Middletons Steakhouse & Grill - Norwich
It was just too loud for us. We couldn't hear each other
I had previously been in to Middletons to confirm booking and agreed on a corner table for 6 for my grandsons 18th. The table was occupied when we arrived and they wanted to send us upstairs .but i have two bad knees and my son had a broken foot,so not feasible. Give them their due we were sent to the bar ,but we just wanted to sit down and order. We were quickly given 6 comfy chairs n new table sadly near the toilets with men lined up near by . The staff were good and our waiter excellent BUT i left half my fillet steak as it was too chewy(whereas my husband had a good one) . i didn't want a new one ,as i was fed up chewing ,so the full cost was knocked off the bill . One of us had the mixed fish platter n didn't eat all as too greasy,so half item knocked off. The noise level is horrendous. As the problems arose they were swiftly dealt with , so good marks there, but the problems shouldnt have arisen in the first place, Far too many people n tables squashed in. Its definitely a young person's place as they will like the loud buzz and probably know no better when it comes to food as the portions are generous and some of it is ok (spicey prawns good ). Our experience isnt a one off ,as others have been given vouchers as compensation ,but that doesnt make up for a ruined evenIng .
Booked for a family birthday lunch for 6 of us. Our first visit to Middletons, I had been wanting to try it for some time. Very conveniently located in the city centre, right in the heart of all the shops, pubs, other places to eat and drink and very close to the theatre and cinema, it’s an ideal location for everything. It’s a very nice restaurant, the decor and the way it is set out is lovely, but it still retains a relaxed comfortable feel. The staff were lovely, the service was friendly, quick and efficient and we were very well looked after. They brought bottles of water to the table without us having to ask and poured us a glass each. The water was replaced as and when required, again without us asking. Excellent value with the set menu that they serve during the day, which is what we all had. We all went for the 3 courses at £9.95 each, it really did fill us all up and for a long time afterwards ! Drinks were a bit on the pricey side, but that’s true of nearly all restaurants. It was a very enjoyable lunch out and it made a nice change to go somewhere new. I would definitely return and try different dishes. We followed it up with a trip to the cinema straight after leaving, which is situated very close by. All in all we had a lovely, thoroughly enjoyable day out celebrating my birthday. A huge thank you to all the staff involved in wishing me a happy birthday, they brought out my dessert on a wooden serving board and had written “ Happy Birthday” in chocolate sauce with various edible decorations all around along with a lit candle for me to blow out. What a lovely, thoughtful touch, very much appreciated, thanks again.
Staff were well mannered, orangised and efficient. Food was good quality, good portion size, and brought out in good time. Going again soon
Had a really good meal. My veggie option was well cooked and clearly not just something from the freezer. Others had steaks which were cooked as they requested. My husband would have liked his slightly hotter but was not a problem. Desserts also went down well. Good recomendations from the waiter . Beers were a bit on the expensive side but I suppose to be expected in a city centre restaurant. Would definitely return.
We always come here for our birthdays and we are never disappointed!
With more and more places on where to eat in Norwich, we’re getting a bit spoilt for choice. However, Middletons never fail in my eyes. Recently visited for a quiet birthday meal with my children and the food as always was superb.
Great service and great food, great place for brthday celebration
Absolutely spot on again, many thanks we will return, 4 very happy people
I booked Middletons for lunch on Sunday for a friends birthday. We were a bit early for our table but we’re seated straight away. It was quite some time before our drinks order was taken, by which time we had decided what we wanted to eat. Two of our party ordered beef wellington and we were told there would be a 30 minute wait. Our food arrived after around 40 minutes, but it was well presented and was very tasty. Overall we were very happy with the service and will probably return another time.
Unfortunately food was tepid at best - slightly worrying. Service started well our mains came quick but we seemed to wait a long time to get the cheeseboard we ordered 🤔. Felt like the staff had switched off ......
Pleasant surroundings and a good atmosphere. Acknowledged when we went in and seated quickly. All staff were friendly and attentive. We didn’t have to wait long for our starters ,The calamari was excellent and generous portions ,my fellow diners agreed that their starters were too. We waited just about the right amount of time between courses .All of our mains were cooked perfectly including the rare lamb steak ,not always easy to get that right ,and our vegetarian was pleased that there are some slightly different choices from usual. The mushroom and vegetable pie was very tasty. It was a Saturday night so very busy and we did have to wait a little too long for our coffees, though even without us saying anything they were deducted from the bill. We will definitely go again, though probably try to go at a quieter time. We look forward to trying some other dishes and will definitely recommend to friends and family.
First visit and will definitely return!
Food was outstanding, service was great and restaurant itself was lovely
great service, food quickly came to table, seat was right in front of the grill but bright lights and heat made it a little uncomfortable but overall enjoyed the meal and food was very tasty with the right proportions
Arrived early, was no problem. Seated promptly. Service was very efficient. Delicious food and wine. Very pleased overall
Very nice food, had the 8oz fillet steak and it was so soft and the onion rings were super crispy (perfect in my opinion). The reason it's not 5 star is because I didn't like the sound of the sauces they had as I have experienced amazing sauces else where, which then slightly retracted from the flavour overall. But other than that absolutely marvellous experience.
