Milan the restaurant
Considering it had closed down weeks before you confirmed the booking it was interesting that you did not bother to warn us. That gives considerable confidence in the efficiency of your organisation. I would be wary of buying shares. Bernie jackson
Made the booking online for a Father's Day meal, but turned up at Milan to see a note stuck to the door saying 'closed until further notice'. Small group of very cheesed off people outside with a ruined evening. At the very least, OpenTable should liaise with restaurants to mitigate events like this, otherwise, what's the point in using the service?
Booked for father's day with my daughter's arrived to see a piece of paper in the door saying it was closed until further notice I wasn't informed by text or email which completely ruined my father's day so won't be going back again
We booked the table here as a celebration for my daughters engagement with some friends and were really looking forward to it...... however when we arrived the restaurant was closed..... yes closed with just a note on the door saying closed till further notice.
To say I was very angry is an understatement..... very embarrassing when your friends have travelled to get here on our recommendation....... 8pm on a Saturday night and everywhere is fully booked. They had my mobile number and e mail address so the least they could have done is contact me to say it was closed.....this is unacceptable from a restaurant. We certainly would not recommend it to anyone .... our plans were spoilt for such a special occasion.
Had to put stars in the box above ....... obviously not necessary for this review.
Unfortunately, despite a confirmatory E-Mail on the morning of the booking, we found a handwritten notice on the door informing us that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the Restaurant was closed until further notice! No E-mail or telephone call to warn us so our special occasion became a bit of a scramble to find somewhere else to eat! A great pity, as we have enjoyed our experience at this Restaurant on many previous occasions.
Unfortunately our meal was cancelled at 1600 on the day our meal was booked, due to a gas leak on the premises. The restaurant rang us up and said we could be moved to their sister restaurant called The Manor. However there was an additional charge of £3.95 per person to our original £10.00 set meal at Milan. As if was so last minute we agreed to be moved to The Manor. I have been to The Manor previously and I really enjoyed the food there. We went to The Manor expecting great things. When we arrived nobody same over to us to greet us or check who we were? So I spoke to one of the waiters who appeared quite busy but he did listen to me when I told him we had arrived for a booking at 1900 and we were originally booked with Milan in West Kirby. We were told to take a seat and wait for someone to come over. It did not feel like our presence was very welcome at this point. We were given menus to browse and our drinks order was taken. Finally we sat down about 19.35. The food was very nice at The Manor, but the service from one of the male waiters was not very attentive. Both my friends were a bit upset by the way he spoke to them. I tried not to get too unsettled by it all and made light of it. It would be nice to attend Milan soon as I do prefer the service there and the food is usually splendid.
Disappointed with the quality of the Sunday roast. Service was unmanaged e.g. Tables being set up at 12 45 and wine glasses left on the table when no wine was ordered. Needs an experienced person to manage the service and good quality. Not value for money on this occasion.
We were up from London visiting parents, thought we'd try somewhere new. Loved the food and presentatation but found the wine a touch expensive for what it was, £25 for a bottle of Prosecco a bit OTT.
I really enjoyed my dining experience but I felt the drinks prices, particularly wine are excessive. I appreciate the restaurant do attractive dining offers through the week so perhaps the drinks menu is such to offset this. This didn't apply to our experience so hence my value for money rating. The food was lovely and service attentive.
We have visited Milan many time to celebrate special occasions and have had a 5 star experience. However, we all felt on this occasion that the quality of the food was not up to the previous high standards, the portion size had been reduced and the service was a bit rushed.
We like this restaurant, but recognise this is a new chef and new menu.
Service was slow but waitresses were pleasant. Fish dishes excellent. Pate not as good as previously. Disappointing that side veg now not included and some dishes not available at all. Wine was excellent!
Always impressed with the food and atmosphere here. Warm snug place with excellent service. Two courses for set price is great value. If I had a complaint I think twenty pound for a starting price bottle of wine is a bit steep!! All in all Milan is a great place to spend a few hours.
I must say that I have been to Milan before and enjoyed a good meal. I will not however return on a Sunday evening. It was obvious from the fact there was hardly anyone there that we had made a mistake. A limited menu was made more so by the waiter telling us that all the red meat options and the monkfish option were off. My inclination was to leave and I wish I had. Starters were good but my venison burger was dry, tasteless and over-priced. The roast dinners had by 2 of my companions were ok except for the absence of the promised carrots (presumably they were off as well). My other companion's risotto was perhaps the most enjoyed entrée. We waited for nearly twenty minutes but were never asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. In fact, with candles being blown out all around us and tables being set for the next day, it was obvious they wanted us out. This was confirmed when the manager left only to return a few minutes later to park his SUV right outside the window we were sitting at. Hint taken - we asked for the bill and with barely a word from any of the staff - we left. With all the options in West Kirby, I certainly won't be hurrying back.
