the manger apologised and offered a free desert or coffee but not a refund on the main in question or an explanation as to why the service was so bad . It’s such a shame as this was a return visit as we have eaten there before and had a nice meal.
Maybe extra staff need training or the managers need to take more time for customer care
Very friendly staff and made to feel welcome. Both ordered the lamb and tasted great. So full up couldn't manage a dessert. Will return for a second visit soon.
Surprisingly fit in all three course - but then again the food was amazing so had to! Second time at Middletons Chelmsford, and will most definitely be a regular. Amazing food and fantastic service. Thank you
Nice venue, good friendly service and great food. Definatly be going back.
Great quality food and friendly staff. The atmosphere was very good.
Service could have been better. Was waiting a while to order
Service was too slow. Chicken over cooked, steak under cooked. Not value for money. Waiters very pleasant .
Food is always good, chips could have had a bit longer but that was minor. The food does take a while to come out every time we have been, but come, chat, don't be in a rush and you'll have a great evening! Also, for the price, we always feel we are getting great value for food and drink.
We loved Middletons ! First time here and it was my eldest birthday.
Waiting staff were brilliant! A menu which suited everyone in our group.
Our group had a range from Pate, Calamari, ribs to start and then mains were Lobster, Prawns and Steaks, even the kids menu had steak and chips on it - my 6 year old loved it ! Food was all amazing !!!
I forgot the birthday cake, but the waiter still brought out a happy birthday desert and sang to my 23 year old !! (I didn’t even ask him too) x
We couldn’t fault anything and will be back next week !!
very disappointed, food very band starters and steaks cooked with gammon so very salty. fish was burnt and the ribs where tough and burnt