We are very frequent visitors to Middlestons for their lunchtime special and always book online through Open Table. We attended as booked at 3.00 pm and were seated promptly. We were surprised to see the set menu did not resemble that which we had looked at on Friday evening online. Web site needs updating. At around 4.00pm I received an email from Open Table accusing us of a "no show" at the restaurant (as reported by Middletons). I felt quite peeved as we would always ring and cancel if we were not going to turn up. After all the other things that happened on this visit (see full details below) we are all more than a little disappointed. The 2 men in our party chose ribs for a starter and were horrified to find they basically had 2 ribs bones covered in sauce and had to play a game of "hunt the meat" in all the year's we have been coming this has never happened. We did get an apology from the waitress and she fed this back to the kitchen. Next we had 2 minute steaks ( cooked to perfection as always) and 2 lemon butterfly chicken and salad. The chicken came with no lemon which we had to ask for and the salad was basically 2 long slices of cucumber and spinach leaves. On all other visits we have had a mix of salad leaves, cucumber, mix colour beetroot, tomatoes and mixed raw peppers. We were again disappointed and fed this back to the waitress. Let's not even talk about the desserts. They were all below par and there was a specific request not to have cream on one of them and it came with cream. The pavlovas were very disappointing. They were meringue nests with a small dollop of cream and a couple of mixed berries with a tiny amount of berry sauce. I know that £10 for a 3 course meal is a magnificent price but overall this time it was not worth the £10. To be fair we were given a discount on the food but we did feel quite let down on this visit. 4friendsdine May look elsewhere in future. Sorry Middletons but we are just speaking how we found things.
Food took too long. Potatoes were cold and returned but finished main before jacket potatoe returned and steak over seasoned
Food was excellent and the lunchtime set menu is really good value. 2 let downs were very slow service and ordered extras and they never came
Could not fault the food or service second to none on presentation and quantity if any fault i found the noise level very loud thats my only fault with my visit to middletons but it would not put me off visiting again thanks middletons 👍👍👍
Our waiter was lovely, all the staff were friendly, our food arrived quickly and the meal was really good and brilliant value 3 course for £10). It was our anniversary and when our desserts were bought out 'Happy Anniversary' had been written on the boards with chocolate sauce and sprinkles. This was simple but made our night feel even more special.
Been to Middletons quite a few times and never been disappointed. Excellent value lunch and my partner and I had garlic mushrooms for starter, small but it's all you need and cheese burger for mains which is a brilliant burger, my partner had a steak baguette and 2 lagers, large glass of red to top it off for me. £29 for everything. Will definitely be back.
Unfortunately whilst the management and staff were very attentive to us our food was really poor.
I ordered the Sunday Roast which was cold as was my mums vegetarian burger.
Everything was re-done but was not up to their usual high standard for some reason.
It was my first visit. And the food was well presented. Staff were very friendly. A neig(bourhood gem. Highly recommended.
Good food cooked well. Great service from staff. However background noise made it very difficult to converse.
Excellent steaks and a very lively atmosphere. Not the cheapest but a nice treat.
The food was lovely.
The reason for the three star rating- we booked three weeks but were offered a table by the door or next to the main door or next to the toilets.
Surely these tables should be filled last by people who haven’t booked.
I think you need to revisit how tables are allowcated.
A real find in Norwich. Great service, food was excellent quality and reasonable priced. Will definitely return
Did the 3 course set menu and food was perfect.. Not a lot of space to move but generally nice atmosphere and good value for money..
Have been here on numerous occasions, if fact every time we shop in Norwich we book a table. It's very good service and food.
Great food as always. Friendly efficient staff. Extremely good value. Nice little touch ....... “Happy Birthday” board for my husband.
Fast friendly service. Good food. The set menu is really great value for the money.
Excellent on a Friday evening. Lovely buzz about it without being overbearing. Food as always was delicious and service was pretty quick and efficient
Amazing food great ambience service very good, made our date night even more special.
The service we had was excellent, the waiter was outstanding. It really made for a special occasion.
The meal was truly delicious, cooked to perfection.
We will be returning soon.
Love Middletons. Steak is always perfect. Service is excellent. 3 courses for £10 is an absolute bargain. Look forward to going again.
Excellent food at an excellent price. Good choices
This was my fourth visit and it was the worst. We ordered four stakes with chips and onion rings, all were badly cooked and fried. Quality of meat was awful and was like fried tier. All in all, quality of food is very poor and very long service time. Highly Not Recommended.
Lovely food and service, also very on the ball when my 6 year old decided to eat a handful of chillis 🌶 with his ribs - thanks for the milk!!
Amazing place! Always a visitor but First roast and not disappointed ! Wow
