Mingo Argentine Steakhouse - Purley
Saturday: 5pm - 11pm
Sunday: 12pm - 8pm
The food was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked, the mojito both alcoholic and virgin were equally excellent. Great experience and will be going again
Went here for a special meal, being our anniversary, and booked on line. Booking asked if it was a special event and so I wrote it down on the form. I confirmed the booking by telephone and was asked again if it was a special event and so told the lady as well. Wasn’t expecting anything extra but if it is going to be asked I would think someone would just say Happy Anniversary otherwise why ask in the first place?
We Had the special 4 steaks sharing meal, which is what had made us book in the first place. Steaks were very nice, asked for rare but came more medium rare but were really very nice nevertheless. What was disappointing was that it was a meal for 2 (£28.50 each) but came with a single portion of salad and a single portion of chips to share, definitely not enough for 2 people (the portion of fries would have been quite small for one person). Given how Great the meat was, it was a shame to go home talking about the single portion of fries between 2 people - it just seemed a bit silly from the restaurant point of view, given the quality of the steaks, to then stint on the sides, which would make such a minimal difference from their side. It was a meal for 2 people so give 2 portions of fries!
As we were still hungry we got a desert to share and had churros and ice cream. Tasty but a little small, only 3 small churros and no ice cream came along, until we pointed out that it was supposed to come with some ice cream and then some ice cream appeared soon after.
Overall, great steaks, we would go again but probably better value to choose a single meal each rather than share a platter and have a single portion of fries between 2. This is actually a shame as the 4 steak meal is a good option for the meat. Maybe get extra side orders with the platter but this shouldn’t really have to be be necessary given the meal that we ordered.
You Would expect a steakhouse to turn out great steaks - this was not the case, both mine and my partner’s steak were cooked incorrectly having said that I pointed that out to the waitress and she was very happy to replace them but they came back incorrect again (I didn’t send them back) and 2 out of the 3 side dishes were cold, I sent them back but they came back lukewarm! Staff were nice food was a disaster!
Very expensive for what you actually get. Waiter immediately tried to upsell us to a more expensive wine after we asked for the house red (this was even before we’d ordered food so he couldn’t even use pairing as an excuse). My steak was medium rare as asked for, my partner ordered a medium steak and received a well done steak with literally no redness.
Poor service, wrong food brought out. Then expected to eat at different time to my partner
Yum! Very tasty food! Great steaks, incredible burgers and nice chips too! Generally all round very good and would go again. No the cheapest but not overpriced. Sound (acoustics - tiled walls) made it a bit loud (depending on the neighbouring company!) and I'd suggest some of those soft things on the feet of the chairs too! :) But otherwise, nice decor, handy location and I would definitely recommend it
Been to Mingo's several times including when it was previously Buenos Aires. Always excellent food - great starters and fabulous steaks at reasonable prices. Good wine list. Service can be a bit hit and miss but the previous two times I have been there, it was very good.
Ordered a burger, wasn’t asked how I liked it cooked, arrived over cooked and dry. Meal quite dry overall, sweet potatoe chips not very good again dry and not crispy also restaurant had ran out of the dessert i requested, changed order to Nutella cheese cake which arrived very plain and unappetising- without cream or ice cream so sent it back and ordered pancakes which were okay! As a birthday meal with the girls I was very disappointed and will not be returning.
Really good food excellent steaks - service was a little slow but it was Friday evening and it was busy - overal really good
Bit disappointed. Prawn starter looked weird and pretty tasteless.
Steak order wasn't right for 2 of the 4
Service was on the slow side but waitress was nice.
Was expensive for Purley
Probably wouldn't revisit in hurry!
Good authentic Argentine restaurant. I like how they have different sizes of meat including a 150g for when you're not too hungry. Provoleta could have been crunchier and sometimes it was pretty loud but given it was Saturday night that's a bit to be expected. All in all a solid place
The steak was beautiful, but I was surprised to be charged £2.50 for black pepper corn sauces.
I ate the Berry cheesecake for dessert and can honestly say it was probably the worst cheesecake I have ever eaten. It had a very strange texture.
Service was good, food was great. Nice place to eat.
Disappointing 4 steak platter. We used to come here as a special treat when it was Buenos Aires and have the same sampler board. Steak used to be perfectly seasoned cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth.
However this was not seasoned at all, just had a token pile of Himalayan salt on the side.
Some cuts tasted and looked more like veal.
On a positive better service but overall an overpriced, under seasoned meal.
We won’t be returning to our once favourite restaurant.
Great food if a bit pricey. The barman/waiter was very attentive.