Been to Milan many times and it is the best restaurant in West Kirby. Great food and atmosphere
Food was cold had to send it back to the chef, meals not as described, will not be going back, bad experience
Attractive setting with professional and attentive staff. Beautiful food , including the experimental starter. We look forward to returning.
Five stars isn't enough! There are so many places to eat in West Kirby and Milan is the best for everything. I can't recommend it highly enough - only I don't want it to get so busy that I can't get in! 😬
Overall it was good however I felt the cheese board was very disappointing, it came on a plate , not a board and the crackers were the cheapest on the market, i.e. Cream crackers and Ryvita and were not fresh. This course did not warrant an extra £ 3 , some garnish would have improved presentation e.g. Celery or some grapes.
The barman also needs to learn how to serve the new gin and tonics, should be in a gin glass and with cucumber at minimum.
Lovely, good value Sunday menu with not just traditional roasts for main meals.
Excellent staff and service. Very friendly.
Loved the air conditioned restaurant too, great when it's warm outside.
We have dined here in the past and will do again in the future.
Would highly recommend as there is something for everyone on the menu.
Very friendly staff from your welcome to your good bye,the food is excellent its prepared fresh and piping hot excellent service wine list is good but a little expensive the whole dining experience is very good would recommend it to anyone
Nice family meal with 93 year old mum. Staff very attentive and our request for smaller portions for mum no trouble at all. We were given a quiet table in the back of the restaurant which helped with conversation.
Have been to this restaurant quite a few times now , and it's always excellent . Saturday night was busy but still the service and food were excellent . Would recommend this lovely restaurant.
Food very nice but portions very small, rather pay bit more to feel full
Attentive, pleasant staff, good food, good value Friday Fizz deal, made our Girls' night out a real success. Thanks Milan
I have been to this restaurant many times.i was a little disappointed with the change of menu as I found the choice of main courses quite limiting.I chose the chicken dish which was lovely but I think the menu would benefit from perhaps a pork or lamb dish and another fish dish. Not everyone likes mackerel.Otherwise a very enjoyable meal.
Always consistently very good for food, value and service.
We enjoyed a very pleasant evening in Milan! Lovely food. Staff very attentive and friendly. Nice atmosphere.
We really enjoyed our meal here. Staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. Creative set menu - We would especially recommend the fish cakes and venison burger! The set menu offered a nice selection. Only one small niggle - it had several 'add on' costs for several of the selections. I just personally feel that is you offer a set menu it is not really living to the set price prices if you have to pay attention to what you are choosing as the cost then quickly escalates. For example, the price for 2 courses is £20 on a Friday night and yet if you choose the king prawns as your starter and the fillet steak as your main then you are looking at £30 for two courses which makes the price a little steep in my eyes for what you get. However all in all it was quality food and good service so if the price is right for you then this is a worthwhile visit.
Very enjoyable evening, great food, excellent value have visited several times never disappointed. This particular night it was noisier than usual which made it hard to hear each other at times but that is not usually an issue at Milan. Would recommend it and will definitely be back.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere!
We attended as a family with 3 children, 2 of which babies. The food was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. We had an amazing Sunday lunch and will be returning.
Milan will certainly remain on our 'good' list as a very regular 'Dine Out' Wirral people.

A very nice meal in a very nice atmosphere even though we ate quite early (6:00pm). Service was the correct balance of attentiveness and privacy. The menu, more restricted than normal due to the evening being Valentines Day, was varied enough and we were still spoiled for choice. This was our second meal at Milan and both have been very good.
Everything was 'spot on ' as usual - perfect food, service and ambiance. We love this restaurant.
Always consistently good food and service. Well cooked well presented sensibly priced.
Sunday lunch through to the evening particularly good best gravy on the Wirral!
Best restaurant in Wirral. Food and service is superb.
As always thoroughly enjoyed dinner. Good wine served with care. My family also enjoyed their dinner celebrating my daughters birthday.
Booked for an 89th birthday meal, staff very helpful and friendly, food good, not noisy as the 89 year old is hard of hearing!! Excellent value for money for very tasty food (based on the meal I chose).
Would go again.
Excellent service not in your face, friendly atmosphere. Food was well presented, hot and tasty
Friday night was the first time we had eaten at Milan. The food was the best I have tasted in a while - really delicious! So much so that we kept mentioning it all weekend to our family, I will definitely be booking again
