STUNNING, REMARKABLE, and 幸せね。

Sometimes you will ask yourself, there are no difference in Tempura as it’s only fried food. Maybe you could have fresh food but after you put into the hot oil boiler it is just the same.

But I am wrong, totally wrong.

This shop has totally changed my mind about what is REAL Tempura.

Mr Tetsuya Saotome, the chef has been making Tempura since 1962, has totally drawn the line for the world that what should be like for a good Tempura serve. From the seasonal food he chooses, and how he make the tempura totally attracted my eyes from the counter table seat. It’s a omakase serve of which they choose the best food for you, and the highlight will definitely be how he makes the tempura and keep the food fresh and looks colorful and delicious. I enjoy his cooking art from the beginning till the end.

It’s a truly fine dining experience, and I’m really glad to have a chance to meet Mr Saotome and be served for the real tempura.

This is my second time visiting, this time with some one I love. The owner/ chef, Mr Tetsuya Saotome is not only a excellent and talent chef, but also an artist and a kind and wise man. During the whole experience, I was immersed in the beauty of nature through all sensories - taste, sound, seeing, smell, touch and hearing. They all merged and weaved together in a dynamic and immersive way. The place is so artistically designed, from the willow tree on the wall, the hat shaped chimney, to the hand drawn menu, to the plates, bowls and the tempura themselves. The smell of the frying and the sound when you bite the tempura made me feel like I was in a dream or some kind of heaven. The food is absolutely delicious, as renowned for “God of Tempura”. At the end of the dinner, when I saw Mr Tetsuya drawning a prawn using ink on my menu, thinking of his writing on the menu “ tempura is like wind blowing through willow tree.” I was so moved and almost cry because of the beauty i felt. I was so blessed and so loved to have this wonderful exploration of gastronomy and art. Deep respect and admire to him, a one and only talent, who share his love of nature and art in such gentle and delicious way. Not to mention his professionalism, his wisdom and dedication through his life. Thank you so much, Mr Tetsuya.

Indeed probably the best tempura you can enjoy in the world, been to lots of fine dining restaurant, but the tempura here got the temperature, texture and everything perfectly. Some people may find it a bit too serious cuz everyone is quite quiet and very focus, however, this is what makes the food great. Definitely will visit again soon.

「天ぷらの神様」と呼ばれる早乙女氏の天ぷらを味わうべく伺いましたが、期待以上の経験をさせて頂きました。最初の海老でもう来て良かったと思える満足感を得ましたし、今まで食べた事のない松茸を一本丸ごと頂き、その風味、香りにため息が出てしまうほど。
接客について批判的な口コミが多々見受けられたので若干不安があったのですが、気持ち良く食事が出来る接客で言葉づかい、距離感、全く問題なしです。
また季節を変えて伺いたいです。

美味しいのですが、値段対価値で言うと普通かと思います。
カウンターだと違ったのかもしれませんが、特段感動というものは感じませんでした。

まず客単2万円もするところなのに2時間制はちょっとないと思います。
衣がサクサクでいいと思いますが、海鮮の美味しさが全く感じられません。。。エビとイカは特にひどかったです。ちょっと油っぽいと感じる品もありました。店員さんのショッキングピンクのマニキュア今でも悪夢に出てきます。17時の予約で3分前に到着したら、3階の待合室に案内され、座ってもないのに、また2階に呼ばれるのは店員さんの教育はどうなっているのか疑問に思います。
期待しすぎたこっち側の過ちです。深く反省しております。

We had the 1:00pm lunch service at the counter- the best way to go. All of the seats are great, but if you want to watch the chef in action, be the first to enter the dining space so you can get one of the first 4-5 seats, which are closest to his work area.

At no point did we feel rushed. The service was very good. Some of the staff spoke English and were able to guide us and make recommendations on how to best enjoy some of the dishes. Lunch was very expensive, but it was worth it for the overall experience. The uni wrapped in shiso was very unique and delicious, all of the seafood and vegetables were very fresh.

All dishes are served in custom made pottery and serve ware by local artisans. The restaurant was designed and contains works by various local artists as well. At the end of you meal, the chef came by and took a copy of the menu and drew a small drawing of a prawn and signed the menu, so you can have it as a keepsake.

There are some rules- you can only take photos of the food and no photos are allowed of the chef or food prep and no video. I noticed that the staff were constantly monitoring this and often asking people to only take photos of the food itself, after it was placed on your plate.

3人で伺いましたがこれと言った感動は特にありませんでした。前回の方が美味しく感じました。
基本揚げ時間が長いとも感じました。
コストパフォーマンスで考えると厳しいと思いました。

天ぷらは評判通り大変美味しくいただけました。油も非常に軽くたくさん食べても胃にもたれない上質感がありました。菜食主義のインド人をお連れしましたが細やかな気配りでご説明も丁寧でしたし大満足でした。ただ、最後の天丼と赤出汁がかなり塩辛く、腎臓の悪い私はもちろん、味噌汁の大好きなインド人もしょっぱすぎてびっくりしていました。 あのお味は店主さまのポリシーだったのでしょうか? あれだけが最後のところで残念でした。
もしお願いできるなら次回は天丼と赤出汁をかなり薄味をリクエストさせていただきたいと思いました。
でも全体的に大変美味しい天ぷらでしたし、ベジタリアンへの面倒なご対応も完璧でしたのですぐ他の友人の予約も入れましたしまた伺いたいと思います。

This is my second time at Mikawa Zezankyo and it is truly a delight to indulge in the experience, ambience and of course, the food. This may be the best tempura restaurant in the world. Certainly not a place you stop by on a daily basis but someplace you go for very special occasions.

煙草の事ですが、それは人それぞれ好みの問題なので喫煙の方は待合室では無く外で吸うように是非ともお願いします。店ノ方で案内して下さい。特に中国ノ方々が周りのお客は関係無く吸ってました。

中国の友人はここのことを偉く気に入ってて日本に来る度に訪れている。今回も例外なく訪問した。3歳の小さい子がいるから二階の個室へ案内された。しかし二階の中国人の女性店員は中国語を使って案内することを拒否。中国語を喋りたくない何か事情あるだろうけど、日本語分からない中国人客にひたすらに日本語で喋りかけてどうするんの?結局友人の奥さんが日本語分からない、中国語喋れの一言で大人しくなった。どういう事情か知らんけど自分の都合で客を不愉快な気分にさせるさてはダメだろう

毎年、食事させていただいてます。
料理は良いのですが、年々サービスの質が落ちている気がします。

今年は特にひどかった。

湯呑みに布巾の毛がついていたり、雑巾くさい臭いがしたり。

表でサービスをしている方は正装ですが、厨房ではピアスの若いお兄さんが。。
人は見た目ではないとは思いつつ、質が下がったと思ってしまいました。

値段相応のサービスを期待していましたが全く合っておらず、残念です。

7年前から、「人生で一度は、行ってみたい!」と思っていたお店でした。お店の雰囲気、職人の所作、スタッフの気配り、お食事全てに満足で感激致しました。揚げたてを頂けるカウンターでのお食事をお勧めします。塩で頂く事で食材の味が引き立ち
数日後でも余韻に浸れる程です。またすぐにでも食べたくなる、本当に美味しい絶品天婦羅です。外国のお客様も多く、日本食を楽しんでいらっしゃるのが嬉しい時間でした。