It was way too expensive for what it was. Even Gaucho chain, which is more upmarket, is not as expensive as Mingo.
I had to pay extra for any sauce with meat! And that too of poor quality and sauce had no taste.
I will definitely not be recommending this Restraunt.
I rather visit Gaucho for that money for better food and ambience.
The food was good, but the service left a lot to be desired- we waited a very long time for the starters to come, then the main came out pretty much straight away after that so felt rushed. The wine arrived after our main course. We were shown a pudding menu but waited over 30 mins before anyone came to take our pudding order by which point the moment had passed so we got the bill instead - such a shame as the food was great but let down by service.
The service was pretty good, the starters we really enjoyed but for the price the steak was not up to scratch. When I pay £35 for a piece of fillet I expect that it cuts like butters and melts in the mouth, this did not although it was cooked medium as requested and was very tasty.
All in all not bad but not worth the £100 price tag.
Food okay but over priced. Service started off okay but we were never shown a dessert menu and when we asked for a coffee we were told we do not need to see a menu for that. Needless to say we did not leave a tip
Delicious food and great ambience.
I visited on a Thursday night for a catch-up dinner and this is the best value steak I have had anywhere in London.
Wine complemented the steak perfectly, starters were generous and tasty and the restaurant as a whole invites you to linger and settle in. Staff are very accomodating (my dinner companion couldn't decide on how he wanted his steak).
The place is so unassuming that it could be easily ovelooked unless you are in the know. This makes is good as you will always find a seat :).
Will definitely be returning.
Good food, drinks a bit expensive and cocktails not great so stick with the wine. Best place for a steak in Purley!
Food was outstanding and the stuff was very professional and pleasing👌👌👌
The Steaks were perfect as you would expect being a steakhouse but the wine was seriously over priced (cheapest Malbec £22 for a screw top bottle of £5 wine) and I felt that for me this let the whole experience down. Also they add a service charge without notifying you that they are going to do so before hand. Generally not impressed.
I have eaten here lots of times, service is always, at best average but the food was always good.
On this occasion, with it looks like a change of staff both food & service was very poor. I will not return.
Steak was cooked well and with the chips included the portion size with a side was large enough not to want a dessert.
Service was hit and miss, friendly but quite slow. Maybe I am just used to central London rushing you for the table turnover.
would recommend if looking for local steakhouse
Went for our wedding anniversary. Very quick and cheerful service. Food was fantastic. I would highly recommend a visit.
This is the 2nd time we have been to Mingo's.
The food is outstanding. Lovely choice of good wines.
Lovely staff. Would highly recommend.
We wanted a good steak and that is what we got. It was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night which was great for us but not for the restaurant. We will definitely be going again.
Superb steaks, the rest friendly and enjoyable. V good range of Malbecs
Good food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good value.
Excellent meal and will come again. Service was good and very pleasant
Excellent authentic Argentine food. Seemed slightly short staffed. But good food outweighed the sometimes slow service
We had a wonderful evening .Staff are very friendly and accommodating to our needs.Delicious food, steaks spot on. we have highly recccomended this restaurant to friends and family
Significantly better under the Buenos Aires name - used to be a favourite steak house but has really dropped the ball since becoming Mingo. Need to concentrate on the excellent steaks used to produce.
nice evening for a birthday family outing. Enjoyed the service, food and wine. Music added a bit of atmosphere. the tiled wall makes the acoustics bounce, but it was fairly quiet so not too much of a bother. Good steak!
I have paid 5 times more to get a steak as good as the one I had today. Good value for money, good food and really good service. I will be going back here !!
off the cuff booking - beautiful food and very good service
Food very good and service quick. However, special main meal price on Tuesday states two for one. Manager insisted the cheaper course was free. When the bill càme, the steak sauce and minimal side veg was not included as part of the main meal and was charged for. The blll was very confusing and we ended up being pursued from the restaurant for an extra £20! Drinks very expensive. Medium price white wine and soda came to £8.50. service charge was added automatically and was charged before any discount. Would therefore not go there again.
Mingo did not have my reservation on their system and we had to wait 45 minutes for a table. We had to wait at the bar and buy drinks with no apologies from the restaurant staff.
When they said our table was ready we went over to it but it was dirty and unmade. We then had to stand around for another 5 minutes or so while it was sorted out. A bit awkward for other diners!
It's a real shame this happened as it's a nice place and the food is good. The staff really did not know how to deal very well with the error. Overall it was a little expensive and a bit too much cheese on the chicken Milanese but everything else was good. My friends and I had a nice evening in the end.
Lovely food and lovely service
